Gharantia's Fury far surpassed my expectations! I was sucked in, just wanting to learn more about this original world Douglas has created. The characters, plot and world building have all been turned up to 11.

Our whole cast of characters have returned, with quite a few new ones joining the fold.
They each feel deeper and more thoughtful in this entry.

The world building remains top notch. This series is original and fresh. I've found myself enthralled in the lore and history. Douglas has created a huge world with a timeline tracing thousands of years.

The plot continues right where we left it in Guardian, but it becomes clearer. As we see the stakes rise, more mysteries present themselves and we are left wanting more and more. The content actually leaned a little darker than I had expected. I really liked this aspect, as war is a very dark and nasty thing.

I couldn't be much happier with this entry into the Chronicles of the Endless War.

The god's war is on Gharantia's doorstep, but Criterious and his allies are not prepared. With a mess of political and interpersonal machinations keeping the key players apart, will they be able to overcome their own faults to save the city and the world from Lord Xuren?

Gharantia's Fury picks up right where Gharantia's Guardian leaves off. Many of the puzzle pieces set up in the first book are beautifully further developed or paid off in this book, which ends with a battle of epic proportions.

At it's core GF remains focused on the relationships between the core characters all the while they struggle against the greater threat, trying to put aside their differences and grow into better versions of themselves or accept the shortcomings of the others. It made for well balanced characterization and compelling dialogue throughout.

My biggest criticism of GG was the lack of a climax, so I'm happy to say that GF gave us an amazing one. After realizing there wasn't a lot of action in GG, I was concerned that Douglas may be uncomfortable with fight scenes, but boy was I wrong. The big battle was awesome, visceral, and unique with the monsters and magic we've seen throughout the series being dialed to eleven making for an amazing spectacle. Truly worth the wait.

Gharantia's Fury expanded on everything that made Gharantia's Guardian great. Douglas has outdone herself in every way. Read the Chronicles of the Endless War series. It has something for every fantasy fan.

I loved the first book, and this was a highly anticipated second book. This book did not disappoint.

The pacing of the story is very well done, it keeps the reader engaged through the whole book and never lets you go. The world is immersive and although you spend the majority of the time in and around Gharantia, the author pulls the magic trick of expanding the world and lore through her character development.

The story is consistently evolving through the book and keeps the reader on the edge of their seat. The underlying machinations of the gods and the royal court are a great mystery that I can't wait to see play out in the next book.

So we’re back on the world of Gharantia. Oh boy are we back, with a hell of a good romp! 🔥💣

I was really looking forward to seeing where book 2 went, and how the authors craft has matured, and I wasn’t disappointed!

Firstly….I LOVE Pallemina, she is such a deep character with her 2 entities (?), which is so cleverly written, and she is a firm favourite for me. Her leaving was a surprise, and it’s still a mystery on where they are off to, but she’s a very different person to that who arrived in Gharantia, one who won’t be pushed around as she was before. I love her bond with Criterious, and hope they will be reunited. Her development was so good, you can’t help but love her.

Now that Melane and Criterious aren’t bonded, their relationship is rather strained, especially given the revelation on how that bond came about, but they try to work together for the sake if their people!! Damn those queens are manipulative!!

We see new POVs here too, with the introduction of the Migrin, who are controlled by Lord Xuren. What a nasty, shitty piece of work he is! His cruelty is very apparent, and I’mhopinghe meets an equally cruel end at some point.

There is some great development here, with both the world building, and character growth. Criterious especially comes into his own with his link to Pallemina now complete, and his skills are much stronger now he’s not under the shadow of Melane.

We get to see Kywren more too, and he’s really grown on me, with his POV showing his inner thoughts and feelings. His bond with Velardis is a twisted, spiteful thing, and we see how this majes him feel…we also see him trying to pull against it…go Kywren!!!

Velardis is an utter bitch, who I despise wholeheartedly, and if it wasn’t for the rest of her people, I’d be cheering on Xuren to wipe her out, preferably in a very gruesome manner!

The pace has really picked up now, and we have an epic battle, with many deaths, in a particularly horrific manner, but the fire from Tower was incredible, clever and so destructive!

With so many revelations and players, this story just keeps getting better, and I binge read the last half of the book, to see where it went. It was a hell of a ride, and left us wanting so much more.

Lorraine has woven a magical story, with just the right amount of tension, a sprinkle of romance, and a whole hell of a lot of mystery, evil, and sorcery. She dove headfirst into a major battle and wasn’t scared to show us the devastating effects of war, which was visceral and heartbreaking, but with such clever use of magic.

I’m now left craving more….so please for the love of the gods, don’t make us wait too long for book 3!!

⚠️Please note that this is the second book in the series. This review will contain spoilers if you have not read the first book.⚠️

Welcome back to Gharantia, we return to a queendom almost brought to its knees.
It will have to rise and prepare for the war of God's that is coming.

Queen Velardis seems weakened. Is it Kywren being away?

Discoveries are made by Kywren and Pilt. Will it help save Gharantia?

Lord Xuren is ready to fight by any means possible. Ferta mer, how could we ever survive the fury of a god? He has even brought Saraverre, the harbinger of war.
What could they possibly be after?

We can not forget our "poor" Criterious. He is in more emotional turmoil than he bargained for.
He is, indeed, still half bonded with Pallemina, for better and for worse.
Still, his feelings are wounded by Melane shying them. Staying away.

"Why do you smell of horseshit?"

Now... Who is the Red King?
Will the Dunegar ever stop hunting Pilt?
And how is a toad named Troll connected to it all?🤭

I enjoyed my return to this realm of magic again. Some puzzle pieces are coming together, yet our characters' actions raise more, and I simply must wait for the next journey.

"Damn the mists!" How is the future of Gharantia this unclear?

I received this book as an ARC from the author herself. I will be unbiased nonetheless!

All of our favorite characters return (and our not so-much favorite as well, I'm looking at you Kywren!) and so does the action.

This book felt like the very natural progression from Gharantia's Guardian, both in pace and characters development. The book is well built and paced while we keep discovering more and more of the world and its inhabitants, which is always a great thing, where in other books many writers just decide book 1 is worldbuilding and book 2 must have none of that and be all action/chardev.

Pallemina remains a firm favorite, she's the character that took Criterious out of his honorable blandness and made him much more interesting. In a sense she is that snake that signals rebirths. As she made both Melane and Criterious better characters going forward.

Velardis remains a dastardly character and I despise her with all my being...even if I kinda-understand some of her decisions, the way she goes about them is awful. Just like her mom.

Kywren is slowly growing on me, he just annoys me right now.

There are many revelations in this book, and that keeps everything tight and flowing forward. The book never feels stale or boring, as there's always a forward momentum.

Lorraine made this world vibrant, vivid and everything feels like it fits together in the grand scheme of things.
The book has some kinks and bumps, but it's still a great 5* read.

Gharantia's Fury is a solid follow-up to Gharantia's Guardian, and it's safe to say a strong continuation of an interesting series. Whereas Guardian was much more of a personal tale, in that we spend the entire story building the characters of Criterious, Pilt, Kywren, Pallamina, and Melane, it's really in Fury that everything comes to a head. In essence, it almost feels like Guardian and Fury were meant to be a single story, but that does not take away from the enjoyability of each book.

Picking up right after the events of Guardian, Fury ratchets up the tension between characters and the coming gods' war. More points of view characters are introduced and we are also given far more backstory on Kywren and Melane. Pallamina remains my fave character, but I will say Criterious was much more enjoyable this time around as he wasn't so honorable, we actually learn there were reasons, some dubious, to his actions in book 1. I will be honest, Pilt's arc in this book was fairly non-existent so that was a bit of a letdown since I really enjoyed him in book 1.

There's plenty more magic, plenty more action, lots of sword clashing, plus some interesting lore dropped throughout the story. There is a lot to love about this series and I'm looking forward to what book 3 has in store!

I received an ARC copy of this book.
Thrilling sequel of "Gharantia's Guardian", Douglas brings us back to Gharantia and the lives of our favourites characters.
It's hard to pick a favourite when each character is so well fleshed out and complex with their own conflicts and internal dialogue as they prepare to face Lord Xuren and the God's war.
Douglas' worldbuilding is masterful and you can find yourself immersed in another land with its complex magic system and intricate politics in no time. Tension is certainly building as the characters began to unveil ancient mysteries and secrets, with jaw-dropping plot twists and heart-pumping battle scenes.
I can't wait to grab the next instalment in this epic story!
