"I wish I could say the worst it behind us . . . but the data tells us our troubles are just beginning." - Cyborg

"Sooooo, we lost track of a three-hundred foot-tall gorilla AND the 'League of Assassins'?" - Nightwing

My immediate thought on finishing the succinctly-titled Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong is simply that this is 'a Saturday' straight out of the 1970's. You know, that era where a kid would watch the animated SuperFriends on ABC over breakfast cereal (Cheerios, thanks), catch a monster movie rerun on a UHF channel in the mid-afternoon (after baseball or soccer practice), and then maybe go to see that latest disaster flick (with a score courtesy of John Williams, natch) in the evening at the local theater. So this graphic novel was both pleasantly fun AND sort of a nostalgic trip. Promising exactly what is spelled out in that big appellation, Earth's finest collection of DC superheroes and -heroines take on the sudden appearances of Godzilla and King Kong, plus a few other gigantic monsters, that will invariably trample cities and cause the citizens to cry out in terror while pointing skyward. Give me the cameo appearances (I believe that's the creature from the underrated film Cloverfield during the requisite opening scene at Skull Island), the nick-of-time arrivals (Black Canary screeching in on her motorcycle! The Green Lantern Corps of Sector 2814 swooping in to assist a weary colleague! And of course the 'Trinity' of Superman / Batman / Wonder Woman doing what they do best!), or the various scenes of Justice League AND Legion of Doom members cracking wise / riffing with each other over long-held personality issues. Occasionally a reader needs a swiftly moving book that offers full-color action and suspense for mere entertainment value, and this one delivered the goods.

A lot of fun, as far as crossovers go. Giant kaijus show up in the DC Universe and the League--along with a handful of others, show up to help stop them and bring them home.

The story was pretty good, but with so many characters showing up, we don't really spend a lot of time with any of them long enough to carry any emotional weight, with the exception of maybe Superman and Lois.

It really does rely on you having prior knowledge of the "Monsterverse" and a few members of the League before diving in, so that's something to keep in mind before reading. Even without the knowledge, I suppose it could still be enjoyable with the fight scenes, but again, a lot of characters show up, so that may be confusing for some.

As for the art? It was honestly pretty hit-or-miss for me. The characters up close and all the kaijus looked great! But from a distance (I mean this literally, when they are drawn), everything looks mediocre at best. I suppose they can't all be Dave Gibbons at what they do...

Nonetheless, a good read! Looking forward to part 2.

Sit back, turn your brain off, and grab a cuppa. Best experienced when you expect nothing except action, there's no story to sink your teeth into, and it is up to the monsters to try their best to draw attention away from narrative flaws. And they do that surprisingly well. Silly comic shenanigans that flaunts spectacle like a badge of honour, it is a quick read that requires little effort to enjoy.

With a concept like that, i expected this to be a bit more fun. It still is entertaining enough, but it misses... something.
I would like a bit less explanation and more ka-pow and boom. The writer tried and succeeded to give a reasonable plot without everything looking so silly. Sometimes though, silliness is exactly what is needed.
I can see other people liking it more than i did, because there isn't anything wrong with it.

Justice League vs. Godzilla vs. Kong is pure, over-the-top comic book mayhem—and I loved every page of it. The premise is as wild as it sounds: massive kaiju crash headfirst into the DC Universe, and the result is nonstop spectacle. It’s not trying to be deep or philosophical—it’s here to entertain, and it delivers big.

The pacing is quick, the action is huge, and the creative team does a great job balancing the chaos with just enough character moments to keep it grounded. Watching heroes like Superman, Batman, and Wonder Woman scramble to face off against Godzilla and Kong is as fun as it sounds, and the visuals absolutely sell it.

This is popcorn comics at its finest—explosive, ridiculous, and a total thrill ride from start to finish. Perfect for fans of big, loud, cinematic storytelling.

It's interesting to see how the Justice League would deal with a Kaiju invasion. Towards the end, it is a silly slugfest, but overall this is an interesting read.

I loved this book. Great artwork, story, and lots of action. Yes, the book is more from the DC Universe's point of view, which I'd fine for me, but doing it thus way I think helps with the monsters mystique.

The Leagon of Doom once again making plans to destroy the Justice League. However, are they unleashing doom on their own universe with the monsters from the monsterverse, or is it an opportunity for them.

The DC characters are done spot on the monsters are big bad and unstoppable. DC will need all their biggest guns, but what happens when the monsters strike first blood? This is an awesome action-packed story. I would love to see more of these crossover. The book finishes with an awesome full-page varient cover gallery.

This took off pretty well, then got a bit stale after #3. For me the first 2 issues were the best, where justice league facing the mosters was a thing. Superman and Shazam goes toe to toe with Godzilla, on the other hand, the bat family taking down the camaztoz, yeah, those were somthing I was here to see. But from the 3rd issue, it became more like the same old legion of villains bullshit.

Hope they can bring it back to what it's meant to see a monsterverse vs JL faceoff. Mechagodzilla is yet to join the party!

I didn’t expect much more than some cool art in this story, but while the art was very cool, the story was actually entertaining also! I think if you don’t take this book too seriously and you just go in expecting to read a fun book that pits superheroes and monsters against each other, you’ll have a darn good time with this book! I especially enjoyed some surprising emotional character moments within these seven issues.

My son enjoyed all the Universal 'Monsterverse' movies this year, and I thought he would think this was awesome.

He did not. He thought it was "dumb".

I think it's awesome. For the first two issues at least.

You might wonder, how is this IP mashup explained? Wouldn't the Justice League have noticed at some point if Godzilla and co. existed in their world? How it happens is that apparently there's a gem in Superman's Fortress of Solitude that lets the holder make wishes come true, because clearly whatever DC rebooted universe is used in this case is a serious affair. Why keep that gem? Why not toss it into the sun's core? Why not wish away all nuclear weapons a la Superman IV? In any case, the Legion of Super Villains gets ahold of the thing and one of them wishes Godzilla and related monsters would attack the Justice League.

In Transformers vs. G.I. Joe, Vol. 1 it was simply revealed that they existed in the same reality all along, which worked because the Transformers' existence was on the downlow in those 1980s Marvel comics, and it worked because mass media was not what it is today and also they were all in, like, New Mexico, and no one cares what happens there or would believe anyone from New Mexico saying there were giant sentient robots that transformed into known vehicles fighting each anyway. But sure, for any mashup, why not just have someone wish it.

All the reviews have it right: the series is baller for all of two single issues, then the storytelling increasingly falls apart. Why is it apparently so difficult to tell a coherent story with reasonable visual flow? Have comic creators never seen a half-decent movie?

The best part of the limited series is that Guy Gardner dies. I would mark this as a spoiler, but why should I hide this nugget of joy? Who is upset by this? I can only pray that this remains absolute canon and no one ever has to see his stupid fucking haircut ever again.

Non-canon story that seeks to cash in on the popularity of Godzilla and Kong's current time in the spotlight. Pretty good overall, lots of action and kaiju. Superman gets taken out by Godzilla's ray, Lex Luthor is responsible for recreating Mechagodzilla, and Kong briefly becomes a Green Lantern.
Overall kind of silly, but fast paced enough that it was entertaining.
If the title intrigues you at all, pick it up.
Recommend.

How could I resist this title?! Plus, I’m a sucker for big event books that incorporate teams, and this story certainly used all of its Justice League members. As this is a DC and MonsterVerse collaboration, there is a lack of continuity and timelines with other comics- so just sit back and enjoy this mashup of franchises!

Under the guidance of Lex Luthor, the Legion of Doom villains have infiltrated Superman’s Fortress of Solitude and they accidentally get sent to another dimension in which King Kong and Godzilla reside. Toyman swipes the Dreamstone and wishes the two universes together. The emergence of Godzilla interrupts Superman proposing to Lois Lane and the adventure is on!

The Justice League soon discovers these mega creatures aren’t easily defeated, plus additional monsters such as Mechagodzilla, Tiamat, and Scylla have also appeared, throwing off the balance of power. Godzilla not understanding what has happened takes out Superman for awhile, while the heroes regroup and try to divide and conquer. We get some interesting groupings of heroes- the Bat Family (with Tim Drake still as Robin), five members of the Green Lantern Corps, Shazam, Aquaman & Mera (together as they should be) and other minor heroes who show up to help. There is banter galore as the teams work together, with some strong character development despite some heroes just having a few moments on the pages.

A final plan is formulated, and a hero dies but that enables Kong to obtain more powers when he briefly has access to a Green Lantern ring. The explanation of where Toyman and the Dreamstone are is resolved in a surprising moment (really?!) and the titans are sent back to their own universe. Now all is well in the DC universe, and Clark and Lois begin to plan their wedding.

Written by Brian Buccellato, he crafted a strong story of how these two universes collided and gave many of the heroes poignant moments. The art is excellent, with a majority of it done by Christian Duce with additional work by Tom Derenick. The monsters are drawn to perfection, and the fighting scenes are kinetic and composed well. Dan Mora contributed the collected cover art and the back cover gallery included wonderful art by other artists.

This was yet another DC book that I have enjoyed this year, with a top-notch creative team. While I have always considered myself more of a Marvel fan than DC, this year is proving me wrong.

This is a very generous 3. This isn't great writing, the plot is dumb, and the characters seem out of wack half of it.

But the first half is actually really fun and some exciting moments to be had. The second half struggles to maintain the fun and has way to much convoluted villains just doing stupid ass shit.

A 2.5 out of 5.

3.5 rounded up to 4⭐️

Justice League vs Godzilla vs Kong collects issues 1-7 of the DC Comics x Legendary Comics series written by Brian Buccellato, art by Christian Duce, and colors by Luis Guerrero.

When the Legion of Doom breaks into Superman’s Fortress of Solitude and steal a powerful artifact, they accidentally unleash the MonsterVerse kaijus into an alternate DC Universe. It’s now up to the Justice League to help save the world.

A little messy but this was a very fun comic crossover. While reading it, I couldn’t help but think how epic this could have been if helmed by Tom Taylor. Some of my favorite moments were Batman helming a BatMech to go up against the Lex Luthor controlled MechaGodzilla and King Kong gaining control of a powerful DC Weapon. I would have liked seeing the DC Universe teaming up more with Godzilla and Kong. The art is pretty good throughout and features plenty of action.

There was a lot going on here, but it was all fun. I'm assuming this isn't canon, however, because a few characters didn't survive the carnage. Really cool to see the DCU interact with the Monsterverse. There's really too many moments to go into here, but this had just as much mayhem as you'd expect.

i haven't read a lot of comics so I don't really have any context for what constitutes "good" writing in a comic, but the story, pacing, and dialogue here all read like a last minute high school assignment that the author bribed their very talented artist friend into illustrating for. the pacing in particular often feels like there are panels that are just missing or have been cut, as plot hurdles always seem to be overcome too quickly and conveniently, which gives it that rushed/amateurish feel and detracts a lot from the parts that would be good if they had more room to breathe, like superman's interactions with Godzilla and the ending.

but the big monster battle at the end almost saves it. and beast boy turning into another kong is cool. there's like a million different character appearances too which is also cool, and the artwork is consistently really good - especially the colouring. if I had been buying these issues individually I would have stopped after the 2nd one probably

Two and a half stars ⭐️⭐️✨. The dialogues in this were… a choice. But at the end of the day it was a silly but fun story with iconic characters.

This was one of the better crossover books I've read. First, the art was awesome. But as far as the story goes, it's your standard plot in terms of how they bring the monsters into the DC universe. But they really found a way to give us a lot of characters I wasn't expecting a fair amount of action. The final show down was pretty epic as well and batman mech was awesome. Sorry Guy Gardner, But Kong is the green lantern we need right now.

My only complaint is that there is maybe a few to many subplots for a crossover event, and it seems to drag it out for maybe one issue to long. But its worth it for all the awesome art and batte sequences. I did expect more superman v Godzilla, but he gets sidelined for most of the story. But, that's what happens when you create a God tier Character who could solve all your problems in a single page lol.

Over all, really liked this one. One of the best crossover events in a long while.

Absolutely ridiculous but it actually kind of works most of the time…

Justice League Vs. Godzilla Vs. Kong by Brian Buccellato is an epic crossover between DC’s greatest heroes and the BIGGEST heroes of the Monster-verse.

The machinations of the Legion of Doom cause a dimensional shift with a combination of the Mother Box and Doctor Destiny’s Dreamstone bringing large fearsome Kaiju to attack Earth!!! Oh and it also transports Skull Island to DC Earth…

There are a number of weird encounters that are interesting and make sense. As with any monster team up they have to fight first…and this is linked to Godzilla viewing Superman as an alien threat. He’s a match because of his radioactive breath being about as powerful and dangerous as either kryptonite or full on red sun energy (sort of a combination).

Meanwhile other Kaiju wreck havoc (a mixture of ones from the films and at least one new face). Oddly, no Rodan, Mothra, or Ghidorah…but I suspect there’s room for that if they ever decide to do a sequel.

Anyway, you have a bunch of heroes and villains getting involved…even some giant robots. I feel they could have done more with the size changing heroes and villains…and they limit the carnage with only a single hero dying in the story (more as an insulting after thought which I was not fine with).

Oh but gotta respect Grodd for giving allegiance to Kong…even if it is just a part of his evil gorilla plans.

Worth checking out though I felt Godzilla and Kong didn’t get nearly as much screen time as they should have (sharing quite a bit with other Kaiju).

Yes, this is not going to go down in comics history as one of the great ElseWorlds stories, but it is a lot of fun for what it is offering. I personally can't keep up with all the reboots and ret-cons so I prefer these type of stories. If you know the basics these kind of stories are great for a Saturday afternoon reading by the beach or the fire.

Sounds like a dumb book; is a pretty dumb book. But credit to the author, the reason why all the Monsterverse creatures are showing up in our world is laid out pretty competently. Of course, then things devolve into a series of escalating battles. One on ones lead to a royal rumble at the end.

Hey, it looks great, reads fast, uses very few brain cells. Meets the low bar, for sure.
