Therefore, I do what any sensible guy does when he’s trying to get a girl’s attention, I ask her out.
Except I’m too late.
Thanks to the job offer on the New York Lions Social media team, Scout’s focus is on work, so while pining for her I focus on making her my friend instead. Friends first, date later.
Or at least I thought.
The more time we spend together though, the harder it becomes for both of us to deny our feelings.
And when a new company policy makes it almost impossible for us to give in, we find ourselves falling for one another.
Now all we need to do is keep our relationship a secret until after the playoffs, and avoid Coach breathing down our necks.
The Strike Zone is a dangerous place to stay, but we’re going out swinging.
Lulu started writing by accident, and somehow found herself stuck in a fictional world of ice hockey, baseball and billionaires. A world she has no plans to leave. She's the creator of The New York Players Series, The Tuesday Club Series, and The New York Lions - the worst team in the M.L.B.
More recently she's ventured across the Atlantic to where her latest novel is set - the beautiful cities of Oxford and Cambridge, and the annual rowing showdown on the River Thames.
She's a big fan of strong heroines, because those fierce alphas need someone to keep them in check. You'll find her navigating her way through Romance Land one HEA at a time, and trying to figure out the latest social media platform she needs to post to.
3.5 stars. The Strike Zone is a he falls first, friends to lovers, workplace, secret relationship, boy obsessed, sports romance. It’s the 4th book in the standalone New York Lions baseball series.
Parker King has been obsessed with Scout Davison for quite some time, and she has no idea! Scout works on the social media team for the baseball team, while Parker is on the team (he’s the catcher)! I love a friends to lovers and this was a great example of a relationship built on a friendship first and a slow build to more (for her at least, cause he was all in already lol). This has a bit of a forbidden workplace romance since they both work for the team and there is a “no dating” rule, Scout is also up for a promotion and not wanting to mess with that hence the secret relationship moments!
The whole series is just a fun one! Great friend and teammate crew to follow. Book 1 remains my fav though. I received an audio ALC, all thoughts in this review are my own.
I have really been enjoying this series yall! These characters and this world are just so fun! I had been patiently waiting for Parker and Tanner's books, and Parker's was worth the wait. We all knew he was a boy obsessed but watching him truly fall for his crush was just SOOO CUTE! I loved the timing of everything and how they were friends that slowly budded into more. Parker was SUCH a great guy and a GREAT catch. It was adorable at how much he was trying to play things cool even though everyone knew how much he liked Scout. And then we have Scout. She was trying to be so strong. She had been burned in her previous relationship and had sworn off men but then got asked out by Parker King. THE Parker King who she had heard may have a crush on her. Watching her navigate him suddenly being everywhere and flirting with him was hilarious. She could only hold out for so long! The tension and chemistry between these two was great. What I really liked though was that Parker wanted a relationship. He wanted the spice but more than that.
Parker has had the worst timing over the past year. He has wanted to ask Scout out since he met her a year ago. But so much was happening with his friends that he didn't think he could give her the attention she deserved. So he waited and then SHE started dating someone. Now she is single again and Parker is going to make his move. The problem- she wants to focus on his career. She would love to be friends though. But Parker can see that he has an effect on her. So he is going to be the best friend she ever had. If he happens to be working out shirtless and she walks in, he will push on that. He will send her funny GIFs to make her laugh. He is a patient man. So when he sees that she is slowly opening up, he continues with his plan. And then fate intervenes and they have their first kiss. It is BEYOND anything he could have thought. Now they are exploring each other. They are together. The challenge is this new HR form they have to sign stating they are dating. Scout is nervous to do so because of this job she is interviewing for. She asks if they can hide it for a bit. Parker wants to shout it to the world that she is his. But coach is on him and when his secret becomes public knowledge he messes up. He reacts and now he just hopes he can get to Scout in time to tell her how he feels about her before it's too late.
Scout is on the other side of a trainwreck of a relationship. She has sworn off men. She is going to be focusing on work. And now that she has been approached about a job possibility- even more so. So color her shocked that when Parker King asks her out she sticks with her plan. Despite how he gives her butterflies. Despite how she can't stop thinking about him recently. She says they should stay friends. And that's what they do. Suddenly he is everywhere. Offering to help her and listening to her talk and asking her alll the questions. She realizes that the wall she has tried to build is slowly crumbling. She realizes she can only see the man shirtless so many times without wanting to touch him. She realizes how much she enjoys and looks forward to flirting with him. So when her she finds herself in a one bed situation with him - they kiss. And it is BEYOND what she could have expected. Their connection has grown so strong. She really really likes him. She likes how much he empowers her and encourages her. But she gets freaked about the HR form. They can keep things on the DL for a bit right? But then stakes are revealed and their secret is out. Things are said that hurt. But when Parker needs her the most of course she is there because she loves him. She just has to tell him.
This was a pretty slow burn. The spice didnt start until after the 60% mark and did I mention how much I loved Parker King's mouth- WOW. A part of me wishes there was time for more of them but the pacing wouldn't allow for that. I liked watching Scout get to interact with everyone at Casa Grayskull. I just really enjoyed watching these two build a foundation and then grow from it! I am really digging the boy obsessed books and the lengths they go to get their ladies. Now I am PUMPED about Tanner and Millie. Can't wait to read how everything happened between them- as sad as it will be to watch the series end. I can't recommend it enough!
Thank you to Valentine PR and Lulu for a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review!
At this point, I have no idea what my favourite book in the series is because they’re all too good!! I can’t pick!
The Strike Zone is the fourth (and second to last, don’t remind me! SAD FACE) book in Lulu Moore’s New York Lions series. It’s a Baseball, Secret Relationship/Forbidden, Friends to Lovers Romance.
If there’s one thing about me, it is that I love Lulu Moore’s books and that I ADORE this series, and The Strike Zone was no exception!
I really don’t want the New York Lions series to be coming to an end, but I cannot wait for Tanners’ book (Home Run), especially because it has one of my all time favourite tropes, Surprise Pregnancy!!
Thank you so much to Lulu Moore and Valentine PR for the ARC!!
I loove Lulu Moore's books, so it was such a pleasure to read something new by her! Thank you soo much for the opportunity to read it in advance, Lulu and Valentine Pr.
This is the 4th book of 'The New York Lions' series, but it can be read as a standalone.
Parker King is a baseball player who had a huge crush for team's representative of social media, Scout Davison. But Parker never had the chance to act on his feelings because either he wasn't available or Scout. Now they were both single, after Scout's recent breakup, so Parker had the clearance to fight for her. Buut there was still a catch: there was a new rule the team created which forced all players and stuff to come forward with their relationships. Another problem arouse when Scout was approached for a new job, for which she didn't wanted to be connected to a baseball player, wanting to earn it by herself.
I just loooved Parker! He was the one who fell first and really hard for Scout. This crush became his goal, to finally call her his. Their road to happiness was filled with bumps but the love was stronger, destroying everything that came into their way. Scout was such a strong woman and I loved her personality. Parker was sooo adorable and such a golden retriever🤭. He would have done anything to make Scout give him a chance.
As always, I had such a blast reading a book by Lulu, having the best characters, with such colorful personalities. I giggled so much at their interactions and I adored the somewhat secret, forbidden relationship, because everyone knew about Parker's crush. If you love sports romance or if it's your first encounter, you should give this book and series a chance!
KU Read Baseball - All Star Catcher Workplace Romance He Falls First (had a long time crush) Forced Proximity (One Bed) Secret Relationship
Book 4 in the series returns to Cassa Greyskull with Parker King finally ready to get out of the friendzone and go after the girl he had been crushing on for over a year now she is finally single. Scout however is not ready to jump back into a relationship but honestly, she's had the hots for Parker for a long time too. Instead she agrees to be friends for now... And Parker will take what he can get, vowing to be the best friend ever that she realises how much he wants her. No real 3rd act break up, funny banter and strong friendships with recurring characters... Love this series!
I wanted to preface by saying that I had no expectations for this one, mostly because Parker is not my favorite from the boys (my favorite is Tanner, and I can't wait for his book!!) But still I love Lulu's writing style, and I knew I was in for some fun, and oh boy, did I laugh with this one. Parker and Scout were so much fun to read. Their banter and would they/won't they moments were great. I love it when they were in their little world and have these cute moments... I swooned! Side characters as per usual were fantastic (where is Holiday's book Lulu!! I need it!!) And the cameos *muffled scream* Yes! I appreciated them and approved them 😍 Overall, this was a fun entry to this series, and I just know the next one is going to be wild!
Thank you to Valentine PR and the author for the chance to read this book in exchange for an honest review.
i’m speechless i’m in love im sad i finished this. what else is there to say😭😭
ALC
I love every single book in this series, but this is a high contender for #1! Our MMC, Parker King, has been obsessed with our FMC Scout Davidson, and lets just say that he is SMITTEN!! She is a little heartbroken from her past relationship so he is open to being friends. But do friends bring you your coffee order (albeit a WEIRD one) every single day?? If they do, then I need new friends.
Such an amazing book and I was in loveeeee from the beginning!! The narrators killed this and it is def one I will need to relisten too:)
This was my first book I've read in the series, but it's been on my tbr forever. I loved this book! I was able to listen to it in one sitting! I absolutely fell for Parker. He was such a Golden Retriever. I loved the chemistry and banter that he had with Scout. This was such a fun and sweet read. I definitely recommend for all lovers of friends to lovers, forbidden/Workplace romances, and golden retriever mmcs❤️❤️🤭
Thank you Lulu and VPR for this ALC for my honest review!
This is my first from LuLu Moore but def won’t be my last. Parker was everything and more. Sweet yet dirty. A catcher who wants to catch his girl. Scout is running but not fast enough to not give in to the pull from Parker. They are explosive. The audio is amazing. The narrators brought this story to life in the most fantastical way.
Can my review simply be that this book was perfection? Because it was! Parker falls so hard for Scout and patiently waits to to make his move. Scout is focused on work and doesn't want anyone to know about them. The secret relationship and the way Parker just loves Scout was everything. Robert Hatchet and Emma Wilder bring the story life and capture all the sizzling, hot chemistry.
All the stars please! Parker has been into Scout for over a year, now that she’s single, he’s not going to let her slip through his fingers again!
“When you’re ready to be more than friends, say the word. I’ll sign that damn form any day of the week.”
🌶️🌶️🌶️.5
I read most of this book in an operating waiting room while my husband had surgery for a broken hand, I can’t imagine all the stares I got from the way I grinned and smiled through this whole book. Parker comes off as this sweet shy guy who can’t string a sentence together in front of Scout, but when he realizes she might like him too? It’s on! He uses his sexy voice on her, and then he lets her watch while he jerks off in the shower. Friends first due to Scout coming out of a bad relationship with Ranger Douche, and then the pressure of signing a dating for through HR causes these two to date in secret, which is kind of hot, but also sucks because literally everyone knows Parker has it bad for Scout, to include Jupiter Reeves (that’s right, I love him so much I’ll try and slip him in anywhere). You know a book is good when, yes you get the warm tinglies from how romantic or hot the characters are, but also when you get your emotions involved. In my case I got genuinely pissed at Scout near the end over a disagreement they had, my brain was like how dare you! You better go groveling back to Parker!
************************ “I’d almost gotten used to the way my heart kicked up whenever he was near me, or the way my mouth dried a little as I stared at his lips and I tried not to think of what they would feel like to kiss, like I was doing right now. But it was hard.”
“I’d just watched him jerk off, and he was now staring at me with undiluted smugness. I could almost see his brain ticking over, calculating his next move.”
“Enjoying yourself?” “I…” “Oh, come on now, Davison, don’t go all shy on me.” He stepped nearer, though from the way his narrowed eyes never left mine, stalked would be a better description, one steady foot in front of the other. “Did you enjoy yourself?” My flushed cheeks answered for me. One more step. “If I’d known I had an audience, I’d have really dialed it up.”
This was my first book by Lulu Moore (even though this is the 4th book of the New York Lions series). It will DEFINITELY not be my last - I love her writing & the characters so much!
-Can you say golden retriever MMC??? Parker King = book bf material. Seriously a man obsessed. Scout is a badass too - I loved watching her feelings transform throughout the book. -The banter between the players - this is why I love sports romances 😂 the pranks the guys pulled on each other - perfection!
Easy to follow, so much fun with some good steam. 😏 The narration was perfect - inflections and pace of the narrators are perfect! And the ending makes me ready for the next book already. 👀
Highly recommend listening to this interconnected standalone book! ✨
Tropes: -Baseball romance -Friends to lovers -Workplace/forbidden romance -He falls first
Thank you Lulu Moore and Valentine PR for allowing me to listen and review this book. ❤️
Parker King is a baseball player who has had this duet on his teams social media queen, Scout Davison. Once she's finally single, Parker makes his move, only to be told Scout wants to stay single and focus on an upcoming job interview for a promotion. So, Parker does the next best thing and decides he needs to be friends first and then date her later. Then a new company dating policy comes up that starts making their situation a little stickier and threatened consequences once they do decide to date.
It's been a while since I've seen someone pine after a girl like Parker does, and boy do I love it. Parker and Scout have amazing chemistry, even when they are doing the just friends thing. The way Parker loves Scout is what dreams are made of and I love that Scout is able to live Parker back the same way. The biggest thing I didn't like about this book was how upset Parker got when he found out that Scout needed more time for her interview. I get why he was upset, but it just seemed very out of character for him. Other than that, I really enjoyed this one. I definitely plan on diving into the rest of the books in this series!
Emma Wilder and Robert Hatchet were amazing together in this! I would definitely seek out books with this narrator pairing again!
A big thank you to the author and Must Love Audio for an advanced copy of this audiobook. Opinions are my own.
THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU IF: You love fun golden retriever guys who know what they want and don't back down from getting it.
‘I don’t think you’re in the friend zone yet. You’re definitely still in the strike zone.’
I couldn’t put this book down!
I’ve been so looking forward to Parker finally getting his girl after The Baller and as ever, Lulu Moore did not disappoint.
Poor Parker missed his chance to ask Scout out when they first met, and has spent the past year pining for her. But now she’s single (and planning to keep it that way) he takes his chance to befriend her and show her exactly how he’d treat her if she were his….and spoiler alert, he’s very convincing!
‘Parker King had successfully become the best part of my day.’
New rules that mean NY Lions players have to declare any workplace relationships to HR make things difficult whilst Scout is interviewing for a possible promotion, and means they have to keep their new relationship under wraps for a while.
This story is full of super cute, swoony moments, along with cameos and mentions of many of our favourite Lulu characters which I loved. It’s always great to see our best bat dog too!
Throughout the book we also get lots of teasers about Tanner and Millie who are next up in the series, and after that epilogue I really can’t wait for them!
Huge thank you to Lulu and Valentine PR for this wonderful ARC.
This was one of the most beautiful romances I’ve ever read, especially because I absolutely love the kind of men Lulu writes. They’re patient, attentive, and truly listen—real adult characters. Even though this is only the second book I’ve read by her, I’m already eager to dive into the rest of her work. I love how she doesn’t rely on overly dramatic conflicts to drive the story; instead, she gives us real-life situations with believable, grown-up people. Of course, there's still that magical touch—that little reminder that we’re reading a novel—but I feel incredibly satisfied with my decision to read her. I’m genuinely happy to have discovered her work, even if she’s been writing for a while, and I definitely plan to keep reading her books.
4.5 stars! This is the fourth book in the New York Lion series, but can be read as a standalone. I listened to the audiobook for this, narrated in dual by Robert Hatchet and Emma Wilder. They both did an amazing job at bringing this story to life! Parker is literally the sweetest man, giving off all the golden retriever vibes, and has been crushing on Scout so hard for so long! They both are so sweet and I literally am in love with them! The banter between them is so easy to eat up and perfect for their story!
What to expect: -Baseball romance -Friends to lovers -Workplace romance -Secret relationship -He falls first
Thank you so much to Lulu Moore and Valentine PR for letting me listen and review an ALC of this book! All opinions are my own.
i have been WAITING to get to parker & scout’s romance and omg this did not let me down in the slightest! parker king is the definition of boy obsessed. if you don’t believe me, look it up in the dictionary. you will find a picture of his face (and the best butt in baseball!) right next to the moniker. the way he pined for scout and went out of his way to make her feel treasured, even as a friend, was so sweet. this was definitely the most slow-burn of all the books in the series so far, but it suited their friends-to-lovers dynamic so well.
their story was full of swoon-worthy acts of service, crazy shenanigans, and the best banter 🤩 it was just really cute and really sweet, nothing too exciting or wild!
Note to self: stop trusting book recommendations off of TikTok. The one scene that motivated me to read this book was the biggest disappointment of my day. The amount of times the word “butt” was used was way more than actual romantic scenes the main characters had. Parker was obsessed with Scout (yes that’s her name) and it would have been sweet if she gave him any notion that she was into him. But no, he knew her favorite color, her favorite animal, where she grew up, etc. All without having a real conversation with her. It didn’t feel romantic, it just felt stalker-ish. When they did finally get together it was completely out of left field. One second they’re friends and the next they’re kissing? They weren’t even sweet when they were together, like other people made it seem, we got a lot of telling instead of showing their feelings for each other. I’m just supposed to assume they really like each other, (there was never a time where I thought she genuinely liked him). Also, their breakup that lasted a a whole hour was so unnecessary and a complete waste of time. Off topic, but I really didn’t need all those baseball scenes, cut half of them and the book might almost be bearable. Almost. Actuality no, just scrap this whole book.
I've recently discovered Lulu Moore, so I've been jumping into all her series. So, even though this is book 4 in The New York Lions series, it's my first read in the series. I love friends to lovers stories, so I was really excited to dive into Parker and Scout's story- and it was so charming and fun. This one had me laughing and smiling and overall was just a feel good read.
A smitten golden retriever baseballer Parker (the catcher, my fav) long pining for his bestie Scout. But the forbidden lines aren't only just about crossing the friend zone- she also works for the team, that pesky little no fraternization policy also makes theirs a workplace forbidden romance too. So even once they are able to jump into their feelings (thanks to some encouragement with friends) they still have to keep things secret.
I love friends to lovers so much because the chemistry created by their familiarity, the care they already have for each other, and the shared history- when done right, it can be the best of the best when it comes to creating character chemistry. And here Lulu does it really well- I loved the authenticity of the friendship between these two, their playfulness and banter, the general affection they have for each other. And I love how naturally they are able to progress, and how Parker catches Scout up to where he is with his feelings. They are really cute together, we have plenty of swoony moments, and their relationship is really sweet.
I loved the side characters, and this has be excited to go back to check out the other stories (and read the one yet to come) to see all these lively folks in action getting their own HEA. I think I'd really enjoy this on audio too (this was my first e-book read of Lulu's)- Lulu's writing and characters lend themselves so well to the format.
When Parker King first set eyes on Scout Davison he fell head over heels in love with her, we’re talking hearts in his eyes stuff, but someone beat him to asking her out and he missed his chance and been lovelorn ever since. Now finding out she was newly single he wasn’t about to waste anymore time only to be friend zoned by Scout who decided she’d rather concentrate on her career doing social media for the Lions than romance but if friendship was all that was on the table then he’d be the best friend she ever had but the more time they spent together the more the lines began to blur but they’d forgotten about the new rule about fraternisation in the workplace.
I absolutely adore The New York Lions series; each new release is better than last. From the bromance between the four roomies, Parker, Tanner, Lux and Ace who were always ready to give advice in all things matter of the heart even when its not asked for to the friendship between Parker and Scout as it deepened, weird coffee orders not withstanding. Their banter was fantastic and had me smiling throughout my read and actually laughing out loud in places I mean with humour involving giant minions and club mascots whats not to love. The characters were all likeable and the writing fantastic with a fabulous flow that had me absorbed from the first page. And after that epilogue I’m counting down the days until Tanner and Millie’s story releases.
The Strike Zone by Lulu Moore is a captivating story about Scout, who, after a tumultuous relationship, is ready to focus on herself and stay single for a while. Parker, on the other hand, is trying to redeem himself after missing his chance to ask Scout out a year ago. He’s been patient, giving her space, but he's also eager to get her on a date. Things get complicated when HR introduces a new rule: no dating within the workplace without first declaring the relationship to the department. While Parker is planning to finally ask Scout out, she’s busy interviewing for a potential promotion.
Lulu Moore knows how to bring the heat and build up the tension! As the two of them attempt to keep their relationship under wraps while Scout navigates the interview process, the chemistry between them is undeniable. With witty banter, heartfelt moments, and plenty of steam, this book will have you hooked from start to finish.
I absolutely adored the dual narration by Emma Wilder and Robert Hatchet—both brought the characters to life beautifully.
Thank you so much to Lulu Moore and Valentine PR for the ALC! 🤍
It felt so good to be back in this world that I truly missed!
Since the very beginning when I started this series, Parker was one of the guys that I was more interested to know more about and this book did not disappoint.
I love Parker and his vibe - he is truly the boy obsessed I love and the way he worships the female main character like she deserves and that was undoubtedly one of my favorite parts of this book.
Scout was amazing as well - I love how fearless she was and how she fought for her job. She is that kind of main character that knows what she wants and what she needs to do in order to have - and that was something I found myself mesmerized by.
The romance and the baseball aspect was well done like the previous books and it truly gave all the feels I was expecting.
Another thing that I really appreciate was the audiobook performance by Emma Wilder and Robert Hatched - it made the story more emotional and truly addictive.
I can’t wait for book 5, I know that will be one of my favorites for sure!
LOVED IT Can’t believe how much I loved parker and scout story, returning to the New York lions it was a delight to read these two were so easy to connect and fall in love with but as always Lulu never has disappointed me with her characters.
With the tropes he fall’s first, I was excited to see how much Parker was besotted with scout and how much help he gets from his team mates even the grumpy Jupiter helps out💓.
I still can’t get over the friend dynamic between the Parker, Ace ,Lux and Tanner it always makes me smile with four men living together it just works.
Even better for me we get a cameo from Jupiter reeves 🥵 love how we get to see the relationship still going strong with Drew💓💓 his brother in-law.
The Strike Zone - ARC review Happy release day to book #4 in the The New York Lions series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️
Lulu’s done it again. Just when I think I’ve got a favorite Lions player here comes another in the series. I’ll now hold all my thoughts on my favorite Lions player until the series wraps!
Parker King is down bad. He’s been biding his time for Scout Davison to be single. And when the stars align he decides to bite the bullet and take a swing. Imagine his shock when she declines due to it not being the right time to which they decide to embark on developing a friendship instead. He’s dead set on winning her over and changing her mind. And she’s convinced on her need to stay single and make eventual better relationship choices. Except. Does she? Her willpower is wavering because the chemistry between the two is obvious to everyone. When control wavers the pair finds themselves in a precarious position that threatens their future. I loved this one but so sad that it brings us one book closer to the end! Read if you’re in the mood for a read where he falls first and is down baddddd for his love interest and is the swooniest of cinnamon rolls!!
4.5 Stars- the timing of this book with opening day is chef’s kiss.
Parker is my favorite kind of MMC— confident that he’ll win over the girl. He’s got no shame about that and speaks about it like it’s inevitable and I ate it up. Scout was amazing and I love how she was in their transition from friends to lovers.
These two were SPICY. Like wow spicy. I think their chemistry helped a ton with that but I loved how well it was done.
I loved how this also felt like a hug for the series.
I received an advanced copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
Move over, friends! This is officially my new favorite Lulu book! I buddy read this with my friend Jules and we literally couldn't put it down, nor could we stop giddily smiling the entire time! This book was absolutely perfection from start to finish!
What you'll get: - He falls first and so hard...like SO HARD - Friends to lovers - Workplace romance - Baseball romance - Secret relationship/Forbidden
I'm going to need everyone to stop what they're doing and go read this book because Scout and Parker were absolute perfection!
