The past has a tendency to catch up to us in the blink of an eye. It’s no different for Brooke Altman, a 17-year-old girl who is graduating from a local high school in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania with big dreams of becoming an interior designer. She’s excited to start college and pursue her passion. However, tragedy strikes when the most important person in her life, her mom, passes away, leaving her with unanswered questions and a desire to uncover the truth. Brooke decides to do DNA testing, which leads her down a path of unexpected discoveries, leaving her with more questions than answers.
My opinion is slightly biased as Tina is my aunt who we discovered was family through her DNA journey.
I connected with the main character Brooke on so many levels after losing her mom tragically. In how she talked about her feelings and feeling like an orphan/homeless, I resonated with her fears.
Eighteen-year-old Brooke had always felt out of place. As the baby of the family, she was nothing like her sisters. Where they were petite with dark hair and eyes, she was 5'10" and blonde with hazel eyes. The fact that they were quite a bit older just widened the differences she felt between them. Her parents had divorced and her father remarried. He spent a great deal of time with her sisters, while she stayed with her mother, so their bond was not as strong.
Brooke survived some emotional trauma in her life, especially the tragic loss of her beloved mother at eighteen. Her mother was acting strange and tried to tell Brooke something right before she died.
As her feelings of disconnect heightened, Brooke turned to DNA for answers, but was unprepared for what she would find.
I loved the premise behind this story. I never had to experience the things Brooke did but I have thrown my life into the study of my genealogy and I can say it has been infinitely exciting. The truth about the past is not always easy but it is usually rewarding. Well written, excellent plot twists, happily ever after
Love, love, LOVED this story! I don't know where she got all that she put in this story but it's SO INTERESTING! THANK YOU FOR YOUR TIME, TALENT AND THE STORY!
