Welcome to my worst effin’ nightmare—The Accidental Detective Agency…
I’m Nina Statleon, a vampire (with a little bit of witch thrown in for good measure—a sucky, magic less one), for those interested. My best friends, Marty, a werewolf and and Wanda, a halfsie, have talked me into opening a detective agency for paranormals.
Let me be real clear, I do not want to be a detective and I think this idea is bananapants. Now the dungeon in my castle in Long Island is our new office, I call the murder basement, filled with watercolor landscapes, throw rugs and uncomfortable furniture—all in the name of making our clients comfortable.
That said, my partners in this new adventure don’t care about all my protests. That’s how we end up with our first client, Brenda Bronkowski, an older vampire the human police are hunting down for murder…
Brenda fell for one of the oldest tricks in this new age of technology’s book—a romance scam. Lonely and sad with only her pets for companionship, Brenda hooked up—with a human—a much younger one. You guessed it, Brenda was catfished.
Now that much younger human, Owen Barker, is dead, leaving behind a wife and two kids. Brenda swears she’s never even met him, let alone murdered him and she’s come to us for help finding the person responsible for his murder.
Not only is the suspect list low (like, we only have two), there’s a glitch, and it’s a big one.
The clan.
They don’t like it when a vampire’s been accused of murdering a human. They take you out, ask questions later. Brenda’s technically a fugitive we’re harboring while we investigate. It’s bad enough the human police like her for Owen's murder, but if the clan finds out we’ve got her holed up in the murder basement, it won’t only be curtains for Brenda, our little private investigating gig could be over before it’s really begun.
Which wouldn’t exactly be the end of the world for me, but my overachieving BFFs would never let me hear the end of it. That means, we need to solve this pronto, so we can get the clan off our backs, but more importantly, so Brenda doesn’t end up expunged...

Reading this made me go and look up the Accidental series where Marty, Wanda, and Nina first meet and become paranormals, by accident. It is a great series, very funny.
Great debut novel in a spin off series from the Accidentals. I loved that it was written in Nina’s point of view but had all the OOPs ladies. This new series is also a fantastic way to bring in previous OOPs clients to help solve the mystery, and let readers see how they have progressed in their new paranormal lives.
Although this is the first book in a spin off series, you do not have to have read the previous series. Nina, Wanda, and Marty have a strong relationship already established in this first book based on their previous experiences. If you want to see how those bonds were formed, then check out the Accidental Series. If not, then just enjoy this book. They are still managing to get into major scrapes even after all this time.
This new series was set up a little in the last Accidental book. We knew it was coming, and it did not disappoint. The Accidental Detectives: It’s Called Murder, Benda. Look It Up has great characters, some old and some new, a fast-moving plot with action, and can be read in one sitting or savored.
I enjoyed the new twist on what and how the ladies will be interacting in their world going forward. Great first book!
Well this was a book..that I read…semi-willingly (for book club) This book gave ABC family dramedy in the worst ways. The cursing felt forced like “look at me I’m so cool I cuss” but then there’d be random “AF’s” and other abbreviations thrown in there. It was very odd. The writing style was just not for me. It was extremely juvenile writing, which is odd as this book is a spin off of a long going series. But was almost written like someone’s first writing. I’m glad others seemed to enjoy it, but I do not plan to read anymore of the series. The plot itself was ok, a but predictable. But I enjoyed it enough.
What a debut! I admit that I haven’t read the series this new one is a spinoff of, but having read the author before, I knew I would laugh my head off, and I so did!
Of course, a murder to solve, hilarious and conniving main characters, amazing side characters, and a relatable “person of interest” in the investigation, on top of quite the adventure to solve it, made it for quite the enjoyable read.
Crazy it was short but took me so long. I struggled with this. I didn't like the repetitive topics throughout the whole book. Or the fact that since characters from previous series were introduced and you shouldn't have to read those they have to take an unnecessary break from the story line to give you background on the new character. The "potty mouth" seemed so forced and not natural. The abbreviated ones were worse. I do think I might not be the target audience so that could bias my opinion.

The OOPS gang has a spin off. The OOPS folks are branching out. Not only are they guiding accidental paranormals they are now investigating paranormal crimes. Their first case is a doozy as they fumble along to solve the case of the catfished vampire. I absolutely love these characters and am glad to see them stretch their wings.
Nina, Marty and Wanda are on a new adventure! They have opened their own detective agency and their first case is a doozy! In true Nina, Marty and Wanda fashion the women are on the case and will do whatever it takes to help solve their client's case.
This is not a deep dive mystery to solve. Cassidy's book is a cozy paranormal mystery that is fun and entertaining. The story has quick one liners between the BFF women. There are nicknames that bring a smile and while the clues are far and few between these women never give up. The creativity of the mystery, the clues offered and the ending simply make this book the perfect cozy mystery to read any day of the week!
