The first time I saw Julie Parker, the gorgeous, brilliant, sharp tongued lawyer knocked the wind right out of me.
The second time I saw Julie Parker, our eyes met across a football field.
The third time I saw Julie Parker, we had a *moment* and I was certain she was meant to be mine.
The fourth time I saw Julie Parker, she was struggling.
On a mission to bring some joy to her life and to give her someone to confide in when it seems like she keeps so much buried deep, I convince her to come with me on my annual off-season road trip back to my hometown.
At a career crossroads of my own, I have some secrets I'm keeping too. I'm finally ready to open up to someone, and I want that someone to be her.
One quirky town, ridiculous rest stop, hotel room, and road trip snack at a time, I am determined to convince Julie that it's safe for her to lower her walls, and to let me be the person she leans on. To show her that we're so much better together.
The girl of my dreams. One car. Two weeks. And, hopefully, forever.
Samantha Brinn (Sam to everyone who knows her) is an author of sweet, spicy, and swoony contemporary romance novels. A Pittsburgh girl currently living in the suburbs of NYC, Sam stole her first romance novel off of her mom’s bookshelf at age thirteen and has read pretty much nothing but romance ever since. Her Kindle is basically an extension of her hand at this point.
A lawyer by day and author by night, Sam can most often be found in bed with her laptop and writing desk late into the night, having the time of her life writing words and weaving stories and grinning at her characters’ hijinks.
Aside from being a reader and a writer, Sam is a lover of French fries, Reese’s peanut butter cups, and diet Pepsi, and much like her debut FMC, she rarely makes her coffee the same way twice. A mom of two, Sam cosplays as an organized human, but at her core, she’s mostly chaos and prefers it that way, and is loving every second of this wild indie author ride.
When I’m With You was my first book by Samantha Brinn and I’d count this as a success. The story is romantic, packed with sweet details, brings some emotionally tough moments but balances them with acceptance and love, and is generally an easy read where you can sink into two adorable characters as they quickly fall in love with each other. The FMC is a perfectionist and the MMC is a golden retriever. I described it to friends as the epitome of a man written by a woman and it is definitely high on the sappy/cheesy/characters say and do the exact right thing in the moment scenes so if you prefer angst and high tension, this is not the read for you. It was lovely and had me smiling a lot, basking in the warm and fuzzies, while also getting teary-eyed in the harder hitting moments.
Julie (h) is a lawyer and Asher (H) is an NFL quarterback. They meet briefly at a gala and Asher’s instantly smitten, while Julie also feels some interest but puts him off. Asher does also notice some tics that Julie has that make him wonder if she has more boiling under the surface. Several months later, they have another brief moment when Julie’s at his game with friends and he again notices more lurking in the depths, just as she continues to notice him while dodging his interest. Then Asher’s at her office when Julie has a panic attack. He supports and talks her through it and uses a smidge of blackmail to either get her to share what’s going on with her closest circle or come on his end of season road trip home across the country. Julie hates letting anyone see her weak (though feels safe with Asher right away) so thus the fun road trip, forced proximity, quick fall into love premise is formed. They have some hard opening-up talks, get steamy steamy steamy, and rapidly form a rock solid foundation for their budding relationship.
Written in first person, dual POV. No ow/om drama and both are experienced (H says he hasn’t so much as looked at another woman since he set eyes on the h the first time and h was way too busy for relationships or hookups). Not a lot of info given on their pasts, just some vague mentions a couple of times.
I both liked and had a hard time accepting how fast their progression was with Julie being able to share her secrets with Asher when she wasn’t able to with her twin brother, loving parents, or friends who were as close as sisters. She hid her anxiety and perfectionist tension for YEARS from them, even though they seemed to pay attention to all the little details of each other. Asher was persistent and the best though so in that sense, it wasn’t outlandish that she would feel comfortable with him.
Asher constantly reassures her that she’s safe with him and pours love on her. He asks her best friend for her favorite snack list, runs their itinerary by another friend, pushes Julie’s boundaries while also being the most understanding person ever, and is just perfect. Also, he calls her Juliette when no one else does. Julie also does get a chance to reciprocate in this relationship. Asher’s got his own hidden faults that have come to a head at the same time. He has lingering pain related to a football injury and self-medicates to get through the season, but a hit in his last game amplifies that even more. The question of whether he'll play again and what it means if he can't is a rough one, in addition to finally having to face this large medical condition that he's kept secret. So she’s able to be dependable and supportive right back at him.
Steam-wise, there are several scenes and this is a premise where the h has never had an orgasm with someone else because her brain is too busy. She has had one by herself though and there is a “caught you pleasuring yourself” scene along with a mutual masturbation scene that both were definitely hot before they start getting more hands on with each other. Of course, she has no issues orgasming with him, but Asher’s just perfection and I didn’t even mind it. I did start skimming some of the spiciness later as the book went on because I do believe this was a little long for what it was.
Lots of side characters who are all wonderful and amazing to the main characters. The main couple from the first book are important to Julie and then there are setups for the other two of the friend group. Asher’s sisters were so fantastic (he literally has their names and the names of his nieces tattooed on his body) and both sets of parents are positive and lovely. Also, there’s cute texting between friends and family here and I always enjoy that inclusion.
So, as mentioned, I did feel like some of the secret keeping felt slightly out of context given the rest of the relationships with their individual circles of people. And how no one suspected was also strange, I get why it was important for the premise of the book to work, but Julie mentions how her mother and brother notice everything, yet they missed this enormous struggle she was having. As I said earlier, I did feel like it was a little too long and I lost some steam later in the book, which was kind of a bummer because that’s also when the emotions were reaching their crescendo so even though I felt them, I would find myself skimming a bit between those scenes.
There’s no third act breakup, just third act managing of their return home, being honest with everyone, and then Asher facing what his future holds as a football player. It’s all more love and sweetness. The epilogue is a few months down the road with a last dose of cuteness and I really did enjoy this book and this couple. There's also a mention in the epilogue of Julie seeing a therapist and even though it's a tiny blip within the adorable happening around her, I was so happy to see this! I don’t know how I feel about the second chance of the next book, but Asher was written so well, I will definitely give this author another try in the future hoping that she continues to write love interests on this level.
Content warning: on page depiction of a panic attack; on page use of prescription medication to manage pain secretly
You get all the fuzzy feelings while reading it. It’s a sports romance with unexpected turns. Endings that are not what some characters want but what is best for them.
Asher, is what one of his sisters told him in the book, a man written by a woman. He’s the best kind of book boyfriend. A golden retriever with a heart of gold.
Julie, is a sweet woman who keeps to herself and doesn’t reveal who she really is even to her closest family and friends. That causes her a lot of anxiety and eventually panic attacks. Asher sees her, the real her. And the way he walks her through her episodes and immediately spots when she might have a flare is “chef’s kiss”.
His forehead kisses. Making sure she’s always tended and cared for. Giving her all the love and orgasms and the confidence that she didn’t know she wanted or needed.
The sex scenes are steamy and beautiful and so HOT!
The found families and their respective families are just everything!
There is definitely character buildup and personality development. You see them grow and become a better version of themselves.
This is the author’s second written book and I think she did a marvellous job!
With this book I went back to my Bingo Card and ticked another box, Road Trip.
I read my first romance novel at the tender age of 43. I had realised I couldn’t claim to read anything till I had tried romance at least once. It was fun, light, spicy, and provided a nice diversion. Since then, I’ve read a lot of the “big names” in romance and enjoyed a good lot of them.
Along on my Goodreads feed comes “When I'm With You” with a mediocre cover by Samantha Brinn — a name that was completely unfamiliar to me. On a whim, I decided to make it my next read, since I was looking for a pleasant diversion. What I got was a novel that actually plays in a completely different league than pretty much any other romance I’ve read so far.
From page one to the very last one, I was captivated: Both Julie (30), a sharp-tongued, quick-witted, strong, fierce, meticulous lawyer, and Asher (31), a football quarterback (don’t worry, I don’t know what that means and still don’t care) have their respective issues — and they both hide a lot; from themselves, the world and each other. Then Asher accidentally discovers one of Julie’s secrets and reacts so spectacularly well that she joins him on a road trip to visit his family.
What follows is an empathic, sensitive journey to the very core of their issues. There are the usual ingredients of a rom-com: banter, hilarious ideas, small mishaps. Step by step, though, Julie and Asher get to know each other and, shockingly, they communicate like the adults they are. Together, they find brilliant solutions to overcome their reservations, fears and inhibitions.
»“I’m afraid you’ll walk away once you hear what I have to say.” “I won’t.” I’m starting to think there is nothing on earth that would make me walk away from this man. He could tell me he killed someone, and I would grab a shovel to help bury the body, law license be damned. “I swear I won’t. You’re safe with me too, you know. We can be safe with each other.” I feel the truth of those words more deeply than I have felt anything in my life. I want to be his safe place, because he is absolutely, undoubtedly mine.«
It was such a joy to read their well-written, sensitively depicted story, I became worried about my usual gripes: A third-act breakup (usually badly handled, for nonsensical reasons, or just plain unnecessary), communication breakdowns (yes, people can be bad at that but don’t make it a major plot device!), badly presented smut (intimacy is, obviously, an important aspect of adult life so handle it carefully) — in contemporary romance one usually encounters at least one of those.
None of that is here: There is some drama but in the context of the story, every single part of it makes sense. There’s no breakup but “organic growth” with each other, towards each other and independently of each other. It was glorious to read this till the last page — and I’m worried about my next read now because I’m pretty sure it won’t reach this level of greatness…
Yes, there is the usual one-bed-only part — but does it play out the usual way? Absolutely, yes, and absolutely not, no. Even in the small details, Brinn writes so sensitively and empathetically that I smiled, laughed, and cried and experienced everything in between. I have never rooted so intensively for any fictitious couple before.
In a romance, I prefer an open bedroom door — and I got it here. The scenes of their growing intimacy were so tender, empathic, wholesome even, and deeply human — and all the more smoking hot for it.
Not only are our protagonists well-written but the secondary characters - the families and friends - are beautifully depicted as well and I loved reading about the interactions between each and every one of them.
A parent of three amazing adults myself, I also found myself deeply sympathising with these book parents.
»You never know, as a parent, whether you’re making the right decisions at the time, and sometimes you only figure it out years later. I’m sorry for that, Jules. I should have done it differently.«
Maybe this is, in part, a wish fulfilment fantasy (“a man written by a woman” as the novel puts it) but either way: I sincerely wish for every single person out there to find this kind of love. (And am happy to report, my wife and I did 25 years ago.)
Maybe you’re thinking I’m not critical enough now but while the “perfect book” doesn’t exist, this comes pretty close: The pacing is on-point. The usual tropes are skillfully avoided and, if they exist, handled with such almost unprecedented care and in a way that makes them feel entirely different. Maybe there’s precisely one intimate scene too many but I for one can easily forgive that.
I lost sleep over “When I’m with You” and it garners the easiest and most heart-felt five stars out of five in a very long time.
I was so excited to read this book after finishing 𝘽𝙚𝙘𝙖𝙪𝙨𝙚 𝙤𝙛 𝙔𝙤𝙪. Julie’s character had a lot of black cat energy in her twin brother’s book and I just knew that her story was going to be something powerful.
On the outside Jules is perfect, organized and someone who always has a plan. On the inside, she’s struggling with intense anxiety that she’s too afraid to let anyone close to her know about.
When football quarterback, Asher Hansley finds her in one of her low moments, he blackmails her into going on a roadtrip with him to Colorado to visit his family.
Asher hasn’t been able to get Julie out of his brain since he met her. Now he has her in his car on a roadtrip and wants nothing more than to help her cope with her anxiety. He is keeping his fingers crossed he can also convince her to take a chance at a relationship with him. Asher has secrets he’s hiding from the world that directly affect his football career. He’s terrified to face them, but together with his 𝑱𝒖𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒕𝒕𝒆, maybe they can both overcome their struggles.
I resonated with Julie’s character so much. She comes off as a Black Cat only because she’s protecting herself. Her being paired off with Asher who radiates mega Golden Retriever, was perfect. This man made it his life’s mission to put a smile on her face. I absolutely love him and I’m not going to be over this book any time soon.
The ending had me bawling both sad and happy tears. The found family in this story is so great! I love them all and I’m so excited to get Emma and Jeremy’s story one day!
The spice in this book was perfect. Asher was so dang good to Juliette and when the time came he freaking delivered.
Why is it that the second book of a series hits so good???? It was so good. I genuinely loved it so much.
You’ve got: 💙 Road Trip vibes // forced proximity ✨He is obsessed with her 💙Black cat FMC // Golden Retriever MMC ✨Found Family - but their families are SO cute 💙 He falls first & hard ✨He has a filthy little mouth 💙Mental Health Awareness/representation
To say this was perfection wouldn’t be doing the book justice. Honestly, Jules & Asher’s relationship was everything I needed. She was stressy, he was calm. She was moody, he was happy. She was frustrated, he had something for that (🤭)
Jules INFURIATED me in the first book, to the point that I really didn’t care for her, but this was an absolute redemption arc masterpiece. Her character made so much sense in this story, she just needed someone to listen to her, to hold her and take the reins for a bit (I can’t believe I’m saying this, because I love her so much, but my god Hallie, wake up your friend needs you!!!)
Asher was the man for the job and stepped in right away, not giving Jules an option and whisking her away on a road trip that she could not plan for - but knowing the end result will be meeting Asher’s very large family - genius in my opinion. Along the way they get up to some very interesting activities that had me giggling throughout. I now desperately want to howl at the moon (that is all I will say 🤭)
Asher, god bless your big fat heart you absolute SOFTIE. I mean wow, this man dragged his tongue behind Jules and drooled all over her (not literally- he was just that obsessed with her lol). He has climbed that book boyfriend ladder quite high tbh. Ugh I just love them both so much !!!
I am forever grateful to Luna Literary and Samantha Brinn for gifting me with this ARC. This is her best yet and I’m SO excited for Emma and Jeremy 🥹🥰
Absolute perfection!!! My new favorite book! Asher & Julie blew me away. They are soooo perfect for each other. He calms her and she makes him swoon. These two gave me heart eyes the entire book.
🤩Lawyer FMC 🏈NFL Football MMC 💓Forced Proximity 🌟He Falls First & Hard 🫠One Bed 🫶🏼Mental Health Rep 🐈⬛ Black Cat FMC 🦮Golden Retriever MMC 💓Road Trip 🌟Found Family
I was nervous for Julie from book one. She seemed so lost, overwhelmed and needing a lifeline. In walks Asher, to make everything better. And let me tell you. If he doesn’t have you swooning from the first chapter, fanning yourself throughout the entire book and having Julie step so out of her comfort zone, you are not reading what I just did, because absolute perfection! You will be laughing, crying and not wanting to put this book down.
And Asher, and his beautiful soul! He had my heart racing this entire book. He calmed Julie’s storms, she is his biggest fan and best friend. I love how well these two compliment each other.
Samantha Brinn writes with so much heart and emotion! She will have you flipping the pages so fast to see what comes next, all while swooning the entire read.
julie is me. I am julie. this was so wholesome and sweet and warm. It felt like my favourite dessert. we love an emotionally available man and asher was top tier! The found family vibes were immaculate. and the SPICE?! OH MY! will definitely be reading emma's book. thank you to luna literary pr for this arc.
This book is for the eldest daughters. For the girls who have been made to feel like they have to do everything for themselves. The ones who feel like they are too much, while also fearing they are not enough. This is for the girls who do everything for everyone and hopes that no one notices their insecurities.
Julie and Asher are the perfect balance of personalities. Their chemistry and banter is everything. Watching these two come together was everything I could hope for.
Julie our FMC is independent, hardworking, driven, and constantly trying to prove herself. She hides herself behind her work in hopes that those around her won’t see her struggling. That is until Asher comes along and sees past all her defences. Watching her grow into herself and accept her insecurities was great. Julie allowing herself to be open and vulnerable with Asher was wonderful. His patience and understanding of her is something everyone deserves.
Asher our MMC is kind, patient, understanding, and trying to find himself. Though Asher is a ray of sunshine he also has his own problems that he is working through. His ability to open up and be vulnerable with Julie was everything. Him taking the time to meet her where she was at while also giving him parts of himself was commendable. Watching him create roots with friends and establish a relationship with Julie was beautiful.
Julie and Asher had a lot to work through but their connection to each other kept them going. They allowed each other the space they needed to deal with their problems while also making sure the other knew they were there. The healthy communication was wonderful and I can’t wait to see what the rest of the series holds.
I received and advanced copy and these are my thoughts:
Uptight and spreadsheet loving lawyer Julie, finds herself in a difficult situation: tell her brother and best friends a very well kept secret or go on a road trip with a charming and very insistent quarterback. Asher was fascinated with Julie since he first heard her voice at a charity gala months ago. She rejected him then but now, he takes the opportunity to “blackmail” her into joining him on a road trip to his hometown, in hopes of winning her over. Will a week on the road prove to be enough time to make Julie Parker fall for the star quarterback? Or will she run for the hills earlier than planned?
I loved this book!! I don’t know how Samantha expects us to move on after reading about Asher! I want to know where I can find one for myself, please and thank you!! Julie and Asher were just so perfect for each other! Absolutely meant to be.
Asher was one of the best “men written by a woman”. He was calm and collected; loving, caring, handsome and so very naughty. The way he helped Julie grow and come out of her shell - always reassuring but never pushy. And Julie, she starts off as a black cat; she was very anxious and a workaholic but as she spends time with Asher and begins to feel safe and seen, she changes into a version of herself that is much more authentic and happy. She becomes such a loving and supportive partner too.
They had a healthy, loving, healing relationship and I loved them for it. But I also liked Julie’s bossiness when she wanted to impose herself and take the lead.
The found family aspect in their group of friends was endearing, as was the sibling relationships - Asher had 4 sisters and Julie a twin brother (Ben was the MMC in book 1).
I have to say, though I laughed and giggled, I also got emotional and even cried a little - yes Samantha you know where! But then the epilogue was healing and satisfying.
I loved Ben and Hallie but Asher and Julie were just so special. There was nothing in this story that annoyed me or grated at my nerves. It was lovely. I recommend this book but beware, it’s spicy!! 3/5🌶️
Book 2 in the Laws of You series focuses on Julie Parker, sister of Ben and best friend of Hallie. Julie is a type A personality, living her life ruled by spreadsheets and organization. Julie puts on a facade that she is perfect on the outside, when on the inside, she's a mess, especially since her brother and best friend became an item.
She meets Asher Hansley at a charity ball when she asked him to take her picture with her friends. She didn't realize who he was at first (or didn't care). Asher was a goner when he heard Julie's voice. He asks for her number and she turns him down, but lucky for Asher, he strikes up a friendship with Julie's brother Ben, who is more than happy to give Asher her number.
Fast forward a few weeks, and Asher is at Julie's office for a meeting and goes to ask Julie for lunch. He finds her in a state of panic and calms her down. He then invites her on a road trip to Boulder, Colorado from Pittsburgh. Julie agrees, which is so unlike her.
Asher and Julie begin their road trip and get to know each other better. Asher just gets Julie from the beginning; he sees through the walls she has put up and sees the real her. He begins to break down her walls, and honestly, Julie's character arc is really amazing. Her growth throughout the book hit my personally, as I can relate to Julie in many ways.
One thing I will say about this author - she writes incredible MMC's. Like really incredible. I absolutely adored Asher. He had four sisters and was incredibly close to all of them. He's the quarterback of the Pittsburgh football team, and famous. He was so modest and lovable. I truly adored his character.
This is a must read series if you like series based around friends. I highly recommend this book and the whole series.
This book was so cute. I was instantly pulled in by Asher’s prologue. The way Asher is portrayed—swoon-worthy and the perfect book husband—had my full attention. Asher and Juliette make the perfect couple, and their chemistry was everything. I loved how Asher knew she was ‘the one’ and was persistent in showing her that. He was Juliette’s safe place, and she was his. The way they helped each other overcome personal challenges, tackling them together rather than alone, had me rooting for them.
Also, the found family dynamic was perfection. I loved how they all came together for each other, making sure no one was ever alone. They always had each other’s support, along with that of their families. The communication between Asher and Juliette was healthy, and I devoured every sweet and spicy moment they shared 🤭. They were truly meant for each other.
YOU GUYS I’M OBSESSEDDDDDDD. I’m actually mad at myself bc I wish I would have read Because of You (book 1) first but I will 100% be going back and reading it now! This is book 2 in an interconnected stand alone series and my first time reading Samantha’s work!
Where to start with this one. I feel like a lot of people, including myself, will be able to connect with Julie’s mental health struggles in this book. While I haven’t dealt with anxiety at her level, her perfectionist ways were relatable AF for me. And the way that Asher helps support her had me swooning all over the place. THAT MAN. I mean, he planned the road trip and even found out all her fave snacks and drinks so he could have them for her 𝘸𝘪𝘵𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘵 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘵𝘰 𝘢𝘴𝘬 𝘩𝘦𝘳. The way this man just GETS her is unreal. Having 4 sisters really served him well 😂
To say I loved this book is a massive understatement. I fell in love with the characters and didn’t want it to end. Already signed up for the ARC of book 3 because I need more of this entire group of friends. I laughed, I cried, I fanned myself. What more could you want…honestly. THANK YOU @samanthabrinnauthor & @lunaliterary.management for the allowing me to read this early.
HI THIS IS ABSOLUTE PERFECTION AND I WILL HEAR NOTHING ELSE ABOUT IT.

Listen I have loved Julie from the very moment her name came on my screen and my love for her only grew 10 fold reading her story. Julie is a QUEEN!!
Asher and Julie were made for each other. I’m talking soulmate shit. I’m so in love with them!! Asher is the calm to Julie’s storm. Julie is exactly the woman that Asher needed.
This book is a warm hug. The writing is so beautiful. The anxiety rep?!? Please!! This book had me SOBBING in the best way the last 80%. So many incredibly real and raw moments.
Asher and Julie were actually so perfect for each other. They were funny, comforting, and STEAMY AF!!
Listen Asher made me pregnant and he’s not real. So riddle me that!! ✨science✨
So in conclusion this book is absolute perfection. No notes. I’m obsessed with this world and these characters.
Asher is hooked on Julie from their first meeting but she refuses to give him her number. He is persistent, though. She has a panic attack that he helps her through, and he makes a deal with her that either she goes on a road trip to his hometown or tell her twin brother about the panic attack. Obviously not wanting anyone else to know she struggles, she agrees to go with him. Over the next two weeks he’s able to get her to lower her walls and be vulnerable. He’s all in, and his family loves her. He has 4 sisters that he adores, and I love that he loves his family so much. His mom (and dad) taught him well. ❤️
Asher is so swoony, I melted. 🫠 He calls her ‘Juliette’ instead of Julie because she was named after her grandmother and nobody else calls her that (at first he just wanted to get under her skin but then it became a term of endearment). He buys a fancy espresso machine for his house for her to use when she’s there (even though he doesn’t drink coffee). He knows her favorite thing is peppermint Hershey Kisses, so he buys bags & bags for her. He gets her, he makes her feel safe, he sometimes knows her better than she knows herself. He washes her hair. 🫶🏻
He’s at a career crossroads with football, and she shows up for him by being there, listening, and loving him - unconditionally, just like he is for her. Football is his entire life/identity, and he doesn’t know where he fits outside of that. She understands that because she doesn’t know where she fits, either, when she’s a perfectionist and is not comfortable giving up control. I really felt for her/wanted to hug her when she told Asher that she wasn’t sure if she was ‘too much’ or ‘not enough’, and that if she showed her true/messy self, people wouldn’t want her anymore. 🥺 God, do I relate. But of course Asher says "There's nothing about you that's too much, and you are exactly enough.” I love him.
“When I'm with you my brain is quiet, when in the rest of my life it is so, so loud. You make me feel like it's okay to be whoever I need to be. You make me feel free."
‘My love for her is so enormous I'm shocked she can't feel it every time I look at her.’
“He sees me, all the way through, and I didn't realize how badly I needed to be seen.”
“I've always thought that if I look perfect on the outside and do everything right, then maybe no one will realize I'm mostly a mess on the inside.”
“You're my person."
“You make everything easier. When I'm with you, my whole world makes sense.”
"I used to think no one would ever see all of me and want to stick around. I didn't feel safe enough to show anyone the parts of myself I thought were broken.”
"Juliette, you are my favorite everything.”
Read this if you like: *Sports romance (professional football 🏈) *Golden retriever MMC w/a filthy mouth *Brilliant lawyer FMC *Road trip *He gets a tattoo for her *Anxiety/panic attacks rep *Found family
I’m so excited to continue this series and finally read Emma and Jeremy’s story in book 3. 😍
"Juliette, if it makes you smile like that, I would be happy never to win another game we play for the rest of our lives." "The rest of our lives, huh?" "I'm manifesting, baby."

Jules my, a sweet black cat that deserves all the love! I’m so in love with her – I wanna hug her and protect her from the world. I can understand that she felt alone after her brother and her best friend became a couple – she felt like she was completely alone and no one would ever listen to her. I loved how Asher became the person who saw her and knew how she felt 😭💗 She needed him and I loved how he took her on a much-needed road trip. It was so sweet of Ash to plan some fun and interesting activities along the ride – like visiting museums or howling with wolves 🤭
Ash my sweet kind, understanding, and patient sweetheart who is also trying to find himself – he deserves the world 😭💗Even though Ash is a ray of sunshine he also has his problems – can he still play football despite his shoulder or does he have to find something new? I loved that Ash could open up and be vulnerable with Jules. His taking the time to meet her and seeing the real Jules was so adorable of him. Everyone deserves an Asher in their life that sees them and will love and protect them 💗🥺
Ash’s Love Language was so beautiful 💗 I loved how he always had her favorite candy and coffee for her and how he always cooked for her. Like how baked a lot of Cookies for all his Family - it's a Hansley tradition 🥺💗 He truly is the BEST Boyfriend ever! It was adorable watching Jules fall in love with Ash – they are the definition of soulmates 😭💗
Also, Ash's sister and mom were everything!! It was so sweet of his mom to bake Jules's favorite cookies - peanut butter chocolate chip cookies. And when Ash called Jules "Juliette" 😭💗 HE IS EVERYTHING!!
Sam brought out all the feelings I loved and will cherish forever! Jules and Ash truly captured my heart 🥹💗

First I’d like to thank Samantha Brinn and Luna Literary Management for this wonderful opportunity of receiving this ARC! My review is made of entirely my own thoughts!
Where do I even begin! Samantha just knows how to make you smile, laugh, cry, feel these impactful emotions every time! I absolutely loved book 1 and this one definitely lived up to everything and more!
I truly loved Julie and Asher and the journey of their relationship! They were so in tune with each other and I adore the attention and care they had. Asher was perfect for Julie and vice versa, becoming the others special person who managed to get each other on a whole other level! I didn’t see Julie becoming a character I would love as much as I did, there was so much growth and depth to her that you could understand her so much more through her own perspective. This couple was so beautiful and perfect together, complimenting the other so well!
There was so much connection and chemistry, the realness and ability to communicate was incredible and powerful to read. The fact that they were so open with their mental health and chose to share that vulnerability was so special!
I always love a nickname and something I loved with Julie and Asher was that they gave each other one! Julie got called “blondie” and Asher was called “hot shot”! Absolutely adored it every time! I thought it was so lovely how only Asher was the one to call her by her full name Juliette!
A huge part of this book that I found perfect was the friendship group and both their families being prominent figures throughout. I adore the found family aspect and this is total what these friends are, people who choose to be together and are always there for each other! I can’t wait to see more of them in books yet to come!
It’s always such a pleasure reading Samantha’s books, they are so beautifully written with incredible characters and lovely storylines. Above all she writes swoon-worthy boyfriends who love their girls unconditionally!
When I’m with You releases today, 15th October!💙

The first time Asher Hansley saw Julie Parker, he knew that she was it for him. Now, it was just up to him to help her realize that too. When Asher kinda, sorta, blackmails Julie into taking a road trip with him back to Colorado to visit his family, she has no choice but to agree. Both are harboring secrets from all of their loved ones, but are comfortable enough to spill to one another. As time goes on, the two get closer and may realize that they are just each other's person after all.
MY GOSH I LOVED THIS BOOK. As much as I love Hallie and Ben (from Because of You), Asher and Julie have taken over the top spot in my favorite couple in the Samantha Brinn universe. This may be her sophomore novel, but I just fall for her writing style every time. I just love the way she writes these characters' love stories, and interweaving in more difficult conversations and topics with lighthearted banter helps just balance everything out. I swear to you I had tears in my eyes for the last quarter of this book.
Julie and Asher always wanted to be put together and their people pleasing tendencies left them feeling unable to be vulnerable with others, but having the connection that they did and the ability to be vulnerable and let go in front of each other is just the best feeling. Knowing that you have a person in your corner that will just let you be you, without any consequences, is all we can really ask for. Asher really met Julie where she was and took dedicated time and effort to prove to her that he was the person that she needed. And just the shenanigans and little banter and cute touches that they had throughout the story. SWOON!!! Gosh I love them so much. And how Asher's teeth haven't fallen out, I will never understand lol.
I am SOOOO ready for Emma and Jeremy though! And here's to hoping that Molly's book is who I think it's with!!
ARC review Thank you so much for letting reading this e-arc omg it was soo good let’s get to the review happy reading 📖

Tropes - one bed - Golden retriever x black cat - Road trip - Force Proximity - Mental health representation - He falls first - Found family Triggers - anxiety - Panic attack on page - Use of pain medicine without doctor prescription
This book had me laughing, crying awwww and I related so much to the FMC Julie is a lawyer for the estate lawyer and she is seen as this perfect organized always on top of everything type of person but deep in reality she is someone who is dealing with anxiety and the pressure of being perfect and I know how that feels. Asher is a football quarterback and a freaking golden retriever I loved Asher so much I wish he was real and also he has a soda fountain with Dr Pepper. I want one, but with Diet Coke Asher literally the only one who can see Julie for who she is and how she feels and Julie does the same with Asher when his shoulder that hurts and helps him with what to do next. What I really loved is that both of them helped each other heal in the way of like being able to solve and help each other out with their problems and work together as a couple really good book. I really enjoy it. It has plot and it has spice.
ARC Review- When I’m With You by Samantha Brinn 5 ⭐️
I wasn’t sure if Samantha was going to be able to top Ben and Hallie’s story, but my goodness she did. I absolutely adore Asher and Julie. This book is phenomenal, beautiful, funny, swoony, and I am in love with her writing style. I couldn’t put it down, but at the same time I didn’t want it to end.
From the moment pro football player, Asher Hansley hears Juliette Parker’s voice he is a goner. Unfortunately, Julie isn’t exactly on the same page. Her character is so misunderstood and I loved getting to learn her true self and the growth that her character has during this book is amazing. Asher truly sees Julie for who she is, he understands her more than anyone ever has, it just takes her a while to realize this.
The way the two of them love so deeply and help each other through dark times is nothing like I’ve ever read. I can truly say I LOVED this book. The adventurous road trip that they take is everything. They learn, grow, let loose, open up, and let’s not forget about the spice. 😮💨
I also have to mention the found family aspect of this series is so dang good. I love the friend group and relationships between all the characters 🫶🏻

Thank you so much Samantha Brinn for the opportunity to read this as an ARC for my honest opinion and review!
Laws of You Series | Book 2 | Asher Hansley & Julie Parker
Sam nails the emotions, the intimacy, the chemistry, and the sheer fun of taking us along Asher and Julie’s road trip!🚙
✨mini synopsis✨ Asher is totally infatuated with Julie from the first night he laid eyes on her….Julie not so much😅 but what she doesn’t expect is for their paths to cross again 6 months later…After Asher finds Julie in a compromising position he goes all in suggesting the wild idea that she takes a 2 week road trip with him hoping it’ll bring some joy to her life & maybe just maybe he can be someone Julie feels safe enough to confide in.

My Thoughts 💭 I thought it would be next to impossible to edge out Ben & Hallie but Sam did it with these two! This was an absolute Julie redemption. I wasn’t a big fan of her in the first book, but my god do I understand Julie now. This one is for all of us anxious girlies who feel like they have to shoulder all the weight themselves. That asking for help means we aren’t capable & that keeping it inside is better than letting others know we are struggling. I resonated so deeply to Julie & to see Asher be that man that appreciates all her versions but also tells her she doesn’t have to carry it alone anymore, well that’s just a pure MAN!
Julie seems cold at first, but it doesn’t scare Asher. He knows what she needs & he isn’t going to stop until she sees that he’s the one that can be her counterpart. Her soft place to land. Her safe place. Her person. We see a softer more caring side to Julie & how she also cares for Asher in his moments of weakness proves how perfect these two are for each other!
Right let me start by saying I honestly don’t think 5 stars are enough for this book! The dedication at the beginning got me straight away! To everyone who ever told me I was either “too much” or “not enough.” Fuck off.
I wasn’t a fan of Julie in Because of you and wasn’t sure how I was going to read her book because of her attitude towards Hallie but omg did Sam outdo herself with Julie and Asher. I didn’t think I would or could love Jules and Ash more than Ben and Hallie but OMG I did and I do!!
As a person who suffers from anxiety I felt Julie so much and Asher was absolutely amazing with her - I mean WHAT A MAN!!!!! His love for her was everything and when she finally let herself love him - wow!!!
My fave quote of the book from Julie herself “Sometimes it feels like people don’t. Like maybe I’m…too much. Or not enough? I’ve never been quite sure which. I think maybe if I let people see the mess I actually am, they won’t want me anymore.”
I devoured this book - I didn’t want to put it down - I couldn’t put it down! I absolutely LOVED it and cannot wait for the 3rd book of the series! Thank you so much to Sam and Luna Literary for this eARC in exchange for my honest review ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ ♾️
When I’m with You ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 🚗 I’m still absolutely blown away that this series is Samantha Brinn’s first! When I’m with You is the second book in her Laws of You series that follows a group of women best friends who all own a law practice together. Book 1, Because of You, was an easy 5-stars for me and when I saw an opportunity to read an ARC of her newest release, I RAN. This series so far not only showcases the realities of strong, female friendships (the good, bad, and ugly), but topics like mental health, anxiety, burnout, self worth and sooo much more. After book 1, I’ve been so eager to see Julie’s “redemption” and her story to her own HEA. Samantha Brinn has earned a fan in me and I’m beyond excited for the rest of this series (and whatever else she chooses to write) 🤩 🚗 Julie is a perfectionist lawyer who is known amongst her family and friends for always having a plan, directions for everyone to follow, and a spreadsheet to keep it all perfectly organized. In a span of a few weeks, her best friend starts dating her brother and the structure of their new law practice changes, so her anxiety and need to take control are at an all time high. Asher, a golden-boy, pro QB, is on top of the world on the outside, but inside is barely holding himself together as he works through a shoulder injury. Football is all he knows and is focused on so he feels immediately drawn to someone as driven as Julie. When he witnesses Julie in the middle of a panic attack, he convinces her to join him on his roadtrip home to Colorado to help her relax and the two are off on a cross-country adventure! 🚗 I love this series so much already! The men are swoony, the spice is spicy, and these characters will have you loving them from the very beginning. Thank you, @samanthabrinnauthor SO much for the advance copy of this gem of a story 🥺
🚗 golden retriever and black-ish cat 🚗 roadtrip to Colorado (aye) 🚗 football player mmc 🚗 found family 🚗 metal health rep 🚗 dual pov
This was so magical to me, I will never judge a book by it's cover ever again - I'd been putting it off because the cover just didn't speak to me, but I'm already starting the next book that just came out today because I'm so invested in this friend group
Asher never once wavered in showing Juliette how he felt about her and what he wanted - I really resonated with her story and all I want is my own Asher to just continue to show up even with my prickly edges and all (I listed to So High School and just grinned the entire time reading this)
– Dual pov – Both celibate (h for awhile, H at least since he first saw h months earlier but could have been longer before that, 100% not a manwhore) – NFL QB H/lawyer h – Reverse grumpy/sunshine vibes – No cheating or OW/OM drama – HEA ending + epilogue of wedding (wish it was farther in future!)
I wish I could give this book so many more than 5 stars!! This book was PERFECTION! Ending this book had me fully sobbing! I'm not generally one to read FMC's that are much like myself; I like my reading to be an escape. However, Julie was everything I needed in my life right now! Reading about her anxiety felt more like looking into a mirror than reading a book. Her love for her people and her path to learning to let go was so beautifully written, and I don't know that I could love an FMC more! And Asher?? Where does one order a stupid hot, emotionally mature NFL quarterback who's just obsessed enough to be amazing?? I love him so much! This story had me laughing, crying, and everything in between! And, once again, this friend group and family members were the FUNNIEST characters! The banter between the moms had me rolling with laughter!! Overall, this is up there on my list of favorite books of the year, if not ever! I loved this one so much! 5 stars; 4 chili peppers
Tropes: - Black Cat x Golden Retriever - Forced Proximity - Mental Health/Anxiety Rep - He Falls First and HARD - Road Trip - Supportive Friends and Family
4.5 stars! This was literally so darn cute! I am in love with Asher & Julie!! They both are exactly what the other needs and I love how free they are together! I also love a good road trip story and this was perfect for them! Asher is literally top tier book boyfriend material and so darn sweet! I love how they both truly see each other and can open up about their fears and be vulnerable!

When I'm With You made me cry ridiculous tears while reading in public. Happy tears. Sad tears. Happy tears again. I can not get enough of Julie and Asher. The way they completely see each other is just beautiful. But this book is so much more than just their incredibly sweet, insightful, and deliciously spicy love story. It's also family, deep and full friendship, found family, and finding your home.
I enjoyed Because of You, and knew I would be reading When I’m With You, when available. I needed to know Jules story.
Asher is perfect for her; they complement each other. They just worked. Stealing her away on the road trip was perfect, his calm to her storm. I have so much to say, but afraid to give too much away. Both books have exceeded my expectations, and I am looking forward to more.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
Samantha Brinn writes sweet, spicy stories + swoon worthy men so well! When I’m With You is another example of why I love a book series. I love this friend group and how it jumps right back in with all of them. Julie is a perfectionist lawyer who doesn’t accept help from others easily. Asher is a little ball of sunshine NFL player who wants nothing more than to take care of & be there for Julie. He “convinces” her to go on a roadtrip with him and slowly but surely starts breaking down her walls.
I had a few favorite parts that I don’t want to give away, but things I can say: •the way the friend group adopts Asher is everything. Found family is strong in this series! •Rachel Parker. Mom of the year. •the group chats - laugh out loud funny •the epilogue. I didn’t see that one coming.
[am I the only one who keeps picturing Asher as Travis Kelce completely smitten by Taylor Swift?]
