She needs a fake boyfriend. He needs a cover story. But with a past this complicated, they can only pretend for so long.
Oliver Beck is a man with sharp edges, deep secrets, and one never get involved. Until he walks into a café and finds the girl who shattered him sitting across the table. And realizes she's his best shot at getting close to the people who destroyed everything he loved.
Zahra Nazarian doesn't need rescuing. She needs someone her ex can't dismiss and her family will believe. And with their history, Oliver is exactly convincing enough to sell it.
Neither of them planned on the moment the lie stopped feeling like business and started looking like forever.
But with an obsessive ex who thinks he still has a claim on her, a family determined to agree with him, and a mountain of secrets between them, their second chance looks less like love written in the stars… and more like an asteroid on a collision course.
The Love Hypothesis meets Pride and Prejudice in this angsty, high-heat, slow-burn romance about redemption, revenge, and the kind of love that comes back burning brighter than ever.
Author of smutty love stories, painter of whiskey, and namer of beers.
Kyra is a big city girl who somehow scored an apartment with a balcony and parking space, where she lives with her two energetic cubs and MD husband who lives in perpetual fear of how efficiently she polishes off a rack of ribs.
Kyra's books range from slow-burn contemporary to insta-lust erotic romance and star alpharoll men, soft yet strong women, an abundance of spice, and an added bonus of dirty talk.
I love a good second chance romance. Oliver and Zahra haven't seen each other in almost 10 years when they run into each other one day. She's desperate for a date to a wedding and he needs the money. What could go wrong? The characters and banter were so much fun. There were lots of deep reasons for them being apart for so long that finally came to light.
This follows the Second chance romance between Oliver & Zahra.
Zahra needs a stand in for 2 months, Oliver conflicted because of their past. Oliver decides to accept the job with vengeful intent but things start change over time & something new begins to blossom.
Worth the read & would absolutely recommend it to others. Thank you for allowing me to adv read 🫶🏻
Tropes: Second Chance Revenge Small Town Rent-A-Date HEA
Rent Me: Oliver pulled me in from the very first page and didn’t let go. Zahra and Oliver are the kind of characters who stay with you—flawed, layered, magnetic, and impossible not to root for. Their chemistry practically crackled off the page.
This story delivers some of my favorite tropes: second-chance romance, fake dating, and forced proximity. When Zahra finds out her toxic ex is going to be a groomsman at her cousin’s wedding (seriously, why was he even invited?!), she hires a date—and is shocked when the app matches her with Oliver, the one person from her past she never thought she’d see again.
Zahra is just trying to survive the weekend without letting her awful ex make her feel small, while keeping the wedding from becoming a disaster. Oliver is working two jobs, putting everyone else’s needs above his own, just trying to care for his younger brother. Neither of them expected this arrangement to reopen old wounds or, worse, rekindle something neither was ready to face.
But it’s exactly what they both needed.
What I loved most about this book is how emotionally complex both characters are. Oliver especially broke my heart—he’s selfless to a fault, always putting others first, convinced he doesn’t deserve love. Zahra has her own quiet battles, and watching them try to protect themselves emotionally while clearly falling harder with each chapter was frustrating, raw, and beautiful.
And while I loved the emotional weight of the story, I will admit that a few of the plot twists felt slightly over the top, and I wish the situation with Ryan (her ex) had been handled a bit more directly. It was uncomfortable watching someone so toxic have access to her life—but I also understand that his presence is what sets this whole story in motion.
That said, Rent Me: Oliver is full of heart, heat, and healing. The emotional payoff was everything I wanted. It’s witty, angsty, full of tension, and delivers that deeply satisfying earned happily ever after.
Part of the Foxy’s Rent-A-Date series, this book has definitely made Penny Fox an author I’ll keep coming back to.
Romantic. Emotional. A little messy. Utterly worth it.
I went back and forth with how to rate this book because some aspects just annoyed me. Overall, yes I did enjoy the book., don’t get me wrong. You have Oliver who was wronged as a teen by a girl who comes back into his life 7yrs later. What could go wrong?
They each have their own agenda for why they end up needing each other. Oliver was trying to right a wrong done to his family, and Zahra was trying to have a buffer between her and a manipulative ex. There is some plot twisting and a lot of people are involved, but essentially nothing gets done and everything is just brushed off. It was like you get all this information just for nothing to come of it.
Then at the end where Zahra and Oliver are trying to make things real, it feels like there was a one sided double standard. She gets mad at him for keeping some secrets to himself and when he finally does tell her, she throws it in his face and leaves… She didn’t bother to tell him what had happened to make her pull away from him. Yes, you get a glimpse, but Oliver doesn’t get that story. He didn’t use her, and put her first throughout the whole wedding. Zahra let herself be manipulated by her family and ex and didn’t even give Oliver a chance. And at the end, I would have loved to see Oliver go back for his PhD since he had passed up that chance.. I would have loved to see if Zahra’s company/career took off since everything hinged on that 1 wedding.
Butttttt despite all that, it was a good storyline. These things are probably just a me thing.

When he gets the date notification he is at first excited for the prospect of a long agreement that could really help with all the debt and upcoming bills for him and his brother. Unfortunately he is brought back down quickly when he sees who the client is ... Zahra Nazarian. You see these two have a history and it did not end well. However when he immediately denies the date Foxy calls and demands that he at least take the initial date and find out what they are looking for.
She needs a fake boyfriend to take to her cousins wedding. She is the wedding planner and her EX is in the wedding party. Can they find an agreement that will allow Oliver to get the money and an excuse to go back to his home town while also keeping Zahra safe but at arms length?
Yes....but also no...
This book is fantastic with all the little pieces going on in the background. Discovering everyone's secrets and coming out happy gets harder and harder as the wedding date gets closer. Is it possible for them to remain just fake dating with all their past history and the forced proximity? Of course not but will they all crash and burn at the end of the day?
I absolutely loved the characters. They are dedicated to the people they love. They are working their butts off to be the best versions of themselves they can be while also following their dreams. Everything Oliver does for his brother is absolutely fantastic and the relationship they have is so sweet and genuine.
I can't wait to see who's up next from Foxy's Rent-A-Date world.
Rent Me: Oliver, but wow—pulled me in right from the start and didn’t let go. Zahra and Oliver are the kind of characters that stick with you: flawed, layered, and absolutely magnetic together. Their chemistry practically jumped off the page.
The story blends second-chance romance with fake dating and forced proximity—some of my favorite tropes. When Zahra finds out her toxic ex is going to be a groomsman at her cousin’s wedding (seriously, why would anyone invite him?!), she hires a date... and ends up matched with Oliver, the one man from her past she thought she’d never see again.
What I loved most was how emotionally complex both characters were. Oliver especially broke my heart a little—he's so selfless, always putting others first, and doesn’t think he deserves love. Zahra has her own trauma she’s trying to manage quietly, and watching them try to protect themselves while clearly falling for each other was both frustrating and beautiful.
That said, I did feel like there were a few too many dramatic coincidences and twists that made the plot feel a bit crowded. And I wish the whole Ryan situation had been handled more directly—it was tough seeing someone so awful have access to her space like that. But I also get that his presence is what kicks off the story.
In the end, though, the tension, angst, and emotional payoff made it so worth it. This is the kind of romance that gives you all the feels—heat, heartbreak, healing, and a hard-earned happy ending.
From the beginning, I knew this book was going to be one that destroyed me and boy was I right! Kyra does a great job right from the beginning letting the reader feel the tension between Oliver and Zahra. As the reader, you really get the sense that there was a past there, something that pulled these two individuals together (and not necessarily in a romantic way) but that connection was fractured. I loved getting to see these two navigate their "arrangement" all while trying to keep their feelings separate, something that as time goes on proves to be extremely difficult for both of them. I loved getting to see just how much they both tried to fight the attraction and just how perfect they were when they were willing to just give in and let the feelings they had been denying for so long and hiding from in an effort to protect themselves come to the surface. Their chemistry was off the charts, despite the years apart and you really got the sense of the depth and care each had for one another. I really loved the moments of Oliver silently keeping Ryan at bay and in his own lane, especially since his mere presence in this story made my skin crawl and give me a strong desire to knock his lights out. I loved how in the end the secrets that they were both so desperate to keep from each other were (Finally!) revealed and we did get the second chance romance we were looking for. Great story and certainly another author I will be adding to my never ending TBR list!
I am absolutely elated with this book. Zahra and Oliver are amazing characters to read about. I felt so many emotions within these 330 pages. It’s a second chance romance with a splash of forced proximity, what more could you want? When Zahra finds out her awful ex is going to be a groomsman at her cousins wedding, she needs a shield. Finding Oliver on a rent-a-date app was not what she expected to find, but it is definitely what they both needed. Oliver just wants to take care of his brother, so he take to working two jobs and puts himself on the back burner to make sure the people he cares about most are taken care of. That’s until Zahra walks back into his life 😉 This wild ride takes us through ups and downs of a wedding where everyone has a secret. Zahra is just trying to make sure everything goes off without a hitch. Her creepy ex is trying to make her feel small. Oliver is trying to insure his family is taken care of. And above all, Zahra and Oliver are falling in love even when they clearly stated this was all business. With great writing, an amazing plot, and lovable characters, Rent Me: Oliver will give you everything you could want in a second chance, romance for hire, “one bed” book ✨
Oliver A Foxy’s Rent-A-Date novel By Kyra Fox ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
TRIGGER WARNINGS Family Alienations, Disownment for being LGBTQ+, and mentions/descriptions of abuse in a past relationship
🌠 All the feels 🌠 Friends to almost lovers to enemies to lovers 🌠 Small town drama 🌠 Nerdy book boyfriend 🌠 Strong FMC Trauma growth 🌠 Eggplant count 1
Oliver is like if Murray and Dr. Phil had a baby mix in small town life and a strong baptist christian values, and you get a disaster waiting to happen, especially when the whole town is involved in a wedding for the ages. Oliver Beck is your nerdy guy who never learned how to love, but you can hire him to fool your parents. Don’t worry, he is one of the best Foxy’s has to offer if you ask Zahra Nazarian that is. Zahra is the wedding planner, but one problem is out of her hands: her ex, Rhyan. So she hires her ex-bestfriend to be her buffer, and he accepts for reasons of his own and iit explodes from there. The drama had me gasping, Oliver had me laughing with his Sheldon Cooper vibes, and the ending had me giggling. In true Kyra fashion, the feels hit hard, but the love hits harder. Top it off with some character growth and a dash of found family, and you’ve got another Kyra favorite.
Oliver was such a great character. He was treated horribly in high school and his best friend Zahra just let it happen. He has some lasting internal scars from this treatment and it make him very hesitant to meet up with Zahra after all those years apart. But this goes to show how great he is, because even through all of the bad memories he is willing to put it all aside to help Zahra.
There are a lot of moving parts behind the scenes. Many secrets and mysteries which we finally get answers to by the end of the book. Oliver is trying to find information to get back at his family. Zahra is being pressured by her aunt and ex. But the reasonings behind it all finally come to be seen and it was interesting how some of it overlapped with each other.
I really enjoyed this story and how Oliver was such a great older brother. He did everything he could to give his brother a better life and you could really feel that throughout the story. He was also a great protector of Zahra, even when he had some bad feelings towards her.
I don’t usually read books that are overly emotional (just not my thing) or have TW’s but I’ve read a few books by Kyra Fox and wanted to give this book a try and I was not disappointed! This book is emotional, beautiful and it wrecked me in the best way. I am surprised at how much I loved this story. As someone who was bullied in school I can easily relate to some of what Oliver and Zahra went through. I loved the depth of the characters in this book. It felt like I’ve known them my whole life and their personalities were realistic (nothing crazy or off the wall).
I love the whole idea behind this book to rent a companion! Oliver was the perfect buffer from family and Zahra’s past. Plus it was a second chance for them to reconnect as well as for Oliver to deal with some unfinished business. Zahra is doing her best to be there for her cousin but had to deal with several trolls (some were extended family and others from her past) but is a trooper and pushes through.
This is an awesome book and I hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.
This book was definitely star worthy, to have a past relationship with an escort and have to reach out to him to be a fake boyfriend for a hometown wedding that they both grew up in. Zahra is a wedding planner and it set up to do her cousins wedding and its a big time deal for her business. She unfortunately has to be in close contact with her ex, Ryan. Oliver was an old friend of hers from her hometown and they have history together. She needs to hire him as a buffer to get through the wedding and she will do anything to get him to agree.
Oliver is working towards getting his debt paid off and taking care of his sibling, the money with the contract with Zahra will help him pay things off but also take a walk down memory lane to set up him and his sibling from what was took from them. Once they finally get to their hometown and start getting around her immediately family, that is definitely when emotions run wild on multiple fronts. By the end of the book, I felt like real love conjured all.
Rent me Oliver is a book by Kyra Fox that will have you hooked from the very first page. Kyra is a wonder at bringing you those tropes that we all just love, second chance, fake dating and so much more.
Oliver is the man you want on the end of your arm, that swave exterior that has the looks to go with it. And he is available for the right price. But what happens when he is personally requested and sees the person wanting his services is a blast from his past. There past ending was nothing simplistic and didnt end well and this is what pushes him to say no. But a call from his boss and the fact he really needs this money pushes he back in Zahra’s path.
Zahra is a wedding planner and needs a date to her cousins wedding as her ex will be there and is in the wedding party. Can these two find a common ground that suits both their needs and can their overcome their pasts.
I was of two minds about this book - I liked the friends to enemies to lovers aspect and I will say Zahra and Oliver were so explosive together - not to mention Oliver was so protective and the perfect lover. However I did not like that someone like Ryan would be invited in the first place to her family wedding if they knew his history of bad behavior to Zahra. And if Zahra didn’t tell her family, then her parents should have. But I get it..the Ryan angle was why there is a story. However, I thought the constant coincidences felt a little OTT and overall, I felt the book was a tad too long, dragged out by all the piling on of the coincidences. Expect high angst, steamy scenes, and an unlikely redemption. I voluntarily reviewed a free Advanced Reader Copy of this story.
I really appreciated the complexity of the characters in this story. While it touches on the enemies-to-lovers trope, it goes far beyond the usual formula. The male lead, a wronged and emotionally scarred "lost boy" from high school, stood out as a well-developed and layered character. His growth throughout the book felt authentic and kept me invested.
The emotional and physical journey the couple goes through is anything but simple, which makes their eventual connection feel earned. The author didn’t shy away from portraying the messiness of real relationships, and I found that refreshing. It wasn’t a neat, picture-perfect romance; it was raw, sometimes uncomfortable, but ultimately satisfying.
If you're looking for a romance with depth, complicated pasts, and genuine emotional stakes, this one is worth keeping on your radar.
Oliver is the second book in Foxy's Rent A Date shared World Series. This is a Second Chance Contemporary Romance with a small amount of suspense and spice. Though there is mention of and some minor interaction with other Rent A Date Employees, each book can be read as a standalone.
I liked Oliver, it was well written with an interesting story. There was a large amount of information given for the back story and lead up. There was a lot of characters and working parts to this plot. Normally I am wishing for more details and backstory, unfortunately this time I think it is what kept me from loving this book. It just felt like a lot of build up and then all the suspense was just..done. The resolution was flat and uneventful. Both main characters are loveable. I could easily relate to Oliver's need to give his all. I adored the self awareness journey Zahra takes. Their history and chemistry are the main thing that pulled me into and kept me hooked on this book.
Overall I found this to be an endearing Second Chance Romance, with fantastic characters, and cute science humor.
Oliver works as an escort and a professor, he's earning money to help his brother, Emmett, with his medications and operations. One day he's contacted by Zahra, an ex girlfriend, who needs him to be her pretend boyfriend. It means going back to the home town he left with Emmett, years ago. He needs to go back to do something that he has been planning for several years, the opportunity to go with Zahra is ideal. He has plans on how they can pretend and the amount of touching etc they should do at any given time, he's quite focussed, probably on the spectrum. Trouble is while they are pretending they are actually getting feelings for each other, but by not discussing it things don't improve, in fact with her abusive ex boyfriend there things get worse, can they communicate better and both get what they want?
Second Chance romance is my favourite trope to read and Ms. Fax has given us one that is entertaining and a joy to read. Then she added a fake relationship into the mix and this story was impossible to put down. From the start, I was hooked and needed to see how it was going to work out. Zarah needs a date for a wedding, and when she decides to hire one, little did she know it would be a man from her past, Oliver. He needed money for bills, and being a "date for hire" was one way of doing it. The only thing was that he was not expecting the woman who shattered his life years ago. Is this the perfect situation to get revenge for what she did to him? Or could this be something that could be more about rekindling something that is under the surface? They each have something to lose but at the same time, so much more to gain.
A second chance opportunity, but for what they receiveed is not necessarily what they intended. It has been 10 years since this couple last met. Zahra is a wedding planner, not only planning but attending her cousin's wedding and her ex is in the wedding party. She needs a fake boyfriend to be her plus one and books Oliver. Oliver needs money and a two months contract as a professional Rent a Date is a lucrative offer, but it has its disadvantages and his first inclination is to refuse. The consummate professional to the nth degree within the boundaries of their contract. He has harboured resentment for years and this is an opportunity for revenge. Trust is earned and the past must play into it. They both need something but it may not be as easy as they expect. Likeable characters, complex and emotional situation
This was about Oliver. He worked at Foxy’s for 7 years. One day he received a booking from Zarah for 2 months. He turned it down because of their past. His boss called him to find out why. He told her but she still asked him to at least do the initial meeting. He agreed. Zarah and Oliver were friends growing up. She started pulling away from him when she started dating Ryan. She never stood up for him against Ryan making fun of him. 10 years later is when they reconnected. She needed him as a buffer for her cousins wedding. She was the wedding planner and her cousins fiancé was friends with Ryan. Ryan wasn’t taking no for an answer and he tried to come between them. Her aunt was trying to get them apart as well. Oliver’s parents were involved. He didn’t have a relationship with them.
Gushing over this book because I relate to Oliver so, so much.
Oliver is an oldest child who has tasked himself as the protector and rock to the few people he allows close to his heart. Forever independent, reliable, disciplined and consistent. Fueled by the underscore of stress and anxiety.
Until Zahra steps back into his life in the most unexpected way. His need to solve the problems of the people he cares about may take him too far and it will take a long lost love to make him see he is not alone. That is, unless he loses her again.
If you love angst, spicy storylines, and watching two main characters find the right place to land, then buckle up and enjoy the rollercoaster that is Oliver.
Oliver works at Foxy's Rent-a-Date, and he is shocked when a long-term booking comes in from his high school crush, Zahra—the one who broke his heart. Now, he finds himself on a path of revenge.
Oliver is an interesting character; he is factual and rigid, refusing to truly commit or be vulnerable. Watching him grow and change throughout the story is amazing.
Zahra, on the other hand, starts off strong but shows signs of the abuse and manipulation she has endured, which leaves its mark. It's empowering to see her finally fight for herself—an epic transformation.
This story is beautifully written, filled with angst, betrayal, secrets, miscommunication, and ultimately, love and redemption. I also enjoyed the brief appearance of Tobias.
Oh how i cryed and yelled at this book! This truly got me Oliver, sexy nerd, what an awesome and hot man! He tryes to be controlled and not show emotions and yet he feels so much that my heart hurts! His parents did not get to be cald parents, i did not like them! He did everything to his brother and it was so sweet! Zahra had a awfull ex and i’m so happy that she got to be strong and did not let that man in her life again! I yelled a bit too much, at least my dog think so, she didn’t wanna be near me. Until i started to cry, it is a bit difficult to read when your dog is laying on top of you This had spice, a good spice if i say so myself! But this also had so much sadness, laughter, love, betrayal and i just, i am speechless
This book is part of the Foxy’s Rent-A-Date series. This series is a collaborative effort among some amazing authors. The first book “Tobias” was such a great story so I was really stoked to see this newest release in the series. I am loving this series so much and I have only read 2 of the many books yet to be released. I love books with second chances but this story is so much more than that. The history between Oliver and the FMC is so sweet, heartbreaking and complex. Their interactions are seriously #relationship goals! I never use hashtags in anything but I felt it necessary for this story. Thank you, Kyra Fox, for another hot companion for us to worship from Foxy! He was smart, hot and spicy! I cannot wait to see who’s waiting to be rented next!!
Oliver and Zahra were like asteroids which were fated to crash into one another. One event finally brings them together, with Zahra requesting for Oliver to act as her fake boyfriend.
As the story progresses, I am hooked and couldn’t wait to discover the secrets which they are both hiding. Together, they are both explosive and they are inevitable.
But the past remains a barrier to their future, and trust needs to be rebuilt slowly. While the journey was not an easy one, the eventual outcome was truly beautiful. I wondered though, why Zahra’s parents did not step up to protect her from her aunt.
Oliver delivers on his turn as the Rent-A-Date hottie for Book 2 in this shared world! This story and it's characters had me from start to finish. While the history and negative feelings between the characters helps build the tension and angst, the chemistry is undeniable and ever so steamy! The writing from Kyra Fox is engaging and has you guessing as to who is involved in the underlying plot to sabotage the characters growing love and affection. Emotions run high and this book has it all, excellent writing, well developed storyline and amazing characters. Make a date with Oliver, he won't disappoint!
Oliver is popular at Rent a Date and the university which is good because he needs the money to support himself and his brother who have run away from their hometown and are hiding from their parents when a blast from the past re-enters his life with an opportunity to return home for a short time and he takes it. Being so close again after all these years and fake dating is hard to maintain the boundaries when it brings back so many memories.
Oliver and Zahra were such an interesting couple, I didn’t really get the conflict honestly, it seemed like they both treated everything like a much bigger deal than it needed to be. The manufactured drama was a bit annoying but the spice was good and the chemistry was interesting. The mystery was a bit overblown but was still a fun read.
I loved this story and I can't wait to dive deeper into the Foxy's Rent A Date Series!
Oliver was definitely something different. The dynamic between Oliver and Zahra, who share a complicated history, added an intriguing layer to their fake relationship. The tension between them was palpable, making it both entertaining and engaging to read.
The mix of past wounds and present needs creates a compelling narrative that kept me turning the pages. I highly recommend this book for anyone looking for a slow-burn romance filled with angst and redemption!
Oliver and Zahra have a history, and he’s not convinced he wants to be involved… This was a slow-burn enemies/friends to lovers with plenty of twists, turns, betrayals and manipulations. The second chance romance was limited by plenty of miscommunication, horrible family members and a manipulative ex. This was a slightly longer read than necessary, although I did enjoy experiencing the building of their relationship and seeing just how protective Oliver got, and when you start to understand what caused the rift years ago, your heart starts to break.
I was so excited to read this one and it didn't disappoint. This is the second novel from Foxy's Rent-A-Date shared world.
Following the story of Oliver and Zahra, I was intrigued to learn more of Oliver's back story and what really happened in Zahra's previous relationship.
I really connected with Oliver's character; especially him saying "I've broken too many pieces off myself to help others feel complete".
The way Kyra Fox wrote in the astrophysics was lovely...comical at times and romantic at others.
Looking forward to the next novel in this collection.
