Despite her broken heart, Kit has finally gotten her life under control. She's got an exciting new job as Dayrunner to the Vampire Guild Leader. She has a new circle of friends, new teachers, and a boyfriend who can't get enough of her.
She's frustrated that every ward she makes falls apart when she's not looking, and she hasn't been able to keep her nosy friends from asking the wrong questions. However, she's sure that once she convinces the human-hating Guild that she's not really involved with the coup attempts against her boss, and once she figures out who keeps leaving death curses for her, and if she could just fall out of love with her ex-boyfriend, she'd have everything under control.

This is book three in the Kit Melbourne series and sees Kit carrying out more duties for her boss, the Vampire Guild leader. Doing all the tasks her and his fellow vampires cannot do during the day. Kit has come back somewhat changed after her journey to the Fae realm in the last book, as she tried to save the life of her boyfriend Lawson, who was caught up in a curse that had sapped him of almost all of his life energy. It took months for Kit to return, to find he had awoken, but forgotten all about them having any sort of relationship. Now he is in a serious relationship with another woman from their dojo, Hannah, who keeps him on a very short lease and doesn’t want him to have anything to do with Kit anymore, which is hard for Kit. She can’t throw off her love for him, or even her need to have him in her life as a friend, but she isn’t getting any chance to even remain friends with him.

She still has her unhealthy relationship with vampire Fain, but he is getting more demanding in wanting her blood, never mind her companionship and he starts to become ill, something that shouldn’t be possible in his vampire state. She is no longer just human, seemingly now part Fae and has to learn mage-craft as part of her duties for the Guild and its leader. Especially in protecting his home during the day when he is vulnerable and she has to place protections spells around the grounds. She is being trained by the outgoing Dayrunner, but he isn’t much better at mage-craft than her. It seems someone has been fiddling with the protection spells and she is told not to bother the Guild Council leader with her problems.

Her new flatmates think they have a ghost in the house, as she now has the uncontrollable power to telekinetically move objects, without even trying to. All it takes is her emotions getting the better of her. She has to try and avoid Fain’s attention, as he is getting more dangerous and practically attacking her instead of being in a relationship anymore. She is wary now of being out and about once the sun has gone down, especially after finding some curses laying on her doorstep, one which harms a good friend of hers, instead of Kit, who was the actual target. It seems someone is trying to kill her, but is it connected with her role as the guild leader’s Dayrunner, especially with the hatred for humans amongst the members of the Vampire Council. She is sent away for an action she unknowingly committed that was against the vampire laws. She is sent to gain knowledge of any vampires in the area and also to purchase a load of gemstones, to be used in spells.

She is up against the enemies of her boss, who keep trying to get her into trouble, rogue vampires and newly turned vampires, as well as a jealous girlfriend who dislikes her closeness to their boyfriend. Her life is yet again in danger and she is in a particularly ‘delicate’ state whilst all this is going on. Whether her boss will believe in her and ignore the rumours being bandied around about from certain vampires and vamp initiates, who don’t want her to be part of the Vampire Guild. If she is going to survive for much longer, she needs to uncover who is attempting to curse her and put a stop to it. This is another fantastic read in this series and certainly sees Kit facing a lot more danger and more magic than she can handle on her own. I hope there are going to be a good few more books to this series, as I can’t wait to read the next one. I would definitely recommend this unusual series to anyone who likes to read paranormal tales with vampires, shifters, Fae, mages and much, much more. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

The third book in the Kit Melbourne series is just as fantastic as the first two. Some time has passed between the second and third book, and Kit is now a Dayrunner for the leader of The Guild, a vampire run group. Now dating Fain, the sexy vampire who helped her in Dryad’s Blade, Kit still loves and longs for Fenwick, her ex. Unfortunately, because of the sacrifices Kit made to save his life, Fenwick has no recollection of their love. Sigh.

After several attempts on her life are made, Kit knows her life is in danger again, and she struggles to protect herself and her boss while dealing with the grief of her lost love and the ever-growing hunger of her vampire lover.

One aspect of the book that I really liked was the overarching prophecy. At the start of book one, Kit’s brother reads her tea leaves and makes several predictions about her life, including an attempt on it. Though those predictions seemingly came true in the first book, one could argue that one prophecy came true in each book, with the final prophecy (about the attempt on her life) coming to fruition in Vampire’s Dayrunner. The depth of development and the utilization of overarching themes and events contribute to the skillful complexity of the story-line.

In addition to a well-developed story-line, the characters continue to grow as well. Kit continues to show her selflessness and determination, but in this book, she also seemed a bit more mature. She is more self-aware, she is taking better care of herself, she has a stable, if dangerous, job, and she has chosen (some) better friends. I like Kit’s character arch and her realistic and flawed character.

I also want to mention the love story, which is a large part of all three stories in the series. Kit and Fenwick are soul mates if only he would remember it. It was heart-breaking to read of Kit’s loss and to see Fenwick moving on. However, as the story progressed, it was clear that their story wasn’t finished. I very much enjoyed watching their story unfold and look forward to seeing more of them in future books.

This is a fabulous urban fantasy series with a strong and likable protagonist (minus her penchant for dog biscuits – so gross!), a great love story, and an epic, action-packed plot. I can’t wait to read the fourth book in the Kit Melbourne series so I can find out what Kit, Fenwick, and her other friends get mixed up in next!

Thanks again to Kater Cheek for a copy of the book in exchange for my honest review.

So, book three in the series and what a series, absolutely fantastic. Kit certainly gets into come scrapes that’s for sure. I am still amazed how this author manages to come up with such fantastic storylines. Long may they continue. Highly recommended.

I love the Kit Melbourne stories. She's a great character. Probably the best series to compare them with is the Sookie Stackhouse mysteries, and I like these better. The characters, even the minor ones, are more developed, the plots are denser and the atmosphere feels more "realistic". I put that in quotes because excursions to the Realm of the Faerie don't fall into one's usual definition of realism, but those excursions feel plenty real when you read them. The Realm has a unique and interesting social organization, and you get to know it intimately.
In this one Kit is Dayrunner to Grant Holzhausen, the Vampire Guild Leader, and the relationship between this is complicated. You know he likes her, and you know he'd kill her in a minute if the situation required. Being a Dayrunner pays well, but it's not an easy job.

For full disclosure, I know the author, but can honestly say I enjoyed this book.

This is the third in the Kit Melbourne series and each book is better than the last. Kit has had some setbacks but is getting her life on track and doing well. Or at least mostly well. There are still some challenges or there wouldn't be a story. These books are wonderful, imaginative reads. Very enjoyable.

ONE WICKED ROLLERCOASTER!!!
Blindsiding bandit! Kater struggles trying to stay one step ahead and winding up two backwards, bringing out the heavy artillery locked and loaded, wrapping this baby up sleek, shiny and tight. Pushing boundaries and crossing lines, exposing the strengths and weaknesses being weighed and balanced, booting this gem into the eye of the storm, breaking it down, knocking it into overdrive, catapulting it into a hissy with a life-altering culmination. Shenanigans, chaos and mayhem rule the roost displaying the drama, anxiety, intrigue, animosity, danger, mounting suspense and intense situations along with a boatload of underlying threats, you have one jaw dropping adventure. Bearing the burdens and defeating foes presenting this action packed, hard hitting, pulse racing, heart pounding, adrenaline pumping, page flipping, block busting page flipping bombshell, blasting this baby to life beautifully. The characters are complex and genuine with traits and qualities that add depth and realism, blend and flow transforming into relatable personalities. The scenes are strikingly sharp with abundant details and descriptions that feel as though you were transported to ground zero with them. Remarkable job Kater, thanks for sharing this lil' fella with us.

In the third book of “Kit Melbourne” Series “Vampire’s Dayrunner”, we found Kit torn out between her new relationship with a vampire… yes that vampire for those of you who follows the series in chronological order, the newbies will just have to found out 😉 and her ex.

Kit Melbourne is one of the most likeable main characters in the genre and has evolved enormously in the course of this series. In this third installment Kit has fully come into her powers, familiar inclusive. Torn between stopping a killer on the loose threaten the lives of her loved ones, trying to impress the new BF “family” and fending off her boyfriend drinking issues, Kit really has her hands full, thus as her ex reappears with a vengeance, she is just about to cross the line with unfathomable consequences.

As always Kater Cheek storytelling is impeccable, fluid, flesh and endearing, blending action and description elements into a fast-paced action-packed tale that combines different side lines into a thoroughly satisfying main plot. With wonderful characters, a great urban fantasy verse and credible plots, this series is quickly becoming one of the top 10 best urban fantasy series of the moment.

Kit Melbourne finds that someone is trying to kill her when she is constantly being attacked and traps laid for her. She is also having problems with her new vampire boyfriend, Fain, who wants her blood to the point he almost kills her! What is wrong with this guy? She also still loves Fenwick, but he is unable to remember they were in love and she needs to move on. But when others she cares about are put in danger, she needs to go on the offensive! Who is this unknown foe coming after her and why?

Each book in this series is fabulous and this one is right on par too. You can't help but love the character of Kit who seems so vulnerable and human yet has powers and is a kick-ass dominant woman who knows what she wants. I love how the character questions herself, but we the reader are going or you are more perfect than you think. I think that Kit alone runs strong along with all the storylines of why these books are just terrific. Most books you read, enjoy, and forget, but these books stay indelibly on your memory and make you come back for more.

I received a copy of this book for a fair and honest review. There is so much going on in this book. Someone is trying to kill Kit and leaving traps for her. Her ex is engaged and does not remember they were in love. She has a new boyfriend who is a vampire and is obsessed with her blood to the point that he almost kills her. WHOA!!! Her job as dayrunner puts her in a line of fire for a lot of people. This is just making everything even more intense for all those involved. There are always new secrets to be learned and discovered. That is what keeps me coming back for each new book.

Will her new powers save her? Kit’s new job as the vampire dayrunner exposes her to a lot of people, good and bad. Someone is trying to kill her. And she has to be around Fenwick and his jealous fiancée and she is heartbroken. Fain is becoming possessed with wanting her blood and almost kills her. What is going on? And everyone keeps saying she is fae but she is human, isn’t she? I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review

Kit can't seem to keep out of trouble. She is now a dayrunner for the Guild leader and that leads to all kinds of troubles. Then there is Fenwick just out of reach. This is a fast paced story with all the drama, action, and a side of some romance to round it out. I have enjoyed all of the books so far in the series and cannot wait to see what comes next.

I wrote this book back in 2003. Like the first two, it has gone through substantial rewrites since then. (Substantial meaning "Completely new plot and characters") What didn't change was the mystery involved (who is trying to kill Kit's boss?) and Kit's heartache of trying to convince herself she wasn't in love with her ex.

Is it dorky that there are scenes in this book which made me cry EVERY SINGLE TIME even on the umpteenth revision? In retrospect, it makes sense that her heartache felt so natural and real. (There were things going on that I didn't know about until later). I hope it resonates with you too. Who hasn't had heartache in their life?

I think you'll also identify with the weird fish-out-of-water feeling Kit has at her new job. Most readers haven't worked for a vampire, but a lot of people know what it's like to walk into an office where the battle lines were drawn years before you got there.

I don't hope that you identify with the "dodging assassination attempts" part of it. No one needs that in their life (except through books.)

This is the third book in the Kit Melbourne series, and it's the last one that's written in the first person from entirely Kit's viewpoint. In a way, it's the end of the trilogy beginning with Witch's Jewel (originally SEEING THINGS) and Dryad's Blade (originally TREEMAKER), in that there's a loose plot arc begun in the first book which ends in this one. Happy endings all around. Well, happy except for the people who die, but they have it coming.

While this is the third book, I feel that people can pick up any of the books in this series and have a worthwhile read, as each book has a solid plot that begins on page one and ends at the end. (Don't you hate series with cliffhangers? I do!)

I recommend this book for people who like adventure, for people who like mystery, for people who like action, for people who like romance, and for people who like fantasy.
