Pray Naturally is a uniquely lovely devotional that not only helps us sit with the authentically flawed women of the Bible and learn from them, but guides us in honest prayer surrounding the struggles we share with these women. Rachel helps readers realize we’re not so very different than the women who inhabit the pages of scripture—God meets us as he did them and most often he does it in our conversations (and silence!) with him. A beautiful devotional!
I’m a big fan of devotionals published by Our Daily Bread and Pray Naturally: Finding Your Spiritual Confidence as a Woman Loved by God by Rachel Britton is awesome! In 120 devotion entries, Pray Naturally explores women from the Old Testament of the Bible, diving deep into their stories and pointing us to truths that can be applied to our lives today. Exploring the lives of such women as Sarah, Hagar, and Queen Esther, to name a few, the Reader learns the cultural significance of the Woman’s story, and how talking to God impacted and changed them. Each devotion entry includes questions to answer/writing prompts to help to reflect on what was just read.
I really loved Pray Naturally: Finding Your Spiritual Confidence as a Woman Loved by God by Rachel Britton and gleaned much from the book. I used Pray Naturally as part of my personal Devotion Time and it really Ministered to me, highlighting and making notes along the way. I love the nuggets of Wisdom that Ms. Britton brought out in the book. The nuggets of Godly Wisdom that Ms. Britton brought out on Prayer were full of common sense. At the same time, for some of the Women, some of the nuggets allowed me to see the Women in a new way and learn something new. (Like with Hagar, Abigail, and Queen Esther.) The theme of Prayer was constant through out the book and the impact of our conversations with God were woven through out. I found the questions at the end of each devotion entry beneficial, making the reader to think about what they had just read and about their heart’s motives regarding what they had just read. I love the Bible verses that complimented each devotion entry and I found them encouraging. I also love that some of the devotion entries gave you a (type of) list of Bible verses to correspond with certain topics/subjects. If you are looking for a devotional that is encouraging and geared towards women, then I highly recommend Pray Naturally: Finding Your Spiritual Confidence as a Woman Loved by God by Rachel Britton!

I would like to thank Karen from Book Lovers & Launchers (as well as the Publisher and NetGalley) for giving me a copy of Pray Naturally: Finding Your Spiritual Confidence as a Woman Loved by God to review, for letting me be on Rachel Britton’s Launch Team, and for providing me with the information needed for this post. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My review is also on Amazon and my blog, Leslie's Library Escape.
I usually don’t prefer work books with questions when what I’m looking for is answers! However, the reflective questions at the end of each devotional in Rachel Britton’s “Pray Naturally,” helped me realize what God was telling me personally. Many days that motivated me to research something more fully. It was like God had something specific for me to hear. I love studying the Word, but I also desire to encourage others through prayer, so my motivation in buying this book was to be more of a prayer warrior or at least better able to pray with people. This devotional is depositing in me more confidence in how God sees and can use me for that purpose.
Showcasing real-life struggles of fifteen key women of the Bible, Rachel Britton's book, Pray Naturally: Finding Your Spiritual Confidence as a Woman Loved by God, will help you find unfussy ways to share your heart and mind with God as these women did. Each brief chapter begins with one verse of the Bible and focuses on one moment in that biblical woman's life.
As you read, you will gain insight into their stories you may not have known before, learn Bible definitions that bring clarity to certain passages, and realize that many of these women were no different than us. They had fears; they had doubts; they had problems they couldn't solve themselves, but God was with them and heard them, and He hears us too.
But sometimes we find it hard to know what to say. Pray Naturally helps you with short prayer prompts that get you started in each of her 120-day prayer devotions for women.
If you haven't used prompts before, don't feel boxed in by them. They're there if you need them, giving you a nudge if you're not sure where to start. Personally, I don't need the prompts, but I appreciate reading what the author wrote, and these starter sentences quite often help me consider ways of expression I may not have thought of before.
Thank you, rachel britton, for addressing the honest needs of women who want to delve into prayer more in their lives but are unsure how or may have felt shy or unworthy to speak to their heavenly Father who loves them.
Rachel Britton has set for herself the task of making prayer a natural part of the believing woman’s life. Dipping directly into scripture’s story arc, she highlights key characters and examines their prayer life through their journey of faith.
I especially appreciated Britton’s repeated use of the phrase “practicing prayer,” because I definitely need to view prayer as a daily discipline that requires practice. Her work normalizes the truth that when it comes to prayer, we are always amateurs and we never “arrive.”
Britton’s definition of prayer is rightly focused on relationship: “God wants you to talk with him and trust in him.” God’s listening ear comes to us as a joyful surprise. He is a trustworthy recipient of our words, and Pray Naturally provides evidence for this from the sacred text.
Each devotional and prayer in the book adds to the reader’s support structure of trust and the magnetic pull of desire. Each story confirms the reader’s hope that God wants to be actively involved in her life. If Eve’s disobedience, Sarah’s impatience, Miriam’s audacity, or Rahab’s resume didn’t hinder God’s active participation in their lives, there’s hope that I, too, can become more confident in my praying response to God’s persistent love.
Pray Naturally - Finding Your Spiritual Confidence as a Woman Loved by God written by Rachel Britton is an excellent devotional for women. This book looks closely at women in the Old Testament. Surely, they must have lacked confidence at times focusing on their failures instead of God’s provision but learning to overcome their short comings to stand strong and true. If they could then we can too. The women chosen for this devotional are well known in Christian study, yet the perspective is refreshing and original.
Each day is long enough to say what is needed to be focused on in our thoughts but not so long that it couldn’t be done before the start of a day. Then you could think on it, pray on it, and even share with someone as the day progresses. Bible verses were given, more listed for the reader to read on their own, and a devotional passage before the suggest prayer start. All of this works well together. I especially liked the response area with one course of action, praise, or worship to be done. This part gave a focus suggestion but left it open-ended for the reader to complete. Well-done from beginning to end with 120 daily devotionals in all.
I love the way this author has laid out this new devotional book and all the great insights inside. It is unique in that she focuses on all the different women of the Bible and explores their faith journey. From each one, the reader learns to practice prayer from a different perspective. With Eve, the focus is hope, Sarah’s is a journey of faith, Rehab's stories teach action, and I loved Ester’s story of purpose. I first read the digital version and made notes in the end sections where the author leads me to personalize it with prayer, deeper thought or insights into myself. I like that! I really like the author's insights into scripture and that I'm also challenged to apply the insights, thoughts and messages to me and to my life. I feel like that’s what a devotional should do and this author certainly accomplished that with her new book. I’ve also bought a hard copy because I prefer to read and mark up a “real” book as it impacts me. I recommend this book and would give it as a gift (if I didn’t want to part with my own copy 😊).
Pray Naturally is a treasure that uses God's Word as its foundation! Author Rachel Britton guides us through 120 devotional prayers by showcasing women from the Bible who struggled, endured, and conquered. Eve, Sarah, Naomi, and Esther are just a few of the women mentioned and they remind us to step out in faith, trust Him to help us along the way, and then work diligently to make our prayers happen! There is so much to ponder and savor, but I especially love the prayer prompts at the end of each selection. Blank spaces allow me to record my thoughts so that these prayers become MY prayers!
Pray Naturally is a wonderful resource that is perfect for personal use but it could also be used in a small women's group setting. Grab a copy so that your prayer life can flourish and deepen! What better way to begin a new year?
I received a complimentary digital copy but there were no expectations of a positive review. These are my thoughts.

Netgalley and Our Daily Bread Publishing sent me a copy of Pray Naturally to review:
Whether you're a new Christian or have been walking with Christ for years, Pray Naturally is right for you.
Developing a consistent prayer practice can be tough. Discover the vulnerable, heartfelt prayers of Hannah, Hagar, Miriam, and Esther in Pray Naturally. 120 guided prayers will jump-start your prayer life and help you talk with God in fresh, bold ways, no matter what.
This devotional, written by Rachel Britton, is wonderful! I love that each daily devotional about prayer is short enough to feel manageable for even the most overwhelmed of us, but deep enough to challenge and help the reader grow in her prayer life. Rachel’s writing style is compelling as she dives into the lives of several remarkable women of the Bible and teaches us about prayer through the lens of each woman’s story. Each day, there are prompts to help the reader discover the prayers within her heart. I can’t recommend this book enough and look forward to gifting it to others who want to become more confident in their ability to talk with the Lord.
Rachel Britton has written a beautiful devotional book that will help readers find assurance in their God-given identity. Each devotion relates to one of fifteen women of the Old Testament—with sound insights from the original language, as well as contextual teachings. The prayer that follows each devotion provides blanks so the reader can add her own unique additions. I enthusiastically recommend Pray Naturally, as it will help women find that their Creator God has lovingly designed them and desires that they approach Him in prayer . . . naturally.
At first I was confused by the title. This book looks like a devotional rather than a how-to book on prayer. But then I realized that each of the 120 devotions is a mini lesson on praying naturally. Each takes a nugget of scripture and offers practical questions that guide you to apply the concepts to your life and your prayers. You can read this book from cover to cover for 4 months of inspiration. Or select the sections that deal with whatever you are facing. Either way, you will be blessed.
If you are looking for a simple devotional guide that also pushes you to think deeply, then Pray Naturally is the book for you. These 120 days cover fourteen women from the Bible including Eve, Hagar, and Esther. Each woman starts with some background information and each day ends with two or three questions. Verses are quoted throughout and additional readings are suggested. This would not be a good fit for a Bible Study but would be great for a small group of women or a solo study.
This book is for women who may not know exactly where to start out in prayer. It leads them through Bible stories about women who endured difficult things but found confidence and strength in the Lord. I like how the book teaches women to pray through the scriptures, using them as a springboard for spiritual growth. It's a good book to remind you to pray whenever you read scriptures, and it gives you insight into familiar Bible stories if you are a seasoned believer.
This book is a gentle tool for guiding women into a more intentional, less intimidating prayer life. Prayer should be as natural as breathing, and Rachel Britton, using scripture and biblical examples, shows us how—walking with us. Even more, her wisdom through words reveals that we never journey alone; rather, Jesus is with us… always! He is our example. Yes—He is our guide as we grow in prayer.
I really enjoyed this devotional, so much so I would often read more than one a day! The author writes clearly and brings forth biblical truth that she also builds upon through out the book. I bought several copies to use as gifts. Great read for those just learning about their faith as well as those well seasoned. Highly recommend!
I thought I knew the Bible, but Rachel surprised me at times with historical tidbits and backstory context about the Biblical women she used as examples. This devotional spans 120 days with great Scripture content and plenty of space to journal your personal application. Makes a wonderful gift for family or friends. I highly recommend it!
This book filled with wisdom from women of the Old Testiment had grewat insights and provided a wonderful area for me to add in my own thoughts and prayers. I loved that I saw things in the characters I had not noticed before. I also enjoyed the way that the devotions really spoke to issues in my own life.
As someone who delights in prayer and mentors others, I found this book to be a valuable resource and I’m sending it to those that I walk life with, trusting that it will encourage and inspire a new level of prayer encounter in their lives as we walk the journey of faith together.
so i actually am dnfing this book. not because it’s not a good book, if youre older, married, kids, then maybe this book if for you but i am just trying to figure out starting my prayer and religious journey. so i recommend this book for someone older? maybe.
