i’m sorry but this was fucking garbage. couldn’t finish a 200 pg book, i only got to 54%
both the mcs are LOSERS.
- there’s nothing attractive ab a man referring/calling women “bitches” or thinking he’d rape his friends gf to show him “how insane he actually is and teach him a lesson” or threatening to kill and actually planned on murdering a teenage girl.
- there’s nothing attractive ab a man putting hands on a woman and body slamming her to a wall to send the women he’s stalking a message, even if tossing her too hard was an “accident”
- there’s nothing attractive ab feeling aroused for a man who put hands on said woman, your BESTFRIEND btw, while visiting her in the hospital just bc he’s “coming for you” and is the man from the carnival you have feelings for after hugging one time and “coincidentally” the same person stalking you.
- there’s nothing attractive ab a man who is obsessed w ur virginity/needing you to be “pure/tight.” (the way virginity was brought up was uncomfortable and to serve the man.)
- there’s nothing attractive ab a man saying he’d actually kill you so you’d stop crying bc he doesn’t like it.
yet, what does the fmc do when he tells her AFTER fucking her that she should stay away from him bc he was going to murder a teenager girl just to take her away from her bf if she hadn’t stopped him ?
that he’s dangerous and might possibly kill her even tho “ugh there’s something ab her that’s so different from the rest. she gets me. she’s dark, i can feel it. 😼” which is the only reason he hasn’t killed her.
who cares ? the fmc has NEVER been able to fulfill her sexual fantasies w someone before. she’s never felt this way ab someone, this is new excitement! and he’s soooo dark and “hot.” there’s just something ab him ! ♥️
instead she shows him she’s not afraid then gives him her number and basically says “he can trust her, to let her in, she’ll get it!” so what if he was going to murder an innocent girl, she knows there’s more to him and they can connect on that ! 🥺🥺

I wanted to love this - the premise is so cool! A masked carnival worker with dark side and a troubled female lead? What's not to love?
A lot apparently.
Aurora is supposedly some wild child who's "all f'd up" and been through a lot, but I don't see that at all. She comes across as a little insecure, TSTL and basic (like ok she's got dark fantasies about the guy stalking her but that's it) and Gage... Oh boy.
CRINGE. CRINGE. CRINGEEEEE
He's like if you asked a teenager to write fanfiction of an edgy "bad boy" murderer lead. He's sadistic, kills without remorse, cares for no one and is totally obsessed with and is stalking Aurora after running into her one time. He talks in the worst cringe-inducing way, often referencing the "voices" or "the darkness within him" and "the monster within" for why he does what he does. There's a lot of "howling darkness", growling, "dark sides" and inner monologues and course he's stunningly handsome, tall and has blue eyes. *Of course*.
The only reason I'm not giving this one star is that some of the spicy bits are ok but that's all I can say.
SOME HIGHLIGHTS / THOUGHTS FROM MY READING EXPERIENCE:
- Dan and Charlotte are basically stereotype cardboard cutouts of friends with like no personality
- Gage being misogynistic is low key gross
- Why is everyone scared of Gage, bro just wears a mask and has intense blue eyes. My guy, stop telling me how scared ppl are of you, I get it
- Aurora is supposed to be some super messed up troubled girl but so far she's worn ripped jeans like one time bc Charlotte told her so and she's a virgin? How exactly is she a wild child? She self harmed a few times? That's it?
- Aurora creeping on a guy she just met who copped a feel because ~he's hot~ is *sigh* basic? IDK
- Gauge killing a homeless person because he's"so bad and tortured and the voices told him too" is soooo standard "dark romance" cringe
- Gage stalking her and doing his annoying monologue thing constantly gets old SO FAST.
- I GET IT. You have an inner monster, you're so messed up, you hear voices!? How many times am I going to hear about it? like 5 times a chapter?!
- Aurora is TSTL. Girlie! This man wired cameras all over your apartment, stalked you and beat your friend almost to death and you come right home and give him a show / get yourself off while he watches? Wtf? Friend of the year over here.
- Aurora goes to the carnival after all that? And dresses up to proposition him? Does she have NO self preservation?
- “You’re telling the truth,” I murmur, my voice rough. “A virgin, untouched by any man.” - barf!
- Aurora begging him to fuck her in the dirt for her first time? Girl are u ok?
- Gage calling her "little one" constantly gives me the ick
- gun sex.... Ok? We've seen this before in the genre but it's so eh? Who is that for?
- Why is this SO boring? Aurora has zero personality. I get it, you want to be roughed up in a shed by a murderer, but can I get a crumb of character development? Some sense of connection? Like aside from the fact she's not afraid of him and likes what he does it's not much of a romance, definitely some lust but other than that they barely know each other.
FINAL VERDICT: DNF @ 90% This is not my thing and I got tired of cringing and rolling my eyes.

Я може поставила 4 бали, якби не одне але, а саме вбивство інших людей, і окей закрити очі на вбивства якихось винних в чомусь можливо, але тут не така ситуація.
Гейдж та Аврора обидва мають нещасливе та травмуюче дитинство, яке їх привело до такої поведінки, а саме – вони обоє жертви сексуального домашнього насильства. Коли розповіли про те, що було у Аврори і згадку про те, що її батько/кривдник живий, то я очікувала на момент коли Гейдж до нього навідається, а тут навіть вони вдвох були.
Якщо я очікувала на якесь збочення в сексі від Гейджа, то я його отримала у вигляді пістолета(привіт Аделіна та Зейд), коли я читаю про якісь речі, які пхають у піхву, то очікую на якусь дезінфекцію цих предметів, здається жоден книжковий персонаж про це не знає, а ще про засоби контрацепції 😀 ні, може комусь на це начхати і йому не подобається про це читати, але мені якось дивно, відчуття що в більшості всесвітах не вагітніють або немає ніякої згадки про ІПСШ.
А ще був дуже стрьомний момент, коли Гейдж її майже задушив під час сексу, вона навіть не дихала, чому не навчиться якось контролювати це? Я розумію, що він вбиває інших людей і все таке, але ж тут він і не хотів її вбивати, чому не контролювати свою силу😩

After reading numerous fairytale retellings, I craved something darker, and
Carnival Monster by Selena Winters
certainly delivered!
Here is what you can expect from this erotic horror story:
- a mysterious masked hero looking for his next victim
- a tempting and fearless heroine
- an instant attraction with intoxicating kink
- gut punching triggers
- a sweet HEA
I appreciated the depth of the characters and the fleshed-out storyline. If you're in the mood for a wild and thrilling escape into the darker side of romance, I recommend reading this story!

Of course I had to read Gages’ story after reading Carnival Nightmare ☺️ Damn those masks that show the colour of their eyes are brilliant 👀
The MCs have a connection that means they are attracted to each other like magnets, their past plays a big part in their future, meaning their darkness pulls them towards one another. Naturally, all that darkness needs an outlet and both have their own way of seeking it 🖤🔪🩸
I liked this one because though it could be read as a standalone, it was nice I knew the feel of the circus 🎪

It’s a dark romance alright but it’s not a book. This is another wet dream some amateur writer had and thought would be a good idea to make a book out of to jump on the dark romance hype and make some money.

3.5 ⭐️ rounded up. I finally talked myself into getting one of the books from this series. I always enjoy reading Selena’s books as they never let you down in the darkness. I’ll for sure be getting the rest of their series!

That’s was a fun way to officially kick off spooky season!
He’s a serial killer who works for a traveling carnival (great cover honestly), and is instantly drawn to one of the patrons he scared in the haunted house… their darkness calls to eachother!
And the vengeance they get together made me very happy!
Thought this was gonna be just like no place to hide, but there was sooo much more to this story! Thoroughly enjoyed this adventure! And now I need to read Cade & Lilly’s book!

Shorter book, but had a good plot line and spice. Had some mystery/stalker trope. Halloween themed book as a lot of the book is based inside the carnival. Both main characters were fun to read about. It is on the fast paced side due to the length but I think the characters past issues were brought up just enough to give the readers information as to why the main characters are the way they are.

The words hit me like a punch to the gut. Dan’s grip on my shoulder tightens.
I stare at Charlotte, my heart pounding as her words sink in. The man who attacked her, the one who’s been stalking me, is coming for me. He knows where I am and won’t stop until he has me. In what capacity, I don’t know.
All I should feel is terror. I should shake with fear, beg for police protection, and run as far away from this town as possible. But a part of me feels a thrill at his words, a dark excitement that I can’t quite explain.
“He’s coming for me,” I whisper to myself.
Dan’s eyes widen. “Aurora, this isn’t a game. You need to take this seriously. We need to call Officer Isley and tell him what the guy said. They can get you somewhere safe.”
But even as he speaks, I can feel a heat building inside me, a perverse desire I know I shouldn’t feel. The thought of this man, this dark and dangerous stranger, pursuing me with such single-minded focus excites me.

Charlotte watches me, her expression a mix of concern and confusion. “Aurora, what’s going on in that head of yours? You look like you’re a million miles away.”
“I’m sorry, I just... I don’t know what’s wrong with me.”
Dan takes my hand, his touch grounding me in reality. “There’s nothing wrong with you. You’re just scared and confused.
Anyone would be in your situation.”
But he’s wrong. There is something wrong with me. Normal people don’t get turned on by the idea of being stalked by a violent criminal who just assaulted her best friend. Normal people don’t feel a dark thrill at the thought of being at the mercy of a dangerous man. But then, I’ve not been normal for a very long time.
I close my eyes, pushing away the wicked thoughts. I need to focus on keeping myself safe and finding a way out of this nightmare. But even as I try to be rational, I can’t shake the feeling that a part of me craves this with a desperate hunger I’ve never known.
What kind of monster am I turning into? And how far will I let this depraved game go before it consumes me entirely?

As I stand there, surrounded by the evidence of my stalker’s invasion, a sickening realization dawns on me. Beneath the fear, beneath the violation, arousal stirs. The thought of unknown eyes on my body causes a tingling down my back that isn’t entirely unpleasant. In fact, this feels like the thrill I’ve been searching for.
I try to shake the feeling, disgusted with myself, but it persists. My skin flushes hot, my pulse quickens, and an ache blooms between my thighs.
Moving back to my bedroom, my heart is racing as I toss the cameras I’ve found hidden throughout my apartment onto the bed. The rational part of my mind screams that this is insane, that I should call the police and tell them what I’ve found, but this is exactly what I’ve been longing for My thoughts drift to the masked man from the carnival, who pinned me against him in the haunted house. The memory of his powerful hands and intimidating presence gives me goosebumps. Could it be him? The idea excites me.
Before I can second-guess myself, I line the cameras up on my bed and climb on to it, their lenses staring back at me like eager voyeurs. My hands tremble as I undress, peeling off my polo, pants, bra, and panties. I lie there, naked and vulnerable, my skin prickling with a mixture of fear and anticipation.

Um, no. If you read Butcher and Blackbird and Lights Out, and thought those were too tame, this book might be for you. If you watched House of Hammer and thought, I don't get what all the fuss is about; this book might be for you. If you watched Dexter and thought, I'd like this more if he wasn't so into vigilantism; this book might be for you. If you ever thought, I wish Charles Manson was still alive so I could mail him my panties; this book might be for you. This book is wrong on ALL the levels. I read the trigger warnings first, but it was too dark for me. This kind of glorification is not ok with me. Please, call the police if any guy ever does to you what the MMC did to the MFC and her friend!

Dark yet beautiful
I really enjoyed this book. Definitely a good book to end the spooky Halloween season on. This book was definitely not as dark as some other books I’ve read before but it was a good read nonetheless. Brought up some interesting things about myself that I didn’t realize even existed but definitely recommend reading this book if you are into masked men, Halloween carnivals, and knife play. 4 star reviews from me.

OMG this was spicy and fun to read! I devoured this book in about 3 hours. It captured my attention, I loved the characters and their darkness and attraction to each other. It was just an over all good, fast paced, easy read! 4⭐

A slow build-up (a few chapters), prey vs. predator, SPICYY! Psycho & psycho and a strong FMC! loved this book! I wanted more in the end but by far one of my favorite reads this year.

These books all have the same plot, or lack of plot. The same unbearably stupid characters and horrible writing. But it’s like a train wreck, I can’t stop reading for some reason.
