Following the loss of the life she thought she was coming home to, Leanna LaFleur is forced to come to terms with who and what she is willing to sacrifice in order to finally find peace and purpose in her life. Continuing on her journey, Leanna travels from the Cape Breton Highlands to a hidden ashram on the Guatemalan border of southwest Mexico to face her darkest fears. Straining against traditional societal roles and expectations surrounding motherhood, Leanna journeys to the darkest corners of her psyche in a maternal metamorphosis that threatens to annihilate her fully. Without a maternal compass to guide her, she relies on the support of newfound friends and gurus she meets along the way to help shape her into the woman she has always been too afraid to become. Of Mòinteach + Mantras gives voice to the lonely death and rebirth all mothers experience in the act of surrendering who you are in order to embrace who you are becoming.
I cried three times today wishing the first 120 pages. It definitely speaks to the mother’s soul. Especially if you have ever struggled with any mental health or trauma issues after giving birth.
Leanna’s healing journey was great to read with lighter side stories so it didn’t feel too heavy.
I honestly was sad when it ended. The characters are ones I hope to see again (I definitely need more of them).
Of Mointeach + Mantras by Amanda Crewe is the highly anticipated follow-up to her novel Of Peat Moss + Prayers.
This is the continuing story of Leanna LeFleur, after the death of her Father, her house burning down, and the beginning of her new relationship with Everette. This story begins with her journey of becoming a new mom starting with a complicated birth, her difficulties adjusting to the role of a Mom without a mother role- model, postpartum depression; sleep deprivation, extremely heavy menstrual cycles, incontinence, and having difficulties communicating her feelings or issues. She is grieving her father’s death, does not want to take drugs for the depression, or wear adult diapers this early in life, and doesn’t know what is wrong with her. She feels like she has no one to talk to about her difficulties even if she could articulate them to anyone. Her friend Cathy introduces her to Keighli who is a Reiki master and yoga instructor and together the three of them travel to a hidden ashram in Mexico.
This story is about Leanna's mental and physical journey to healing and adjusting to motherhood. It is also an inspirational story to women everywhere, but especially to those who have struggled with motherhood, postpartum depression, and the other sometimes unpleasant experiences we have after giving birth.
“We do the best we can." he continued. "It's all we can do. You are surrounded by people who love and support you. Let them inspire you to become the hero of your story instead of the victim.” ― Amanda Crewe, Of Mòinteach + Mantras page 251
In the same way I believe that certain people come into our lives at a specific time to teach us or help us grow, I believe certain characters do too. Leanna and the people she meets in this book have 100% changed me as a person , in the best way. your perspective WILL be changed after reading this beautiful novel. I cried, laughed , got mad , and all the emotions in between. this story broke a part of me open and I'm so grateful. I finished it yesterday and I miss them all already. do yourself a favor and read this book! not only is the story inside beautiful, but the cover is a work of art in and of itself ❤️
Couldn't wait for this continuation of her first book. Again I was enthralled immediately upon the first few pages. A hard look into the effects of different traumatic experiences we all face at one time or another. I'm so relieved this did not follow a typical path, I was able to be surprised more than once, and brought to tears a few times. I loved this telling of Leanna's life. Sorry to see the book end.
