The path to love is not at all straightforward or simplistic. The way is filled with many obstacles. Often the greatest challenges are our own selves, our emotional baggage, our lack of self knowledge, and the inability to love ourselves unconditionally.

Through the Veil is a love story unlike any I've read before. Unlike the average romance story, the authors share their real journey. The main characters Jerry and Alice work through a number of hit and miss relationships before finding each other. Even then, the couple has to do a lot of soul searching and hard work to make their relationship deepen and grow. I found the real life loves, losses, and hiccups of these two individuals extremely appealing and personally helpful. It's importantly to be reminded that we all make mistakes, we all have expectations that are unrealistic, and that all relationships require constant compassion, love, and a lot of effort.

Still, the reason I will recommend this book to my friends and family is the running commentary that accompanies this love story. In these sections updates of each individual's progress is noted by spiritual guides. Of particular significance tend to be the lowest and hardest times experienced by Jerry and Alice. It is from these lessons that they are guided towards amazing changes or a greater understanding of themselves. Sometimes as human beings we only see mistakes but if we could see these experiences with greater wisdom we find that they were essential to our growth.
