Fiona Leitch’s latest cozy mystery in The Nosey Parker Mysteries series is The Cornish Campsite Murder. The author mixes a murder mystery with a police investigation in a twisty plot. This seventh book in the series is infused with excellent world-building, compelling characters, and a well-written story that kept me turning the pages.

Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker has moved back to her home town of Penstowan in Cornwall after leaving the London metropolitan police force. She has retrained as a caterer. However, this weekend she and Detective Chief Inspector Nathan Withers are running a food truck at a music and surfing festival for a friend. Josie witnesses a heated discussion between members of a band and later that night, she, Nathan, and friend Debbie, find a body on the beach.

There are some books where it feels like readers are catching up with old friends. This is one of those series. Jodie’s sense of humor and warmth continues to shine in this story. She is a likeable and friendly character with a need to investigate that I continued to connect with. While she loves music and going to concerts, she doesn’t like some of the accommodations at festivals. The secondary characters continue to develop. In this case, we saw more growth in Nathan, mom Shirley, and daughter Daisy. The chemistry between Nathan and Jodie creates a fun dynamic. Their Pomeranian Germaine continues to add cuteness and stress relief at various times. Instead of only quaint characters, this cozy has several realistic characters that add to the depth of the story.

This well-plotted story draws readers in and doesn’t let go until the final word in the book. The small-town atmosphere of the series was expanded in this one with the festival being held near the town and bringing in several new characters. The story had several twists, a few red herrings, and a surprise near the end. However, the murderer was too predictable. As always, having a sleuth that isn’t an amateur continues to bring depth to the novel that can be lacking in some cozy mysteries

Overall, this is an entertaining story that quickly drew me into Jodie’s world. It was a fun, appealing, and delightful read with a solid mystery to unravel and humor sprinkled throughout. Themes include friendship, family relationships, family, murder, greed, trust, addiction, and much more. Relationships continue to play a major role in this series. A recipe is included at the end of the book.

I recommend the novel to those that enjoy the genre. It was a fun and relaxing read and I can’t wait for the next book featuring Jodie and her family and friends. For more enjoyment, the books are best read in order, but this can be read as a standalone.

HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter and Fiona Leitch provided a complimentary digital ARC of this novel via NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions expressed in this review are my own. Publication date is currently set for June 28, 2024. This review was originally posted at Mystery and Suspense Magazine.

My new favorite of one of my go-to Cozy Mystery series. This was so much fun. At this point, this cast of characters feels like a part of my friend group. I adore them all.

These books follow Jodie Parker, who resigned from the Metropolitan Police in London after a close call and returned to her native village of Penstowan, in Cornwall, with her teen daughter, Daisy, and their Pomeranian, Germaine.

Jodie opened her own catering company, but old habits are hard to break. She's ended up helping the local police with a few challenging cases. In fact, she's now in a relationship with the handsome DCI, Nathan Winters.

In this installment, Jodie agrees to help a friend by taking his catering van, Pie Hard, for a weekend at a local music festival. The friend makes a killing that weekend, but this particular year he can't make the event, so Jodie offers to run the van for him.

Nathan takes time off work to join her, and Daisy had already want to go for the weekend with some girlfriends. Then, you know, Jodie's Mom will want to go too, so she rents a posh yurt on site with one of her friends.

The mystery involves a once famous singer being found dead on the beach on the second day of the festival. Jodie had actually witnessed him getting into an argument with some of his former bandmates the night before.

Could one of them be responsible for his death?

Even though he is on vacation, Nathan of course begins to loosely oversee the investigation. And surely, Jodie isn't going to keep her nose out of it.

This is a classic whodunit-style of Cozy and I had so much fun with it. I love stories featuring musicians, and this one, set at a music festival, was perfectly catered ((pun-intended)) to my tastes.

I can't recommend this series enough to other Cozy Mystery Readers. Particularly, if you enjoy stories with a fun family dynamic, or small town setting.

I truly adore this cast of characters. Jodie's family, her Mom and daughter, and even little floof-ball, Germaine, bring so much humor and light-heartedness to these stories. It's an absolute joy to read. Also, it has just the right amount of humor for my tastes.

It doesn't take itself too seriously, but it's still incredibly well-written, paced and plotted. Fiona Leitch is a gem. I am really hoping for more in this series.

Thank you so much to the publisher, One More Chapter, for providing me a copy to read and review. I can't wait to hear if there will be more books coming!

Another enjoyable episode in the life of Jodie (Nosey) Parker, committed part time sleuth and her partner, D.C.I Nathan Withers. This time they are supposed to be taking a few days off to help out a friend by selling pies at a Surf and Music Festival.

Selling the pies should be a full time job but luckily they have friends and family there to cover for them when they are drawn into the investigation of a murder. It was a very involved mystery which I lost track of very quickly but to be honest I was reading it on a plane very late at night so probably was not able to give it my full concentration.

Still I know I enjoyed it all, especially the banter between Jodie/Nathan and Jodie/Daisy (her teenage daughter). Germaine the dog was delightful too. Looking forward to book eight!

The Cornish Campsite Murder is yet another confirmation of Fiona Leitch talent to write a good, enjoyable and engaging cosy mystery.

Jodie Parker, our caterer, and her fiancé, DI Nathan Withers are on holiday, but to help a friend they go to a musical festival to replace him selling his pies. They are busy selling food for the party goers' souls and having a good time with their friends and family, until a body resurfaces on the shore and they have to go back to their first job Nathan as a DI and Jodie as an amateur sleuth.

I like this series. The characters are funny and chaotic, they have some true and genuine relationships that always put me in a good mood.
In this installment I have noticed that Jodie seems less nosey, maybe because Nathan lets her snooping around trusting her intuition. They have built a solid relationship, becoming such a tightly-knit and enviable couple.

I would totally recommend reading this book.

(3.25/5 stars) This is my fourth Nosey Parker mystery novel and I would say that it's not quite my favorite (I managed to guess who the killer was pretty early and was proven right), but it's still a good cozy mystery. I keep coming back because the stories threaded throughout the series are just too nice and I enjoy the characters enough to keep reading. They're all so likeable!

"A Cornish Campsite Murder” the 7th instalment in The Nosey Parker Cozy Mystery series by Fiona Leitch. I cannot get enough of this series, if you love mysteries set in England this is for you!

I love visiting Cornwall and Jodie, Daisy, and her mum but let’s not forget about Germaine the Pomeranian! This time we are attending the annual music festival with it seems like the whole family and friends in one capacity or another. I like where Jodie’s relationship with Nathan is going and the dynamics between him and Daisy as well as Jodie’s mum.

The mystery was really interesting, well plotted, and had just enough twists to keep you engrossed and wanting to know what happens next. I really hope there will be a book 8 coming out soon, as I can’t get enough of this series.

I recommend this book to all my cozy lover friends.

I requested and received an Advanced Readers Copy from Harper Collins UK. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

I binged the first six of these books a while back and had so much fun with this cosy mystery series, with Jodie 'Nosy' Parker, the ex-cop turned caterer who can't help but get involved in the investigations for the local murders. It's obviously in the blood with her father having been pretty high up in the forces, too.
This time, Jodie and her partner, Nathan, a DI, are operating a catering van for a friend at a festival. The only crimes should be how many pies people are eating, Jodie trying to keep an eye on her teenage daughter, with all the drugs flying around.
But that wouldn't be a Cornish mystery, would it?
Playing at the festival is one of Jodie's teen idol bands, and once she gets over her fangirling moment, she's knee-deep in another investigation, as an ex-band member is found dead.
Is it murder or an unfortunate accident?
Well, I shan't tell you because what would be the point of your reading the book?
But it was fantastic to be back with Jodie and the crew, including her daughter and mother, and their dog, as they spent the weekend slumming it (Unless, like Jodie's mum, you were in a luxury yurt!) experiencing festival life, as well as investigating said death.
Again, Fiona, you made me hungry with the food you described!
It's a brilliant addition to the series, and I hope we hear more from Jodie and her crime-busting!
Many thanks to NetGalley and Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter for an ARC.

Anyone who has ever read a British mystery or watched one on-screen knows that if there is a festival, a village fete or a jumble sale for that matter, a body is bound to turn up. Fiona Leitch’s The Cornish Campsite Murder, the sixth installment of her Nosey Parker Mysteries, is no exception.

Former Met police detective Jodie Parker and her betrothed, DI Nathan Withers, are helping out a friend, manning a Cornish pie van called Pie Hard for a camp-out weekend music festival, just down the coast from her home in the fictional Penstowan.

I liked Jodie from the start — her sense of humor, her family and her detective’s curiosity. In The Cornish Campsite Murder, a body of a former lead band member of one of Jodie’s favorites is found by the beach and her teen idol is one of the prime suspects.

I could relate to the universal feeling of actually getting to meet/speak to your teen idol and fearing they won’t live up to your expectations or if they do, that you’ll make a fool of yourself. But what if they are murderers? Jodie and Nathan solve the crime with a little help from their family and friends at the festival.

Fiona Leitch offers a humorous mystery with some fun twists, a host of colorful characters and a satisfying ending. What more could you ask for in a summer read? How about a recipe for a leek and sausage pie at the end of the book? (Having enjoyed a leek and potato pasty on a train ride from Cornwall to London, the Pie Hard’s Die Hard-themed pies sounded both delicious and a little adventuresome. I can’t wait to return for another authentic Cornish pie.)

I highly recommend The Cornish Campsite Murder for British cozy mystery fans, humorous mystery fans and beach readers. This one fits the bill for all of the above.

Mobile caterer Josie 'Nosey' Parker doesn't like festivals. The music and atmosphere are great but don't get her started on the accommodations, and the toilets? Eww, disgusting! So why is she running a friend's food truck at Wave Masters just outside Penstowan? Maybe it's because daughter Daisy is experiencing everything festival for the first time, mum Shirley is there with a new friend, and it means she can enjoy an uninterrupted weekend with her police detective fiance, Nathan!

Things get far more interesting when Josie witnesses a bust up between members of one of the bands, but discovering a body definitely wasn't on her menu, especially as Nathan's holiday seems likely to be seriously curtailed! As clues and accusations fly, it isn't long before she's helping the police with their enquiries, but thankfully, from the right side!  With a cold case and missing witnesses adding to her problems, can Josie discover the killer before everyone packs up and moves on?

Book seven in this heartwarming, funny, and thrilling series is another brilliant outing into the life of main protagonist, ex-detective Josie Parker, and the wonderful Cornish countryside. With an investigation full of the twists and turns I've come to expect and fun new characters to read about it was still her mum and daughter who threatened to steal the show and the family dynamic was as enjoyable as ever.

I was able to read an advanced copy of this book thanks to NetGalley and the publishers, Harper Collins UK, but the opinions expressed are my own. I thoroughly enjoyed this, and with a further instalment due out next year, this is a great series that never disappoints.

Just along the coast from Penstowan, the local festival has filled the area. Former Met police officer Jodie ‘Nosey’ Parker has agreed to step in and help run the Pie Hard food truck, along with her rather reluctant fiancé, DCI Nathan Withers. As they prepare for a weekend of camping and being elbow deep in shortcrust pastry, Jodie hadn’t bargained on witnessing a fight between members of the lead band. But when the body of one of the band members is found not far from the campsite, Jodie finds it hard to believe it was an accident.
Jodie is back for her seventh outing & she along with Nathan, mum Shirley, daughter Daisy & her close friends not to forget Germaine the pomeranian are spending the weekend at the local festival. I love Jodie & love how her relationship with Nathan has grown & deepened, I also love her relationship with her mum & daughter. There are a limited number of suspects but plenty of twists, turns & red herrings plus some fan girl moments. I do love this series & highly recommend all the books

Jodie 'Nosey' Parker, ex-police officer, is persuaded to run a friend's food truck at a music festival in Cornwall. When the lead singer of an old rock group is found dead Jodie can't help but get involved in the investigation.

The Cornish Campsite Murder is the seventh book in the Nosey Parker cozy crime series by author Fiona Leitch. I've long been a fan of this series and feel as if the characters have become friends, having seen them evolve over the series.

Jodie is astounded to discover that a recent dinner she catered was hosted by Caz Harper, the bassist of a rock group she idolised as a teen. Caz, along with some of the other members of the band, have decided to perform at the local music festival. The group are unable to use their original name or much of their old material following an acrimonious split with the band's lead singer, Lee Roskill.

When Roskill's body is discovered the following morning the remaining members of the group immediately become suspects. Each of them has an alibi but as the police, well Jodie and her fiance DCI Nathan Withers, investigate, the alibi's begin to crumble. Having worked as a consultant for the local police in the previous book, Jodie had decided it really didn't work, particularly with her boss also being her fiance. As we learn as the story progresses, Jodie finds it impossible not to get involved with the investigation. Nathan is just as bad as he's supposed to be on holiday.

Initially, it is assumed that the motive for murder is the fall-out of the band members. The investigation points to other possible motives, motives which have been festering for years and still put the other band members at the top of the suspect list. By chipping away at each person's alibi, and a tense stand-off, the murderer is apprehended. I'm now looking forward to the next installment of this cozy crime series.

One of my few criticisms of the previous book in the series was that we didn't see enough of the supporting characters. This time around they all have a part to play in the investigation, although Debbie's usual effervescent self isn't used fully. The supporting character that shines the most this time around is Germaine, the dog.

I think that this book has been the best of a really great series so far. Ex policewoman Jodie “Nosey”
Parker and her policeman fiancée are helping a friend by manning his Die Hard themed pie truck at a local festival. By chance her mother is also there in a glamping yurt with her new bff and her daughter is camping with the masses watching local and National talent.

By chance a band that Jodie idolised in her teenage years are taking the stage with the lead singer rejoining them for the first time in many years. Sadly before that he pulls out and the other band members are pushed down the billing, not long before the singer is found dead on a local beach.

Of course Nosey Parker is not able to keep out of the thick of the investigation and helps the police solve the crime.

Great writing, lots of humour and brilliant characters which have been growing in appeal since book 1 in the series. The descriptions of the cast and the area and spot on and I can’t wait for the next instalment.

The Cornish Campsite Murder is the seventh Nosey Parker mystery by Fiona Leitch. Released 9th Dec 2021 by Harper Collins on their One More Chapter imprint, it's 267 pages and is available in paperback, audio, and ebook formats. It's worth noting that the ebook format has a handy interactive table of contents as well as interactive links and references throughout.

This is a very well written, whimsical, and appealing cozy series with a caterer as a former-police-inspector protagonist along with her ragtag catering assistants/family and geriatric (inherited) Pomeranian, Germaine. This installment sees Jodie, Nathan, et. al solving the murder of a body found on the beach during a festival. The mystery is well constructed and the characters are well rendered and believable. It's a cozy, with lots of silly dialogue and was an enjoyable, diverting read.

The ensemble cast continues to develop, and the author does a good job with their interrelationships, dialogue, back-story, and setting. Each book feels like a visit with the cast of characters. It works well enough as a standalone, but readers should be aware that they develop over the course of the series, and minor spoilers should be expected if read out of order. Germaine is as adorable as ever, however.

Although it's the seventh book in the series, necessary info is deftly provided, and the mystery and denouement are self contained and satisfying. There are 7 books extant in the series now, with an 8th due out in 2025 from the same publisher, so it would make a good candidate for a long weekend binge/buddy read. There's a whole subgenre with caterers-as-sleuths and this is one of the better ones.

Four stars.

Disclosure: I received an ARC at no cost from the author/publisher for review purposes.

Caterer and former Met police officer Jodie "Nosey" Parker and her fiance, DCI Nathan Withers, reluctantly agree to help run a food truck at a multi-day seaside music festival. Jodie's almost 16-year-old daughter and her mother are along as well. When a member of the headlining band dies under suspicious circumstances, Jodie and Nathan are thrust into an investigation to find the culprit.

This is one of my favorite cozy mystery series. And Leitch delivers another well-plotted, quirky, intriguing mystery with great characters and witty dialogue.

A closed-circle mystery, the music festival campsite was an interesting setting. It presented a few challenges to the investigation and to Jodie as a parent, as her teenage daughter was attending the festival. Leitch shows Jodie juggling and thinking about her many roles: mother, romantic partner, daughter, caterer, and sleuth, making her relatable. Jodie's internal monologues offer observations that are insightful and witty. Jodie and the recurring characters are warm and welcoming, and her mother is a hoot! I love spending time in Cornwall with them.

I also enjoy the dynamic between Jodie and Nathan. Their partnership is refreshing as Jodie works with law enforcement and is part of the official investigation in an auxiliary manner. They complement each other well, sharing light-hearted banter and sweet chemistry. Because of Jodie and Nathan's professional backgrounds, there's also a nice dash of procedural mixed into this story while remaining cozy. This was great fun and kept me turning the pages. I can't wait for the next one!

I always look forward to a new book in the Nosey Parker series and this latest adventure for Josie and her fiancé, DI Nathan Withers did not disappoint. This time Josie is doing a favour for a friend and running a pie truck at the local music festival. She has dragged Nathan along as he is on leave. Naturally a murder occurs and Nathan has to investigate.
Josie is no longer part of the police force and so her personal life takes a larger part in this book which I enjoyed. She has concerns about a new friend who seems to be taking up a lot of her mother’s time as well as dealing with a teenager who wants more independence than Josie is willing to give. As the festival is local, many of the characters from previous books are present in this one and the cheerful dialogue between them provides a lot of the humour in the book.
The festival is well presented and as always, the coastal setting is an important part of the story rather than just being a pretty backdrop. I enjoyed the plot which centred on the death of a middle aged musician who was in dispute with his old bandmates.
This was a really enjoyable read and I look forward to the next adventure for Josie and Nathan.
Thsnks as always to Net Galley and the publishers, One More Chapter, for allowing me to read this ARC in exchange for my honest review.

The Nosey Parker Series #7

Just along the coast from Penstowan, the local festival has filled the area. Former Met. I'm loving this cosy murder mystery series. Jodie and her fiancé, DCI Nathan Withers, help a friend run the Pie Hard food truck at a music festival. We know that wherever Jodie is, a murder takes place, and this time it's a member of the lead band playing at the festival who dies. Jodie's daughter is attending her first festival, and Jodie wants to keep an eye on her. But it's the argument between she was keeping an eye on. This book has a well-thought-out plot, it's filled with twists, and it held my attention throughout.

Caterer and former detective Jodie Parker and her partner DI Nathan Withers were supposed to be on holiday in Paris, but instead find themselves offering to help out a friend by manning his pie van at a three day surf and music festival near their home town in Cornwall. Jodie’s mother and her teenage daughter as well as a host of her friends will be at the festival and she hopes she and Nathan will get some time off from baking and selling pies to also enjoy it. She is particularly delighted to discover that a rock group she loved as a teenager is performing. However, when an ex-member of the band is found dead on the beach Nathan is roped into the investigation and Jodie can’t help but do some sleuthing of her own.

This is a fun cosy series with plenty of humour and a group of delightful characters, including a cute fluffy dog. The police must not only hunt for the murderer before the festival finishes and everyone disperses but also find the motive by re-examining events from the past. Some good twists keep the plot interesting.

The Cornish Campsite Murder whisked me away to a lively Cornish music festival where Jodie and her fiancé, DCI Nathan Withers, find themselves at the heart of a murder investigation when a former rock star is found dead. Having the opportunity to witness the festival atmosphere through Jodie's eyes, with its food trucks, band dynamics, and colourful characters, was a real treat.
I quickly became invested in the mystery surrounding the rock star's death. While familiar with the series' recurring characters, this instalment provided enough backstory to stand on its own. I particularly enjoyed the humorous banter between Jodie and Nathan, and the portrayal of their close-knit family dynamic added warmth to the narrative.
Solving the mystery's resolution is somewhat predictable, but I was pleasantly surprised by a few unexpected twists. The investigation unfolds at a steady pace, dropping clues and introducing red herrings, which kept me engaged until the very end. If you're looking for a light-hearted yet engaging cosy mystery with a charming cast of characters, I highly recommend giving "The Cornish Campsite Murder" a try!

This is my second 'Nosey Parker' mystery and I enjoyed it so much that I'll be back reading all the other books to catch up!
The thing I love most about this series is the sense of humour woven throughout all the dialogue. (Especially the recipe and authors note at the end!)
Jodie is a fantastic character and I like how the author has broken moulds with her not quite conforming to a host of cliches.
The whole story wraps up within a few days with the exception of the epilogue or last chapter. It is a slow paced book but a lot is packed into it. It revolves around a music festival atmosphere and is quite novel.
There was a point that I knew exactly whodunnit quite early on due to a witness in one of the tents and am surprised that the characters didn't consider it earlier. Must have been too pie-drunk!
All in all, a great installment and if I had known that the author spit them out at such fast intervals, I would have looked for the second one a lot sooner.
Thanks to Netgalley and the author and publisher for a temporary copy in exchange for an honest review.

This time Jodie Parker and her boyfriend DCI Nathan Withers are helping out a friend by running a pie van at a local music festival. A body naturally turns up - this is a cozy mystery after all - which they both end up investigating whether this was an accident or a murder (why do I always hear the latter in a Taggert voice?)
Part of the enjoyment for me when reading a cozy mystery, or indeed any book, is the interplay between the characters, which this one does so well. It's probably over 50 years since I went to a music festival (by coincidence it was also in Cornwall, but Hawkwind were the headliners) but I'm not sure I could cope with going to one now. The atmosphere was really brought to life and there were plenty of twists and turns whilst they were deciding whether it was an accident or, if it was a murder, who did it. A very worthy cozy mystery that can be read as a standalone, but I'd strongly recommend reading all the books in the series.
I received an advance copy of this book from the publisher through Netgalley, however this did not influence my review of the book.
