The planet-destroying Worldmind stands poised to annihilate the Earth, but our mightiest defenders are gone! Ultraa confronts an alien tribunal on the far side of the galaxy. Vanadium faces charges of treason against his own kind. And so Pulsar and her remaining few teammates have no choice-- as zero hour approaches, they must launch a daring-- and terrifying-- raid into the very heart of the Worldmind.

"I couldn't put ( The Shiva Advent) down... Captures the essence of comic book adventures... If you love old-school Avengers tales, then this book is for you." --OnceUponAGeek.com
Van Allen Plexico has written a dozen novels and contributed to at least that many anthologies, but is best known for his popular and critically-acclaimed SENTINELS superhero novels, as well as the two-time Novel of the Year Finalist LORDS OF FIRE and its sequels in the "Shattering" space opera series. In the realm of nonfiction, he co-wrote the best-selling DECADES OF DOMINANCE and SEASON OF OUR DREAMS books about Auburn football and created the ASSEMBLED! books, exploring the history of Marvel’s AVENGERS comics. He writes and edits for numerous publishers including Airship 27, Pro Se Press, Permuted/Swarm Press, Maple Street Press, New Babel Books, Adamant, and White Rocket, along with occasional columns for RevolutionSF.com and the War Eagle Reader. He serves as an Associate Professor at Southwestern Illinois College.
In keeping with the pulp superhero feel of the series. I'm starting to wonder if any of the earlier characters, such as Ultraa or Pulsar, are going to get power ups soon, otherwise they're in serious danger of being left behind by the power creep
Very entertaining. I was hoping for more of an ending. I guess I will have to read all the books. There is maybe just a little to much going on in the book.
I have never really been into cosmic stories in the comic books. I can see similarities from characters like Thanos and Kang the Conqueror from Marvel. Obviously from the Sentinels as well being like an amalgamation of the Avengers and Justice League. I think that is kind of cool. Similarities but yet totally original characterization.
I’m a little disappointed in Ultra. So far he has been no Superman. I suppose that is yet to come. Esro is a definite Tony Stark though. I like the back stories of these characters. Most of them very original. Some maybe influenced by the big two comic book companies.
I will finish the second trilogy. I want to see what happens with the Grear Rivals interactions with each other and the Sentinels. A lot needs to still be resolved. The Sentinels are in way over their heads. This will take more than superpowers to come out of this in one piece. More like sheer luck and a lot of ally’s. So far that part is shaping up.
I have pretty much run out of superhero novels to read so I will finish the entire run. So far it has been very well worth it and I would rate the series up to now 4.5 out of 5. Again just To much going on at the same time. The focus has been all over the place. With the Worldmind, Stellerax and the Grey Man all converging on earth with their immense power, it’s kind of maybe a little to much power at the same time. It would be like the Avengers fighting Kang, the Celestials, Thanos , Eternity , Ego and all the other cosmic beings at the same time. Maybe a little much for a superhero team. If you like comic books with a cosmic flavor then this is for you.

Miss the days of cosmic comic entities threatening humanity with annialation? I did. Days of man vs the universe return in all their glory. The "Rivals" gather and the Earth is right in the middle of their wrath. Hold on to something... this series just picked up a full head of steam and is NOT stopping for anyone! This one goes on the "awesome" shelf!
