Tales of the Carpathian Vampire

How did vampirism originate? What connection does vampirism have with the Garden of Eden and Greek mythology? What is the difference between immortality in the real world and immortality in the divine world? All these questions are answered in this collection of short stories.


The idea for these rather short, short stories came to me while writing the novel, Carpathian Vampire, which is set primarily in Sinaia, Romania. It will be published at a later date. I wrote them to flesh out my characters by dramatizing events in their lives that define who they are. Most of the characters in each are from that novel, but here I've adopted entirely different points of view and set them in different times and in different countries.

About the author

My name is Lumi (Luminita) Laura. I’m the author of the soon to be published book Carpathian Vampire and the associated collection of short stories titled Tales of the Carpathian Vampire. I was born somewhere in Romania, probably Victoria but possibly Fagaras. I have no record of birth, and my parents never seemed concerned about it. I attended public schools until I was to enter high school, but when I didn’t pass the entrance test, they were going to ship me off to a craft school for a couple of years, so I bolted. That was four years ago when I was fifteen. Now I’m on the run and have been since then. Lately, I’ve been staying with a gypsy or Roma family, as we call them. Although we don’t claim to be, I sometimes wonder if I’m not at least part Roma. I look Arabic, or at least so I’m told, but I’m not that either.Being a fugitive is nothing new to my family. My father killed a man, and we were on the run for two years before they caught up with him. Now he’s in Codlea Prison for life. Sometimes I believe my life is more interesting than my character’s, but then she’s a vampire, so how cool is that? I’m not sure anyone is actually after me. My mother has moved since I was last with her. Not sure where she lives now.
I’ve been reading and writing in English since I was five. I’m a good storyteller. It’s what I do to pass the time. The Roma family picked up a laptop computer for me. I didn’t ask where they got it, and they didn’t say. That was a couple of years ago, and I’ve not put it down since. Don’t always have an internet connection, and when I do it’s usually slow. On the message boards they always get it wrong: “Luni bin Laura” is what they call me. Not very fond of that.
