Faith, fame, and family collide as a Christian music power couple hides a secret discord.

After living life in the limelight, Ezra and Martha Falconer have drifted apart and wonder if they can ever blend in harmony again now that they’re singing in different keys.

Author Mila Holt explores how achieving differing levels of success affects marriage and if love is enough to mend the widening chasm.

Ezra, a songwriter and musician, can’t bring himself to support his wife because he feels that her new image compromises her integrity.

Martha (Morgan) has lost her moorings because she’s forgotten where her hope truly lies. She chose to put her trust in those responsible for her stardom only to discover that they didn’t have her best interest at heart.

Holt’s story has incredible emotional depth and, although I didn’t feel at first that I could identify with her characters, I soon discovered that I was rooting for them to find their rhythm lost in time. I felt the desperation and the angst when each expressed their anger by lashing out and I yelled aloud at Alex in the final ¼ of the book when I knew more about his ‘smooth moves’ than Morgan did.

My two takeaways?
1) Listen to understand, not respond
2) Be aware of the enemy’s tactics

I recommend this book about finding a path to who we really are.

Buckle up—you’re in for a ride with this one! And I mean that in the best way.

Ezra and Martha Falconer have been harboring secrets—and these secrets are corroding their marriage.

Martha, a once doting housewife, found superstardom as the sultry pop songstress Morgan. Her fans love her but her husband, Ezra, is less than thrilled by her transformation. He’s struggling to see how the woman who loved God is making the choices and compromises she is.

Ezra, a songwriter and avid believer, is struggling to find the success of his glory days in the industry. And while he’s proud of his wife’s talent, he can’t help but feel like this new image she’s building—and the people she’s surrounded by—are driving a wedge between them.

I never wanted to put this book down! I was drawn into the story from the first chapter. The faith elements were well-done, the redemption arc was great, and the drama and tension were so well-written!

This is my first Milla Holt book, but it won’t be my last! Already planning to go back and read Levi’s story.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from the author. All opinions are my own.

Ezra and Martha Falconer’s marriage hits a rough patch when Martha goes from a quiet, supportive wife to a glamorous singing sensation, leaving Ezra struggling with her transformation and his career struggles. As they keep up appearances for fans and family, a high-profile charity album forces them to face their growing disconnect.

This is a book I picked up and didn’t put down until I was finished. I have the stiff joints to prove it. No amount of discomfort from sitting all day would have stopped me from reading this.

I am so oblivious to the obvious. I read through this book and kept wondering why Martha was so emotionally wrecked by Ezra’s relationship with his business partner Liz. When Holt spelled it out to me, I was devastated that I did not realize this truth. It was at that moment that Martha opened up to Ezra about everything, I was emotionally wrecked. While I hadn't connected with her feelings until that point, in that instant everything clicked in my heart and head and I was emotionally wrecked.

This book spoke to the boundaries of marriage that can be blurred even without physical intimacy outside of marriage. It is raw and real. It also highlighted that we are children of God and our worth is not found in the things of this world. God's values are not on physical appearance, wealth, or fame and that’s not where we should place our values either.

This book is perfect for readers who enjoy emotionally deep stories about marriage, faith, and personal transformation. If you enjoy stories that weave faith into real-life struggles, this one is for you.

This book turned out to be different than what I was expecting. Based on the summary I was expecting to read about a marriage in trouble because the shy, frumpy wife was now more successful than her husband who was used to being the star in the family. This couldn’t have been more wrong. I thought I’d be team Morgan/Martha because she had lost the weight, gained confidence and become successful. Instead I found myself surprised that I disliked her character so much. She was a Christian, and her husband’s career was in Christian music while she had chosen to become a pop star. Yet, she didn’t think there was anything wrong with not discussing her career decisions with her husband, or why he might be disappointed she was doing lingerie photo shoots, sexy videos and provocative dance moves. She surrounded herself with people that didn’t share her faith and even mocked her husband.

While Ezra was not blameless his bad decisions seemed more clueless than purposeful. He didn’t know how his friendship with a colleague had made Martha feel. He also was slow to realize the person he considered his friend had ulterior motives. Once he was made aware he made changes to distance himself from this person to protect his marriage.

Even though there were a lot of decisions made by the characters that I was surprised by I appreciated that this Christian romance story is more raw than the usual. In terms of music think of this book as Christian rock compared to Sunday morning choir. So many times the books I’ve read in this category gloss over problems quickly and a lot of times unrealistically. This book tackled a lot of issues in their marriage, careers, friendships and their spiritual relationships. It shows life can be messy, and reminds us how distance and lack of communication can let people grow apart. It also showcased how grace and forgiveness are necessary to be given and received. I received a complimentary copy of this book, but the opinions expressed are my own.

I could not set this book down! It was an absolutely captivating look into the lives of a married couple who were really and truly struggling. Both of these main characters had made mistakes that were impacting their marriage. They dealt with fame and fortune and people who were more interested in promoting Martha’s, aka “Morgan’s”, career to the detriment of her marriage.

I liked that the story was told from both Martha and Ezra’s points of view. This allowed me to really see both of their hearts. To understand where they were both coming from. It didn’t mean that I approved of all of their reactions and choices, but I could, at least, understand the reasons behind their actions. I loved the strong faith message throughout the book and that Ezra took the counsel he received from his pastor to heart. The way Ezra approached and treated Martha from that point forward was very much a turning point in their marriage and showed how much he truly loved her.

I wondered how the author was going to bring these two together and guide them through all of the troubles they faced. But she did it. I absolutely could not stop reading this book until I knew how things would end. This is the first book that I have read by this author and even though it is book two in the series, I didn’t have any trouble starting with this story and loving it.

I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are my own.

This book is one of the most emotionally charged books I’ve read in a long time and absolutely wonderful at the same time. This is not a typical romance but so much more — no cookie cutter here.

Reading Ezra and Martha’s story is sometimes gut wrenching, sometimes sweet, and very honest. As a reader I was drawn into their journey to communication, faith, and trust that made this romance so much better. The characters are authentically flawed and yet redeemable. I rooted for them throughout the story, sharing their tears and triumphs.

I will definitely be reading this one again. Highly recommended!

Small Town Harmony is the second book in Milla Holt's Rhapsody of Grace series. The series follows three brothers and is best read in order.

Set in the UK, this story follows Ezra and Martha (aka Morgan). For the last three years of their marriage, Martha has been on tour and Ezra has not been going with her. This, among other things, has put a serious strain on their marriage.

Ezra and Martha have both made mistakes. They have both put other things or people above their marriage and have not had good communication. Martha finally comes home from the tour, but she is bitter about rumors of Ezra, and insecure. Instead of talking to him at any point in their marriage (the issue has been ongoing for years), she simply doesn't talk to him about it, while the issue festers.

Martha is too naïve at times. She has traveled around the world and is old enough to realize that her actions have consequences. There is a particular scene in the story where I am really mad at her and the stupid decision she made (you will know when you get there).

Marriage is a balance acting. It thrives on honest communication, and it shrivels up when we allow things to come between us. That is this story. The delicate art of trying to figure out where they went wrong, and how they can find their balance again. They are both at fault, but they are also both willing to work on their marriage.

This story would stay with me when I would sit it down to go do other things. I was trying to take a nap but I couldn't because I was stewing over Martha's decisions 😂. As you read, you feel like you are part of the story, watching it play out in real-time. I finished it a few days ago, and I am still thinking about it.

I enjoyed the story. It tackled meatier issues without feeling too heavy. The author handled the topic well, the story moved at a steady pace, and both main characters experienced measurable character growth. I was not quite ready to leave this family behind. I can't wait to read Zach's story in Old Town Symphony.

Thank you to JustReads Publicity for the opportunity to read this book. I was not required to provide a positive review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

This is a heart-warming, gripping story, the second in a series. I think it could be read as a stand-alone, but it definitely makes more sense if you read the first one (Home Town Melody) first.

The POV in this book keeps switching between Ezra and Martha. They are both sweet, but hurting individuals. I really enjoyed getting to know them and reading their stories. Their marriage is on shaky ground. They still love each other, but it seems like there are just to many obstacles to overcome, too many things trying to drive them apart.

This is a sweet story of love and redemption, of second chances, forgiveness, and much more.

I really enjoyed reading this story, and look forward to reading the final book in this series at some point in the not-too-distant future.

I couldn't put this book down! I read it in two days. If you like Christian Romance, this book has a beautiful story of a married couple that lost their way due to different reasons and must come to terms what it really means to love your spouse in a marriage. The redemption journey they complete is solid and inspiring.

I was a bit reluctant at first to read this story, but once I started reading, I didn’t want to put it down.

This is an impactful story. Having experienced three rocky (and failed) marriages myself, in addition to feeling invisible, I could really resonate with this story.

My first husband and I sang duets together at church, with him playing the guitar. I often felt like my talent was inferior to his. This is one reason this story resonates with me.

I enjoyed seeing the personal and spiritual growth of both Ezra and Martha throughout this story, as well as their attempts to strengthen their marriage.

I received a complimentary copy. These opinions are my own.

Small Town Harmony is the first book I have read written by Milla Holt and I look forward to reading more. This book swept me up from the start.

The character development was amazing. Morgan/Martha had a lot to unpack about her past and insecurities. While Ezra had a lot of issues that he had let sneak in that he didn’t even realize were causing problems. I loved watching the couple go through the issues and figure out how to overcome them, heal the past, and move forward in repairing their marriage.

The storyline and setting were great. I guess I am on a roll reading some different books that talk about repairing marriages. I loved the music aspect of the story. It was a fun setting, and I really enjoyed it.

The romance aspect was great and closed-door. Just the way I like it. Nothing over the top. There was a little spice where it kind of straddled the line of uncomfortable for me. However, I did appreciate that it was within marriage.

Milla Holt did an amazing job intertwining faith throughout the novel. It was encouraging and helped me think of some different ways to help strengthen my own marriage.

Small Town Harmony is a second-chance romance featuring Ezra Falconer, one of three brothers who are part of a well-known British contemporary Christian music band. It's the sequel to Home Town Melody, which was Levi's story.
Ezra and Martha married years ago, when the family band was doing well. It's not doing so well now, but Martha's career has taken off, transforming her into the sultry Morgan, international superstar. As a result, the couple have grown apart, and it's difficult to see how they're going to get back together.

Romances featuring a married couple aren't common, and it can be a difficult plot for an author to set up. Sure, everyone likes the reunion aspect of the romance, but the challenge is always setting up two people who moved apart or broke up, while still giving them a good reason to get back together and a compelling happy-ever-after. Milla Holt does a great job with this.

Parts of the story are hard to read because it's easy to see (and think of) couples who have broken up becuase of what seem like equally irreconcilable differences. It's therefore hard to see how Ezra and Morgan/Martha are going to reconcile and reunite.

But the journey is worth the effort, even in the hard parts (and isn't that a metaphor for life?) Ezra and Morgan are both excellent characters. As the reader, it's easy to see the valid arguments in each of their points of view ... and easy to see where they've possibly gone wrong. But, as in real life, it can be easy to see the problem. Finding the answer is a lot harder.

Because it's a hard topic, Small Town Harmony isn't necessarily the regular easy-to-read peppy Christian romance. But, as in life, the payoff is more than worth the effort.

Recommended for Christian romance fans, especially those looking for married couple or rock star romance.

This was an amazing read. I’m always up for a “rock star romance” or a celebrity romance and this one fits the bill but is a more unique take. Our main characters (Martha and Ezra) are married but have had space put between them due to Martha’s - Morgan’s (her celebrity persona) - pop music tour. This is a Christian contemporary romance and it is within marriage, closed door for spice. I adored it. This book really dives into the pressures and betrayals of the celebrity music world and how successes can draw you further and further away from your roots and desensitize you to being slowly drawn away from your values and the true you. This book goes into forgiveness, true love above all, family, and so much more. It’s incredible. I couldn’t put it down. It may be my top read for this month. I cannot wait for the next book in this series!

I received an ARC of this book via Just Read Tours and am voluntarily leaving an honest review.

First 5 ⭐️ of 2025!

Wow… this book. First I want to say I was just a tad hesitant about diving into this book because I’m not someone who loves books with musicians/musical elements because I’m not very knowledgeable about the music world and the lingo! Let me tell you, I am so glad I did! Not only was this book absolutely phenomenal, but I’ve now found an author that I will continue to read so much more from! I was sent a complimentary ebook from JustRead & Milla, but I had to grab a physical copy of the first book in this series as well as this one!

This book follows our main characters Ezra & Martha. You immediately see their marriage in trouble, but also the points of view (third person) of both characters, which added SO MUCH to the story. This book had me feeling all of the emotions. I was cheering for the main characters while simultaneously really disliking some decisions on both sides… but also still wholeheartedly cheering for them! Not only that, the tension and anger at certain parts… so unbelievably well done! Also, the faith elements were perfection!!! Looking for a book with the most amazing character & relationship development? PICK THIS UP!

OVERALL STAR RATING: 5/5
CLEAN RATING: 5/5

One of the best feelings is when you pick up a book from a new-to-you author and it’s a grand slam home run! This story just flowed so effortlessly, and I was completely invested within the first chapter. Although fun to read, celebrity plots can sometimes be a little hard to digest because they’re not as easy to relate to – but the premise of this one was so incredibly unique you’re going to find yourself immediately sucked in.

Ezra and Martha are well known in the Christian music world - deeply devoted to their faith and church. When Martha’s music career takes off and pulls her down the path of secular music and a sexy new image, Ezra doesn’t even know what to make of what’s happening and their marriage begins to crumble. Martha’s sudden fame, fortune and intense publicity schedule shakes up their life in such an unexpected way. There are very serious trust issues that just keep ripping them apart and Martha finds herself pulling further away from the God she once served.

It's going to take a miracle to mend this marriage. Thankfully miracles are God’s specialty. 😉

I truly can’t say enough good things about this story. Very heavy on the raw and gritty side of a marriage in despair and very heavy on faith elements that can heal the broken. Not everyone is going to relate to sudden superstar status and the way it can fracture relationships, but I guarantee there are going to be parts of this story that you’ll relate to in other ways. The self-doubt, jealousy, temptation, lies and deceit that can take hold of your heart. It’s all there. Although barely holding onto the end of their ropes, Ezra and Martha give their all to climb back to where they know God wants them to be. This was an incredible story, and I can’t wait to read more of Milla’s work.

This book. Just wow!
I don't give out many 5 stars, but this was easily a 5 star for me. It earned each and every one with a plot that kept me up at night. I didn't have the time to read it, but I made time because I needed to know how it worked out.
It's a wonderful portrayal of a couple in crisis and near breaking point. It balances so well the pain, the reactions we so naturally do and shouldn't, and even the moments when someone looks past themselves for the better of their spouse. I loved how Holt balanced all those strong emotions and how the couple try so hard to hold on to one another.
I sided with Ezra easily in the beginning, but as the book progresses, I got to know Martha. Could see how they had both gotten where they had, how both had flaws, and the pace of the plot is so gripping.
It's raw and emotional and real.
While it has, on a technicality, two fade to black scenes between the married couple, it was so masterfully handled that it didn't leave me feeling like I intruded (unlike most fade to black scenes). One frequent point of the book is protecting the sanctity of a marriage's intimacy, and the subtle and graceful way the author wrote those moments honoured the privacy of a couple. I really appreciated that.
I loved the opening line about Ezra's speech being a masterclass in hypocrisy. I loved Martha's line about realizing that only God's strength was strong enough to hold them, that only God was perfect enough to never make a mistake. I also loved the songs and the way the author used music throughout the story to both cause friction and bring the couple together.
This was such a wonderful, encouraging book about marriage. Very uplifting and wonderful.

Let me introduce you to Small Town Harmony. An unassuming name for a life-changing book.

We meet the characters, Ezra and Martha, when their marriage is on the fritz. And I mean, really on the fritz. So many times throughout this compelling story, I wondered how can this couple's relationship be salvaged? There are plot-twists. There are villains. There are secrets. So many secrets. And then...there's God. God can salvage any relationship.

Small Town Harmony is powerful, emotionally gripping, and heart-wrenching. You will travel through a range of emotions as you read, each one deserved. The ride is worth it. In this high-stakes story, Milla graciously tackles modesty and pop culture, as well as appropriately addressing the sanctity of marriage, intimacy, and sensuality--showing it to be a tender and holy thing that needs protection, not promotion.

Within the pages of Small Town Harmony, you'll find wonderful lessons woven throughout without ever coming across preachy, a beautiful example of how marriage is meant to be selfless, not self-serving, and how we are to love each other as Christ loves the church. The imagery and scenes of the music industry feel incredibly authentic, and there are gorgeous original lyrics on-page.

If you want to feel deep emotions as you read and be ready to triumph in this couple's inspiring journey back to love and the Lord, then read this book. And that's all I have to say.

The Rhapsody of Grace series with Small Town Harmony and the stories of the Falconer brothers. In this book, Holt focuses on Ezra and his wife Martha (or is it Morgan - her stage name).
Martha has been touring as singer Morgan. She has become very well-known, models lingerie, and has a perfume line releasing soon. Ezra is also a musician, currently as a songwriter, although he has performed in the past. They were both very active in their church at the start of their marriage. However, as her popularity grew, Martha strayed away from the church and seems to be listening more to worldly influences than Biblical ones.
Holt writes the plot so that Martha begins to see the truth about what Ezra has been saying - that her actions have become more risque than he feels comfortable with. A false accusation by a fellow songwriter brings the two closer together after some rough marriage patches. I love the redemption visible in this story.
I look forward to reading the continuing story of the Falconer family as Holt continues the Rhapsody of Grace series.
Small Town Harmony is written for the adult audience. I would recommend K-12 Christian school librarians read the book themselves to determine if it is appropriate for their audience. I would mark it high school only if I placed it in a school library.

WOW! This story was truly intense and amazing. Just looking at the cover and the name, I certainly did not expect the page-turning intensity that it delivered. My heart was racing in many parts of this story and I didn't want to stop until I got to the very end. I read this book as an ARC and want to thank the author for the opportunity to read it. The editing was as close to perfection as it could get, so it was pure reading enjoyment.

Reading about artists and how they manage the changes in their lifestyles as their fame grows seems to be a predominant factor in books that I selected to read in the past few months. So many things can go great or go wrong, and as you read about Ezra and 'Morgan', you will see that there can be many pitfalls as they struggle to maintain a lifestyle that they are comfortable with, while still growing their music and their fame, and keeping pace with the industry while maintaining their integrity.

Well done, Milla Holt! I think this is your best ever!

Excellent Christian love story of a couple struggling in their marriage. The first half or so had a decent amount of angst and both the MMC and FMC were afraid to open up to each other. As the story went on, they both started opening to each other more and the story became lighter. I laughed out quite a few times. The characters were well developed and I was drawn into the story right from the start. The book is solidly Christian with scripture, prayer, and Godly advice throughout the book. I enjoyed reading this book and recommend reading it!!

Small Town Harmony has everything you want to experience while reading about two people trying to find their purpose as individuals and as a couple. This story has all the "feels." Beautiful and ugly. Joyful and sad. Funny and not funny. These are just a small amount of "feels" I had while reading. If you're a music fan, you will also find alot to connect with. Even before this book, I was a fan of Milla Holt's. However, I think this is her best one yet. Can't wait to read her next book!

Ezra loved and married Martha as Martha: a small town girl, frumpy and shy. But once she developed the confidence to perform and her incredible voice was discovered, she became Morgan: glamorous, famous and rich. Worse, with her touring, they seemed to spend more time apart than together, and now he hardly knows the woman she's become. He still wants the sort of marriage they had - but are they different enough now that their harmony has become discord? Of course, their marriage isn't helped by his career sinking as hers rises, her fears of 'another woman' and a manager who's more interested in the money she can generate than her wishes. Can they ever return to true harmony?

This was an amazing and inspiring read, possibly even better than book 1 (which I loved). I love the theme of redemption, and this has it in spades. Ezra and Martha both have a long way to go to sort things out, and while a far from easy journey, it's well worth seeing. I appreciated the support both had from friends, with the words of wisdom that entailed, and particularly appreciated the way that God is brought into it - after all, he is meant to be our guide. Of course, we also have a couple of wonderful(!) villains, who are doing their best to scuttle any hope of restoration for reasons of their own, and I was only ever cheering for them to get their comeuppances. The book also touches on the awkward question of online accusations, true or false (particularly involving men versus women), and the appropriate response when neither side can prove what they say. All in all, a great story and I'm looking forward to book 3 (note that each can be read as a standalone, though they share characters). Highly recommended.

Note that I received a complimentary copy of the book from the author. I was not required to write a positive review and this is my considered opinion of the book.

If you are looking for an emotional Christian romance, this book really hits the spot!

Small Town Harmony by Milla Holt explores a married couple that has grown apart.
Martha and Ezra met years ago at a karaoke event where Martha blew the crowd away with her singing. Ezra was a rising star in the Christian music scene. Martha supported Ezra, but started to feel left out, and worse, left behind. Ezra had a safe and stable upbringing, while Martha lacked a stable home life. The more time Ezra stayed away from home working on his music, Martha’s insecurities worsened.

Fast forward to present time and Martha (Morgan) is now a pop sensation, She has transformed her body, style, and musicality. Ezra is still writing songs, but for other people. His own solo album didn’t quite make the sales he was hoping for.

Martha is back home from her tour and she and Ezra haven’t seen each other in eight months. Things are tense, Martha isn’t the same woman she used to be. Can they find their way back to each other?

I really enjoyed this book. Hope and faith were elements throughout the story. I was really rooting for this couple. I appreciated the way the author focused on their struggles. It made them seem more real.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are my honest opinion.

Wow. What a story start. The husband is a music artist. He’s been in the business for a while and he’s struggling. Meanwhile, his wife Martha is the shy type. But then both their worlds are thrown upside down when she’s discovered to have a superstar singing voice and thrown into the limelight. Not only is she now a star but she loses 100 pounds and changes to the stage name of Morgan.

Whew. Are you still following?

That’s got to create a lot of feelings. He has to be running through a lot of them. Her too. But what will they settle on?

With her on a sellout international tour, they grow apart. And it feels like the distance just grows greater. But then they’re asked to work together. They’ve told no one of their struggles. Can they continue to hide it all? Will they be able to overcome the giant space between them?

This was a sweet romance novel. I enjoyed reading it. It’s part of a series so do check the rest of the books out.

I really enjoy Christian Romance books. Small Town Harmony by Milla Holt is Book 2 in the Rhapsody of Grace series. I read Book 1 in this series and I recommend reading the series from the beginning.

I can honestly say that this book was a book that I couldn't put down. The storyline is strong from Chapter 1 and doesn't let up. This book is Ezra and Martha's story. They have been married for a few years and their marriage has been on rocky ground for a time now. The marriage started failing when Martha made the choice to tour as a Musician in a Secular world. The couple are Christian, but Martha has chosen the Secular world over her Faith and Marriage. Ezra wants to do everything possible to save their marriage. Martha is very focused on her career. She isn't swayed to trust Ezra and more importantly God until she is accused of something that could ruin her career and definitely her marriage. I really LOVE that Martha becomes more aware of how her lifestyle and career focus has not been God Pleasing. The book is one of Forgiveness, Redemption and Faith. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Christian Romance books. GREAT BOOK!

I enjoyed the first book in the Rhapsody of Grace series, so I was excited to dive into the next instalment. The writing, as always, is top-notch, and Milla does a fantastic job of creating a rich, engaging story. That said, I did find myself struggling to connect with Ezra and Martha (also known as Morgan). The central themes of miscommunication, insecurity, and the consequences of our choices stand out in this book.

It’s a story about learning to navigate the complexities of relationships and an understanding that the things we wish for can come with unexpected challenges. The couple's journey toward healing and restoring their marriage is both heartfelt and realistic, and Milla does an excellent job of weaving in elements of faith throughout their experience.

While I had some difficulty getting into the story at first, I found myself invested in the characters’ growth as the narrative progressed. I’m looking forward to the final book, Old Town Symphony, to see how it all comes together.

Fascinanting story about the music industry, woman empowerment, body image and more importantly about keeping a Christian marriage intact.

The story follows a married couple through ups and downs. Ezra Falconer, who with his brothers, Zach and Levi had been in Falconers, a famous Christian band, and his wife Martha, a “pleasantly fluffy woman” who had lost 100 pounds and turned into a “elegant lissome vision” and “England’s fastest-rising music sensation” are the central characters. Lots of changes, but they also had strong foundations of family and church friends. Normally I do not follow current music trends and really found this part of the book both informative and a bit disturbing. I could not put this book down.

Full disclosure, I received an advanced copy as part of the author’s review team.

Thanks be to God.
