Great funny joke book with interesting facts that will even have adults lol , plus the artwork is really cool , and thanks to Booktrovert I got an early copy to read and I being an adult enjoyed reading this.
Thanks so much to NetGalley for the free Kindle book. My review is voluntarily given, and my opinions are my own.
This was a bit hard to score, and I'm still not sure if I picked the right number. The illustrations were great, but even for dad jokes, they were bad. Not all of them, but so many of them. I do like that there are songs and die cuts included.
As I provide an honest review of this book, I am putting on a hat of an 8–12-year-old, the audience it's meant for.
What I really appreciate about this comic book is how much is happening on each page. The spreads are packed with drawings, words, colors and fun facts, making it a book where a child will discover something new every time they flip through. Boredom simply isn't possible! The humor is light, age appropriate and will keep the young reader engaged.
One detail I found especially creative is the small, actual hole near the right corner of each page. The author does something unique with it every time we see it. Such a clever and playful touch that keeps kids curious to see what comes next.
Overall, I think this book would be so much fun for a young reader that is within the age range that it was intended for. The book is fun and full of energy!
I want to thank the publisher and the author for providing me with a copy through Goodreads Giveaways. It was an honor to be chosen and a joy to read!
Captain LOL and Rubber Chicken: Har Har is a mashup of comics, juvenile-centered jokes, and fascinating tidbits. It very much reminded me of similar books and magazines I had as a kid growing up in the 90s which was cool for the nostalgic factor. I did find the graphics and such to be quite fun and interesting. Unfortunately the majority of pages were really busy, in the way of having a lot going on which I found to be really distracting, and it kind of took away from the jokes for me personally. I also thought the flow of the book was all over the place which made it harder for me to really get into the book. My kiddo however loved reading the jokes with me and we had quite a few giggles along the way. I would rate this a solid 3.5 stars. I wanted to love this but it fell just a bit short for me personally. We’ll probably try another book by this author in the future though and give it another go.
Won a finished paperback copy of this book in a Goodreads giveaway! The illustrations are wonderfully colorful, funny, and detailed, and are printed on high-quality paper. The hole in the book adds all sorts of humor, and I found myself looking forward to what the next pages would do with it. The jokes are on point, and I appreciated the diversity present, even if there were way more animals than humans. Overall, the style and writing reminded me of an updated Dudley Do-Right, and I enjoyed the book from cover to cover!
A reluctant reader graphic novel for children with dad jokes and mild factoids. The artwork is a bit zany and cartoonish. What you see on the cover is the style of the artwork throughout. I noticed some of the reviewers have said this book is not what they expected, but I'm not sure why. It says "Dad Joke Book" right on the cover and that's exactly what you get. I received a free ARC from the publisher.
When I was a kid, I loved the Bennett Cerf books of jokes and riddles and also loved a magazine called "Jokes By Cracky." This book by Craig Yoe brought those feelings back to me and I am delighted that a new generation of kids will get to enjoy this kind of humor -- with better artwork, yet! Besides the jokes, there are bizarre facts on every page, and there is also a free hole in the book (you will have to get a copy to fully appreciate that).
2.5 stars Comic Book I received an electronic ARC from Cider Mill Press through NetGalley. The artwork is hilarious to study but the jokes fall flat even for dad jokes. I gave this three stars for the illustrations and the factoids included on most pages. Middle school readers may have a very different take and love the humor.
Captain LOL and Rubber Chicken by Craig Yo is a Mad Magazine–style comic packed with dad jokes—lots and lots of dad jokes. The real fun comes from spotting the extra jokes hidden throughout the illustrated pages. If you love dad jokes (and who doesn’t?), this is the book for you.
Thanks @Booktrovert for the ARC. I consumed the book in a short, single setting as it is a collection of dad jokes with random factoids sprinkled amongst some fun and creative illustrations. Perfect for the guest bathroom or long drive collections
A delightful middle grade joke book told in graphic novel form. Some of the jokes are corny, some are fun and others groan worthy but it will appeal to all those reluctant readers like my grandson who thrive on graphic novels. 3.5 stars rounded to 4.
