A masterclass of manipulation—dive deep into the true story of a cat-and-mouse game with law enforcement that spans the globe and help piece together the clues in a race against time.
Boaz Manor was a finance wunderkind. He started a hedge-fund company in Canada and later burst onto Wall Street with a product that could transform the crypto market. By all accounts, he was incredibly hard-working. Possibly brilliant. And...a shameless con man who ended up wanted in multiple countries.
Chasing Boaz Manor explores Boaz’s schemes through the perspective of those he left in his wake. An anxious employee who got to know Boaz’s alter ego. A hardened financial investigator who chased him across the globe. An obsessed journalist who gets caught in his mind games. A high school frenemy out for revenge.
Our host, actress and star of Reacher Serinda Swan, guides us through the sprawling crimes of a man who just can’t seem to be stopped.
Chasing Boaz Manor takes listeners deep into the world of an enigmatic character who, against all odds, keeps slipping away.
The Audible membership podcasts and audio stories have been great gap fillers lately for me when I want something quick in between longer audiobooks. I tend to stay away from anything remotely resembling True Crime, but this one had a technological hook with cryptocurrency so it passed the bar on my interest level.
Overall a well told tale, after each chapter/episode I was immediately ready to listen to more and ended up listening to it in two sessions. This is a strong 4 star, it did a good job of not overwhelming with the technical details of crypto and focusing on the intrigue of Boaz and his plots but ultimately I wish it had a better ending. Probably the easiest way to expand the end would be to add commentary on security around crypto today, ideas on how to protect yourself from getting scammed, and recommendations for reformation in governance and regulation of crypto. If you just want a solid story about a serial scammer and how he stole millions of dollars from thousands of people, you won’t be disappointed.
I didn't realize this was more of a podcast than a book when I started listening to it. It's very mediocre. The story is only somewhat sensational - certainly terrible for the people involved but not the kind of story that would typically warrant a multi-episode true crime podcast. For example, JDC stole 3.2 euros from Boaz and then....gave it all back. A bit anti-climactic. The reporting is middling. Don't really recommend.
Journalism, that's all, but with no (happy) ending. I wasn't satisified with this podcast, although I'm glad it was part of Audible Plus, so free if you have membership. It listens like a "the story so far", it's a chase wihtout an end or one that ends because of lack of air? Boaz is running faster than this podcast, so, no conclusion to this podcast, besides "this was the best that we could do".
