Rate this book
Can love flourish amid expectations, dishonesty, and duty?

Naomi Hendrix is seeking a fresh start in the small rural town of Oak Mountain, Maryland. As the town’s new veterinarian, she is rebuilding her life after a painful divorce and betrayal by her former neighbors. However, her mentor, Walter, warns her about the Beckett family, sowing fear they could destroy her growing business.

Logan Beckett, a single dad, is eager to break free from his father’s shadow, and is determined to pave his own way. Juggling to balance managing his family’s rescue operation and raising his 11-year-old daughter, romance is the last thing on his mind. When Logan crosses paths with Naomi, sparks ignite, but Walter’s poisoned words marred their connection.

While assisting with a rescue during a violent storm, Naomi finds herself stranded at Hawkins Ridge. Her time with the Becketts, she experiences the family’s genuine compassion and uncovers the truth behind Walter’s dislike.

Can Naomi and Logan discover true love and conquer even the most sinister betrayal? In a setting where family ties, loyalty and animal rescue intersect, you're invited to visit Hawkins Ridge Sanctuary.

Absolutely loved it!

I absolutely loved this book from the way they first meet to the happily ever after. It is inspiring, encouraging and entertaining. I really appreciate the diversity of the characters and they are well developed in this book. And I love the multiple relationships that were developing. From a new love, to the closeness of a mother and daughter, to the bond of a single dad and daughter, to the love and support of family. In addition to the romance, there is the love for the animals. This is a wonderful feel good story on many levels! I can’t wait until the next book comes out.

Don't know if it qualifies as a romance?

Slow burn. No steam. Interesting characters and world building. Maybe too much world building and not enough romance because I skimmed a lot and there was more info about the town and the pets and past drama than actual romance between the two leads. The leads were nice, decent people although I would have liked more about her and not just in reaction to him.

I really want to give this a higher score, because it has a really sweet story, but this isn't a final novel, this is a second draft. It's rice with editing errors, and the author seriously needed to be reigned in in certain places. I love animals but by 35% of the way through the book I was convinced the dogs were the main characters. And there are so many dogs and people to keep track of I felt like I needed a chart. Anyway it's a sweet book, but not really great.

3/5 STARS! Animal lovers will really enjoy this. A cute love story, adorable sounding animals, diverse characters, & a unique setting, I really had a good time with this. Only thing that drove me nuts was the editing errors (still didn't ruin the story though). Overall, this introduced a cool place and brought me into a family I ended up loving. Definitely going to read the next one.

puppy love and a second chance

Loved this sweet romance. While of course Logan and Naomi were adorable together, I honestly got an absurd amount of joy from the animal index at the beginning. Truly, I enjoyed the intentional depth that this new-to-me author gave to the characters, not shying away from including major differences and messy lives. Excited to read more!

A sweet tale

There are a lot mod characters and dogs to keep.uomwith, but it waa worth it. I was exhausted just reading about all.of the work on the sanctuary. More steam and a food edit would have been nice, but it was entertaining overall.

The dogs

I got tired of them talking about the dogs. The book needed a little more romance and less of the dogs. It took them a long time to go on the first date. Then rushed to "I love you". It wasn't anything special. After that came out at no certain event, no moment, just talking about moving to the big house once you move your business and you start the mobile business cause I love you and see us starting a life together. (Just an example of how it would go).

Themes were very repetitive. She talked about how she was sooo shocked she couldn’t trust Walter over and over again. Oye! By the end it was annoying.
