Twenty years after tragedy tore them apart, four sorority sisters still can’t say no to sweet Mary Blake Bulloch. Reeling from a public divorce, Mary Blake rallies the group to complete a long-ago road trip cut short by scandal, betrayal, and the death of a Texas oilman’s son.

Time hasn’t healed all wounds. Helen's hiding a crumbling marriage. Charlie's haunted by a deathbed promise. Annesley's harboring life-changing news. And Lisa knows her decades-long silence about what really happened that fateful night could cost her everything—and everyone.

As the women pick up where they left off, old alliances shift and long-buried memories surface. What started as a reunion becomes a reckoning, forcing each woman to decide what matters more: the comfort of silence or the brutal cost of truth.

"The Last Road Trip" is a masterfully layered novel about the transformative power of friendship–and the bad decisions that get in the way.

This was the perfect summer read! Five sorority friends embarked on a "take 2" of a cross country roadtrip after a tragedy cut their original road trip short. This is a good book to read on vacation when you read it everyday. With five main characters, it was easy to get them confused. I would have preferred one less character and stronger character development..but....Overall, a solid storyline for a good summer read.

TITLE: The Last Road Trip
AUTHOR: Jennifer Klepper
PUB DATE: 02.10.2025

The Last Road Trip is a masterfully layered novel about the transformative power of friendship–and the bad decisions that get in the way.

THOUGHTS:

I love road trips! For me, the journey is the best part and not the destination. The Last Road Trip is an absolute delight to read with some of the best characters that have become my own bosom buddies. Each of the characters' back stories were as interesting as the next and unveiling their secrets was the best part.

Through each of their life's obstacles and challenges finds a glimmer of hope. In a way, I found a bit of myself in each of these ladies to connect with and the hopeful message for me was the best part.

I truly enjoyed this sentimental novel about friendships, struggles, hopes, and dreams. Fantastic!

Thank you to my partner, Suzy Approved Book Tours, and the author. I appreciate the gifted paperback and fun PR items! I am leaving this review voluntarily!

1. 𝐃𝐮𝐚𝐥 𝐓𝐢𝐦𝐞𝐥𝐢𝐧𝐞 • The intermixing of the past and present allow the reader to experience both road trips as if she is with them. It all leads up to the night that ultimately changes everything - more for some than others.

2. 𝐀𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐦𝐩𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 • It seems to be human nature to see things in only one perspective. Why is it easier to build up anger and resentment instead of chasing the truth? These women learn that so many things in life could have been different if only words would have been spoken.

3. 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐞𝐲 • Such a diverse group of characters that show the reader the chasm between the wealthy and the not-so-wealthy. Money definitely talks, until it doesn’t. I loved the different ways our two wealthy characters matured in the course of the story. It shows that there are some who are able to bridge the gap.

4. 𝐒𝐞𝐜𝐫𝐞𝐭𝐬 • Some secrets need to be shared and some secrets never need to be divulged…to anyone. Just when I thought the big revelation was behind me, there was another curveball that proved this sentiment.

5. 𝐅𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐝𝐬 • What a triumph this story is to the sanctity of friendship. It is easy to drift away from one another, but true friends can reconnect and build an even stronger relationship. These five women grow so much and I found myself inspired to reach out to friends I haven’t spoken with for a while! 🍹Here’s to TooLouLou 🍹

Jennifer Klepper, the Author of “The Last Road Trip” has written a memorable, heartfelt, and captivating story. In this well written story about friendship, the author vividly describes four friends that went on a road trip twenty years ago, and want to repeat the road trip in the present time. The author describes her dramatic and colorful characters as complex, complicated, and flawed. Each of the characters described in the past and present have deep secrets. There are betrayals, lies, and tragic events. In this well paced novel, there is suspense and mystery. Each of the characters have family difficulties, and there are some changes noticed over the years. Decisions and secrets made from the past have a cause and effect reaction.

I appreciate how the author discusses the importance of honesty, communication, sisterhood, the importance of family, friends, love and hope. I highly recommend this thought-provoking novel.

I grew super attached to these four friends as the book tells the story from each of their points of view. It also goes back and forth in time from 2019 and 1999.

1999 was the first trip for these sorority sisters as they are taking one friend from the East Coast to the West Coast for med school. This trip gets cut short in Texas where tragedy strikes and the friendships never really stay the same.

2019 has the roadtrip starting in Texas and ending in California for these friends with a stop at the Grand Canyon.

I loved the layers (and secrets) in this book and how each friend has their own stories to tell in both what happened and what is currently happening.

I also loved the way the dynamics of the friendships are shared in each timeline.

I thought the way we learn about the tragedy which cut the trip short in 1999 was well executed.

I did cry at the end. I’m not a normal book cryer so kudos to the author for making me feel these women and their friendships.

The Last Road Trip is a thought provoking bitter sweet fiction novel that was written so well and was so realistic that it felt more like a memoir. A story of broken friendships, secrets, loss, tragedies, forgiveness, healing, and a reminder that life is too short to live with regrets.

I enjoyed reading this multilayered dual timeline story through multiple POVs of a diverse group of women from different backgrounds. They were so different from each other that it was shocking to see such a group of unlikely friends but they bonded as sorority sisters in college. The story is told through two timelines, present day 2019, and flashbacks to 1999 right after college. In 1999, the group of young adults had started a cross country road trip but it was cut short due to a tragic accident that left them all going their separate ways. Now, 20 years later, obviously as older and wiser adults with more life experiences, they are getting back together to finish the road trip.

I loved that these characters were closer to my age and enjoyed all the reminiscing and nostalgia as the story unfolded along the trip. I also loved the way the story was beautifully wrapped up with an ending that I didn’t see coming. I thought the idea of the ‘Delta Rhoadies Notebook’ and how it was used for the epilogue was a great touch as well. It was an emotional heartbreaking read and heavy at times. I would suggest checking the TW. These women endured so many tragedies and traumas, physically, mentally and emotionally, as a group and individually. I most definitely was able to connect with every character in some way or another but one story hit me personally harder than the others. If you are looking for an emotional book that will break your heart but put it back together by the end, then you should definitely grab this one.

What a fun and entertaining read featuring dual timelines, one from 1999 and one more current, in 2019! Since I was only 8 in 1999, I didn’t have quite the same experiences as these friends did back in 1999 during their road trip, but it definitely gave me all of the nostalgic vibes, and made me miss being a kid in the 90s! I wanted to join them all on their trips together, as they seemed like a great group of friends. The secrets were hard to guess, and I loved the journey! I recommend this one for your book club!

I enjoyed this book so much! I don’t know about elder millennials everywhere else, but the ones I knew were planning road trips with me and the rest of our friends in the 90s and early 00’s. There was always a group of friends who would dream of the cross-country trip, in a 66 Mustang convertible. We would get our kicks on Route 66, take pictures with the roadside attractions, and live the ultimate life of freedom. That particular trip never happened (as adults now, could you imagine? Hell No!) but countless others did with friends and sorority sisters through the years. The Last Road Trip brought all the memories of those adventures back to life.

The Last Road Trip is a fantastic story of five women, who met as pledge sisters in the 90’s. They get back together to finish the trip they started twenty years ago. Just like it always seems to be with old friends, they pick up like they never missed a moment. Old insecurities, power dynamics, irritants and grudges resurface along with the love and friendship. The dual timeline of 1999 and 2019 gave us the backstory to the tragedy and break in the group, while the new story propels us forward. This will be a great summer read, perfect for reading on a plane or laying out by the water. It brings back those memories of road-trips past, the good, the bad, and the rest stops.

Four friends, two road trips with tons of secrets and life struggles made this book incredibly addictive.

I was captivated by the lives of these four sorority sisters. Their friendships had changed since a tragic accident took place during their last road trip together in 1999. Now, twenty years later, they are coming together for another road trip.

I loved how the narrative toggled between the past and present road trips while also providing each woman’s perspective. This approach allowed me to understand these women deeply as past secrets were gradually revealed.

As the story progressed, things started to connect between the two road trips, and I became increasingly attached to these friends. By the time the shocking (and emotional) ending arrived, I was hurting for them. They all had secrets they were keeping from each other: about health, marriage, abuse, and some serious legal matters. But they had each other's backs—the true gift of friendship.

Powerful storytelling, dynamic characters, and a layered plot make this a must-read!

Thank you @jennifer_klepper @redadeptpublishing and @suzyapprovedbooktours for the #gifted book and this is my honest review.

It has been 20 years since the five Delta Rhoadies sorority sisters road trip was cut short by betrayal and death. Mary Blake Bullock is recovering from a divorce and decides to get her sorority sisters together to finally finish the road trip.

The story is told in the POV of each women in dual timelines of 1999 and 2019. Each is holding onto a secret. Helen's marriage is falling apart, Charlie is haunted by a promise to her brother, Annesley is hiding a secret about her health and Lisa is hiding the biggest secret of what really happened that night that ended the first road trip.

THE LAST ROAD TRIP brought back memories of road trips with my friends. I enjoyed getting to know these five sorority sisters and would love to take a road trip with them! Each from a different background and social class. The memories of the first road trip are slowly revealed and new alliances made. Each woman must decide if it is better to keep or reveal their secret.

Some books make you think. Some books make you feel. And every once in a while, a book does both, with such quiet power and grace, you find yourself changed by the final page.

The Last Road Trip is a beautifully told story about friendship, aging, identity, and the messy, meaningful journey of finding peace with your past. Jennifer’s writing is honest and compassionate, weaving humor and heartbreak into a narrative that feels as real as a conversation with someone you love.

The characters are rich and full of contradictions (just like all of us). You’ll root for them, ache with them, and reflect on your own relationships as the miles pass. There’s a tenderness to this story that reminds us that it’s never too late to grow, forgive, or even reinvent who we want to be.

Reading this felt like sitting in the passenger seat with the windows down, music playing, and your heart wide open.

If you love layered storytelling with heart and depth, The Last Road Trip is one you won’t want to miss. I’ll be thinking about these characters for a long time.

This story has multiple aspects, any one of which could make for an engaging story I wouldn’t want to put down. When you weave them all together it results in a fantastic story. The first aspect is a road trip, something that will pull this travel aficionado in all by itself. Wait. Make that two road trips. The story keeps flashing back to the original aborted road trip that inspired the current one, so we get to experience both of them. Then we’ve got the give and take as these old friends try to capture or restore the relationship they had back in college, but we’ve also got an undercurrent of mystery and intrigue as it is obvious there are some things that happened on the original trip that we, and possibly the some of the ladies on the trip don’t all know either. It all makes for a great, intriguing, and intense read that draws the reader in and then won’t let them go.

The only thing I enjoy more than a road trip is a road trip book. The The Last Road Trip is the story of sorority sisters reuniting after a tragedy 20 years ago. Mary Blake is going through a divorce, who orchestrated the women reuniting.

Life is affecting each of them in different ways. Helen’s marriage is troubled. Charlie has something hanging over her head. Annesley has a life altering secret. And Lisa may have the biggest secret of all, from the long ago night that tore their lives apart.

The Last Road Trip is a thoughtful story that unveiled in unexpected ways. There were a lot of moving parts, that works in a great way, never overwhelming the reader. It just added to the surprises. It feels like an adventure ride in many ways, and in the end there was hope. I loved it.

I received a gifted copy.

Five sorority sisters recreate a road trip they took twenty years ago that ended in tragedy. Told across dual timelines, the friends revisit their post graduation trek across the country against the backdrop of their current lives. Each of the women has experienced love and loss, pursued careers, and dealt with personal challenges.

While the story of that original trip slowly reveals itself, the friends are forced to address old wounds and the guilt they’ve carried all these years. Through it all they discover the value and resiliency of friendship and sisterhood despite the passage of time.

Jennifer Keppler has written a book that pulls the reader in with characters that are fully formed and realistically flawed. There is emphasis on reflection, forgiveness, and personal growth. I’m glad I was invited to go along on this journey.

Thank you to the author and Kate Rock Book Tours for the gifted book. All opinions are my own.

The Last Road Trip is a book about friendship, falling apart, and finding a way back together again. Five friends started a road trip after their senior year of college that was cut short by tragedy. Afterward, they went their own way, and their friendship was never the same. Twenty years later, they reunite to finish what they started. As we journey on this trip with them, we delve into dual timelines learning about their past trip and their current one. The writing was completely addictive. I was drawn into the story and their messy, complicated lives. They are all keeping secrets from each other, and as time passes, they have to decide what's more important. Holding everything in or telling each other everything. I wasn't expecting this to be such a deep, emotional journey, and it took me completely by surprise. I laughed, I cried, I felt deeply for these five women by the time I closed the cover of this book.

A tragedy that tore them apart might now be the thing that brings them together.

This book felt nostalgic, touched on things that are so relatable. And at the end, this story will have you yearning to get your girls together, get on the road and learn to not take those friendships for granted!

The Last Road Trip by Jennifer Klepper is an absolutely joyous experience to read!

I love a good road trip story. More than that this character driven story is all about sisterhood and found family.

We see four sorority sisters trying to finish a road trip that was never finished 20 years earlier. The road trip was cut short by secrets and betrayals.

All the girls still have secrets they are hiding.

I really enjoyed the two timelines that were expertly woven.

The characters are well written, complex and flawed.

The power of friendship can heal and sometimes destroy.

Really enjoyed this book so much!

This was a perfect blend of a past road trip and current road trip of 4 (plus a half 😉) sorority sisters. The past one inspired the completion of the current and there are buried secrets and cover ups that will come to light.

I enjoyed reading (even among the struggles) the POV of each woman. They are very well fleshed out characters that I came to care for. There were laughs and tears. There were even surprises once the big buried secret was revealed that made my jaw drop. I hope that you will join this adventure and really come to love this found family and the bond they have that makes them cling to each other in support in times of need.

This book brought back so many fond memories of road trips with friends in my twenties. The characters are relatable and I enjoyed getting to know each one. They all had their own stories past (1999) and present (2019), and I loved getting to hear those stories in their own voices. I was curious and had to know what happened to end their original trip early, and what prompted the trip now. Once I started, I couldn't put this book down. Well-written with heart, humor, and a huge dose of real life challenges, this novel felt like reading a memoir of five best friends and the love they shared for each other.

A group of friends take a road trip to celebrate college graduation when something goes terribly wrong. Twenty years later the friends decide to take another trip. The Last Road Trip was a fun dual timeline story with five pretty great characters. There was such an amazing dynamic between these friends and it was fun to see how their friendship changed between 1999 and 2019.
I was glad to see some twists and turns throughout the book but enjoyed that the ending was wrapped up nicely. It's awesome to see that more authors are writing characters later in their lives. Not all book characters need to be in their early twenties. & it's quite refreshing. lol! This book touched on so many things that were relatable and plenty of witty moments to make you laugh.

In The Last Road Trip, Jennifer Klepper shines a light on the strength and vulnerability of a sisterhood spanning decades. In this beautifully written book, she masterfully plots the highways and dirt roads of five women’s lives that ultimate intersect in a complex journey of pain and joy, fear and courage. She explores the destructive outside forces and inner fears that threaten women’s friendships and diminish their immense collective power. The Last Road Trip is a triumphant story. I didn’t want it to end.

What a great read! I loved the dual timelines and multiple perspectives. I thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each of the five friends. Their stories were all compelling to me and I was really eager to hear about the tragedy that happened on their original road trip. I love a good road trip story and it was an added bonus that these college friends reunited after many years to road trip together again. This book felt so real and relatable and I think there was something for most everyone in this heartwarming story.

I don’t usually gravitate toward dual timelines—one almost always leans tragic—but this one felt thoughtfully balanced. Alongside themes of sisterhood and loyalty, the historical backdrop added depth without overwhelming the story. By the end of each road trip, I felt a genuine connection to all four women, as if I’d shared parts of their journeys.

At its core, this book explores the search for one’s “tribe” in a nuanced way. If you appreciate character-driven narratives that gently weave past and present, you’ll find this novel a quietly satisfying read.

Don’t you just love it when a book sounds so good and it lives up to your expectations?! These sorority sisters were inseparable until an accident during a road trip. Twenty years ago. The dual timeline features the original road trip and the recent one. If a dual timeline isn’t enough, it’s also told in multiple POV of the friends. This allows the reader to invest in the characters. Slowly, the story builds as the plot layers and secrets are revealed. The ending is mind-blowing. It was everything I expected and more.

So, coming into this book, I was prepped to love it.

I LOVE BEING RIGHT.

It’s got dual timelines, and flawed (but GOOD) characters, and strong female friendships, and secrets, and tragedy and forgiveness and JUSTICE.
