I heard about this book while listening to The Art of Manliness podcast. At first, I was a bit skeptical about the applicability to my own life and struggles. I decided to give the book a chance and quickly realized how wrong I was. Bethke and Tyson have identified a number of challenges faced by (arguably) the majority of men. Specifically, those challenges include despair, loneliness, shame, lust, ambition, futility, and apathy.

I believe the observations and advice provided by the authors is both helpful and insightful. I will say that the topics they cover are fairly intimidating and require additional reading, thinking, and work on the part of the reader. In other words, 'Fighting Shadows' is an amazing place to begin thinking about the topic, to gain insight, and develop next steps.

I would recommend this book to any man that finds he is struggling with any of the challenges listed above. If, after looking over the list, you believe that any of these aren't 'actually' challenges, I would recommend this book to you as well.

Found it a very boring list of self-centred challenges, that completely ignored the real challenges of the world.
