Slow down, breathe, and let your spirit be renewed through the beauty of art and craftsmanship in Old Soul, New Creation. As Jake writes, "God is creating in you. How will you join Him?"
This book is hard to describe. It’s something like an artist’s origin story. The artwork featured is truly beautiful. The book also weaves in numerous inspirational religious messages. I’m certain the artwork would shine best in a hard copy. It looked lovely on my Kindle, but I’m convinced a printed version would be far superior.
Old Soul, New Creation is a stunning book. Whether you are interested in Jake Weidman’s story (and it is a fascinating one) or you are just captivated by the artwork, you will enjoy this gorgeous book. Jake is a Master Penman and as you flip through the pages, you will be transfixed by the measure of talent graced to this artist. He is open and humble as he tells his story and shares how God called (more like ushered) him into this vocation. Images will show you both Jake at work and some of his final creations (wait until you read about his wife’s engagement ring!). They are no less than breathtaking. The intricacies, attention to detail, and ability to capture movement and essence is truly a special gift. I originally thought maybe there would be a lot of cool drawings, but really, his talents are not limited to the pen only. There are many mediums in which Jake showcases his talent and ability to create. It really is a movement of expression, a state of being, and a pleasure to experience even a small sampling of his creativity. You will be inspired, blessed, and perhaps challenged as you read this book. Let the Spirit move, let the Lord speak, and let yourself just be in His awesome presence. I received a complimentary copy from the publisher via NetGalley and all opinions expressed are solely my own, freely given.
Weidmann takes you on a remarkable journey through his life and walk in faith through his words and art. This book would be beautiful on display in any home but it offers so much more than that. We've all been given certain gifts by our Creator, and although this journey is the author's own, it can provide guidance for finding our own way. The reassurance to listen to that still small voice in your head. Trusting that God has a plan for each of us & calling on Him to help us use these gifts for His glory. I will treasure this always. Thank you to the author, @storygramtours & @tnzgift for this #gifted copy.
This is a beautiful book in every sense—beautiful story, beautiful artwork, beautiful presentation.
I recommend this book for every Christian artist (visual or otherwise). You will be inspired by Jake’s story of learning to embrace his artistic calling. You will be challenged to create slowly and intentionally in obedience to God.
I don’t think I’ve ever read a better explanation for why the process of art making matters just as much as the final product. We should understand art and the creative process as worship and a testimony to the world. Jake exemplifies that so well. I could go on and on, but if you know an artist, give them this book!
I was so excited for this book to drop and I can happily say it's thoroughly engaging and probably my favorite for this season. If your on the fence about it, go ahead and do your self a favor, lean into the purchase.
