The Alliance Academy #1

The Alliance's Academy

Rate this book
Coming off the most difficult term of her life, all Zara Burman wanted was to finish her education at her very ordinary school, and move out of her parents’ less than ordinary house. Her father, a witch and politician, has other plans for her.

The controversial opening of the Alliance Academy hopes to bring about one thing—a true, lasting peace amongst the magical community—and Zara is expected to attend, to support the cause, and further her father’s political career. Tired of his agenda, but with little choice in the matter, Zara strikes a deal; get through the year at the academy, finish her education there, and her father would fund her independence for a year.

But surviving the school term like she’d hope, making her father happy enough to let her off the hook, takes on a whole new meaning when a student is murdered on campus. Receiving no answers, Zara is expected to turn the other cheek and go on like nothing has happened—and she can do anything but that.

With the clock ticking before someone else gets killed, and the academy’s intentions are brought to ruin, Zara brings together an unlikely group of classmates, made up of werewolves, witches, and a vampire, to find the killer living amongst them. A killer, she reckons, is out to destroy the peace, and throw them back into war.

The perfect series for readers who crave lovable characters, a touch of magic, intriguing mysteries, tender romances, and a heartwarming found family.

Dark academia, witches, vampires, and werewolves, murder mystery--what more do you need? lol!

Okay so, all of this absolutely hits on things I love so I had a lot of fun with this book. The revelation at the end was one I completely did not expect and I have to say it was so cool and interesting. The characters also are just really easy to fall in love with and are so compelling. I have my favorite (Nico) but they all have their own unique styles and personalities that just mesh so well.

Highly recommended! <3

Rounded up from 4.5 stars.

I had an unexpectedly wonderful time with this book! Unexpected only because the premise includes multiple tropes/ideas that aren't automatically of interest to me.

But I absolutely loved the character-centric, slower-paced storytelling of The Alliance's Academy. Once the found family started making their way together, I was all in. What an endearing group of characters! The story really surprised me with how sweet and tender it was.

Along with the interesting political/social angle, I also really appreciated how much diversity the author included, without it ever feeling forced or thoughtless. It was, instead, genuinely lovely to see how the characters' respective neurodivergences, physical disabilities, or traumas impacted their space in the world and their dynamics with other people.

The plot clearly continues forward into the next two volumes, with little resolution to be had in this first installment, but even that I'm alright with. I was more than happy to focus primarily on these damaged characters and their growing relationships to one another.

Can't wait to read the next one!

DNF. I wanted to like this; I love the idea of a kitchen sink of paranormals in a “Babylon 5” small cauldron of politics and potential fights. There are several reasons I failed to finish the book:
- The main character was dispassionate, almost too cold for me. She had a chip on her shoulder but still acted as spy for her father.
- The vampire and werewolf she meets first are both too similar in character. Both seem like followers, not leaders, the kind of kids you just want to hold and say you will make it all better. 2-dimensional. I may have needed more time to get to know them but I read almost 50% of the book.
- The plot seemed clichéd: murders in an academy. Well, I don’t know why this idea is so popular. My high school only had drugs and missed out on the excitement (LOL).

It was okay. I can’t say anything fancy about it. Just that it was okay.

It could have been better. The character were a little 2 dimensional. But not Isak. He was deeper (probably because we got his POV)

The plot was good. A little boring sometimes but it was good.

I thought it was more about politicians and manipulation. But no. It was just academy setting.

The Fmc with her backstory. I don’t think it fitted her. If anyone would do it to me I would just disappear and use my power. But that’s just my opinion.

I am still deciding if I will read the next book.

Vampires, werewolves, and witches. Oh my!

What can all three who have never gotten along do, when thrown together in a boarding school? This book has twists that makes you question the sanity of the headmistress. Why send your kids to this school? Why do the kids stay? Good read loved it.

Alliance Academy book 1

This was the best book I've read in a while. It's about different people that has to learn to get along although it's fantasy it's like our everyday life as a person. People are always ready to judge before they get to know each other an there is the secret.

Day 1 vacation read. I understand this is book 1, but would have preferred it to wrap up the story instead of carrying on into the next book. The premise (can different magical beings co-exist when forces are trying to pit them against one another) is applicable to the human realm as well. If you could choose, would you be a witch, a vampire, or a werewolf?

It was a good read, but not quite the page turner I’m used to. It was interesting enough for me to move on to book 2.
I’m waiting for appropriate justice for all!!

DNF. Even though I persevered with this, hoping it would pick up pace and drama, I gave up at after I reached 50%.
