A fun read, with great photos of each musical - a lovely, large coffee table book. Sennett selects a handful of shows from each major Broadway "era" (as defined by him) and explores their inspiration, creation, content, and legacy. He's not afraid to share his opinions on the quality of books and scores, but shares space with quotations taken from major critics to give a balanced review of each musical. Better to browse than read straight through, and some readers may wish for more depth.
