Thane is most famous for her "Williamsburg" series of historical fiction. The books cover several generations of a single family from the American Revolutionary War up to World War II. The action moves from Williamsburg in later books to England, New York City and Richmond, Virginia.
One of the very few books I have ever sold. and I sold it immediately upon completion of same.
I asked for it for Christmas one year, as I already owned most of the rest of her books. I don't know if this one came at the beginning of her career or the end of it, but either way it's terrible.
Okay, just checked Wikipedia. It came at the beginning of her career. Frankly, it sounds like a first effort. And now that I think about it, this must be a story about her and her husband, in which case even the proofreader should have been able to tell her she was making the mistake of her life marrying this guy. There's almost no story there at all, and it ties up far too quickly and neatly. In other words, a complete book of schoolgirl fiction. She's lucky someone picked up the rest of her books for publication following a bomb like this one.
Anyway, I can't remember the whole story thanks to years of therapy. Don't waste the effort. Read Tryst instead. Tryst: now that's a love story.
