Didn’t hate it. Didn’t love it. I don’t agree with some of her views on traditional gender roles. Some of her advice is insightful but I don’t think her strict rules can be applied to everyone.

The way this book is formatted takes a bit of getting used to, but if you go into it as a fan of the show, have some general knowledge of Jewish dating customs, or just want to learn/experience more, you’ll enjoy it. If you want to read a traditional dating/relationship advice book, this may not be the one for you.

Each chapter is set up with a cute title and as a sort of “Monday Morning Quarterback” recap of different clients of Aleeza’s, their dates, and how she advises them to do things differently. Each chapter also ends with a takeaway tip for readers. I enjoyed the takeaway tips the most. If Aleeza were to write another book, I would love it if each chapter expanded on the tips and gave more information vs. story times of past clients. Matchmaker Matchmaker would make a great gift for a fan of the Netflix show though!

Thank you to #NetGalley for a review copy of #MatchmakerMatchmaker. All feedback is my unbiased opinion, not paid, and simply for the love of books.

4/5 stars because I like the author (her spirit, gentlessness, kindness). The content of the book is not particularly riveting and seems geared towards a less traditional crowd. Her principes to help readers "find a love that lasts" are traditional, measured and simple. Every chapter is marked by a principle and she follows the story or stories of people who she has guided in using them. I am not particularly fond of this especially because I know the names are changes and situations edited to make the story flow, sometimes it seems that the people who come to her don't have as big of problems in the dating scene as one would think if they had come to her (so many spontaneous and in real life dating initiations). I would be eager to see her write another book in a different style, maybe a book about the history of orthodox dating or a book that is stories of orthodox couples. Either way I like her.

I mean, it's fine. The dialectic nature of the book, where all of the information is provided through imagined dialogue, makes it incredibly easy to read but also makes it incredibly basic. I was more interested in her insights after the imagined dialogue than the actual dialogue where the crux of the issue would be. She's also a bit harsh in her judgements and advice, but honestly I actually appreciated it. So many of these self-help/dating books are too vague and "but anything can happen!" in their narratives while this lady has strict rules and beliefs about what does and doesn't work and isn't afraid to share them. I really enjoyed her 5-5-5 rule too and might try stealing that idea, if I ever got around to dating.

Not bad, but also not great. Get it from the library if you can and it'll be a fine time.

A good book for people who are dating to find a partner, who have matches on online dating pages,
and who want to know how much physical attraction matters (less so if you have zero matches on apps and don't have a matchmaker, this book will not teach you how to approach people on the streets for dates lol).
what I enjoyed the most about the book is the many examples of Aleeza's clients, making it much more real and applicable as opposed to just theoretical.
I couldn't help myself and finished it in one day. Highly recommend it.

I really enjoyed this book. The chapters are divided into (1) people's stories (I imagine she edited them to maintain the confidentiality), (2) Aleeza's advice to the people, and (3) more general advice to the reader about the situation in the chapter. I really liked that format of the chapters. As for the content, I can say that I learned a lot from this book and I want to start dating with the tips given by Aleeza. I 100% recommend it to all the single people.

Long boring stories of her client's dates with details of the restaurants, weather, and view outside the restaurants, etc. extremely boring, long, and so many details that are not relevant to the book's title. I constantly said out loud "Get to the fucking point already!". I was never so frustrated reading, like when I was reading this garbage. Obviously I couldn't finish it, and returned it for a refund guilt free.

I’m obsessed with Jewish Matchmaking on Netflix, and loved Aleeza the matchmaker. I’ve been listening to some of her podcasts, and finally got around to reading this via audiobook. Lots of good, sound advice for navigating the less obvious parts of dating, although not all of it was brand information. Chapter 8 felt like a bit of a PR statement. But it was a fun little listen.

Must read even before you date

This book made me realize I was the problem. I think it helped me mature immensely. I am beyond grateful with Aleeza for this artwork.
