Apocalypse: Regression (Book 5) :

Rate this book
For Nick Gallows, time is everything, his most important resource as he tries to prevent the Apocalypse. Yet, time is also an enemy, a clock ticking down to the death of humanity—and faster than Nick knows. The clandestine Forebears of Ingenga snake their shadowy tendrils through every echelon of society in an effort to expedite the end, and after Nick foiled their plans once, their crosshairs have settled on him and his burgeoning guild. Meanwhile, Nick trains tirelessly and takes on dungeons with his team, but he remains focused on the Endless Night, the day the Apocalypse truly began in his last life, the day horrific monsters, dragons, and flesh-hungry demons rip an unsealable rift between their world and his.

The Endless Night is Nick’s nightmare and Ingenga’s dream. But will Nick and his friends survive the reality?

When time weighs heavily, it's time to hit the weights in this regression LitRPG/Gamelit story of dungeon-diving, leveling, stats, and facing down the apocalypse!

I feel like I could copy and paste my review of book 4 here, only I'll remove a star for no longer giving the book the benefit of the doubt.

In summary, I like the series overall, but the only interesting thing about the action is the outcome. In a series that is getting increasingly action heavy that's a major problem as it means huge chunks of the book are tedious and forgettable.

Not a story - More a running battle

I’ve enjoyed this story for the most part, but this book was more of a running battle. It’s seems like books like this have this flaw. The first couple of books tell a tale - only to switch later on to a running battle. (By running battle, I mean go from one fight to the next for the entire book) That how this book was. I enjoy a good battle scenes, but I want my story. Also, I hope the author decides to explain the old man’s statue. As well as the betrayal. (I’m being vague to help avoid giving too much away.) This was my least favorite book so far but I still will read the next book. The visions? Why? And how? There are too many unexplained things going on in the story. It’s frustrating. Maybe explain some of this, instead of doing detailed battles and dungeons dives. I don’t need overly explained battles. Hopefully I don’t need to explain the overly detailed battle comment. I want the how and why of things and not the - it just is happening assumption without explanation.

What is this mental health Condition book?

So the first book might not explain things and the next books were like a bull in a china shop rampaging through with no planning just going from one thing to the next.

This one though is basically the MC going heavy on his mental health issues in wanting everyone to work out. Almost all the book is just working out, scenes of working out, talking about working out. Doing working out and so on. It gets so bad he can't focus because he's worried about the nutrient facts of a tangerine.

There is being healthy then there is mental condition forcing one to over focus on health. I get it is because his past life he was all poisoned and couldn't do stuff so he's over compensating but it just comes off as a bad read.

It makes the book seem like it was written by some Gym rat health freak author wanting to push some vegan healthy living life focus goals on people and is not fun to read.
If life is so bad he can't enjoy one cup of cocoa then I don't think he's able to enjoy living.

Now besides that horrible life style reading. There is also this weird harem like build up of collecting all the girls around him that is just..gross? Mostly due to him using mind control powers on them and them endorsing it.

I don't know if the author has some twisted all girls listen to me fantasies or something but it comes off as super creepy in the books which the author has the MC's girlfriend try to push as 'it's okay' to mind control people. IT'S NOT. It's gross.. stop it.

Oh it's just what he has to do to save the world? Uh-huh then why was it when he trains those powers he ONLY trains it with women. Not any of the dozens and dozens of men at his guild. Only the cute girls around him. Even gets warning he's warping their personalities and creating damaging physiological changes. But he just shrugs and says what ever, so long as he gets to mind control girls that's fine.

Sick and wrong.
If it was really about charisma training, he'd do it with straight men who wouldn't develop dependency or romantic feelings who would just see him as more of a leader due to it.

Like for the Healer girl. Even his Omni eyes says. DO NOT USE PEP TALK or any charisma based magic on her or it will damage her personality and make her more healing tendency turn more violent. Yet he always includes her even when he doesn't have to.

So yes, I'm dropping this series.
Not sure what the author was thinking but writing this whole let's mind control women fantasy thing makes me think they should seek counseling. It's not a healthy fantasy and I do hope they don't end up causing someone harm.

Still pretty good. There are some things that are getting a little tiring. The whole workout nonstop thing is starting to drag on. Even the most dire of stories need levity and something to look forward to. This book started with Nick not wanting to drink a cup of hot chocolate because of how it might affect his training. He completely overlooks the fact that one cup would actually be beneficial and goes to the worst case scenario of it sapping his energy if he drinks too much. He also complained about having to eat nectarines because his GF peeled them for him. Come on and live a little.

Overall, not bad. My enjoyment took a little bit of a drop in this one but not too bad. I have read better in the genre but I have also read much worse.

Still going strong and a fantastic cliffhanger at the end

The MC continues to struggle against the demon incursions. Now however, we see that a guild believing they are saving humanity are instead likely pawns of an entity they know as Ingenga, who has fed them a prophecy that to save the world, they must break it.

My money is on Ingenga being a sucubus-like demon who has bamboozled those fools, since we know that the results of their actions is an extinction level event in the prior timeline.

The adventure continues and is not getting stale as the MC must overcome not only physical challenges, but must even more than before take on the mantle of leadership. The good news is that he has at least one lead into the Ingenga cult as well as prophetic visions of the charismatic mage queen that faced rifts before.

On another note, I find it amusing that Nick and Seo-ah are training, together, living together and fighting together, yet their relationship is still PG rated. We know that high school aged students have sex, so while I'm all for the writing staying out of the bedroom, its rather unbelievable that after 2-3 years together and being a couple, it's implied that there's no physical intimacy. Even Seo-ah's parents look forward to their engagement and grand-children, so it shouldn't be a surprise. Also with Nick's charisma so high, Seo-ah shouldnt be able to keep her hands off him and the other women around them too. Just sayin'

I look forward to the next book in this excellent series.

I liked this installment in the series, though I can honestly say I didn't understand a lot of the motivations behind many of the characters in the book. Up to now, there's been good solid reasons for what's happening, and everything made perfect sense. But now there's characters who have various reasons for doing things that make no sense, (I'm talking about the actions and the reasons). As a whole though, the story was pretty good, and although the timeline was thrown off by major amounts, I'm now curious how things will pan out, so I'll keep reading, though I'm a bit confused about how many characters are beginning to make no sense, and the whole (what I can only assume is a gag) with the one character saying nothing but hmm and the like, while another character translates those utterances into perfectly understandable phrases is seriously beginning to irritate me. What's the point?

Apocalypse Regression 5

The Red Death is behind them. Nick and his guild were able to mitigate the damage. The problem is that now the Forebears of Ingenga know about him and are determined to stop him from interfering with their plans.

I have really been enjoying this LitRPG regression series! I was pleasantly surprised to find that this was not the finale and we have more coming. The dungeon dives add a lot to the series. The last few hours were intense! Daniel Wisniewski and Elizabeth Plant did a fantastic job with the narration!

Epic. Battle sequences

I enjoyed this one a little less than the others, but I still highly recommend it. The battle sequences are superbly detailed. I am getting a little impatient with the world building and behind the scenes reveals. We are six books in and I think we should have more information.

This series is still going strong which makes me happy. The battles are epic and Nick and his crew keep getting stronger, not necessarily in physical power but in the way they all work together, trust in one another and trust in their leader. Something the other guilds are lacking. The twist and cliffhanger at the end didn't even annoy me 'cause this addition to the series was bloody awesome!

Great iteration of series

A great and suspenseful read that both futures the series and wraps up previous plot points. It's apparent that there is much Nick doesn't know from his past life. Silk written with compelling characters, good pacing, growth, development, and everything you'd want in an action book.

Pretty Solid Book

Not as much character development in this one and mostly just a lot of fighting, but some solid steps were taken to move the story along. My one gripe is that for someone who survived until the end of the apocalypse before, Nick is very unwilling to make hard choices that would keep more people alive and prevent less of the apocalypse from occurring.

Exciting Book 4

This was a great continuation of the series. Sometimes it seemed a little slow moving to me. As I thought last book had more dungeon dives and action. There was plenty of foreshadowing and intrigue that built the story. I'm glad there were a couple dungeon dives but I was just wanting more I guess. Pleased with the ending and can't wait for the next book.

Half baked twice burnt nonsense

Wow I think this is supposed to be the last book but I can't tell. This book goes mostly no where and just runs around in circles..
It's so bad, the plot is a mix and match that really doesn't explain much of anything and just Dead ends with out a clear ending.

dnf. The series really began losing steam after book 1. I dragged myself through books 2-4 on the hopes that the writing quality would improve back to the quality of the first book (spoiler it doesnt). By about mid way through book 5, I was no longer invested at all in any of the characters and was tired of reading about MC pushing workout programs and team spirit.

Regressor story craving has been sated!

Awesome series. One of my favorite Regressor stories. Epic battles, MC has a cool unique charisma based class, great pacing and story intensity, and the world building is super fun. Loved it.

Great read

A great follow up to the series. Although maybe a recap at the beginning would be helpful to remember everything going.on.

Lots of talk about going to the gym and then there's some fighting.

Nothing about the book made me want to read more or care about anything or anyone in the story.

Will not continue the series.

I guess I’m invested

Still like the series, but it seems like some sloppy writing/ plot points near the end of the book also.
