Born the oldest of three children, Patricia Haverton grew up believing that she'd follow in her father's footsteps and pursue a career in science. However, her worldview changed when she decided to explore her British mother's roots. The trip to her ancestral lands solidified her conviction that she had found her true calling in the romanticism of the Era of Kings and Queens.
A hopeless romantic and a firm believer in the idea of soulmates, Patricia changed the course of her life and decided to get her degree in Creative Writing and Psychology. As she jokingly says ever so often, "she lives in the past now, where love shows the way and Dukes save the day!"
When she's not weaving tales of love that prevails, Patricia enjoys spending time with her husband, roaming the British countryside, where they have been living in for the past decade.
Now would be the time to let yourself go and experience the true magic of the Regency Era! Let your imagination run wild, live amazing adventures through the eyes of brave heroes! Like the legendary wise wizard, Patricia will be your guide!
I loved reading this story! It was full of surprises and a love for sisters. It was not predictable for me. Diane has been a like mother for Samantha her sister because of father who neglected them. He is truly a piece of work. Enter the Duke who changes everything in the best way. I love Patricia's stories and this one is close to being my favorite. If you are looking for a sweet and clean romance this is the story for you.
Both main characters have had hard childhoods. The hero is a second son who gets the title when his brother dies. He also doesn’t have a great reputation. The heroine’s father has neglected his daughters and she has always protected her younger sister. When the father engages the younger daughter to the hero, the heroine steps forward to take her place. Then the rest of the story begins. The theme was similar to another book I read so that kept bothering me. Other than that I enjoyed it.
A sad story at times, we have two people who were never wanted by their parent! Both mothers have passed away, Colin was told he as the throw away son so he could go to war! And Diana’s mother died in a fire when. she was 6 and her sister was only 1 , so Diana raised her, because their father rejected them, they weren’t sons. So read to find out how these two souls find each other!
What a wonderful read about the heartache and hardships of two families that are destined to unite. Diana has raised her younger sister after the death of their mother and Colon has become the Duke after the tragic death of his elder brother. The ton torments them both concerning their life tragedies. I definitely recommend this book it has a little bit of everything in it, mystery love and unexpected kidnappings.
Diana is the eldest and Stephanie the youngest and they have been neglected by their father who wants to marry them off Colin is a duke and met Diana at a ball and kissed her but Stephanie did not want to marry so he married Diana and with twists and turns they fell in love and became a family A good story
This is the story of two young ladies that were raised on their own with the help of their Aunt when they were small. Their father caused the death of their mother when one was very young and the other only six. Their father abandoned them for quite a while then became a drunk. Read as their lives take a change slowly for the better.
I'm glad for the prequel that shed a lot of light on the beginning of the story. I was a bit confused when the Duke (Colin) came to propose to Diana's sister Samantha instead of Diana after they had kissed the night before. My biggest complaint with the whole book is too much focus on Samantha and the "no show heir" of their father's. The extended epilogue was even more about Samantha.
This is another story of where the elder sister steps in when their uncaring father wants to marry off the younger sister to an unknown man who happens to be a duke. Nothing basically different from all the other stories with this basic storyline. Very unlike other Patricia Haverton books I have read and really enjoyed.
Diana married Colin in the place of her sister who didn't wish to marry at all. Both had unkind and demanding fathers who left them distrustful of the concept of love. Together they met and overcame many challenges because they were strong and resourceful characters.
I loved this gentle love story. It was sweet, and gentle. With the idea that women needed a husband to be able to conform to society's idea of a woman's life. Two sisters each different but with a love for each other against a father who saw them as a means to ridding himself of them by getting them married.
DNF at 28%. The characters are absolutely emotionless and the NPC's have more depth to them than the PC's do. The plot is unrealistic. First up, a meet-cute is supposed to be actually cute... all they did was be assholes to each other from right or of the gate. Then when the author got to the point where some rando just strolls up and insults the two of them openly, I quit.
The strong female characters in this early English historical story are very different than the usual stories. The no show drunkard father has left me speechless and disappointed. The rumored murderous Duke that is full of kindness and love is a quirky character. Fast easy reading.
Great interpretation and misinformation of communication examples. Shows the human spirit and how it can be damaged and healed. Shows the damage of gossip and how to overcome it. Highly recommended for all readers. Very deep, I had to re-read many parts, but I loved the story and characters.
This is the story of actually two sisters and a Duke. One sister kissed him in a darkened garden, and their father betrothed the other sister to the Duke. The sister that was to marry him didn't want to marry anyone, so the other sister took her place, the groom was happy because he knew the sister from the garden was her. . thank you ❤️
Diana and her sister, Samantha had had a difficult childhood with an uncaring father. When he decided that Samantha was to marry she was not pleased at all. So when Diana offered to take her place little did she realise that Colin was her happily ever after.
The two sisters, raised by a drunkard, found their salvation and I misunderstood. Duke. I enjoyed the story and how honest he was the best policy for fighting each other. My only regret is not hearing what happened with the long lost half brother
I really liked this book. The characters were great and the plot better. The villain was definitely vile and the footmen were horrid. I liked it was a clean novel, no graphic text involved.
A ball opens doors for the good & the bad.. and then a chance meeting makes all the difference in the world. A change of heart for perhaps a marriage. A secret life & then all the expectations with it. Even perhaps love!!
Really enjoyed this book. Laughed several times. The sisters are determined to be in charge. Chapter 18. " It is not what they want, but how they feel about it. ...they will find what they are looking for and get it. Chapter 20. Advise from housekeeper: There is so much more out therr so you must think of the experience of others before you spek. If you do that, then the rest will become quite easy. You shall see.
So moving with these characters who had such a lousy childhood. Narcissistic fathers. No mothers. Broke my heart at times. Love a happy ending, though!
