Back in Tenabra after the siege of Ys, Ensign Silvus de Castro and his squire Will de Parkin are soon the unwilling guests of Prince Nathan and his chief enforcer Georghe de Barras. They share their prison with the mysterious Master Grames = alias the Great Wandini - and his lovely assistant Arienne. Prince Nathan's interest in Silvus and Grames? Magic, the Dark magic he needs to extend his empire...The sequel to A Dark Winter and the second volume of the Tenabran Trilogy.
Title: A Dark Journey Author: Dave Luckett Publisher: Omnibus Books
Ensign Silvus de Castro and his squire Will de Parkin are well developed characters. Their journey from one perilous situation to another as prisoners of a power hungry tyrant Prince Nathan is thoroughly engaging. It is like watching a poker match seeing Silvus and perceptive Will keep their cards close and well shielded until they attempt to lay them out and escape. The Dark is a power used my magic wielding people known a Mage who can control others through their power. Silvus has the ability but refuses to use it due to a vow he made to his father many years earlier. Arienne has the power but is controlled by the mysterious and plotting Master Grames. Prince Nathan wants them to use their talents for his own benefit.
This is Book Two of the ‘Tenebran Trilogy’ and a top rate Science Fantasy, my favourite genre. The world Dave Luckett creates is shown on a detailed map at the front of the book. I didn’t really look at the map until I’d completed the journey and then when I took time to study the dotted line of the trio Silvus, Will and Ariennes' flight so vivid in mind my heart started racing as I recalled the desperation and attempt to outrace their captors. The glossary at the back of the book explains words that seem foreign but enhance the landscape of this complex world. Right after the map two pages of detailed sketches of a Goblin warrior and Soldiers of Prince Nathan complete with their armour knifes, swords, hammers, crossbows and shields all of this makes the imagery even more real.
I also love the thought of wise women governing a neutral kingdom. The end of the book Prioress Winterridge sends a message to Prince Nathan that is a declaration of War. Naturally, I will now go out and purchase Book One and Three of this enthralling ‘Tenabran Trilogy’ so that I can complete the journey, you may wish to do the same.

I met Dave Luckett at Somerset Literary Festival earlier this year. He was discussing politics very passionately with fellow author and Gold Coast Writers member Simon Higgins. On reflection his insight and analysis of deception and power play in the world we live in is clearly reflected in his work.
I also love the thought of wise women governing a neutral kingdom. The end of the book Prioress Winterridge sends a message to Prince Nathan that is a declaration of War.
