I'm from Nova Scotia, Canada, and I write speculative fiction (fantasy, sci-fi, horror), as well as poetry. I have been plying the trade for several years, periodically interrupted by those pesky events from life. I have published independently and authored such books as the Saga of the Outer Islands series, the Killers and Demons series, Fairy Tale Fusion, and Ruined City. I've also had stories published in various anthologies, including Hell's Empire, A Twist of Fate, the Christmas Lites series and Mechanized Masterpieces from Xchyler Publishing.
This story in my view desperately wants to be Steampunk Sherlock Holmes but it just doesn’t make it. While the story is at times amusing I’m mostly just left with a feeling of being rushed through. The chemistry between the characters is lacking they don’t balance each other well, even though they’ve got opposing personalities. There are hints of promise but this overall seems more like an outline or a draft than a complete story. 2.5/5 stars. My two cents, your mileage may vary. I receive a copy of this book via StoryOrigin this review and it’s opinions are wholly my own.
The Headless Corpse: A Heyward and Andersen Mystery (Heyward and Andersen, Consulting Detectives Book 3), my third read from author A.F. Stewart is a 48-page-turning, delightful, amateur sleuth mystery, combining Sherlock Holmes and steampunk Victorian Britain. I look forward to the next book in the series, Rivalry and Steam Monsters: A Heyward and Andersen Mystery (Heyward and Andersen, Consulting Detectives Book 4). It's a humorous story, easy to read and to enjoy if you do not seek for more deepness in the characters or the plot. A pity because certainly those characters have potential. Not my cup of tea. (Godreads enforce me to rate , but I consider that's unfair for the author to me to rate gence 3*)
In the third outing in the gaslight/steampunk series by A.F. Stewart, a perturbed mortician seeks help from the detective agency of Heyward and Andersen, and, pardon my dreadful pun, heads will roll. But whose and why? Ah, that`s the cunning mystery which lies before you.... Disclaimer: I received an advance review copy for free, and am leaving this review voluntarily.
