Astrid Cole has a master’s in English Literature from Florida International University. Although she enjoys all subjects, she started writing fiction in high school and hasn’t stopped since. When she’s not plotting her next novel, she’s teaching students history and hitting the gym. A former bodybuilder, running and exercise are a part of her daily routine…and so are playing video games and watching horror movies. Diamond City is her first published novel.
Opal City is the fourth book in the Diamond City series by Astrid Cole and what a book, I got this as an ARC copy and couldn’t wait to get started.
This book is gripping right from the start and it grabs you and doesn’t let you go until the final page. If you are looking for a spicy, fast - paced fantasy series then you really should check this series out.
With so many characters to fall in love with, as we go through the books Astrid just builds on these characters and makes them so much better and more interesting. Also plenty of villains that we love to hate. Epic fighting scenes with soldiers, monsters and also those family fights.
What more can you want in a series? Sexy and fun with a really nice, well described world that sucks you right in. Please don’t sleep on this series, you won’t regret it.
I need to find out how the stories progress! With another two books to come, I can’t wait. Thank you Astrid xx
This next installment of the Diamond City series was simply amazing. Rather than focusing on everything going on around the cities, we FINALLY get a chance for the two main characters to really get the chance to work on their relationship. Boy, was it ROUGH. There were moments of uncertainty, moments where feelings were finally clear, but sadly, there was so much anger in this book between the two of them.
The previous book was really rough. Ruby City gave them a happy ending, but have you ever wondered what happens after characters reach their HEA? That’s what Opal City gives you. We get a peak at the nitty gritty emotions when it comes to relationships. It doesn’t matter that the couple is married with children - the author wanted us to really see that regardless of all of that, they technically haven't had much time for each other.
There were lots of soft moments and a lot of painful moments, but overall the book was simply amazing. Words cannot express how much I adored it.
Relationships aside, the world-building was AMAZING in this installment! The new characters that were introduced filled me with so many different emotions. I won’t say too much about this because I really want you to enjoy it for yourself!
Everything together, I LOVED this book. As always, if you follow my book content on IG then you can see my live reactions in my highlights. I recommend the ENTIRE series, you will not regret it!
Thank you so much to the sunto for sharing a very early ARC copy of this book with me!!!
“Maybe I haven't said it enough and perhaps I should make a conscious effort to express my feelings a bit better— but I love you and only you. The problem is you and your doubts and if there's one thing that scares the hell out of me is someone who doesn't believe in me."
"That's all a bunch of bullshit that psychologists and astrologists or whatever relationship experts out there will tell you. Sometimes opposites attract, but sometimes not. I don't know if Sage and I are similar or dissimilar, but what matters is that I adore her and everything she stands for. I'd worship the very ground she walks on if she'd let me."
By this point, I think I can safely say that this author can do no wrong in my eyes. This series keep getting better and better and I become more and more obsessed with this story and these characters. After the ending of the last book, I was hoping for a moment of reprieve and peace for Sage and Damian. I was hoping for a moment of family bliss. Turns out, it is not the case. Turns out a book is better if there’s pain between the happiness, screaming between the silence and fear between the trust. What both character had to go through this time around was … intense. It made me pissed off half the time and frustrated the other half. I was happy. And then I was sad. I was angry. But then I was not. There was not one second where I felt at peace with my feelings or those of the characters. And I loved every second. It’s when you get so attached to a book, that you would rather be vexed by the those same characters’ poor choice in words and decisions than never see them again. Both of them grew up so much during this journey and I feel like they still have a lot to learn. About each other and how to live with one another. And no matter the enemy they have to face, I want to still be there with them!!!
“Damian brushed her chin with his fingers, a featherlight touch. "I am madly in love with you and I am the luckiest person on the planet to call you my wife."
"Don't run from me, my little fox," he chuckled as he pinned her completely. "Dada wants to play."
"You are my light and heart, darling," Damian whispered against her cheek. He kissed it tenderly. "You are everything I live for in this world."
“Little did they know, the Optimum was now in their pool of prisoners. And the Optimum was going to take them the fuck out”
Ever since I discovered the Diamond City series, my life has never been the same. Astrid has found her way into my head and heart, and she doesn't plan to leave. But, seriously, why would she? I don't want the story and the series to ever leave my thoughts; these characters have firmly settled in.
And every time I ask myself how this series can possibly get even better, Astrid shows me it can. Opal City is Book 4, and what a wild ride it was! I am sitting here trying to find the right words to describe this fourth instalment, and I am not sure I will do it justice. But still, let me try...
Have you ever wondered what would happen to your favourite book couple in the aftermath of HEA? Would their relationship survive all the trials and tribulations and emerge stronger? Or would it collapse under the weight of it all?
Opal City gives us those answers, and we get to see Sage and Damian navigate their relationship on a day-to-day basis. They finally got their fairytale wedding; they are happy and together, and their twins are doing great—everything should run smoothly, right? Of course not. They now have the opportunity to really get to know each other without constant dangers looming over them. They have to deal with a lot of trauma and PTSD. They have to deal with each other's insecurities and fears.
Hey, why not go and have an adventurous honeymoon? I knew Astrid wouldn't let them just relax and enjoy themselves... Amid their honeymoon, while looking for the mythical Opal City, chaos will erupt. New dangers, new species, new monsters, new enemies—everything will come for them and their loved ones.
I was glued to this book from the first to the last page; I have suffered for both Sage and Damian. My heart was broken and mended so many times I've lost count. The epic battle scenes, the monsters, the hurt, the betrayals were so emotionally brutal yet so worth it. Astrid has outdone herself and told a story of love, loss, devotion, action, crazy banter, spice, fear, adventure, utter terror and utter happiness.
Give yourself a chance and dive into this world Astrid has created; join us on this wild ride, and trust me, you will never want to leave this rollercoaster.
Opal City will gift you - Book 4 in a dystopian fantasy like no other - morally grey MMC & FMC - strong FMC & protective MMC - epic battles - betrayals & secret identities - monster fights - dysfunctional families - trauma & trauma healing - spice and lots of inappropriate jokes and a raw & honest after HEA.
In Opal City, the fourth book in Astrid Cole’s *Diamond City* series, readers are once again immersed in a thrilling blend of adventure, emotion, and rich world-building. After the “happily ever after” of *Ruby City*, Sage and Damian set off on a long-awaited honeymoon, venturing to uncover the mythical Opal City. However, what starts as a romantic getaway quickly escalates into a dangerous journey as they encounter new monsters, powerful enemies, and dark conspiracies lurking in the mysterious Outskirts.
Astrid’s storytelling expertly weaves epic battles with deeply emotional character moments (more like emotional damage to crush your soul), capturing the raw complexities of Sage and Damian’s relationship. Themes of trauma, PTSD, and mental health are explored authentically, adding a layer of depth to their bond as they confront old insecurities and the challenges of truly understanding each other. With heartfelt moments, it doesn’t shy away from showing the resilience it takes to maintain love amid hardship.
The world-building in Opal City continues to expand and blow my mind, including introducing unforgettable new characters like the enigmatic Lightbringer, as well as immersive action scenes that place readers right in the heart of the battles. Astrid’s skill in creating high-stakes adventure and emotional depth makes this installment especially gripping. For fans of heart-driven, fast-paced fantasy, Opal City is a must-read, offering a rollercoaster of emotions that leaves you eagerly awaiting the next chapter in Sage and Damian’s journey.
I LOVED this book (maybe my fave of the series but it’s so hard to choose!!!) Opal had me on the edge of my seat wanting to throw my kindle! The emotional rollercoaster Astrid Cole takes us on is intense—I swear this series will be the end of me! But also I love this series with my whole heart, and being part of the ARC team has made it even more special, giving me an amazing community to share in every twist, turn, and heart-stopping moment. I LOVE reading everyone else’s thoughts, prepping myself for the trauma (as much as you can anyways), and just sharing the love of this series!
So an extra special thank you to Astrid Cole for allowing me to be a part of your team! And to the rest of the ARC team for being just the best! 🥰❤️
ALSO the first three books are out in the world so if you haven’t read them… what the heck have you been doing!? go read them! Especially if Sci Fi, action, romance, and spice are up your alley!
***definitely spoilers!! I need to get all my thoughts out ***
Oh a nice relaxing honeymoon for Sage and Damian?… I think not! Astrid would never 😂
There seems to be recurring theme of ‘who can you trust?’ I am suspicious with any new character introduced but so is Sage so I trust her with my life
Damian wants to go challenge the Lightbringer on their honeymoon. Classic Damian They find out that Opal City is not all it’s cracked up to be, it’s a bloodbath. And of course Damian goes off on his own to murder the lightbringer impersonator Lucian… back up to his old shenanigans, just gotta kill someone!
🍓Honestly a Fruit Blows strawberry cigarette sounds like it would fix all my problems…
….Poor Ulysses! This could be an ad to stop smoking. Guess I won’t be having that strawberry cig after all. I don’t want to end up like the people of Chernobyl 😬 …
….just kidding, I don’t feel bad for Ulysses, it all makes sense now (this is a perfect example of the ride Astrid takes you on) 🍓
I love the Captitibus! Just a playful head with giant eyes throwing snowballs at Sage. I like the haiku speech too, that’s fun But the fact that the most menacing largest head is a woman scorned named Sandra… feels like she’s just a giant Karen 🤣
A lot of back and forth between Sage and Damian being insecure in their relationship and them thinking they’re not loving the other enough. I guess even hybrid human-squids have relationship problems…they’re just like us! 😂 It feels like watching reality tv “Keeping up with the Hybrids’ I love it tho! You know there’s going to be more gruesome battles so I appreciate the mundane drama
I like the parallels to Star Raider and Shadow King as well
Damian is so impulsive, they both are! Sage constantly punching people whenever they say something she doesn’t like. Damian just attacking anyone for looking at Sage. Both of them really do need therapy, and I don’t even believe in therapy!!
I also always like the contrast between Castor and Pollux; Castor is like ace and obsessed with his plane and Pollux the womanizer. When Pollux mentioned his new lady- I like age gap but 😳 I bet Sage loved that.
Now for the chaos! The naked eyeless people! Omfg what nightmare fuel!! “𝕋𝕙𝕖𝕤𝕖 𝕡𝕖𝕠𝕡𝕝𝕖 𝕨𝕚𝕥𝕙 𝕥𝕙𝕖𝕚𝕣 𝕘𝕖𝕟𝕚𝕥𝕒𝕝𝕤 𝕠𝕦𝕥 𝕚𝕟 𝕥𝕙𝕖 𝕨𝕚𝕟𝕕” 😂 Immortal eyeless corpses… nice Astrid 😝
Lucian is crap! Wtf is he doing out there with fish tanks of his blood.. creep
Lightbringer is slightly better but I still didn’t trust him. I just picture this glowing godly man floating around. But going after Sage? He must have big pockets in his robes for that audacity!
Now there’s Perfect Warriors?! I had a heart attack thinking Samson was dead, Astrid are you trying to kill me?! How much more can Sage take? I bet our girl is TIRED And my poor Charis 😭 sweet baby Angel beast
Pollux and Silas tho 😉 I’m here for that
I am thankful for it ending on a nice note because my sanity can’t take cliffhangers…but I know it’s not gonna to last.

After the devastating events in Ruby City, Sage and Damian are eager for a much-needed escape and embark on a honeymoon to the Outskirts. Their journey takes an unexpected turn when they stumble upon Opal City—a place far from the vibrant and familiar home they know. As they uncover dark secrets and hear whispers of a legendary Lightbringer, chaos erupts around them. With danger closing in and lives being lost, Sage and Damian must decide: will they flee to safety, or stay and fight for a city that isn’t theirs to save?
After the way the last book ended, you'd think Astrid would finally give them a break. But I knew it was too good to be true when the first chapter was titled Vacation. The frustration I felt from all the miscommunication, secrets, lies, betrayals, and trust issues in the first half was real. The second half, though, was a mix of hilarious moments and emotional gut-punches. Some plot twists I saw coming, and certain characters actually made Louis seem like a better person. My heart was in my throat during those last few chapters. Loved the ending, but as always, I'm scared for what's coming next—yet I can’t wait to dive in!
I can’t believe we’re already on book 4 of the Diamond City series! (Give me moreeee, please!)
I’m very grateful to @astridcolebooks for the continued opportunity to be a part of her ARC reader teams and being able to jump into each next book!
Opal City has officially kicked Emerald City of of its favourite of the series spot…I haven’t stopped thinking of this story
We have a new city to explore here and it has been amazing seeing these characters grow and Watch their stories unfold. I especially loved the mental health representation in this book and how we see Sage and Damien work through their individual trauma and watching their relationship and their love for one another.
The battle scenes are LIVING IN MY BRAIN RENT FREE! The monster fights were descriptive and immersive, I felt like I was in the battles right next to them.
@astridcolebooks you’re giving me so much pain and I’m riding on a rollercoaster with each installment! And I want so much more!
And omg the spice was SPICIN’! 🌶️🌶️🌶️🌶️
This book is definitely for you if you like: ❄️ A badass strong FMC who takes no shit ❄️ Monsters fighting ❄️ Morally grey MMC ❄️Secret identifies and ultimate betrayals
This is the fourth book in the Diamond City Series. You MUST read Diamond City, Emerald City, and Ruby City first or you’ll be so confused.
The premise is amazing. Honeymoon gone wrong. What is the worst thing that can possibly happen? Oh you have no idea.
Sage oh Sage. We now have a love hate relationship. There were times where I wanted to go through the pages and just slap the shit out of her with how she was acting. Of course she’s still a badass and has the best fight scenes. And I was so freaking proud of her at the end with how much she grew.
So before I read this book I hated Damian. Like despised him. No matter how much I tried to like him I just couldn’t because of a weird vibe I got with him. That all changed with this book. Can I morally gray man be sweet, cute, and in touch with his feelings? If so that is so Damian! I love how he treats Sage. Like she’s the queen of the whole world. And I’m proud of him too for realizing what he needs to do for his family. There was so much maturing in this book I loved it.
The side characters are just as amazing as ever. Samson is still funny AF. You get to learn a little more about the twins and their dynamic.
This is honestly the best arc I’ve read this year. You get a little bit of everything with this book! Humor, badass fights, relationship fights but also relationship mending.
It comes out June 2025 so you have plenty of time to catch up on the series before this book comes out.
Sage’s saga continues! Astrid does an amazing job of picking up the story right away in the next book and Opal City did not disappoint. A running theme that I picked up on within this book was PTSD, the complexity of relationships and mental health. A phrase that I believe many of us need to abide by that was Sage’s mantra in the book was “stop, think and respond,” which was always a good reminder to myself while reading! The overall story was full of intense adventures, battles and a close knit family who will do anything to protect everyone they love 💕 We see new characters who help and betray Sage along the way but so many familiar faces as well! Altogether, Opal City was an amazing addition to the series and the incredible storyline that is Sage and Damian ❤️🔥
Okay, remember at the end of book 3 I asked Astrid to give Sage a break ? Scratch that, let her RETIRE ! I finished this one e-xhau-sted for our fiercely loyal FMC. One word to describe this fourth installment: INTENSE. So many things can and will go wrong, you're not ready. I really like getting to know a new city and its inner workings in each book, but what a wild ride. I couldn't catch a breath for the last 25%, and I am very scared for what's coming next. We meet new creatures that we didn't even know existed, there's some betrayal, and a very vulnerable relationship between Damian and Sage. Can we get a therapist for BOTH ? Also, starting a petition to let Sage live in PEACE !
A new city brings new characters to love (or hate), new challenges, and old wounds resurfacing for Sage - along with that ever-present cloud of doubt... Just when you think this universe has hit its peak of darkness and monstrous chaos, Astrid Cole ups the ante with even bigger battles - bloody, unpredictable, and utterly gripping. 🤯🚀 Throw in Sage’s mental struggles... And Damian’s signature drama-queen moments? Seriously, they never get old!😄 Damian is walking a knife’s edge, and it’s impossible not to hold your breath for him.🙈 And Pollux? Let’s just say he’s a copy of his father.🤭😍 Thank you, Astrid Cole, for the ARC and this incredible, high-stakes adventure.🌷 This series keeps raising the bar, and I can’t wait to see where it goes next!
Opal City was definitely an interesting vibe of this series, kind of new because you have Damian and Sage being so close to happiness and trying not to deal with it; but very familiar with the idea that it’s once again Damian and Sage forced to save the world.
Lots of new interesting characters were introduced to us, not really knowing who’s for good and who’s for evil at the start (or the end) and we also got a lot of our familiar characters back!
The moonlit city Sage and Damian travel too is so beautiful and CREEPY. with its eyeless followers. But the snow monsters were cute to get to know.
Opal city also gets a chance to touch on topics like PTSD and other mental health issues that we didn’t get a chance to explore as much in previous books.
It’s SO worth the read and I’m so excited for everyone who gets to read it; MAY 2025 🩵
The ride of Emotions on this book is ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE.
I love how Astrid made us experience the best and the worst of every character. Going from loving, laughing, hating and rampaging against some situations. But seeing the grow, the process, the fights and the adorables moments with my Damianos 😏❤️🦑are Everything.
I can't wait to see what awaits Sage, Damian and the boys in the future. I'm ready to find out what Astrid will hit our hearts and heads with in the next book.
I love your work and I will be here for every book of yours, because your writing is Amazing.
I received this as an ARC and I really struggled with this review because I desperately don’t want to spoil anything. Ruby City ended on a HEA so what do we expect in this book? Well , it’s Astrid Cole so probably not the simple HEA that you hoped for. This is what comes next!
This book starts out with Damian and Sage on an expedition in the outskirts for their honeymoon. Except they have very different definitions of what they should be doing for a honeymoon and they end up neck-deep in conspiracies and drama and a whole lot of danger.
During Opal, we get to see more progression of Damian and Sage’s relationship along with continued turmoil and grief associated with decreased confidence and self-worth of both sides. As is common with these two, there are quite a few moments of miscommunication that could have been solved if they both took a breath and talked before they dove off the deep end in anger/frustration.
I really enjoyed the growth of Sage’s relationships with her sons in this book - it was nice to see them work together and the boys fight for her instead of the other way around! I loved that they were there for her and were her rock when things with Damian took a bit of a turn.
We get so many new characters in this book with the addition of a new city and region of the Outskirts and without spoilers, I’ll just say that Silas is my favorite. We meet the Lightbringer, his people, a few new monsters, and a whole lot of corruption as we work our way through this book.
As always, Astrid has me on the edge of my seat with this book and I couldn’t wait to turn the page and see what happened next! This book doesn’t release for a while but is fantastic and honestly worth the wait! Start the series now!
✨️ Opal City By Astrid Cole ✨️ ✨️ Arc ✨️ ✨️ Book 4 of the Diamond City series ✨️
✨️ my thoughts ✨️ This book is amazing, and yet what an emotional rollercoaster. Opal City is a very juicy book filled with action, adventure, and a little bit of spicy material. First off, we get another NEW city and NEW problems!! I gotta give it to Astrid on her imagination for this. She will keep you on your toes. We also get to meet new individuals and new creatures!!! I personally grew to love Charis and enjoyed the way he talked. Another thing I enjoyed was the character development! I know I've said this before, but man, Astrid REALLY knows what she was doing. The characters all play such an important role in this book! Opal City does focus on Sage and Damians' relationship a bit... let me tell you, that was rough to read. You have the bickering, doubt, and loving tenderness at times. Honestly, you will likely start to wonder things and may end up picking a side. I know I totally did!
✨️ Favorite qoute ✨️ "The dark world is here, I do not want this darkness, let the light come now. "
"I want to be with you... Forever, Darling... "
"Is it a treasonous thing to kiss someone you love?"
✨️ Favorite characters ✨️ The twins Charis Preacher
✨️ Tropes ✨️ Shes mine Soul mates Emotional scars Sorry, I'm taken
Once again, Astrid Cole has managed to write an impeccable Sci-Fi/Dystopian novel that brings allll the feels. The best way to describe this book is nostalgia. I feel like a young teenager again, reading books about crazy monsters and people with special powers. Except, these novels have more gore and action and emotion that make it perfect for 22 year old me.
As always, I am a huge Damian and Sage stan. I do think this book really showed how loyal both characters are to each other in the way that they’ve both made mistakes but instantly owned up to them and were open to improving. I love how Damian notices every little thing about Sage, especially because we see her struggle with PTSD and learn to lean on Damian.
The plot to this book was fantastic. The curiosity surrounding Opal City was an absolute head spin but the twists and reveals were so gripping. This was completely action packed with new monsters and beasts on the scene. It always amazes me how Astrid can write such crazy beasts from scratch and in a way that I’m literally picturing one in my room right now. This authors creative mind never fails to amaze me.
I did shed many many tears during this book, which is nothing new considering I sobbed through all of Emerald and Ruby. Here’s to hoping that Tourmaline City brings happy vibes :)
This might just be my fav book in the series! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
The Characters: So much happened, with so many crazy twists and exciting new battles. You never expected what was coming, and it was so fun to see how Sage handled it all. I loved how Castor and Pollux were more in the spotlight in this too! Hamilton is still the funniest—I love how he runs the shop and sticks to business (as a dog) 😂Also, Preacher has become one of my favs 👏🏼 he’s awesome. This series does a great job of making memorable characters who you are so invested in.
The Theme: Some main themes of this book are PTSD and mental health 🫶🏼 it dives into how even the strongest people can break down, and how it’s okay to admit that you need help. I loved how Sage & Damian dealt with this together!
My Thoughts: In the beginning I was bugged with Sage for how she treated Damian, but I liked to see how over time their relationship got better and they learned how to communicate in healthier ways. I also just loved how action-packed this book was! So many enemies to take on, with some setting things up for the next book. The world-building keeps expanding with every book too which has been fun to see! I’ve loved reading this series and can’t wait to see where it goes!!! Dare I say Tourmaline?! 🫢
⚠️ 🌶️🌶️🌶️ Ch. 2 & 11. Jokes and innuendos throughout, as well as explicit language
Omg so we're back again! Sage and Damian are adventuring once more, but this time, they're on their honeymoon!
Opal City picks up right where Ruby City leaves off. Our dynamic duo are in the outskirts, in search of Opal City and the Lightbringer! Only, everything is not as it seems in the city, and things are a bit different than Damian had thought.
We get introduced to new characters, terrifying monsters, and haiku speaking creatures that I now find myself having a soft spot for. 😂 I really feel like the fast paced, high intensity action in this one kept me on the edge of my seat!
I really love that we got to have some one on one time for Sage and Damian as well, just like any married couple with kids who've been through some serious trauma, they go through struggles in their relationship. But through that all, we never see either of them waver in their love for one another. Damian is more protective than ever. I feel like we really got to see his character growth shine here.
And Castor and Pollux. 🥹 Ahh, I am so pleased to get to see more of them now as adults and witness their love for their parents! These boys are so much like them, it had me chuckling at certain moments. But it really seems like Damian did a wonderful job raising them while Sage had been in hibernation!
I can tell the next couple of books are about to get WILD. And I'm ready for the ride!!
Opal City is the 4th book in the Diamond City series and man… if you’ve made it this far in the series then buckle up! It was filled with angst, heartache, growth and some laughs sprinkled in.
⚔️ epic fight scenes 🏰 sci-fi/fantasy 💪 strong FMC and MMC ⛰️ adventure ❤️ true love 🌎 amazing world building of a new city 🫣 monsters 🌶️ spice
The things that come from Astrid’s mind never ceases to amaze me and you can’t help but get sucked in to the new adventure that Damien, Sage and the twins get themselves into by choice or not. We meet new character and some you will like and some not so much. This family will absolutely do ANYTHING for each other
After Sage and Damien got married, they went on their honeymoon in search of a mystical city that they wanted to find for certain reasons. In true Astrid fashion there are incredible monsters and battles and getting to know Castor and Pollux. I found myself sitting in my couch waving my arms around as if I was the one holding the sword (don’t judge me) Sage shows some vulnerability and is struggling with ptsd (can you blame her) while also having some trust issues toward Damien. Damien is struggling as well and has a few bouts of anger but by the end he is working on it and you can truly see a shift in his attitude.
Opal City was the absolute calm before the storm. After too many years of fighting, Sage has finally earned the right to a long vacation. Still expecting the worst, and, not knowing anything other than war, perhaps searching for it, Damian and Sage embark on a honeymoon of their dreams. Everything was wonderful. Too wonderful to last.
The calm was pierced with many worries and familiar darkness lurking beneath their skins. Then came the rain.
Soon, they were facing monster fights and new enemies on their quest to reach and discover the legendary Opal City and their enchanting leader, the Lightbringer. That was the rain. Then, the true storm came.
And so, Sage is once again dragged into violent matters, fighting for the umpteenth time to unravel the truth. She needs to find the real Lightbringer, then the true villain, and bring justice to the deserving. On her path, there are many enemies. This time, the biggest one is threatening from her and Damian's mind. Who will be victorious when friends, allies, and enemies are the same people? That's the true question.
This book I knew would be amazing because I mean come on it’s Astrid Cole ladies and gentlemen but astrid completely blew me away with her depth of this book. There is battle and war in this book no doubt but I absolutely loved how more detailed Astrid was in Opal City. There was more story and depth to each character, I felt I learned more and more in this book.
I feel for sage on such a deep level and I relate to her more than i’d like to admit and her relationship with Damian in this book made me reflect sooo much on my own. The way sage expresses herself and the viper words she uses in her marriage was a nice little reflection on how I should improve on myself in my own marriage. I no doubt love Damian but I truly felt for him on a deeper level in this book. A man who would fight the world and fight the deepest depths of his soul to prove to a woman he LOVES her even when she is a broken Optimum.
We meet and quite frankly yes you will fall in love with new characters, light bringer i’m talking to you (;
There is no perfect way to review any book without a few spoilers but this make gave me the happy ending my sage deserves… for now because in true Astrid form i’m sure this isn’t the end ♥️♥️
Opal City is the fourth instalment in the Diamond City series, and just like the first three books, it’s a wild and emotional journey.
There’s more world building, adventures, action, and battles. You also get to see more of the characters internal struggles, loyalty, and love towards one another. I think that was one of my favourite things about this book, as I have truly enjoyed watching each of them grow in their own way, and seeing the love they have for each other through it all.
This book definitely feels a little different from the others, but you can still expect banter, monsters, fights, mental health awareness, and nerve wrecking moments. Astrid has a way of just keeping you at the edge of your seat. So buckle up, and enjoy the ride!
A big THANK YOU to Astrid for having me on your ARC team, and trusting me with a copy of your book.🤍
I’m excited to see how the story continues, but also nervous because I have a feeling a storm is coming!😅⛈️ *𝘪𝘯𝘴𝘦𝘳𝘵 𝘈𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘥’𝘴 😇😇😇 𝘳𝘦𝘱𝘭𝘺 𝘩𝘦𝘳𝘦*
Book four of the Diamond City series picks up shortly after the end of Ruby City. Sage and Damian are having their wonderful honeymoon where they are in outskirts of the known civilization. As expected, the world expands and we are introduced to the history, lore, power and people of Opal City. We get to know about the rumoured Light Bringer and how he is in need of the Opitimum. But beyond that, we get to see how all these years have finally caught up with Sage and now is suffering from PTSD. Damian has trauma of his own which is very well explored in the storyline. Seeing their relationship grow and how they are understanding each other has been so beautiful. I love that we are able to get more of the boys and their personalities. I really enjoy their family dynamics. Of course we get the epic battle scenes ans sci-fi elements are amazing. But the character growth of emotional stable Sage and Damian who worships the ground she walks is swoon worthy.
Astrid! This one was my favorite of the Diamond City series so far! I love our girl Sage, and seeing her finally get her shot at a happily ever after with her man had me tickled pink. They've been fighting for so long, and I honestly was worried for their relationship. Opal proved that there is strength in freedom, and there is passion in choice. When faced with life-altering decisions, Sage never failed to put others first, even at her own cost. Her family is her center, and her friends are their glue. Meeting new faces and revisiting old favorites was like coming home. Everything's finally working out for our pizza-loving warrior... which is why that ending HURT. I have SO MANY questions about that plot twist and where it will lead us in the next story. Astrid, I'd read your grocery list with a smile, but I need for Sage to end up whole and safe after a long and happy life. My heart can't handle it.
This book took me on a thrilling journey through the glittering streets of Opal City.
Was extremely happy to have read this along with @ and @‘
What truly stood out was Damian’s transformation. Watching him confront his flaws, step out of the shadows of his past, and grow into someone stronger, yet undeniably true to himself, was deeply inspiring. His journey reminded me that even amidst chaos, self-improvement is always possible.
And let’s talk about Sage. Her strength and subtle influence shaped so many pivotal moments, proving she’s a character to be reckoned with and being a bad ass Optimum.
Astrid Cole’s world-building was dazzling, and the blend of action, heart, and just the right touch of romance and spice kept me hooked. If you’re looking for a book that makes you feel, root for the characters, and believe in second chances, this one’s for you!
✨ Favorite theme: Growth isn’t linear, but every step counts.
I was lucky enough to receive this as an ARC, and wow, this book was just as incredible and well written as the rest of the books in this series!
I genuinely can say I absolutely love Sage and Damian and their relationship so much... I love how they love each other, how they protect each other, and fight each other (it shows its ok to not be perfect).
I love the twins! I love Samson and his awkwardness despite the fact that he could easily destroy everyone and everything.
I think by far Opal has to be my favourite of this series, I love that it shows the complexity of PTSD and mental health and the self awareness that both Sage and Damian have (more so Damian) that they need help and that it is perfectly okay to not be okay and seek help.
Absolutely would recommend this book! Thank you, Astrid, for letting me read this !
Oh man Sage really just can’t ever catch a break and honestly I relate so hard lol this is the 4th book in this series and it is my favorite book yet. I absolutely love getting to know Pollux and Castor better and I adore them both so much. I also love how Damian and Sages relationship is so real, they fight, they make up, they have real life issues and I love it! I don’t want to spoil anything because you should 100% experiences this book firsthand to understand just how chaotic and incredibly captivating it is. From the start you are on an adventure with Sage and Damian but much like anything in their lives the fun is always short lived. These books have it all spice, action, devastation, humor, badass characters, found family, and so much more. If you haven’t dove into the diamond city universe idk what you are waiting for!
This might be my second favourite from the series. I was literally hooked from the first page. We got to see a new city and it is crazy af!! I’m talking crazy scary monster, cult, gang, drugs and talk about immortality after the nuclear war!!
I was mind-blowing with the world building!! It was so good! Love that we got to see more of Pollux and Castor in this one! Also, I don’t think I can hate Damian because he is one of my favourite book boyfriend this year. Love our King. I’m really excited to see where the story will lead next.
This series is really unique and if you love dystopian and sci-fi with badass FMC check it out.
