Colton Morris is a demon. The correct term is “Shadoweaver”, although that is a word that most dare not utter in the royal city of Corvain. Living as a Caster in the poorest district of the city has made Colton’s life an inescapable hell - something that the ethereal voice in his head insists on reminding him.
Just when Colton started to believe that things couldn’t get any worse, beloved Queen Catherine is murdered by magic, sending Corvain into a frenzy to find the Caster who is responsible. While fleeing his home, Colton collides with an undercover prince, withholding no shortage of secrets. Little did he know this fateful encounter would thrust him into a lifechanging adventure.
Bigoted kings, power hungry lords, and ancient monsters may be the least of Colton’s troubles if he cannot learn to control the voice inside his head.
I absolutely loved that this book gave me everything!! This amazing new author was able to build incredible characters that you absolutely fall in love with and care for!
He also managed an incredible task of a full epic fantasy novel in one book. There was so much adventure and twists that you never see coming!!
I couldn't put this book down reading until late in the night!! I can't wait for another book, because it's coming. I just know it!!!
I loved following the adventures and twists and turns of this book. I was so impressed with how easily the author made the reader attached to the characters.
Great read and kept me engaged! I never knew what would happen next and I was hooked from the beginning. Peace and love my friends, you gotta read this.
I first discovered Shadoweaver by Matthew Evanego through his TikTok promotion. As someone who loves supporting indie authors, I was immediately drawn in by his enthusiasm and the promise of Griffins (one of my favorite mythical creatures, and my last name!) I didn’t hesitate to grab a copy from Amazon and ended up switching between the physical book and Kindle Unlimited. Being a night reader, this convenience made it easy for me to dive into the story at any hour.
While the writing style was a bit different from what I’m usually drawn to, I found myself enjoying the unique flow and rhythm of Matthew's storytelling. His approach gave the book a fresh and distinctive feel, which helped immerse me in the world he created. Speaking of which, the magic and world-building were definite highlights. The setting felt alive with its own intricate rules and lore, making it easy to get lost in the fantastical elements of the story.
For me, though, the standout feature of Shadoweaver was its emphasis on unexpected friendships and the chosen family dynamic that developed throughout the journey. These relationships added so much heart to the story, balancing out the action and magic with moments of genuine connection. Watching the characters grow together and rely on each other gave the narrative emotional depth and left me rooting for them.
Overall, this was such a fun and memorable read! It might not have been a perfect match for my usual preferences, but it definitely kept me engaged and entertained. I’d rate it 3.5 stars and would recommend it to anyone looking for an indie fantasy read with strong themes of camaraderie and some fantastic magical creatures.
As an avid reader, this book would not fall into the normal choice of my genres, but WOW, I’m so glad I read it. It pulled me in from the first few pages. The whole time I wanted to tag along and be friends with the main characters and be a part of the world they were in…even not knowing page to page what awaited them. Not surprising to me, I even shed a tear or two…and I’m not even sure it was what the author was trying to draw from its reader. But to me as a reader, that’s how I know I was drawn and connected to this book. I’m sad that it ended. I can only hope this new author has a sequel brewing in his mind and waiting to be put onto paper. If you are looking for something new to read, please make this your choice! You will not be disappointed!!
First half of the book was very good. Then out of knowhere comes a super forced and trivial training trial. Which was very out of place and felt more of a filling rather than an important MC journey.
And then we immediately jump to the last battle.
Second half of the book could've been much better.
“Shadoweaver” was a very well written, fun book. It had everything a fantasy book should have; adventure, magic, and even a little bit of romance. The storyline was strong and good at keeping a reader’s interest. I would definitely recommend for any fantasy lover out there!
Shadoweaver is a fantastic YA fantasy novel with a cast of lovable characters set in a world of magic and monsters. Any reader looking for a found family story full or wit and adventure will find a home in this tale.
This was a fantastic read! I can't wait to see what Matthew does from here. I was hooked into the story right away. Wallace was my favorite. Found family is my favorite trope and I loved that it was more fantasy and no spice.
I wish I had known about this book earlier! It was so fun to read - the multidimensional characters, the magic system, the found family, I loved it all. I was so upset in chapter 42 haha, but now I just can’t wait for the next one! Truly amazing work!
I absolutely loved this book, action packed with so many twists & turns! Loved reading about all the characters & I love how the author ties all the storylines together, great writing!!
Just finished and wanting more! Looks like there might be! Fingers crossed. Great read with twists and turns that keep you guessing even to the end. You don’t want to pass this one.
