Desperate for money after a heist goes south, Delilah breaks into a rich man's home. But instead of cash and jewels, she discovers a severed head and a serial killer. When the killer threatens her chronically-ill daughter and her childhood sweetheart, Delilah must turn the hunter into the hunted in a dangerous game only one of them will survive.
A fast-paced thriller with a strong and believable female lead. Although some of the supporting characters are a little less convincing, in particular the Florida police officer, this book is well worth the read.
Wow! What a thriller this one is! Oh. My. Gosh. I am a big time thriller lover and this one really filled the bill!
Delilah is a thief, a thief whose crime gets her in big trouble and I don't mean jail! When she breaks into the house of Ted, a serial killer, that begins a horrific hunt! She first sees No one has ever gotten away from him before, so knowing that sets the pace for the reader to read faster and the heart to beat even faster!
I have to say that Ted is about the most despicable serial killer I've ever read about but he was totally believable! This book, thank God, is fiction, but it seems very real while reading it. I loved reading about Delilah though to see how/if she would get away from Ted!
Wow! This is possibly the best thriller I've read this year. The pace and suspense was unrelenting. Ted, the serial killer was evil personified, as sick a human being as I've found in fiction. Delilah's strength of character was a shining light throughout. No matter what the world threw at her, you knew she would find a way to keep going. There were so many high points in this story they are too many to comment on. I don't have the breath. Please tell me another Delilah story is out there?
Every now and then, BookBub offers me a freebie that turns out to actually be pretty good. Hunting Delilah is one such example, and will probably keep me looking through their offerings in the future.
This thriller has excellent pacing and a fairly engaging plot. In Delilah, the author has created a spunky and memorable female protagonist. She’s a professional getaway driver and thief, with the proverbial heart of gold. The story’s larger-than-life bad guy is a serial killer whom Delilah accidentally discovers while robbing a house. She manages to barely escape with her life and, now wounded, becomes the object of his fixation. None of his previous victims had ever escaped and he is intent on hunting down, recapturing, and slowly killing Delilah.
The rest of the story involves how this deadly game of cat and mouse plays out. Although there are other characters involved, none are as clearly and as well drawn as Delilah and Ted, the serial killer. The story has problems, primarily the way in which the author writes Ted’s character. He’s really over the top in terms of his evil, unabashed displays of public violence and his sexual release afterwards. For a psychologically decompensating serial killer, Ted is a little too cool for school. In other parts of the book, the writing tends to be a little unsophisticated, but for the most part, this is an enjoyable and quick read. Keep your expectations in check, and you might just find it a nice little diversion.
This book grabbed me in the first chapter and held on until the end. Thriller, suspense and a good story plot made it hard to put down. Believable characters round out this must read book.
Are you going to write more books in this character? Because If you do, I'm saving my money to buy every single one. I enjoyed this. Better than movie thrillers. I held my breath in the cabin scene! Great read
A career thief, con artist vs a serial killer. Sound interesting?? It was a crazy read..
Delilah has never followed the rules. She has always lived her life on the edge and even walked away from her daughter leaving her with her father because she knew she wasn't mother material. But just because she didn't have the maternal gene she still sent all the money she made from her heists to her ex to cover the expensive treatments her daughter needed. Things were going well until she broke into a house and opened the freezer and instead of finding hidden cash or diamonds in the ice tray she found a severed head. What's even worse the "killer" was home.
After managing to escape but badly wounded Delilah is in a race to stay one step ahead of the killer as he leaves a trail of bodies trying to catch her. She learns that she does have maternal instincts when the killer decides to up their game and go after her daughter and her ex and his wife.
The last half of the book was a nail biter and the final showdown between Delilah and the killer was very satisfying.
I really liked this book. Delilah is a con artist and a thief who is trying to do this job that will pay handsomely. But things get messed up, so she decides to hit up a few McMansions in the area so her trip isn't a complete bust. She picks the WRONG house to rob though. A serial killer has just killed his girlfriend and Delilah disrupts him.
A fight ensues and he thinks that he's fatally attacked Delilah but he doesn't bet on her will to live. So she escapes certain death but is seriously injured. She heads back to her hotel and gets someone to help fix her up but she doesn't bet on the serial killers fascination with her and she's the only person who has ever escaped from him.
He stalks her, she flees, it's a high stakes game of cat and mouse and only one of them are left standing. It's a high paced story with interesting characters and it's a lot of fun to read.
Good story. I liked that, although Delilah's a thief and con artist, you still feel sympathy for her and absolutely want her to win. She comes across as an 'honest' person - at least in her own way - and as her back story gradually reveals itself, you see how she came to be the person she is.
There were some pretty gory moments that made my toes curl and the true villain is one of the scariest characters I've read in a LONG time. Sadly it's all too believable that there really are people like him around in the world.
My only real disappointment was that the final confrontation that'd been building for, like, the whole book, was over and done with so quickly. It felt like a bit of an anti climax to me. I have no problem with the actual outcome of the encounter, just that we got there too soon!
This is Bonnie without the Clyde. Not a deep read that will leave you thinking and not an entirely satisfying ending but the plot is lively and keeps moving. If there is any point to be made, it is that however sharp a criminal living by her wits may be, she is not inviolate. There can always be someone who is meaner, faster, and more ruthless. The novel leaves you wondering whether those who survive will find that their attitudes to the anti-heroine have changed. One hopes that they realise their debt to her. Will that change their behaviour? Unlikely. As for whether her future will be like her past? Probably. Will the policeman be dogged enough to carry on pursuing her and if he finds her, will he ultimately reform her? I don't think the book is going there, but one can always hope for a sequel...
Well, this was a surprise! Very soon after starting the book, I learned that the main character, Delilah, is a criminal. Usually, she's a getaway driver, a con artist, a burglar, but she has to expand her skill set this time. Excellent plot, she's the hunted and not by the law, at least at first. Turns out the homeowner of one of her target houses is home, but she learns this only after finding out he's a more murderous type of criminal. I thought Delilah was pretty well represented as someone who's used to being on the wrong side of the law and can't conceive of going straight. And Ted,the killer/homeowner, unspools his carefully wrought persona as a corporate lawyer with a killer lawn (pun intended) when she continues to elude him. I found myself rooting for Delilah to stay out of the hands of the law while trying to protect the ones she loves from nutcase Teddy. What fun!
"Hunting Delilah" easily meets the criteria for a thriller and as the protagonist, Delilah is a character study on steroids. She's a con artist extraordinaire and an occasional get-away driver with a well hidden compassionate side. During a B&E, Delilah discovers a severed head in a freezer and, in the process, becomes the victim-turned-prey of a serial killer. The chase takes on new dimensions when the killer goes after Delilah, her former lover Jake, and their daughter Esther. It's a saga of self-discovery for Delilah as she uncovers a reserve of heretofore unknown inner strength. It's a chilling tale but the pacing lagged in places. Note: I had to put it aside several times for more pressing matters, i.e. evacuating for Hurricane Irma.
I hate to give this 3 stars because it was a bit better than that. It wasn't ho hum, but it was not edge of my seat thriller either. The main character is a little unrealistic. Who takes a stabbing to the stomach and not only survives, but continues to athletically go on for days afterwards. I did get sick of reading about the pain in her stomach. But I guess that had to be reinforced for us to remember that she had actually been stabbed considering how she was able to do so much. The villain was without any compunction or feelings at all except for his own needs....he had a fitting end. I would consider reading another story, if it fell into my hands, but I won't likely be seeking out more Delilah.
I enjoyed this more than I expected. I mean the lead character – a con artist, getaway driver, thief - I hadn’t thought she would turn out how she did. What a predicament she found herself in! After all she was only robbing a house, how could it lead to all that followed. My heart was in my mouth as we follow Delilah as she is first hunted and then becomes the hunter. Is there anyone to help? Can Sam? What about Jake? Will she be able to succeed alone? There are many twists and turns. I know it’s a bit of a cliché but I really didn’t want to put it down. Definitely a good read.
A decent book about a career thief being chased by a serial killer. It's a good beginning and build up but a disappointing finish. Ted is a little too off the rails at the end to be successful in skirting the law as he did. The detective with no gun, a depleted cellphone and running out of gas while following Ted was incredibly stupid, but then again Delilah stole his car twice on him. The bit about the bear traps concerned me too; why wasn't Ted smart enough to brush the ground in front of him with a stick considering all else that he did and the fact that he knew there might be more traps, having found one. This is actually a fairly good read but just not a great ending.
This story was unique and gripping. A getaway driver nails on a potential job, she turns her luck to burglary and tubing are going well until she runs Ted. He comes home just as she is checking the freezer for hidden cash but finds a severed head instead. Yes isn't a typical homeowner - he is a serial killer with a predilection for using his victims to fertilize his passion- his fabulous garden. Delilah escapes. With Red not far behind and the deaths keep adding up. Super clever plot, well written with strong characters. Delilah is determined to stop Ted. Yes is obsessed with chasing down and killing Delilah. Wow.
It took a lot to change Delilah view of the world she lived in. A career criminal was in the run after a vicious serial killer has her on his sight. Fear for her life was not that important anymore but what matter now was saving the life if the man she once loved and that of her sick child. She overcame her physical and emotional pain and fears to defeat the evil killer and save the lives of those she loved. She found out that motherly love she ignored before b. She accepted the need to let them go, both her daughter, Jake and his wife. They were a family now. She will take care of business and won't run from her choices and their consequences.
Hunting Delilah was a great little thriller but with an anti-climatic ending. However, I was pleasantly surprised when Sam Arbichaut arrived on the scene about halfway through the novel. He was still a detective on the police force which meant this novel was written before the author decided to give him his own series.
Delilah was a fighter and con artist, and refused to live by the rules. She was also a mother who gave up her child and, surprisingly, she was a sympathetic character. She did make stupid choices but I grew to like her and was concerned for her survival.
If you've seen the TV show 'Good Behavior' and liked it, you'll really enjoy this book. The main character has a heart, even though you rarely get a glimpse of it or will have little sympathy for her if you've ever been on the receiving end of a similar theft or con. The story begins almost casually and then slaps you upside the head to get your attention and doesn't back off till the end. Character development is better than the editing but the action and suspense never pause. A great first novel for a series that I would definitely buy into.
I read all the reviews. Well not all of them. But I read several of them. They all said this book was a page turner. They were not lying. This is a great book with a compelling story and good character development. Delilah is a thief and someone who skirts the edges of law and society. But she gets her self tangled in a mess that seems almost overwhelming. It is overwhelming. But she has to put things right and she works her way to try to do her best. I can’t wait to read the next one.
Good light reading for the afternoon. Somewhat unbelievable characters. Poorly proofread, as in two instances talking about car brakes and parking brakes, the word used was "breaks". The clincher for my lower rating, however, is where the protagonist "flicks the safety off" her Glock. Almost every writer uses a Glock in some manner in their books, but apparently very few know anything about Glock pistols. They DO NOT HAVE external mechanical safeties as are found on most other pistols. Sorry, but that sort of thing just turns me off.
I thoroughly enjoyed the story and the style of the writer. The main character (delilah) chooses to live outside the law and should be condemned for that but you find yourself linking her despite that.
If there is a weakness it is that the detective is a little too weak-minded and serial killer comes across as super human, reading people too easily and discovering secrets about them far too easily.
Some of the scenes are graphic but the book not a book full of murders. As the title states, it is about the hunt.
I don't read books like this very often & didn't know much about it when I started. The main character is a career criminal who walks into a house to burgle it but finds more than she had nightmares about! A chase ensued between her, a serial monster & a run down cop.
Had to continue reading until the last page - made myself very late getting up!! Now to get second book. I hope it's as good ......
The suspense was killing me. Delilah became a favorite instantly, but I disliked the way she was still do attached to her ex. (I kinda hoped Ted would've killed him).
I liked Ted, crazy as it seems. His reason for killing women however had me a bit confused. My only issue with the book was the end...All this built up to end so easily was a bit disappointing but nonetheless i enjoyed it.
A rough life for a young woman turns even tougher and totally terrifying when she comes up against a cold hearted serial killer who fixated his whole existence on trying to kill her and everyone dear to her. This is a brilliantly written book that gave me goosebumps, tears, lip biting and breath holding moments galore! I recommend it to anyone who loves a good suspense novel.
Oh my..this Delilah must have a four leaf clover shoved up her ass, because a luckier person I've never met! Yeah she burglarized the wrong house and inadvertently put herself and subsequently her family into the path of a deranged serial killer, still she evaded said serial killer and the authorities until vengeance was served...all with a ferocious stab wound in her belly! Doesn't get any more action packed than that!
Delilah is a totally likeable character in this first book of an apparent series. She isn't the strongest, smartest character, but if this is a continuing series, I expect to see her mature and become more of a person to think ahead. Delilah is written as tough, motivated, and her heart is in the right spot. The ending was unexpected, and it appears this may pick up in a Number 2 book. Quick, fast-paced read!
