Widowed, a single mom, Christmas and she's just lost her job. Can it get worse? Apparently it can when Santa asks if he can help her and Jenna Darlington knows it's a cruel joke. Because Santa--Chance McKenna--is a member of the Rock Gods, a group of rock climbers who live off of adrenaline and stupidity. Been there, done that. Buried her husband because of it. She has no respect for a man who doesn't respect life--even if he is offering her a job.
Chance knows exactly how Jenna feels about him and the rest of the Rock Gods. So why does he feel the way he does around her? They're polar opposites when it comes to life views. But isn't the saying that opposites attract?

Didn’t finish after page 49, and I skimmed to even get to that. I just didn’t like Jenna very much. I just don’t like the uptight, panties in a twist female. I know her husband just died so she can be stressed and sad, but she comes across as holier than thou and a downer. It probably also doesn’t help that I just read a book right before this one where the girl was fun and caring and helpful and charismatic all while dealing with a big failure, so it’s hard not to compare the two even more. Chance seemed okay but a bit bland. The story was written pretty straight forward. I just wasn’t into the characters so I didn’t care to continue. Also something kind of dumb but that I was having a hard time with was the son being named mark jeffrey and everyone calling him that every time, no nickname or anything. It was weird to me haha. It made him sound like a polygamist or something. It was kinda distracting lol. I guess they wanted to keep the Jeffrey part because of the dad, but maybe if they just went with MJ you could still be paying tribute with the J. Anyway the book may be okay for some. It wasn’t bad, I just like a good female character.
I loved loved this book. The chemistry, the longing between Jenna and Chance was amazing. I loved both the characters and their growth. I just felt they ended it very haphazardly. I mean both Chance and Jenna were okay with their relationship, they made the choice, the kids were okay, one accident and something about which Chance didn't know at all made him back off. It was not his fault. Not in the least. I would have understood had they shown that the grandparents opposed or said harsh words to Chance and made him back off. But besides that story was amazing. I did love the ending with Chance going to meet his father. It was beautiful as a whole.

Sweet story. The heroine is a widow whose husband died while being reckless on a rock climb. The hero is one of the dead husband's climbing buddies who owns a feed/ hardware/ sporting goods store. When the heroine comes in to cancel her layaway & get a refund because she needs the cash, the hero offers her a job. She's resistant because she blames the buddies for the hubby's death and resents them for being so careless and reckless, but she needs the money. And the story begins. It's got some nice angst without going overboard. I enjoyed reading it.
A young widow, Jeanna is having a hard time this Christmas. She looses her job right before the holiday. While trying to cancel her Christmas lay away she receives a job offer from a friend of her husbands, who she doesn't approve of. Chance had a rough start in life and has a hard time putting it in the past so he can settle down. Great holiday story that keeps on the edge of your seat. Well they or not be a couple? It always amazes me how these authors can pack a story, full of so much life in so few words.
I liked it there was a great progression. The kids were great. I would have liked more back story on Jenna’s parents as traveling missionaries… maybe that’s in another one on the series. Yes it’s a series I’m reading Book 5 first so apparently they all stand alone. Some language, very mild, definitely closed door romance. Am glad she and Chance figured out a way to make it work
Life is full of good and bad things. How we learn to deal can greatly impact our daily lives. This story makes some of life’s toughest things a little more understandable. Glad I read this book.
This was a very touching story about a young mom left to raise her twins on her own following the death of her husband from a fall while rock climbing. She found love but they both had to overcome issues from their past. Love showed them the way to happiness.
I have read several of Kay Lyon's books now and this one was just as good as the others. I really enjoy her stories and can recommend them to anyone looking for a good book to read.
I liked this book because it expressed the issues with the daredevil antics of people in pursuit of the danger adrenaline rush. It was an enjoyable book.
This is a debate about the value of extreme sports and teaching children to be adrenaline junkies versus playing it safe. I read about a quarter of it and shut it forever. Lyons is trying too hard to write a "meaningful" book and instead wrote a boring story where the love relationship took third place behind the debate and the obnoxious child. Every one of the 4 main characters (mother, her twins, and the love interest) need therapy. Badly.

her husband married her when she got preg at 17 he was climbing with no ropes, fell and died she is raising her 11 yr old twin boy and girl alone she lost her job at the school and was trying to get her money back from the things she put on xmas layaway at a store a friend of her husband (and climber) owned. he gave her a job instead. she had the twins at home a few hrs with the neighbor looking in on them, but the neighbor had to leave just for a few minutes. the twins were in the street, someone called the police when they almost got hit by a car. the police was the man at the stores brother, he wanted to call child protective services but his brother talked him out of it. she had the twins stay at the store for a few days after school. then it was thanksgiving break and her husbands parents took them to stay with them she keeps fighting with her boss, they dont agree how she should raise the kids. they want to go to the rodeo and compete with small animals but she wont let them. he thinks they should go

Good book. Jenna lost her husband when he fell during a climbing expedition. As a result, she is left alone to raise her two children. Because her husband had been a risk taker, she has gone overboard the other way, trying to protect her children from everything. Chance gave her a job working at his store because he felt a responsibility to help her. He had been part of the same climbing group as her husband and felt it was important to help. He also used his climbing as a way to escape from his past. He also was very attracted to her and wanted to see where it might go. Jenna wanted nothing to do with him because of what she saw as his recklessness, and thought it would be a bad influence on her children. Both had major issues to overcome, but the resolution was fantastic.
Chance is the third brother along with Liam and Brad. Chance is the numbers and business brother who manages the family owned feed store. Chance loves extreme sports and is the invincible brother. When his friend's wife moves to town with her two children, working at the store brings memories of the friend's death to Chance and bad memories of the rock climbing accident and her deceased husbands risk taking and lack of dependability to Jenna, his wife. This story reveals how guilt and feeling obligated to help involves Chance into Jenna's life. Chance has to learn about accountability and Jenna has to learn to trust. A good storyline with great hidden emotions, feelings and past that have to be revealed in order to develop the plot. Another great book by Stockham.
