Can a commitment-shy police officer overcome her issues to reunite with an old flame who happens to be her new boss?
Christine
I’d never been the girl who wore her heart on her sleeve, not since my perfect ex – who happened to be my brother’s best friend- got down on one knee. I’d panicked and pushed the eject button, which meant I never saw him again. Until he became my boss.
His brown eyes still engulf me the way they did ten years ago, but I liked being in charge of my heart – and the remote control.
I’ll need to overcome my fears if I want a second chance at being happy.
Fraser
On my first day of a new job, I didn’t expect to be faced with the ghost of girlfriend's past. Christine hasn’t changed since that night she walked away from me – still tiny as a doll and stubborn as a donkey.
When the chance of helping her organise a Christmas party for underprivileged kids comes up, I don’t need to think twice. I’m more than willing to dress up as Santa if it makes her smile.
I let her get away once, and I’m not about to let my psycho ex or Christine’s absent boyfriend stop me from getting what I’ve spent the last decade pining for.
Love love love! The second in the Sweet In Scotland series is a festive novella with a very satisfying ending. I really liked the nod to the first book, giving you a little update on previous characters. This will definitely be on my Christmas reread list.
Right to Remain Silent is an excellent read. The title got me curious, which is good — I had a few plot theories from reading that title — theories that all crumbled in the face of Nicki Bell's take on second chance love.
I can guarantee that I will re-read this book many times over as the Christmas spirit settles in. And I think Right to Remain Silent will be the right choice for anyone looking for a ‘Happily Ever After so sweet it will give you cavities’.
Special thanks to Nicki Bell for an ARC in exchange for a candid review.
This was a cute second chance romance is set in a small town on the Scottish seaside and just in time for the Christmas season. If you are looking for a quick read and a second chance I highly recommend. Christine has skewed relationship views that keeps her from taking the leap to become fully committed. She was given the opportunity years ago, but she turned down the one guy she truly cared about because he wanted to spend his life with her. Fraser moved away from his hometown many years ago after being rejected by his one true love. He couldn’t understand why she didn’t want to take that leap with him, but he never completely got over her. Fast forward 10 years later and fate as usual does its thing and they are forced back together when Fraser takes over for the Chief of Police while she goes on maternity leave. Now they are forced to face the past. Bell wrote a fantastic novella about life, love, and growth. When it’s meant to be nothing can stand in the way. A special thanks to Nicki Bell for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I found this story, set just before Christmas in a Scottish seaside town, cute and sweet.
I particularly liked the scene where Christine, the female lead, is hanging out with Michael, the boyfriend she's settled for to avoid an emotional commitment. What a way to make the guy undesirable and unsympathetic if she leaves him for someone better!
This quick but complete story is perfectly suited if you don't want to commit to a long read or need something light and short for a commute.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the story; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.
An absolutely fantastic read that played out like a movie!!
An absolutely fantastic read that played out like a movie. Once I started reading I could not stop I was so caught up in this story! One of my favorite holiday romances. It's funny and romantic, Christine and Fraser are downright swoony together. If you love your holiday romance sweet (and quite frankly, who wouldn't??), this one is for you. Happy reading everyone
In the second novella of the Sweet in Scotland series we follow Christine. She is a police officer in a tiny seaside town and although in a relationship with Michael, has never forgotten the one that got away. Her ex- Fraser shows up as a sub for her boss who is out on maternity leave. She is forced to deal with the past and revisit her ideas about the future. Although novella length, this was an engrossing story with well-developed characters.
Short story about commitment-phobe Christine and Fraser. This is their second shot at getting it right, and planning a Christmas party together forces them to spend time around each other. If you’re going to fall in love with someone it might as well be Santa right? This was quick, entertaining and worth the read. A short, sweet Santa snippet. Oh, and it’s Scottish. Swoon!!
I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review. I was delighted with the story. The characters charmed me, the story compelled me to read on, and I'll be reading more by this author. I don't want to give too much away (and others have given a good synopsis of the story itself). The important thing to know is if you enjoy a good romance-give this one a go.
Super sweet, Christmas, second chance romance. It's so hard to overcome your fears from childhood influences. It's such a good story of letting it go and moving on. Kudos to Fraser for pushing on to get through to her.
This novella was so fun! Short and sweet and I LOVE a second chance romance. This one was so cute and I really enjoyed it. Although it’s a short read I felt we got to know the characters and I liked how the story progressed.
Absolutely adorable! I was given a copy of this novella for an honest review and I am so eager to do so! This story was adorable! Definitely a second-chance and dating-the-boss (and brothers-best-friend) with the backdrop of the police station and Christmas! This was a very sweet and easy read with minimal drama and lots of soft moments. A great holiday treat.
I really enjoyed this book! It was short and very sweet Despite being a wee novella, I felt like I got to know the characters and why they didn’t work first time around. I was rooting for them from the start The chapter at the Christmas fair made me cry! It was just what I wanted from a romance in December My preorder for this author’s next novella is in and I’m giddy!
