A young woman wakes up as a soul and is not quite alive but not yet dead. Vanessa meets the knowledgeable yet elusive Katia, and together they search for her physical body before Death catches her. With an ominous figure chasing them, Vanessa realises safely crossing into the afterlife will be more difficult than she could ever imagine.
Between Layers - Season 1 is an incredibly gripping story circling around our main character, Vanessa, as she faces many dangers and finds her way through her own trauma. The characters she meets along the way are fighting their own battles, with one being more sinister than the rest. The back stories of each character pull at your heartstrings and make you root for them even when they’ve gone down the wrong path. This story is written in script format, and while I haven’t read anything in this style since high school, I found it very easy and interesting to follow! It also helps that the story hooks you from start to finish, there’s always twists and turns and some sort of action or gripping back story happening, so reading through it is a breeze. I thoroughly enjoyed how the story was so diverse in its characters as well as its change of settings. As I stated earlier it definitely hooks you because it’s never boring! I’d highly recommend this and I’ll have to warn you—the ending WILL make you yearn for more!
This book or most exactly this screenplay, is way more than a fantasy story. It's really about the weakest of the main characters at the beginning drawing an arc up to the end where she becomes stronger. cleaver story telling. The other characters are the perfect accompanions to carry the stories, especially with Katia, who shine through the last three episodes.
This story is really more about reading between the lines! strong mental health themes.
This story leaves you on the edge. The last three episodes took me by surprise that this unexpected turn of event. The story revolves around Vanessa, but the second characters of Katia is well written to the point where she is the one that stay on my mind. especially with the episode 6 where a whole episode was written just about her explaining her back story. Best episode of the series to my opinion. I'm looking forward to the next chapter!

Between Layers is a poignant and beautifully layered story that delves into the complexities of identity, memory, and emotional healing. At its core, the narrative follows a character’s journey through inner conflict and self-discovery, framed against a backdrop that blurs the lines between reality and perception. The author masterfully balances introspection with moments of external conflict, drawing readers into a world that feels both intimate and surreal. The prose is evocative, often poetic, and invites readers to reflect on their own hidden layers. Themes of isolation, transformation, and connection resonate deeply, making the story both a personal and universal experience.
Overall, Between Layers is a captivating narrative that rewards patience and introspection. It’s a story that lingers in the mind, urging readers to look beyond the surface, in fiction and in themselves.
What an epic story! At start I wasn't sure where the story was headed. It was my first time reading a script format but I got used to it. The story has a lot of self healing along the characters and that story was written to help with their healing. Quite cleaver.
