Resurrecting My Magic

Rate this book
In the thrilling sequel to Magic, Monsters and Me, Elijah Delomary steps into a whirlwind of challenges that test his strength, his identity, and the depth of his relationships. Confronting Zid’dra, the diabolical king of the menacing Gloom, Elijah faces a web of deceit spun by the sinister force, luring him toward his demise. However, his escape is orchestrated by the intervention of the Áuqala, who guides him back to Earth with a crucial message—to believe in his innate magic. Meanwhile, Elijah's mother undergoes a profound transformation, shifting her focus to support her son, amend past mistakes, and discover a newfound love for herself along the way.

Elijah’s journey isn't just about reclaiming his powers and rekindling his relationship with Austin, his boyfriend; it's a battle against Zid’dra's relentless pursuit. As he struggles with his identity and seeks reconciliation, he becomes entangled in a dangerous game with Zid’dra, all while being shadowed by Devlina, his nemesis. An unfortunate accident sidelines Elijah, forcing him into a period of introspection and healing, where he grapples with self-acceptance and finds his true essence.

Amidst a summer blooming with rekindled love, Elijah is drawn into a chaotic conflict as the battle between Zid’dra and Devlina escalates into a full-blown war, pitting the coven against Devlina. Faced with a terrifying revelation, Elijah is pushed to protect his family, Austin, and the very fabric of existence. The weight of these challenges tests Elijah's strength, forcing him to confront the darkest forces while proving the unwavering strength of his love to Austin.

Welcome back Elijah! You’ve been through so much!
This is the sequel to Magic, Monsters and Me, with a whole new set of struggles for sweet Elijah. While he’s still stuck in the magical battle of Zid’dra and Devlina, he’s also dealing with battles within himself. Eli is trying to be the best he can be: gain back his magic, make his mother proud, prove to his father that he’s strong, and be the best boyfriend to Austin (Austin you sweet baby!). The pressure Elijah is putting on himself is massive, and he’s starting to crack. He knows there’s darkness in him, and he doesn’t know how to beat it and stop the war between Zid’dra and Devlina.
Elijah not only finds his own strength in this book, but he also learns how to find strength in those around him. His mother has realized how much her expectations have bogged down Elijah, and she’s willing to do the work to be a better and more supportive mom. He’s got some new and old friends rallying around him, and of course the best boyfriend ever, Austin Kang Jr!
This is a look at how much of a struggle it is to move from being a kid to an adult, and how much you need to lean on others. Elijah finds his way, and it takes a lot of work to get there, but he’s truly a hero!

He has escaped his demise and things may just get stranger as his mother seems to be changed overnight. She has found new love and now wants to make amends for all the things she did in the past. His journey will not be so easy as he deals with all the other things in his life. How will he get on? Will it all go well? See how it will all go

I requested to review Resurrecting My Magic by Timoteo Tong not realizing it was a sequel in The Magical Alliance series. While reading the first book would help with understanding the intricate world and cosmology the author has created, I enjoyed it anyway. It was fun watching the hero. Elijah, trying to overcome monsters, both real and in his head. In both cases, the results if he fails are dire. There are plenty of fights between good and evil with some characters changing sides. Several characters grew or changed over the course of the story. Elijah and Austin are in high school with some of the secondary characters, so much of the personal development was appropriate for that age. The one who changed the least, because he did not need much personal growth, was Austin, Elijah’s boyfriend. Since the book was not advertised as a post apocalyptic tale, it was likely Elijah would triumph in the end. There were a couple of twists that I enjoyed a lot. It will be interesting to see what the author writes next. I received a free copy of the book and I am writing this review voluntarily.

I’m biased because I wrote this book! I originally created the Delomary family when I was around twelve years old and through many half finished manuscripts over the years, during the pandemic I finally sat down and finished Elijah’s story. I hope readers enjoy the story.

Years ago Belinda Delomary made some big mistakes. One of those mistakes effected her sons life. Now Elijah seeks the truth from his mother as he now has to help Devlina take over the world.

As he blieves he no longer has magic, he is caught in a battle between Zid’dra and Devlina, He continues his struggle of finding his true self. There’s a darkness within him and he doesn’t know how to end it and stop the battle with Zid’dra and Devlina.

He also has those that are close to his heart: his mother and he strives to make her proud. His father that he needs to prove his strength too. His very special boyfriend, who he want’s to be the best for . But all of these heavy responsibilities aren’t making it easy and Elijah is close to loosing himself forever.

The battle of Zid’dra and Devlina has Elijah using what little power he has. He has the need to call on others and to take on all the dark forces and keep his love for Austin strong.

Elijah also has to face the fact that his mother hasn’t really told him the truth, no matter how many times he asks. With a surprise trip to Hong Kong for Austin’s birthday, he will meet Austin’s Grandmother, Au Yeung “Victoria” Kang. Victoria explains she is part of the “Congrehassa Sie Estantus” and voted against him loosing his powers. It was wrong to have a young person put through that situation. She teaches him the history of Hong Kong and how the Yellow Emperor escaped and ended on Old Earth. There were monsters who didn’t want the Magicals uniting with other groups and the Anti-coven League was founded. The burden of the Delomary Family was never his to carry. At some point Elijah would have to trust his family, friends and Austin for support. There are so many forces for Elijah to face where will it take him and when will it end?

Timoteo Tong continues the unique story of Elijah Delomary and Austin Kang Jr., with “Resurrecting My Magic” book two in “The Magical Alliance”. Once again, it’s filled with magic, different realms, many evil monsters and demons, and descriptive world building in this fantasy world. It’s especially a story about the journey young people have to face while growing up. How difficult it is to build friendships, learning how to trust and the emotions of a very first relationship. How much of a struggle it is to just be yourself and not hurt the person you really care about. It’s a look at adults too, as they make mistakes and don’t realize how it effects the children in the family. Sometimes adults need to tell their children the truth, regardless of their age and always keep an open mind.

Many of the Elijah and Austin’s friends have returned to the tale: Barn, Katie, Tyrone, Tyrell, Kevin, Tina, Gina, Letitia and Stylo. The Kang parents and the Delomary family. Of course there’s the evil characters of Devlina and Zid’dra.

I highly recommend “Resurrecting My Magic” there’s a little bit of art work along with the characters portraits at the start. I think, Timoteo Tong really made this an easy read and provided a Glossary at the back along with the Hierarchy of Magicals, which are very helpful. I highly suggest reading the first book, “Magic, Monster and Me”, that introduces Elijah Delomary and Austin Kang, Jr. It’s more of a coming of age tale and will help familiarize those with “Resurrecting My Magic”.

After the events in the first book, Elijah Delomary returns to a life where he must face new challenges. Zid’dra is doing everything possible to ensure his demise. Fortunately, he has help from many to ensure his survival. He wants Austin back in his life and he wants to prove to Austin that he is worthy. He pushes himself and takes on too much. The battle between Zid’dra and Devlina heats up forcing Elijah to call on every strength he has (as well as some from others) to confront all the dark forces involved while at the same time keeping his love for Austin strong.

Eli really struggles trying to balance everything. His mother finally realizes she is putting too much pressure on him. Eli is to be commended as he rises to the challenge with the help of family, friends and his boyfriend, Austin, who is a hoot. The plot was intriguing and kept your interest but I was confused with some of the switches in thoughts and conversations. This series is unique and compelling but to appreciate it, you need to start with book one. Looking for something different? Try this series.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and this is my very own opinion.

I was so excited to dive back into Elijah’s world, and the story didn’t disappoint. While I enjoyed the first book, you can tell the author’s writing has evolved a bit for this second installment. If anything, some of the most heart-warming things are some of the most alien to me - like parents realizing the effect their expectations have had on their kids and adjusting them. (But I absolutely love that it happens!) We get to know all the characters a little better, and watching them grow and evolve and learn more about themselves made for a captivating story. Everything moves along at a good pace, and there are a few twists to keep you guessing. I absolutely recommend reading book one, as a lot of the world building happens along with the characters getting established, but you might be able to read this as a stand alone. Either way, this isn’t a book you want to miss!

I really enjoyed this book. The characters were all well written and well developed and we get more details about the world established in the first book. What I most enjoyed about this one was seeing that the characters like Elijah and his mother gain the strength to love and defeat the darkness when they learn to see themselves honestly, change things that need to be changed and then trust themselves and the relationships they are now able to build and strengthen.

I continue to struggle with the writing style from the first book, and now this one, as it seems juvenile and is hard for me to get into. However, I have to give credit for the plot and characters, which were enjoyable.
