A girl with nothing. A guy with everything to lose and one offer that changes everything.
Savannah Barnett thinks she's mastered the art of invisibility. Walking fast, talking soft and running out of our study classes so fast that it should be obvious for guys like me to keep their distance.
Spoiler Alert: I've been staring like a lovesick idiot since day one.
I should focus on hockey. I've got a pro contract on the line and a team who need me, but I can't stop watching her. Can't stop wanting her. And when I find out she's being taken advantage of? Game over.
She says she doesn't need saving, but I still offer her a way out... with my last name. A fake marriage. A real mess. And a hundred reasons why I should stay away, but I'm done pretending.
This isn't just a love story. It's a fight. And I don't lose.
The Obvious Check is a 130k hockey romance and is intended for Mature readers.
This is the second book in this phenomenal series and this is Cade and Savannah's story. This is a well written emotional roller coaster story, with found family, friendships, emotions, intrigue, heartbreak, manipulation, determination, bullying, revelations, loyalty, drama, healing, challenges, undeniable chemistry, and unconditional love, which all leads to an entertaining, tragic, twirsted, and unpredictable addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I have just.
First off i would like to thank Ana for the opportunity to read & review this gifted E-Arc.
Savannah & Cade OH MY GOSH! This book is EVERYTHING! im obsessed with Savannah & Cade so bad, Like I'm down bad for them. I just wanted to wrap Savannah up into the tightest hug possible and just give her so much love and Cade i wanted to punch and shake him for his behavior but to see him turn it around and grow and redeem himself was so good. I absolutely loved that he never hesitated to do whatever it took to get to Savannah and was always honest with her and patiently waited on her to come to terms with things. I absolutely loved watching Savannah grow and learn to stand her ground & I also enjoyed that she was willing to do whatever it took to get her sister back. The banter and tension through out this book was just unbelievable good. And that little twist at the end *Chefs kiss*
5/5 Recommend this book. Ana really out her writing down bad men and sassy stubborn women. She put her soul into this book and you could feel it & Cade is my favorite (So far) I loved that she writes humor and heart felt stories and just pulls at your emotions and makes you feel it. I also loved the redemption arc she gave Cade.
I am a massive Ana Shay fan and I enjoy all her books but I believe this to be her best yet. In the Obvious Check she has written a love story of resilience, strength, determination, grit and fight. It certainly packs a punch and delivers every emotion. From swooning, to crying, to anger and then melting I couldn't get enough of this story as I fell so hard for Cade and Savannah and was invested right from the get go.
Every now and then a book comes along and it's just special and this was that for me. I couldn't stop messaging her along the way as the twists and turns developed.
We know from the Draft that Cade is a bit of mystery. His behaviour at times comes across as reckless so I was really interested in what makes him tick. Well, I'm here to tell you this guy delivers in all the ways. If I'm gonna end up in trouble I'd want him fighting for me.
He is completely smitten with Savannah Barnett ever since he lays eyes on her. He will do anything to get a glimpse of her, even bribing a schoolmate so he can sit next to her in class. But she's always on the run and trying to go unnoticed. Too late because he sees her and wants to know more. What Cade discovers is far worse than any of his nightmares and he sets out proving to her that she doesn't have to be alone in this world. The lengths that he goes to will have you melting and swooning as he sets out to protect her.
Savannah is all types of complicated. She's shy, frightened, vulnerable but also a fighter. She's strong in so many ways but she too has been pining after Cade for some time. He's the highlight of her day. I loved her. She was written so well. And when she finally gave in to help and melted into Cade it was the best thing. They were the best team.
There is so much going on in this story. Cade is also dealing with the betrayal of his best friend seeing his sister behind his back and I liked that this was explored in more depth.
It hits every mark for me and I loved it in every single way. The spice was spicy, the love was loving and the fight added so much depth. The book provides hope that true love really does shine through.
Ana Shay is the only author who continuously causes my anxiety levels to go off the charts but I keep coming back for more so what does that really say about me?
The Obvious Check was no different. This book is by far the most intense story Ana has written so far. Any time things were going well, I sat there going " omg, omg, omg, what hell is Ana cooking up now?" (iykyk) 🤣
I honestly did not know which direction this book was going to go and I was so in awe of this story. Cade was such a surprise. After everything that happened in The Draft, I really didn't expect him to be such a possessive golden retriever but damn that man is what dreams are made of. Right from the start, he's super obsessed with Savannah, and everything he does, is to make her life better. And Savannah? That woman had my heart bleeding for her. She's been dealt a terrible hand in life, but did she let that break her? Hell no. She continued to fight for her sister, even if that meant putting herself in danger.
Cade and Savannah were just absolute perfection together. The way Cade had to learn to be patient with her and Savannah finally letting him in had my heart melting. And let's take a minute to apprectiate Stanley Biscuit Bright. He was the cutest addition to this family and had such a special bond with Savannah.
And of course, let's not forget the rest of the Covey Crushers hockey team. I LIVE for good banter and shenanigans in books, and these hockey boys did not disappoint. I lost count of the amount of times I laughed at their antics and quips.
I truly cannot get over how much I loved this one and I can't wait for the next hockey boy in this series !
🌶🌶🌶 (the spice doesn't hit until about 50% but then it hits HARD)

Firstly i would like to say thank you to the wonderful Ana for the opportunity to read her book Obvious Check. Which is the second book in the Covey Crushers series. Ana girl, you out did yourself. This was fabulous, since book one i have been dying to get my hands on this one. I couldn’t put it down. I read it in a day and would do it again.
Obvious Check follows Cade and Savannah. From the moment Cade sees Sav he knows she is the only girl for him. But little does he know that Sav has her eyes on him too and he stars frequently in her fantasy’s. Sav avoids Cade even tho they have classes together, she feels she doesn’t deserve someone like Cade. But Cade has other ideas and he will stop at nothing to get the girl and make all her dreams come true. First hurdle her douche boss…
There was so so much i loved about this one. One of the things though was seeing some of the people from the Covey U series. Especially seeing Matty again.
These two have fabulous chemistry, Cade is boy obsessed with his girl, this one was a little darker then previous books but i loved it and the touch her and die vibe 🤤, there was so much growth with these two, great banter and tension and the spice was 🔥 🔥
Guys, i have been dying for Cades book and now it’s here. Im so happy, it was everything and more than i wanted Cade to be. This man was my fave before he even got his book (sorry Dash.)
If you’re looking for your next hockey fix, add this one to your tbr or grab your copy today.
Getting to experience Cade and Savannah’s love was such an incredible ride. Book two of the Covey Crushers easily earns 5 stars from me!!
I have to say, I do love an unhinged MMC and Cade definitely delivered! A little bit of stalking, mixed with obsession, and sprinkled with over the top protection and love… *chef’s kiss*! He definitely falls first and HARDER!
I also love a strong, badass FMC, and I was so invested in Savannah’s story. Growing up in the foster system and separated from her biological sister, she was driven to the point of dancing in a sleazy bar and living in her car. Even with the difficult hand she was dealt, she wasn’t going to let anyone get in her way! Cade was able to earn her trust and help her. He proposed with a ring pop, for heaven’s sake!
Side note, he may have also gotten a toy custom molded to look like her ring pop engagement ring… and used it on her 🥵 now that was HOT!
“I’m not just marrying you, Sav. I’m choosing your family, your life, all the beautiful chaos that comes with loving you.”
“It’s not just a ring, Sav. It’s a promise. That you’ll never have to wonder if you’re enough again because you’re everything to me.”
“I love him so much it terrifies me. I love him in ways I didn't know were possible. I love him with every broken piece of my soul.”
“I would tear the world apart for you, Savannah, you just have to let me.”
“Promise me something.” “What?” “That you’ll always come back to me. No matter what. Even when I’m a stubborn asshole. Even if I mess things up, or there’s a ten-foot-fighter declaring his love for you. Promise you’ll always be mine.” “Always.”
Ana what have you put in this... cuz I am addicted! I honestly thought that no one could top Dash.... how very wrong was I!
This follows Savannah in her struggles to make ends meet, she accepts help from the wrong person and ends up stuck, doing everything she can to get out and get herself together to reunite with her family. From the moment Cade laid eyes on her he was obsessed, not taking no for an answer he is determined to make her his and do everything he can to help her, even if its not as easy as it seems.
I've been on the edge of my seat for the majority of this and I didn't want it to end! Everything about both Savannah and Cade was amazing! He truly is the gift that keeps on giving and loves with his entire self! Savannah may have been broken but she never gave up and it goes to show how strong she had to be! It was truly magical.
It was amazing to see the return of the Crushers from book one as well as Cade sister, Maddison. I cannot wait to see what the rest of the series brings and dont know about anyone else but I NEED to know the full story of what happened between Erik and Scotty!!
I would highly recommend this series as well as the rest of the books in the Ana-verse! I will be dreaming of these guys tonight thats for sure! For fans of Hockey Romance, Marriage of Convenience, Found Family, He Falls First and HARD, Dog Dad, Dancer X Fighter and some delicious Spicy goodness.
I love Cade Bright, and even though we’ve only known each other for a short time, I don’t think I will ever make a better decision than marrying him.
Savannah Barnett is in some trouble but doesn’t want anyone to see it and doesn’t want to ask for help. Cade Bright sees her dancing and recognizes her as one of his classmates in college. He is in love the second he sees her and has hearts in his eyes! 😍 She also has a crush on him, but doesn’t understand how a man like him could like someone like her. But he does everything he can to convince her!
Omg this is Ana‘s best book to date! I didn’t want to put it down. I love how they didn’t fight their attraction to eachother, so we saw a lot of couples content! Cade Bright is amazing! He takes her in, he loves her and shows her affection, but all at her pace - she needs space, he gives it. I love that so much! Savannah just needs a little convincing, that she is indeed very lovable and that there is someone out there, who will fight for her (figuratively and literally 🤭) and will help her get her sister Adley back! Cade also does everything he can in order to make Adley feel welcome and I hope to see in future books, how they can have a happy family with their own children and that they were able to adopt Briar as well! I am very excited to see who the next book in this series, and in general, is about! 😍
Thank you so much Ana Shay for the opportunity to read this as an ARC! 🤍
💜🩵The Obvious Check🩵💜 By the amazing @authoranashay
Ana NEVER disappoints so as always, this gets a 5/5 ⭐ for me! The ONLY thing I can complain about is the book being a different size to the rest of the collection but that's hella minor!😂 Long story short, I wanna give Sav the biggest hug ever and be her bestest friend and look after her. She's cute and sweet but absolutely badass and I wouldn't wanna be on the opposite team if it ever came to it! Cade? Oh my god, Cade?! The absolute perfect boyfriend, fiance and husband as well as the most amazing best friend anyone could ever ask for. Savannah is a tough cookie who won't stop to do what she needs for her family. And I adore Cade for never showing even a smidge of hesitation when it came to getting what he wanted (Sav) and doing what he needed to for her! Their growth together was beautiful 🥹 Savannah grew so much with Cade and Cade learnt a lot about himself because of Sav and they really were the absolute perfect team from start to finish! And of course, Stanley needs an honourable mention because who the hell wouldn't want and love that little guy!
Wow!! If I could give this book 100/5 I would! What a read! I am so emotionally invested in Cade and Savannahs lives it’s crazy! I knew after the draft that I was going to love Cades character but I honestly didn’t expect it to be this much!! Savannah is such an amazing FMC too and I was rooting for them both from the beginning!! I love that this book had no 3rd act breakup and they were just so right for each other!! This book did feel slightly darker than Ana’s other books and did touch on more serious subjects but I think she did it so well! It was lovely to see my boys being mentioned from the Covey U series aswell! I immediately finished this book and went into the extended epilogue because I wanted more! I can’t wait to see whose story is next and where the crushers will all end up! We need to know what happened between Erik and Scotty 🤣 This book is available from 14th July 2025! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
I need to start out by saying I wanna give Savannah a big hug after reading this book 🥹 The story of Cade and Savannah was a rollercoaster of emotions. One second I was so sad and wanting to jump into the book to hug her and the next page I’d be swooning and kicking my feet. Ana Shay has the ability to write a story that is so relatable that makes you feel every emotion the characters experience.
Cade is a man who yearns to have someone to love when he laid eyes on Savannah that was it for him. He will do anything for her no matter the cost. Savannah has had such a rough life having lost her family at such a young age and is barley getting by trying her best to keep her head above water so she can get her little sister out of the foster care system.
I cannot tell you enough that this man will be having you completely FERAL and begging to keep him. I’m so sad that I can go back and read this book for the first time again. I can’t wait to have every little crumb of this couple in the rest of the Covey Crushers series!
Going into this book I wasn’t sure how I was going to feel about Cade. I loved The Draft so much, and Cade was a massive prick to his best friend and sister, but getting to get inside his head flipped it for me.
The slow burn in this was amazing, and the characters were beautiful. They were flawed, but so perfect for each other. Cade gave Savannah so much, but the biggest thing (outside of helping with her sister) was simply just making her feel wanted and seen. Chosen. For Savannah that is something that she hasn’t felt since her parents died and she desperately needed.
These two loved each other so fiercely and unapologetically. They both helped the other heal and it was wonderful.
The emotional rollercoaster of this book was absolutely brutal, but I would do it again in a heartbeat.
Cade and Savannah were absolutely amazing, I loved every second of them.
Thank you so much to Ana Shay for the ARC of this book!
5/5 ⭐️ (I would give this all the stars again and again!!) 3/5 🌶️
Wow oh wow! Ana never fails to write the best books! I have been in love with her books for almost a year now and they just keep getting better! I absolutely LOVE Cade🥹 the way he goes all in for someone. The way he never lets you down. The way he is just the perfect man! And Savannah, that girl is something fierce! She is a fighter. A survivor. Someone who you would want in your corner because she would never give up on you once you have her love. She fought tooth and nail for everything she has! Cade. Her sister. Her freedom. She is easily one of my favorite FMCs Ana has written! I can’t wait for the next book, to see all these characters again and to see whose story is next.
As always Ana, I’m obsessed! I love you and your work girlie!! Keep fvckin writing!!!!!😘🥰
This was such a super cute hockey romance with one of my favorite tropes—he falls first! Cade was the perfect mix of sweet and determined, always seeing Savannah for who she truly is and doing everything he could to make her life better. Savannah’s strength really stood out; she goes through so much and still manages to come out stronger every time, which made me really root for her.
The dog absolutely stole the show—always dressed up in the cutest outfits and adding lighthearted moments to balance the heavier parts of the story.
While it has its adorable and romantic moments, there are also themes of abuse and hardship woven into Savannah’s story. Readers should be aware of that going in, but I think Ana Shay did a good job of showing Savannah’s resilience and Cade’s support.
Overall, a touching mix of sweetness, struggle, and romance that kept me engaged the whole way through.
Again, another Superbook from this author. Ana has a magic ability to create characters that are believable and likable. This book excelled at creating a link between myself and the character to the point where I was crying because of the crap the FMC had to deal with. Lucky the MMC is the most lovely guy that would do anything for the FMC I just don't think I could have coped with her going through any more trauma. Overall, this is a lovely book that is going to tug at your heartstrings. I love the inclusion of characters from other books, both in this series and other series written by this author bring on the next book!
Truly love Ana Shay and everything she writes but this book was a whole other level and I LOVED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! I seriously have loved Ana’s growth as an author and it makes me so proud🩷
If you love: - hockey romance - romantic suspense - he falls first and harder - marriage of convenience - he’s a dog daddy
And so much more you definitely want to add this and the covey crushers series to your TBR! It is an interconnected standalone series and starts with the draft and leads into this one
I almost didn't pick this one up because of the cutesy (imo silly) cover. I'm glad I read it though. It was kinda emotional and I was all about Cade's obsessing over Savannah. I enjoyed her character, I had lots of feels. The way the plot went, I knew what Cade would have to do and I almost was dissappointed as I was reading, I wanted the horrible Luke to get taken care of by some other way. Well, I was satisfied how it ultimately happened... the extra dose of angst ( that was foreshadowed so I knew) was awesome to read.
I really enjoyed book one and something about book two was just not for me. The plot was definitely there. But when people get married in under a month and say they are in love, you lose me. I know it’s for convenience, it’s in the title. That would be different but they also claimed to be in love and that’s what just wasnt for me. Oh well. Still enjoy hockey smut.
Uhh. This book had me in by the throat at page 1. I am here for a trauma story, hockey, and obsession/stalker vibes. This had it all and so so so much more. I you love any of those tropes get yourself a coffee and read this book now. I’m sad it’s over but now I need to go back and read dash’s and Maddison’s story! I hope Henry and Erik get books to because they are hilarious!
Well, when I thought Dash was gonna hold the key to my heart Cade so hold the phone! I love how sweet, patient, caring, and kind he is to Savannah. The way he waits and protects her through out the book is so sweet. I love this series and cannot wait for more!
It’s fine. The premise for this book is just extremely weak, the characters are so immature and naive I’m honestly a little surprised they got into college, they seem to be entirely isolated from any responsible adults… but it’s generally inoffensive.
When I tell you that Ana did such an amazing job with this book is scratching the surface of how much I loved it! I was drawn in from the very beginning where you see right off the bat that Savannah is a strong, independent woman that is willing to do anything for her family. Her struggles throughout the book make her stronger and I related a lot to Savannah in many ways throughout this book. She is such a genuine character and doesn’t want anyone to put themselves out for her. And in comes Cade like a wrecking ball knocking down all her walls and wants nothing more than to be her teammate in her fight. Cade is the definition of “if he wanted to he would” and trust me when I tell you HE DID! 😍 I loved seeing their love grow and seeing them work through hardships together. I absolutely loved this book and I’m super excited for the next book to come out!
I don’t know exactly what my expectations were going into this book, but they were not met. This is not a light-hearted marriage of convenience story, it’s an infuriating mess.
