Murder in Gray and White

Rate this book
An unpleasant newcomer to Camden-sur-Mer resort checks out sooner than she intended...

It was the considered view of the elderly residents at the posh retirement community on the California coast that the death by stabbing of Mrs Amy Kinseth (only six weeks after her arrival) occasioned no great loss. There’d be no more of her tasteless display of jewellery, no more overtures of friendship suddenly withdrawn, no more doors slammed in other people’s faces.

For Angela and Caledonia, live-wire veterans of an earlier murder investigation at Camden, the case offers a glorious opportunity to have some fun as they help their handsome detective friend, Lieutenant Martinez, with a bit of on-site snooping. It’s soon clear that awful Amy had indeed been up to something fishy. And with the killer still on the scene, intrepid Angela may be the next victim...

You know what, I was pleasantly surprised with this book. It was definitely not as ‘raunchy’ as I usually read, but it was a warm and comforting read.

I really liked the characters of Cal and Angela by the end and whilst I thought some of the writing was a little bit cringe, it was wholesome and cute.

The ending was also unexpected for me, and whilst not a proper plot twist, a definite surprise.

I then flipped to see when this book was originally published - 1980! No wonder it read the way it did. That just made the book cooler in my eyes and I’m glad to have had a little snapshot of the writing from back then.

Although the story was quite good it was so American that I really didn't get a lot of the references and humour which spoilt it for me.

not wha ti expected at all but I loved it. fast paced, full of murder and loads of things which were completely unexpected!! if you like murder mysteries where all the old folks are the prime suspects, two of whom turn into amateur detectives who climb over locked gates and go rogue with a crazy drunk as a friend then this is for you!! funny, witty, and just totally great!!!

I don't think I've ever disliked a book as much. I really wanted to like it but I just found it so dull and silly. So many plot holes and forced myself to read it. So close to being a DNF I skipped the last few chapters and went to the end.

I'm sure this is the book for many people. but it's just not a book for me. I couldn't finish it. I just couldn't get on with the characters or the storyline. Very similar to athursday murder club, which is another book I failed to read
