The seventh outing for the Busy series features horses and ponies engaging in an array of toddler-appropriate activities. Photographer Casi Lark captures the beauty of equines in action in this stunning addition to the popular series.
Busy Horsies (2007) is one of photographer John Schindel's busy animal series of board books. It is the seventh book in a nine book series.
Each full color photograph of a mare and her foal doing something includes a short description like "horsies strolling" (page 8). The book is a collaboration with Casi Lark who owns Spanish Mustangs.
I read this book with Harriet. We enjoyed the gorgeous photography of the horses.
Illustrated with photographs, horses do different things.
Busy Horsies was a hit with baby although not as big of a hit as Busy Chickens. Baby particularly liked the "Horsey sleeping" page with the photo of the foal lying down in the grass.
Vivid photos, and SUPER short for a quick toddler read. It's also really repetitive, which has made it easy for my two-year-old to memorize. She and likes to "read" it back to me.
Not as riveting as Busy Chickens. Also, my toddler is finding it confusing when I use differnt words for the same animal so I have to keep saying "horse" instead of horsie. Although he just calls them all "neigh neigh" no matter what I say.
I love all of the "Busy" animals books that I have seen thus far, except this one. I couldn't stand the use of "Horsies." This may seem absurd, but it just seemed too babyish.
