Care for This Love

Of course he would be handsome, caring, smart...and in the Navy.

Christiana “Tia” Lopez is done with men, done with DC, and done pretending she’s happy with her life. After catching her boyfriend in an awful lie, Tia bids farewell to the East Coast and retreats to her great aunt’s house in sunny San Diego. She has a new plan get a simple job, join a recreational soccer team, and pick up her paintbrush again. Dating, crushes, relationships—nowhere on her radar. She never believed in true love anyways and she’s ready to live life on her own terms for a change.

Until she meets Cole Slaeden, a Navy corpsman with a caring heart and a passion for his job. Once he enters the picture—literally—Tia is forced to reconsider everything she’s believed about love and courage.

Will a Navy romance finally lead to her happily ever after?

Care for this Love is a closed-door military romance told from Tia's point of view WITHOUT the heavier themes of war, combat deployments, and related trauma. It has a small-town feel and fiery kisses, but no spice.

Care for This Love by Hope Snyder Review

Care for This Love by Hope Snyder is a heartfelt contemporary military romance that follows Christiana “Tia” Lopez, a woman whose life has just been turned upside down when her boyfriend’s betrayal pushes her to leave Washington DC for sunny San Diego to reconnect with art, soccer, and herself. Determined to live on her own terms without expecting romance, Tia joins a recreational soccer team and leans into the simple joys she has long neglected. Then Cole Slaeden, a compassionate Navy corpsman with a gentle heart, enters her life in the most unexpected way, challenging her hard-earned independence and inviting her to consider courage, vulnerability, and what love might look like when you least expect it. Though this story is a closed-door romance with tender kisses and no heavy combat depictions, it offers a small-town beachy backdrop and a slow-blooming connection that feels authentic and warm.

From the very first chapter, I felt swept into Tia’s journey of rediscovery, and it was her evolving self-confidence that touched me most deeply. There were moments of laughter and breezy sunshine on the soccer field, and other moments that made me pause, thinking about what it means to heal after betrayal and to open your heart again despite your fears. Cole’s steady presence and genuine care grounded their attraction in something rich and soulful instead of rushed and superficial, and I loved how their sweet chemistry built over shared experiences rather than instant sparks. The setting in San Diego felt vivid and joyful, from beach walks to coffee shop chats, and the found family of friends around them added light and depth to the story. While a few early scenes felt slower to start as characters found their footing, by the midpoint the emotional momentum carried me along with a sincere smile. In the end, this book made me feel hopeful, comforted, and grateful for stories that show love as something worth tending to, even when it feels fragile at first.

Rating: 4 out of 5
Because the tender character growth and genuine warmth made this a cozy love story that stayed with me.

🇺🇸 The vibes:
- military romance
- Found family
- Co-ed soccer team
- Small town beach setting
- closed door

🇺🇸 My thoughts:
When Tia’s life is flipped upside down, losing her job and boyfriend in one swoop, she moves from DC to CA for a whole new start. Tia starts having fun again and doing hobbies that she loves that she hasn’t done in a long time, like painting and soccer. As she starts finding herself once again, she connects with a group of friends near the navy base and finds herself crushing on a navy man- the last type of man she ever wanted.

⚓️ I liked the unpredictability here. I didn’t know how the journey was going to go. This felt almost women’s fiction / coming of age for me in a lot of ways but the romance was romancing for sure. Cole and Tia had a valid reason for not getting together. It made me really think about love and life and just how much pressure love can withstand. It made me question if love really can conquer all.

🇺🇸 At the start of the book both main characters are in relationships with other people. I was very unsure about the set up, but once the story got rolling, I couldn’t put it down.

⚓️ I loved the setting of California and the beach scenes. The soccer moments were fun too. The romance was so precious. I loved seeing the struggle between Tia and Cole when their careers seemed at conflict, and seeing how love could work when it seems impossible.

🇺🇸 It’s mentioned that Cole can never be alone and always has to have a relationship, so I wish that we maybe had more focus on his growth as he exited one relationship and entered a new one. The start of Cole and Ripley started my perception of Cole on a bad footing- HOWEVER, he really won me over as I kept reading. The jelly fish incident had me swooning. The coffee shop visits. So cute. The FaceTime study sessions. Adorable. I couldn’t stop myself from loving his character as I got to see more of him.

⚓️ Overall, this was a unique read that I’m happy I tried, and I’d definitely read more from this author.

Care for This Love was such a delight! I don’t read many romance novels, yet this story was heartfelt and felt very realistic.

Within the first chapters, you are introduced to the main character and the very real issues going on in her career, friendship/roommate relationship, and love life. Each character that is introduced is dynamic from the start, yet readers still get to see great character development from quite a few of the cast.

I love an atmospheric novel, and this one most certainly hit the spot. The author, Hope, put so much effort into getting readers acquainted with Crown Island. The songs mentioned as well as the beach/dunes, coffee and burrito shops, and art gallery were key highlights, and I felt like I was truly there while reading. I also loved brushing up on my Spanish as Tia and her Aunt Marisol spoke some Spanglish throughout the book.

Tia and Cole’s relationship was so sweet, and the themes of courage and sacrifice were inspiring. As an Army (reservist) wife, it was so much fun to learn a bit more about Navy life and relationships, and Cole and Tia’s story will stick with me for some time to come.

Lastly, the epilogue was very satisfying. In several of the romance books I’ve read in the past, I’ve been left wanting to know more of the characters’ happily ever afters. This book gives a pretty far glimpse into the story and characters that readers grow so invested in. It made for such a well-rounded read and I stayed up way too late to read it multiple times!

If there is one thing that my experience as a military wife has taught me, it's that the most surefire way to find yourself falling in love with a servicemember is to say that you don't want to fall in love with a servicemember. While my military love story and Tia's were very different, I could definitely relate to her character on that, which definitely helped draw me into this sweet story. Right from their first chance meeting, I absolutely adored the easy chemistry between Cole and Tia. Cole was a bit of a hopeless romantic and so supportive of her and her art, making it difficult not to fall in love with him. While I know little about art, I thought that aspect of their story and seeing her grow in confidence in both her art and her strength throughout the story. While some military romances really just feature a main character who is/was in the military but doesn't really go too much into what that life looks like, this one really does give a good glimpse into that-- both the good and the bad (but without getting into the heaviest aspects which I appreciated). For those unfamiliar, the author also does a great job of allowing the reader to learn along with Tia on some of the military terminology and such. This was such a sweet and emotional romance and a great way to start this series. I loved the side characters we were introduced to in this story and cannot wait to see what happens next.

Care for This Love is a closed-door romance with kisses only. It does have a small amount of minor language.

Care for this Love - My Navy Romance book 1 by Hope Snyder - ARC review

After a the breakup from her boyfriend Tia wants to start a new life in San Diego where she spent a lot of time as child with her aunt. She follows her passion for art and soccer. However she is not ready to look for love. Then she meets Cole, a corpsman in the Navy and member of her soccer team.

From the first few pages I was already drawn into the story. Tia is a character I can easily relate to with the love she has for her family and friends as well as her passion for art. Her internal struggles make her real and multidimensional. She shows how it’s possible to grow as a person and an artist if you love what you do and are ready to work for it.
Just like Tia, Cole is also a very passionate person. He loves his family and truly cares for everyone around him. Furthermore he is very loyal, which becomes evident in the way he serves his country in the Navy. Even though there aren’t any chapters written from his perspective, Cole is portrait as a character with many different sides, that make him relatable and easy to love.

All in all I really enjoyed reading Care for this Love. The characters and their story are beautifully written and Hope Snyder perfectly portraits the obstacles they overcome together. It shows that love is not always easy, but in the end it’s worth it to fight for it. Tia and Cole don't just grow stronger as a couple, but also as individual people.

I recommend Care for this Love to everyone who loves heartfelt romance books with with lots of love, relatable characters, but no spice.

Genre: contemporary romance
Content: makeouts, infrequent mild language

This is Hope Snyder’s first full length novel and you are definitely going to want to pick it up!

Tia Lopez has gotten to a point in her life where she realizes she isn’t where she needs to be and she’s not doing what she needs to be doing. So she packs up and moves to Crown Island, California, a place where she spent time in the summers with her great aunt. There, Tia does things to make her soul feel alive again— like painting and playing soccer. On the field, she meet Cole Slaeden, a corpsman in the Navy.

I really love the way that Hope crafted this story. Tia knew nothing about the Navy and so things were naturally explained to her by the other characters as the book went on. Like Tia, I also know nothing about the Navy and I feel like I learned so much!

The messages of courage and sacrifice and love found throughout the story were beautiful.

This beautiful love story releases 9/26!

Favorite Quotes:
🫶 "There's a voice in your head that's good and encouraging, you just have to listen to it. Give it some space to get louder."

🔥 "You want me to say if I'd rather kiss her or you?" "No, that's-" "You. You every time, Tia. And I'll tell you a secret." He leans forward and whispers in my ear. "I've kissed you in my dreams, and I'm patiently waiting to see if I'll get to do it in real life."

❤️ "You want to know what I want? I want you. I want us. I want you to never stop painting. I want you by my side when the going gets tough. I want to support you and encourage you when you doubt yourself. I want to hear you saying you're proud of me and I want to tell you every day that you're my favorite artist. And we can do that no matter where we are in the world, in Fort Huachuca, Arizona or Norfolk, Virginia or Sasebo, Japan."

‼️ "You cannot control life and not everything has to be all bad or all good…. It's normal for things to be mostly good and a little hard. Or to find a moment of something good in the midst of something difficult."

🥰"I'd walk right up to him and say, 'Hi, handsome. Life is going to suck really bad sometimes, but would you like to go through it together?’"

From the very first few chapters, I knew this was going to be a 5-star read. The slow burn is absolutely perfect, and the character development is so well done—it draws you in effortlessly. This book has me giggling , screaming that my husband has to check up on me. Cole Slaeden is a walking green flag, and Tia Lopez may have had her fears and doubts, but she learns that love is always worth fighting for. This story of self-discovery after an uneventful life is both relatable and inspiring, showing that when you care for this love, all the hardships and fears will be worth it in the end.

I especially love how Hope Snyder captures the essence of Navy life, illustrating how daunting and scary it can be, but also how love and resilience can get you through. Tia also realizes that family will always stand by you through everything you dream of and do. This novel is a beautiful blend of love, courage, and the faith to leap into new challenges. If you're looking for a story that tugs at your heart and inspires, I highly recommend this one!

-I also would like to add , I’ve read a ton of romance novels by some of the most popular authors (CoHO, Ali Hazelwood , Emily Henry, Ashley Poston) and this one is right up there with the best of them! I read this one-sitting and can’t put the book down. This novel is totally relatable and having lived a Navy Married Life, this is one of the best novels I’ve read 🙌

Favorite Quote: “Commitment takes effort, sure. But falling in love.. there’s the initial free-fall of not knowing how you could ever stop yourself from loving this person to the point of being willing to do anything for them”

Thank you @HopeSnyder and her ARC team for providing this wonderful masterpiece for me to review.

❤️ Care for this Love ❤️

I had to physically sit on my hands to wait to post this. I told you, my book besties, how much I loved this book and I just keep loving it even more. Cole and Tia (Cola—I think that was the winner? Lol) are my favorite couple now.

The realness of both of them, how they had so many differences and yet still some similarities just felt like I was reading about someone’s real life. The way Hope portrayed how dedicated Cole was to being a Navy Corpsman made me feel so much pride for our military.

I think I’ve said this before, but I LOVE military romances, especially when the men and women portrayed show their dedication to their job and what it means to them.

Honestly, this book felt deeper than a story. It felt like a carefully crafted love letter that she curated, and I feel so honored to have been on her team for this. The love, the humor, the found family, plus the beautiful look at Tia’s heritage just all made this book the perfect blend of wonderfulness.

Some things I loved in this book that I haven’t already mentioned: such good food described, her painting process, the fact that Cole loves Pacific Rim (one of the best monster movies EVER. I’ll take no debate on this), coffee shop vibes, SUCH character growth, off the charts incredible kisses—the tension…man!

Please read this, I promise you won’t regret this beautiful book.

"This could end so badly," I whisper, a warning to myself as much as him.
"Doesn't have to."

Tia and Cole's story has all the feels - a great attraction and a problem: he's in the military and Tia's not sure she can handle the separation and the life this will lead to. I loved the exploration of these issues, not frequently spotlit in romance. And I appreciated that as a sweet romance, the conclusion was inevitably going to be: choose love. In the words of Cole,
"to love and be loved... It's magic."

As a wife whose husband has spent time working away from home, I related a lot to the questions the book raises. I knew exactly how Tia felt when the FaceTime cut out and the aching disappointment of a missed connection. Because the novel only showed them being tested with one separation, it did leave me thinking, yes, but what about once you've done this several times in one year? So my only reservation at the end was that the difficulties felt a little swept under the rug.

For me, though, Tia's personal journey was inspiring. To finish with my favourite quote:
"Girl, own your bravery, okay?"

What a sweet and moving story.

I love Cole and Tia’s friendship. It was so easy and cute. I loved the progression too. Cole dove in head first, but Tia held off. She wanted to make sure she could handle everything that would come with having a future with Cole.

Cole is such a lovable golden retriever. Such a romantic too. I love the way he loves Tia.

"I don't want just your friendship, I want all of you. Tia, I love you, you take up my whole heart and soul. I want you as mine, and I want to be yours."

Tia’s journey to finding her passion and her place was uplifting. She knew what she wanted and she went for it and kept trying.

The story was well balanced between everyday life and emotions and the life of military service. It was beautifully done with love and respect for all those who sacrifice and serve, their families included.

Add in a great group of supportive friends and an adorable Aunt Mari who brings laughter and heart and you’ve got a touching story full of love and hope.

Prior to this, my only glimpse into Navy life came in the form of Top Gun. Now I'm basically an expert, thanks to this love letter to the Navy that @hopesnyder_writer expertly crafted.
.
My dad was in the Air Force when I was really young, and I spent my early childhood near an Air Force base. The Air Force is familiar to me. It was fun to get a glimpse into a different branch of the military.
.
Yes, this is a romance, but I think that is secondary to the beautiful family relationships, found family relationships, and quest to figure out what you want in life that really make this story special.
.
My daughter is an artist with ambitious goals in mind after high school. Watching Tia embrace her art, and seeing her family disparage her passion really clicked in my head as something to take note of when talking with my daughter about her plans for the future.
.
If you're looking for a fun escape with some deep life lessons for good measure, Care for this Love might be for you!
.
Thanks for the ARC, Hope! I would have read this love story anyway. 🥰

There is so much to love in this book! I have very little experience with the armed forces, but this book deepened my respect for all of the wonderful people who serve in our military, and even more importantly all of their family members who support them.

The setting of San Diego was so fun, I love a good book with lots of beach visits. The romance between Cole and Tia was tanglible and kept me reading way past my bedtime. I loved their connection, from the very beginning and found myself grinning each time their relationship developed. Hope Snyder's gift for writing relatable characters is amazing, I found Tia's inner turmoil of being connected to her Mexican heritage but not feeling completely immersed in her culture fascinating. Tia's Aunt was the best Mexican Tia I've ever found in a book!

Overall this was a fantastic book. A clean romance with only kissing described. Thank you to the author for the advance copy of this book. A review was not required.

This was so well done. From Tia's coming into her own and choosing to grow at every opportunity to Cole's respectful persistence, these characters are so well developed.
I loved the mutual soul deep encouragement that Tia and Cole gave to each other. They just kept showing up - even when the future was uncertain. I also love their shared understanding of the brokenness that comes from previous so's that were caustic and careless.
Beautiful poetic moments, lovely word landscapes, stunning swoon, and the safety of found friend family. I loved it so much. This is a new favorite for me.
Favorite scenes include the portrait, the truck, and the epilogue.

Care for This Love was such a sweet read!! It's the perfect Navy love story (OK, it's the only one I've read with that theme so far), featuring Tia and Cole's story. I mean, a girl who finds herself and her career in life, and the corpsman who's also her soccer playmate and one of the most romantic military heroes I've read in a while? *sigh* It was done so well that I didn't even miss his POV (and that's a major feat!)

This definitely reads as the author's love letter to the Navy, both to the ones enlisted and the ones supporting them (family and friends), and it was so fun getting to see and understand that world bit by bit through Tia's eyes! But what I really enjoyed was the Hispanic representation in this book through Tia and her family (especially her great aunt, what a hoot!) It really reminded me of my family and all the inspiring women I look up to (from my grandma to my mom and some aunts), as well as reminded me of the culture and places I still want to visit and experience. Be prepared for all the food and soccer mentions (who knew they paired up so well? 😉) as well as all the walks on the beach and painting references to your heart's content. 🤗

Another theme I loved was the importance of family (both by blood and found) and how truly special they can be when faced with life's ups and downs. I loved Tia's support group with Anisha, Sarah, Jules, and Lorraine, and Cole's with Denny, Luko, and Carson. I wouldn't mind reading more about these last three, but we'll see whose story is the next one in this series. Completely recommended to anyone looking for a fresh Sweet Navy Romance that delivers both the real outlook in life as well as all the swoony moments.

Care for this Love was, hands down, one of the best novels I've read in a while. From the very start, the story of Tia and how she meets Cole pulled me in to feel like I was right there with them. The different themes of art, soccer, San Diego, and the military were all very well researched and written on. Being a former military spouse, I was able to relate to the many feelings and emotions that one goes through when loving a service member. I love how Hope Snyder integrates romance into the story while keeping it classy and tasteful. Even though I would love to hear more about Tia's and Cole's story, I feel the story came to a great conclusion. This book is a great read with love, passion, romance, courage, and bravery and will be a great title to add to your collection.

I am completely stunned that this is a debut novel! Hope Snyder hit it out of the park!

The character development, the engaging story, the heart and humor, longing and friendship were all written so beautifully.

I loved the way the romance developed and how the daunting vision of navy life was not swept aside, but delved into. I loved how the characters listened to each other and took the time to understand not only each other's feelings and fears, but their own as well.

This book is so good!!! The friendship was so well written and the love story was well paced and beautiful.

This is a clean romance, but don't let that fool you...the tension and chemistry between Tia and Cole is off the charts.

I can not wait to see what this author writes next, but whatever it is I can guarantee I will be lining up to read it! New auto-buy author for me!

I was thrilled when I learned that Hope was releasing her 2nd book!! She surely knows how to pull you into her stories and become cheerleaders for her characters. I absolutely loved this story and took my time reading it as the main character Tia spoke closely to my heart.

Her journey of finding her love of art again, walking into purpose and allowing the unknown to guide her with faith reminded me to trust the process.

As a military spouse myself this story resonated and took me back to those first years where so many uncertainties felt unbearable. Do I? Do I not? Knot? I don’t know anything about the military??

I love Cole’s longing to want to find stability, his compassionate heart.

Hope has a beautiful way of bringing these real life situations to life through her writing.

Excited for what the future is holding to release through this precious author.

It’s funny. It’s sweet. It’s cute. And the passionate chemistry between the FMC and the MMC is *chef’s kiss*

Highly recommend (⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️). The author Hope very clearly researched for this book and I appreciated the info was sprinkled in a natural progression of convo between the characters. The writing, story and pace were great. I enjoyed seeing glimpses of growth throughout rather than on major epiphany. The flirting, and kisses made me smile like an idiot while reading. I appreciated the raw emotion in the conversations between Cole and Tia. Super cute. Very thoughtfully written. Much love! 💕

3.5 ⭐️

This was an adorable romance between a Navy corpsman and an artist who meet playing recreational soccer. Admittedly, the first half was a bit slow. Cole was dating someone else and Tia had just been broken up with. The drama around their other relationships felt a bit unnecessary.

The second half was so sweet though. These two were just falling fast and hard and it was super cute. Cole’s family was great, their friends were fun and Tia’s hesitation to fall for a military man was relatable and added some angst.

My favorite parts were changing Tia’s tire, the jellyfish sting, Cole’s brothers, an early morning hike and a heart wrenching goodbye at the beach. ;)

Deep and real

I loved this story! Tia moved from fearful and tentative to joyful courage as she found her muse, her career, and her love. I loved the Spanish (accurate and no translation 😊), the descriptions of DC life, soccer, painting, corpsman studies, and so on. I’m looking forward to Denny and Ellis’ story.

I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review. This is book 1 in the My Navy Romance Series and can be read as a standalone. Care for this Love is told through Tia's pov and is a touching story about true love and sacrifice.

CW: a few choice words, abandonment, loss, and toxic relationships
Spice: descriptive kisses that don't get too heated

After the way her relationship ended and leaving an unfulfilling job in DC, Tia was determined to spend time on the things that she actually enjoyed. I liked how she challenged herself and didn't give up but rather put in the work to get better at whatever she was trying. Like her, Cole was also driven and gave it his all in his job as a Navy corpsman. Though neither was looking for love or a relationship, they couldn't deny the pull that they felt towards each other. Because of the nature of Cole's job, things weren't easy and I liked seeing Tia share her concerns and thoughts. The author did a great job in making you felt what Tia felt and creating the right amount of tension between Tia and Cole. Aside from the romance, I really enjoyed Tia's individual to find herself and the friendships that she made. I look forward to reading more about them as the series continues.
