Book Eight in the MacFarland Ranch series, The Cowboy’s Unshakeable Love, is Travis and Retta’s love story.
Travis left Montana years ago, along with Cash and Mav MacFarland and a bunch of their friends. After serving in the Navy together, he stuck with Cash and Mav when they set up their own private security company.
His last few visits back to Paradise Valley have made him wonder if it’s time to come home. He’s the life-and-soul-of-the-party kind of guy and ever since he first met Retta, he can’t help but think that he might be ready to turn his life into a private party for two.
Retta Rayne lives with a lot of regrets. She couldn’t be prouder of her daughter, Callie, but she wishes that she’d been able to give her a better childhood. As far as Retta’s concerned, Callie’s successful in spite of her – even though Callie says it’s because of her.
All that matters is that Callie’s built a great life. Yes, she’s made a name for herself as one of country music’s biggest names, but more importantly, she’s found a good man in Kolby MacFarland. He’s made her part of his family and given her the kind of love Retta always wanted for her.
Although Retta’s happy that her daughter’s found love, she’s under no illusions that she might do the same – she gave up on that idea years ago. Sure, Travis Duke – one of Kolby’s brother’s friends - is charming, and sexy, and funny and … everything she ever used to want in a man. But her days of wanting a man are in the past.
She had her chances, and she messed them up. Now that her daughter is happy and settled, Retta’s content to live out a quiet little life alone.
Travis has other ideas for her, though, and there is nothing quiet - or little - about that man!

Hi, I'm SJ. A coffee addict, lover of chocolate and drinker of good red wines. I'm a lost soul and a hopeless romantic. Reading and writing are necessary parts of who I am. Though perhaps not as necessary as coffee! I can drink coffee without writing, but I can't write without coffee.
I grew up loving romance novels, my first boyfriends were book boyfriends, but life intervened, as it tends to do, and I wandered down the paths of non fiction for many years. My life changed completely a couple of years ago and I returned to Romance to find my escape.
I write 'Sweet N Steamy' stories because to me there is enough angst and darkness in real life. My favorite romances are happy escapes with a focus on fun, friendships and happily-ever-afters, just like the ones I write.
These days I live in beautiful Montana, the last best place. If I'm not reading or writing you'll find me just down the road in the park - Yellowstone. I have deer, eagles and the occasional bear for company, and I like it that way :0)
This was book 8 in the MacFarland Ranch series. Travis and Retta have been a slow burn through out some of the MacFarland series. Travis had wanted Retta from the very first moment they met but had to patiently wait until Retta was open to finding love again. Retta was a wonderful mum who didn't want to unsettled her daughter's life not realising Callie wanted her mum by her side all along. This was another fantastic book in the series. Two back to back MacFarland books has been great. Looking forward to more in the series.
This story on Retta and Travis' Love story keeps you hooked from page to page right too the end. The suspense had me eagerly ready to find out what happens next. All of this series is so good you'll want to start at the beginning and read them all .
All the Summer Lake series are well worth reading , one author you won't want to miss, Read one and you can't stop wanting to read them all!
I loved Travis! Retta came to Montana when her daughter brought her from LA after an accident. I felt so bad for Retta as she felt guilty how she wasn’t able to give Callie the life she wanted her to have when she was growing up. I loved that now that Callie was a popular singer, she wanted to help her mother and wanted her near. Travis had seen Retta one time when Callie was FaceTiming with Retta and had a crush on her. Retta hated being in a wheel chair and stuck not going anywhere. In came wonderful Travis, the handsome, gentle, giant that wanted to take her around where she wanted to go. I loved watching Travis show her how she didn’t need the walls she had built around her. If you have been reading this series, you will be happy to see all the wonderful characters in past books surrounding Retta with love and welcoming. There was a woman from Reta’s past who was out for Retta that became scary. I strongly encourage you to read this book.
I’m really enjoying this MacFarland Ranch series and I love that with each book that I get to read that we find out so much more about these characters and learn more of their back stories. I really liked getting to know more about Travis and Retta. I appreciated how real this author wrote the relationship between Retta and her daughter Callie. Neither of them are perfect but they are there for each other through the good and the bad. Right now Retta has cabin fever recovering from an accident and there is something brewing under the surface between Travis and Retta. I enjoyed when he came to take her out and they spent a lot of time together getting to know each other and taking steps to more in their relationship. It was also great how everyone was lobbying for her to stay in Montana and the valley and it was nice to see how everyone especially Travis was there for her. She’s had a hard life and deserves all the good things happening for her. I wasn’t thrilled when the school called with their demand especially when they didn’t reach out at all to make sure she’s ok and then we find out the rest of the story with what happened to her with Jamie from her school and cheer. Of course, you knew something was going to happen when she went back to Georgia and had a run in with her then the conversation with Marty wanting to see her in Montana should have been the red flag for everyone but who would have thought she was so unhinged. I’m upset that our Retta got hurt again but Jamie got what she finally deserved. I also liked that Travis was so excited that he chose to throw something out in the heat of the moment. I also enjoyed seeing everyone again and especially our little Maya and Mateo. I’m definitely looking forward to staying in Montana and the valley for our next book but the way this book ended and with the details mentioned about the next book with Tanner, Everly and Ashton, really wondering how Zeke is going to fit into this. Wonderful book!
I constantly have a book in my hands and I know when it's a SJ McCoy book, it will keep me engaged! It you like a great plausible storyline, with great characters that are like family with a little and sometimes a lot of steam... you know it's one of SJ McCoy's. Bring me another one please!
Whether we're in Montana at the ranch or at the lake in California; when you know, you know! Travis & Retta has been brewing for awhile. Some things you know are just meant to be... It's a nice refreshing story that will warm your heart. These stories are just what I need to settle into at the end of my day, knowing no matter what happens their friends and family will be beside them. As both series progress, I enjoy how they intermingle and bring everyone together across the country. Great developed characters and relationships you'll envy. Thank SJ for sharing the stories that unfold in your mind. I look forward to reading more.
This is the 8th book in this phenomenal series, and this is Travis and Retta’s story. Travis was attracted to Retta from the moment he met her, and she is living with regrets that she never gave her daughter Callie a better childhood, no matter how much her daughter disagrees. An accident has Retta staying with Callie to heal, and Travis is relentless in his pursuit, and is patiently waiting for her to open her heart up to love again. This is a beautifully written easy to read, slow burn, with family, friendships, emotions, action, humor, witty banter, undeniable chemistry, engaging and relatable characters, romance, and love, which leads to an entertaining and heartwarming addictive page turner. I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.
Ooof. This book had me feeling all the things. Retta's mom guilt was so real and honest and I love how Travis was there every step of the way helping her to realize that she did the absolute best she could with the crappy hand she was dealt. He is the most kind, supportive, loving, kind of man there is and I love how he isn't afraid to show it! This is another great addition to the series! As I always say, I absolutely love the brotherhood that the men have, and how open and accepting the ladies are to newcomers. This is such a wonderful group of fictional characters!
LOVED the cover...Image for Travis so sexy & handsome. Loved the read...Retta suffered at the hands of an irate, demented, jealous wife who was going through a seperat. Travis's admiration & love for Retta was so what most women only hope to have. I continue to follow this talented author & she never disappoints. I have a tendency hold off readinguntil she publishes a number of books in each of her series so I can read back to back. Now on to Tanner. Love them. (Reviewed by Lin)
I loved Travis and Retta's story. It is a definite read. Although it is a stand alone HEA, if you haven't read the earlier books in the series, you may want to start there.
McCoy gave us a foreshadowing about the couple in previous books but the added suspense of Jamie's jealously is a nice added surprise.
As always, it was nice to catch up with some of the characters from previous stories and I look forward to the new stories to come about the newly introduced characters in this book.
This was a great story. Travis was all in right from the beginning and Retta was a bit slower to come around, but come around she did! So many old friends and a few new ones, many of the other story lines progressed (can’t wait for Mav and Libby’s story!). This is book 8 in the series and to fully appreciate the series you need to read all of the books in order. Such a great series!
I have to say that I have truly enjoyed reading this story. Poor Retta has had a hard time ! But it will take more than a broken leg to stop her from falling for the man who wants her in his life! Thank you for writing another captivating story!
I absolutely loved Travis and Retta’s story. It was so good to watch her grow stronger and embrace her feelings and watch them fall so hard for each other. It was great to catch up with other characters from previous books. It's always great to visit the MacFarland's. A really great read.
Love They're and Travis' story. I love them together, I also love the fact . BB they took it slowly to be together and open up. I love that they did not push each other on certain things.⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
I absolutely loved The Cowboy's Unshakable Love and can't wait for all of the MacFarland crew's stories. As always SJ has written a story that I just couldn't put down. Thank you SJ.
Wow. This ebook had it all. The love he had for her. At first she didn't want a relationship. Until she got to know him. Then the mystery behind how she broke her leg. Love conquers all. Great series
Sj mccoy always writes uplifting storys. and I love how you really get to know the characters. Even when she writes another story there are little updates on the others.
