"The Bride's Unknown Legacy" is a historical romance novel of approximately 80,000 words. No cheating, no cliffhangers, and a guaranteed happily ever after.
Carson Galloway is 32 years old and never been in love. He would dearly like to marry and have children, but he doesn't think anyone will want him. Carson is a blacksmith, having learned from a good friend. His teacher was working the forge when there was an explosion. Carson tried his best to save him and was severely burned, and his friend died. Carson carries painful scars oner his neck, chest and back. He is also 6'5", a huge, muscled man with a soft heart. Elsie Mays is 22 years old, the daughter of a very rich man who wants her to marry his business partner so they can be richer. He told Elsie that her mother and, her brother died in a carriage accident which is a lie. Henry was born with half a left leg and damaged hand, and their father didn't want that to reflect on him, so he sent them away. Carson posted a mail order bride ad but never expected anyone to reply. Elsie did reply, so she could search for her mother and brother. Elsie and Carson's story is so twisted and complicated, but it is a tale of learning to trust and love. i thoroughly enjoyed this book!
KU read This was fine. It got a little bit tv-drama in there and the end was super rushed, but it wasnt terrible. I found the bit with the Dad at the end a bit much- very Bond villan- with revealing all your secrets and motivations and what not. Stangely my gripe is that C was pretty open about sharing his feelings with his friend J and I just dont think that's particularly period/place acurate- but maybe Im wrong. And then this was a story with a lot of tell but not show. Yes we hear that E is strong willed, but never FEEL her intention.
I throughly enjoyed this book. Elsie left her father's home for two reasons she wanted to avoid a force marriage to a man she did not like and she wanted to know what happened to her mother and brother. Does she find out what happened and does she advocate the marriage you will have to grab this well written wonderful fill character book to find out.
When Elsie hears her Dad's plan to marry her off to a rich man 15 years older than her just to combine his wealth with the wealth of the other man , she decides to leave home. She replies to a mail order bride ad and goes to Wyoming to marry a man of her choosing and to find her mother and younger brother. This really is a very good story.
Typos and inconsistencies. Elsie wrote her dad a letter that she was looking for her mother and little brother, then later she is glad she hadn't let him know. Carson had been seen at the forge with his shirt off, but then no only Jacob had ever seen his scars. Jacob referred to as Jason. Sweet story overall but the missing words and inconsistencies were distracting.
As soon as I saw the name Elsie Mays in the opening chapter of this book I knew I had to read it. Mays is my maiden name and I was enthralled to read a story , although fiction, about someone I could have been related to. Elsie and Carson had a beautiful relationship and I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of the book.
We were driving through town and I came to the end of the story where we learned who was still alive! When I read it, I hollered out they're alive they're alive!! LOL scared him half to death and I had to explain because he wasn't sure what I was talking about! LOL good story!
I loved this story line. So much heart ache on them both, to find each other and the love they deserved. So glad that she found her mom and brother too.
This was so well written that I could feel what she felt. She was strong but also compassionate. His gentle ways won her heart. Loved this book so much.
