This novella was really cute. Ellen Fisher seems to be more adept at writing in the short form than other authors I've read recently. Instead of trying to do too much in too little space and ending up with a story that felt squashed, she crafted a simple, funny plot that fit comfortably in less than 100 pages. It was an entertaining way to spend an hour, and I liked the paranormal twist at the end.

Dare Greene has his own landscaping business and he decides that he needs to do a web site to bring in more business. He calls Kathy Parish, who he has had a crush on since high school.

In this erotic read as soon as Dare see's the spots on Kathy's bra it's over with. It's like he's a new person and he just pounces on her. The sex just gets hotter and hotter. Dare doesn't understand why anything with spots is turning him on.

Before you know it Dare has redone the bedroom and anything else he can in spots. Something has to be done before it gets out of hand. Who would complain though if your man went all hot and tore your clothes off if he just imagined you wearing spots or laying on spots?

Something happens when they keep having sex. Just rubbing their bodies together have consequences. At the moment when it comes to a head his parents catches them. That's when the secret is out of the bag. If you want to read a hot steamy book and find out what I'm talking about then I dare you to read Seeing Spots .

Another gem from Ellen Fisher. Dare and Kathy have been interested in each other since high school, but neither of them realised. Dare was your typical sports jock, always surrounded by the prettiest girls, while Kathy was more studious.

She was still a geek, and he was still the town hottie, with women throwing themselves at him everywhere he went. And no wonder – with those long-lashed eyes, movie-star face, and that solid muscled body, he looked like a six foot three package of sex. Whereas she herself was barely passable.

They had nothing in common. That is, until Dare asks Kathy to design a website for his business.

Katherine Parrish glanced up at her client, offering him an encouraging smile, and caught him staring at her oddly. No – he was staring at her shirt. Which was odd, because it wasn’t low-cut or sexy. It was just an old t-shirt with leopard spots on it.

And for some reason, Dare can’t take his eyes off it…

Spots.
He was seeing spots. And he liked them.

He’s always been in awe of Kathy.

She was a freaking genius. He was the dyslexic one.
“Looks great,” he muttered, feeling his cheeks grow hot. This was why he’d never dared to make a move on her. He’d come up with the idea of having her design his website as an excuse to talk to her – but talking to her didn’t do any good if every word out of his mouth just proved how dumb he was. Someone like her was not going to be impressed by a moron.

Kathy puzzles over his reaction to her t-shirt and next time Dare comes to discuss his website, she’s wearing a slightly visible leopard-print bra – to see if that has any effect.

The image of her in leopard print bra and panties, and absolutely nothing else, dug its way into the depths of his brain and made itself right at home. Mentally he added three-inch leopard print heels, because, well, he was a guy, and high heels were hot. Leopard print was hot. Katherine was hot.

Yes – he notices!

He tried really, really hard to stare at the computer screen, but his eyes were pretty much spinning around in their sockets of their own accord now, and they rolled downward and gave him another fabulous view of spots.

Kathy is thrilled – he’s finally noticed her. She invites him to take a closer look…

He suddenly realised that he was undoing her jeans, too. He hadn’t meant to, really. But right now he was the slave of some dark, primitive part of his brain. His brain gave orders, and he obeyed.

It’s the start of a wonderful affair, only Dare’s liking of leopard spots begins to border on obsession.

“You’re not supposed to giggle,” he informed her. “You’re supposed to be turned on.”
“Oh, my God.” She giggled harder. “You’re wearing leopard spot boxers.”
“Yes, I am. And they’re not an easy thing to find in Swift Creek, let me tell you. Could you possibly quit laughing?”

I love the way Ellen Fisher writes about people falling in love. Her dialogue is crisp and funny, and her pacing is perfect. There’s usually a bit of a twist too, and Seeing Spots has one. Kathy breaks out in spots. And so does Dare.

“Kathy,” he said, very gently. “I don’t know exactly what’s going on here, but this isn’t from sleeping on sheets, okay? People don’t grow spots just because they have spots in their environment.”
“Thank God you don’t like floral prints!” She raged, trying futilely to get away. “Otherwise you’d have big daisies stamped all over your ass right now!”

It’s a great, quick read and a definite 5 out of 5.

This was a fun short read that had me laughing and smiling at times.

Dare Greene and Katherine Parrish were polar opposites back in high school and now the same is true of them as working adults. The trouble is that the heart does not worry about scholastic scores or sports interests. Dare runs a lawn care business and finally decides to try his luck with Kathy by having her design his company web page. He, the guy who as no trouble with women, finds himself awkward and almost silent when near her in person because he thinks that she is too smart and classy for him. Kathy sees this gorgeous man who has hired her and thinks that she would never stand a chance attracting him with her glasses and her geekiness.
Except-
Kathy is wearing a leopard-spotted t-shirt that Dare cannot take his eyes off of. She figures its worth a chance so she purchases leopard spotted lingerie for their next meeting and accidentally gives him a view down her blouse. Oh yes, she got his attention alright. No words necessary now! Dare likes the spots and they both give in to their attraction.
Soon its not just about spots and sex- Dare wants more, but can a guy like him keep Kathy interested?

I will avoid the spoilers for the answer to that and the fun plot twist near the end.

The story is a fast and simple short story that should not be taken too seriously. Just sit back and have some fun reading it.

I really liked Dare. The start of this was very cute, sweet and funny. Then they started having sex and that's pretty much all they did.

Still would have been 4 star cute free read but...

The last chapter/epilogue was a huge WTF?!?!

Yeah if you read don't read last chapter or epi unless you like random bullshit

My opinion

Good quick read. I always enjoy the shy, geeky girl ending up with the high school heart throb that she's secretly had a crush on. That and dispelling prejudices and stereotypes of "I'm not smart enough for her to like me" and "I'm not pretty enough for him to like me."

Not bad, overall. Kind of campy - the idea of simply looking at a leopard print anything kicks a shifter over the edge into shifter-ness? (or is that shifter-dom? )

Love the idea of childhood/teen crush coming back after years apart theme, though.

And, of course, if you're after a quick rom-com with more than a smattering of sex, then this is pretty good.

It was a cute story. Usually it is the woman that has a complex about herself, and she had it a little bit, but mostly it was the guy this time who had the complex. She was smart, and he thought he wasn't. He was hot, and she thought she wasn't. It took him longer to realize he was wrong than she did.

A fun, well-developed novella. Both characters are likeable, and the story is sweet and at times funny. I enjoyed the paranormal twist; it tied the whole story together.

This was kind of an odd one, especially the ending.
But apart from that, this was a very easy reading book with some laugh out moments.
And will have to chase down more of this authors work.
