I love Bibles, and today, I am excited to tell you about the NIV Application Bible. I want to be clear that I am not reviewing the Bible; I am reviewing its features.

This beautiful Bible has a durable hard cover. A unique feature is that it includes additional content that can be accessed through the free NIV Bible App. I also love the gorgeous color photos at the beginning of each book of the Bible.

The NIV Application Bible is user-friendly and easy to understand. The beginning of each book of the Bible includes the introduction and original meaning notes, which help the reader to not only understand what that book of the Bible is about, but also guide the reader in understanding each passage in its context. At 9.5, the font is the largest I have seen in a Bible, making for an easier reading experience. Before digging into the Old or New Testament, the reader can enjoy the color Chronology that has been perfectly placed to give the reader an idea of what was going on during those time periods.

This Bible includes features you would expect to find in a good study Bible: words of Christ in red, maps of Biblical events, key verses, strong introductions, and verses for cross-referencing. However, it also has many unique features. For instance, the application notes help the reader to enhance their knowledge of the Bible by offering insights and connections that the reader might have missed. In addition, there are many questions designed to grow the reader by asking for reflection or application of the passage that has just been read. One more feature I want to highlight is the character of God articles. The articles explore aspects of God's character and what that means for our walk with Christ.

All the features of this Bible are listed in the description below; they are too numerous to go into, but each one has a purpose and adds to the strength of this Bible. I highly recommend it for anyone who is looking for a Bible to help them in their understanding of who God is.

Catching My Eye and Notable For Me

Here are some of the things that stood out to me:
— Maps, Maps, and More Maps: I love that there are maps within the chapters and in the back of the Bible. It's not just a collection of maps; they are strategically placed to enhance understanding as you read. I love to feel like I'm traveling with the people, seeing the places where these events occurred, and gaining a better understanding of the geographical context of the biblical narrative.
— Reading Plans: I know I will value using the reading plans at the back of the Bible. I appreciate the variety of plans offered, catering to different reading preferences and goals. I like the little boxes by the reading plan chapters; I can use a pencil and lightly mark what I've read, allowing me to track my progress and stay motivated.
— Dictionary and Concordance: I appreciate the inclusion of a dictionary and concordance as it makes in-depth study much more accessible. These tools are invaluable for looking up unfamiliar words, exploring the nuances of the original languages, and tracing themes and concepts throughout the Scriptures.
— NIV Application App: At the front of the Bible, there's a QR code to scan with your phone to download the NIV Application App on your phone. I already did! This seamless integration of print and digital resources is a huge plus, providing flexibility and convenience for studying the Bible in different contexts.
— Custom Typeface: And, fun fact: did you know this NIV has its very own typeface? It was commissioned by Zondervan, a division of Harper Collins Publishing, and designed in Denmark. The designers carefully considered letter spacing, line height, and contrast to create a beautiful and easy typeface on the eyes. It is really easy for me to see, which makes reading for extended periods much more comfortable.

Drawbacks

The only drawback for me was I would have liked to see some room for note-taking, either in some of the margins or having extra blank pages in the back for notes. While the Bible is rich in study features, the ability to jot down personal reflections, insights, and questions directly within the pages would have been a valuable addition for me.

The first study Bible I received was an NIV Application Study Bible. It opened up the Bible for me with its straightforward commentary and study tools when I was a young Christian and inspired me to dig deeper into God’s Word. So, when I saw this newly released NIV Application Bible from Zondervan, I had to get a look inside. And what a gem!

Here are a few things I LOVE about this study Bible:

The introduction tells you about all the helpful tools and how to use them. Don’t skip it!

Each book fo the Bible has a beautifully colored introduction to help you understand the history and context of the book you’re reading as well as pointing out key verses and themes.

There are questions embedded in the text to make you think deeper about what you’re reading and how to apply God’s Word to your life directly.

There are BIG, beautifully colored maps to help illustrate places and events in the text. And as a visual person, this is SO helpful.

There are amazing charts to help summarize what’s in the text and pull information from different books together. Very useful for deep study!

Among the commentary on the bottom of the page, you will find an Application Note that helps you apply specific texts to your spiritual walk.

And one thing I loved from my old copy…there are articles about different people in the Bible, and all the important details about their role in the Bible. There are also articles highlighting the different aspects of the character of God. I LOVE it! Knowing God’s character will only deepen our relationship with Him, improve our spiritual walk, and add dimension to our prayers.

Not to mention reading plans and FREE access to the commentary on the NIV Application Bible App.

This is an awesome Bible! It has a must-read introduction, Old and New Testament chronologies, and a chronological arrangement of fulfilled Messianic Prophecies. Many Bibles have maps, but this NIV Application Bible takes it to a higher level, with maps of countries, regions, and EVEN cities! The font size is easy to read, there are two ribbon bookmarks, and the Words of Christ are printed in RED. This is always a PLUS for me! I appreciate the abundance of learning tools, including footnotes galore, a Dictionary-Concordance, Character of God notes, and numerous charts scattered throughout. Two reading plans guide you through reading the bible in one year, or at a leisurely three-year pace! An extra perk is the QR code that provides FREE access to the NIV Application Bible Companion Mobile App. Imagine having this bible in your pocket via your mobile device!

I often struggle with gift-giving, but what could be better than the gift of God's Word? This NIV Application Bible is a meaningful gift for moms, dads, birthdays, and those special graduates in your life.

This Bible is a wonderful resource, and I recommend it to all longing to increase their knowledge of God's Word. It's a valuable resource for both novice and seasoned Christians.

The NIV Application Bible is a standout study resource for modern Bible readers! As a Bible enthusiast, I was immediately impressed by its beautiful mosaic-patterned cover in blue, gold, and white. The New International Version translation makes scripture incredibly readable and accessible.

What makes this Bible exceptional are the thoughtful study features throughout - Original Meaning Notes for context, Application Notes for daily living, and Questions for Growth for personal development. I particularly love the "People to Know" and "Character of God" articles that bring depth to my study.

The 9.5-point print size makes reading comfortable, and Jesus' words in red help His teachings stand out. The included mobile app access means I can continue my study anywhere. For a study Bible, it's substantial but worth carrying.

The NIV Application Bible is packed with excellent features. The study notes are particularly helpful in applying Biblical truths to everyday life, while the book introductions give an overview of each section I’m about to explore.

These study notes offer context for each passage and explain the original meanings. I also appreciate the numerous maps, though-provoking questions, and dual attached ribbon markers.

Due to its a hardcover and many pages, I consider it a “home Bible” since it might be too heavy to carry around daily. If you’re looking for an easy-to-read Bible that encourages both study and application of Biblical principles, this is a good choice.

For the past couple of weeks, I have been reading Genesis from the NIV Application Bible.
It is giving me new insights and knowledge that I did not know before, though I have read through the entire Bible 18 times and have done many deep Bible studies in the past three decades.
For example, I did not know Jacob was over 70 years old when he fled from his home to his Uncle Laban’s house. That is surprising to me, yet I am glad to know the facts.
I also like the cultural explanations that help the stories make more sense, as well as the personal applications for the scripture readings.
I recommend this Bible if you are looking for a new Bible or one to gift to someone.

I love, love, love this Bible! As a seminary student, I honestly can’t have enough Bibles! The commentary is clear, practical, and incredibly helpful for applying Scripture to everyday life. There's plenty of margin space for taking notes, which is a big win for me. I really like the highlights of key people and places so it makes the context so much easier to understand and brings the Word to life in a whole new way.
