I purchased this novel after watching the author on a podcast episode and I was coincidentally being forced to coexist with a narcissist in my work environment. It gets really tricky when you are not 100% capable of leaving/removing yourself from the situation and this was the first author I have seen tackle narcissism from the perspective of the survivor and not just showing fascination for the narcissist and why they are the way they are. But by showing real healing tactics for those who chose and are able to leave and those who have no choice but to stay like with a parent or a sibling.
I highlighted so many passages in this book that my highlighter went dry. I love the way this author/doctor speaks about this subject, some parts were slightly repetitive but I think narcissistic abuse survivors need the repetition.
As of this month I have been able to remove myself from the orbit of this raging narcissist and I finally decided to finish the final half of the novel that tackles how the healing journey looks like once you finally leave the environment this person created who gave you real life heart palpitations, health related issues from stress and just an overall toxic experience. And we forget how many people go through similar things. Part of the healing journey here is to “speak up in case someone else is going through the same things” because experiencing trauma alone can be very isolating and that’s exactly what I tend to do with my Substack post tomorrow.
Awesome read
