Set out on a new kind of adventure filled with tiny—but mighty—woodland creatures. The animal folk on Bloomburrow must stand together to defend against the Calamity Beasts—massive elemental predators that threaten the land and its tiny denizens.
Valerie Valdes is co-editor of the award-winning Escape Pod science fiction podcast, as well as the author of the Chilling Effect trilogy and space fantasy novel Where Peace Is Lost. Her short fiction and poetry have appeared in Uncanny Magazine, Nightmare Magazine and several anthologies. She lives in an elaborate meme palace in Georgia with her husband, children and cats.
It's an alright book that takes place in the single sloppiest Magic setting to date. Bloomburrow is deeply underbaked, a fact that is made immediately clear in the Planeswalker's Guide to Bloomburrow. However, the novella by Valerie Valdes, which this is a review of, manages to avoid acknowledging how bad the plane is. I am deeply impressed at her ability to take such bad source material and, in ONLY FIVE CHAPTERS, make it engaging and entertaining. And it's 100% the characters. The cast of this book is extremely charming. And it's refreshing to see a plane post-MotM that doesn't just know about the multiverse now. Very soon I'll be reading Duskmourn. Exciting times.
Aunque hubiera deseado más capítulos para desarrollar profundamente este nuevo plano, es una buena historia de aventura fantástica de corte clásico con animalitos adorables. Va a ser un set buenísimo.
An excellent story for old and new fans alike. It feels like a D&D campaign, and it's great to recommend to friends because there is no background information needed to enjoy.
