Every five years during the summer months, people disappear without a trace. They’re always the same age group.
No one is safe.
And this year’s reaping… I’m one of them.
Disappearing to Nowhere is a dark, high romantasy inspired by Norwegian folklore. Delve into a world of magical creatures, where chaos reigns and luck determines survival.
Dark High Romantasy author from Norway that draws inspiration from old folklore of her culture. You will find a multitude of magical creatures and strange magic within the pages.
I love this book! It’s entertaining and the story grips you from the start! The FMC has great wit and lots of fun and quick remarks! The character development is really interesting too. The world building is easy to learn and understand, since you as a reader are learning it at the same time as the FMC - so no info-dumping! The dragons and all the other magical creatures are described in such a way that it’s easy to imagine how they all look! I could vividly picture them in my mind. It’s so cool that the author chose to include creatures from Norwegian / Scandinavian folklore, which isn’t something that you see very often - love it! The authors way with words, creates lots of tension between the characters, and as a reader you can feel it. So I am desperately waiting for book 2!
Linnsy B. North's writing for this story is gruff and reflects the dark tones and interesting folklore inspiration to be found within.
The most interesting take I have ever read on a person, or many people being taken to a different land. This one is steeped in magic and a curse that prevents anyone spilling any beans! Which is frustrating for both the fmc, but the reader who wants all the information!
It was fantastic! The character relationships, the fantastical lands, the mythical creatures, and the tensions on all sides. Salem is strong and stubborn in her independence, which I'm sure many women can relate to.
This book contains mature content from relationships to internal thoughts, meant for readers 18+.
2.5 ⭐ For a debut novel this is mostly enjoyable and the premise alone is super intriguing. Personally though I found some parts didn't feel as fleshed out as they could've been and it all felt a bit rushed at times and lacking some more descriptive scenes that could've had me really immersed within this world. Also I found that the conversations and thoughts didn't quite flow as naturally as I would've liked them to which made it difficult for me to properly connect with characters along the way. I wish I enjoyed this as much as I wanted to at the beginning but I am still interested in where this story will go.
Wow wow wow! What an INCREDIBLE debut! This story is an incredible romantasy with a plot that is both intense but incredibly easy to understand. I fell in love with Salem instantly. The first line of the book had me cackling. I devoured this book in four hours, forgetting all household chores because I had to know what happened next. Dante is EVERYTHING. I need more of him desperately. If you are a fan of Fourth Wing and Throne of Glass, this book is for you. Take me back to Nowhere 😍
This year I have been unfortunate with the books I’ve read and it has been a slow year for books and reading in general. I’ve been in a slump, and Linnsy North took me right out of it.
I loved getting to know Salem, and reading a fantasy book based on my heritage and my culture, Norway’s culture and folklores. It is hard to come across books inspired by our culture that simply catches me and holds me in a tight grip.
I will say however, if you are deathly afraid of beetles - be wary. There’s lots of them. I’m overall happy it was beetles, and not spiders.
I kept picking up several hints along the book. Even though it was a very short mention, the Cobalt Priests. As I’ve said in a comment I wrote during my reading progress, Norway is well known for it’s cobalt mines. And, right where the largest cobalt mines are we have a museum dedicated to the artworks of T. Kittelsen, a Norwegian artist and painter that had lots of artwork inspired by our folklores.
A high fantasy book is oftentimes a struggle to get into because of lots of world building and plot all jammed into one. North has in this case made a starting world, Terrby, that is easy to understand and easy to follow. As we learn more about Nowhere - it is lots of information, yes, but still easy to learn about as she has spread the information throughout the book to let us get to know the world better, and we weren’t introduced to the entire world of Nowhere in the first book, which also makes us wonder how this will proceed.
Salem is an FMC that you can relate to on several levels, some more than others. She has quick comebacks and is not overall shy. She isn’t the FMC that needs saving, nor the FMC that runs around trying to save everyone. All which is very refreshing to see, and gives us a break from most fantasy books that are just that. Her wit, responsible nature and caring for those close to her makes her a very interesting FMC. And like everyone; she has her struggles as well as things that scare her. She’s human.
We see a lot of different friendship dynamics in the group, how they develop, we can see how the characters develop and I like that the friends aren’t just extra characters, but they have a role and a genuine friendship with one another.
There were many, many places in which this book had me at the edge of my seat. Places where my heart raced, places where I wished I could transport into the book and do some minor changes to someone’s face amongst other things, places where I almost cried and through it all, all the words I read played like a movie in my head. That only happens with me when I have a read I am thoroughly enjoying.
Are you after a read that will spike emotions, that brings you to a world inspired by lots of interesting folklore with beautiful creatures, friendships - and dare I say - a shadow daddy; then yes. This is the one.
And to think that this is North’s debut novel! She certainly has great things coming her way.
Hadn't heard about it until I received a signed copy 🥰 And wow! I was eager to start reading it, and I was not disappointed at all!
I got a little Fourth Wing vibe with some, but it's not a bad thing. It wasn't all like it at all. It was really thrilling, and I quickly got hooked. Just wanna keep reading.
I can't wait for the next book in this series comes! 🤩 I truly can't wait. Want to read it now!
It has dragons and hulder, troll, etc. Love it. I absolutely recommend it
I'm new to this author and can without a doubt say I'm glad to have found them. I was drawn in straight away. The depth of character development and world build is enough to keep you wanting to know more. Each chapter has you wondering where the story will lead next, what is in store for our MCs and will we see it coming?. Highly recommend this to my fellow fantasty readers.
Wow, what can I say. It's not often I'm lost for words, but this author has done just that. Her words float off the page and settle in your heart and mind. The banter between the fmc and mmc is palpable. Her writing style flows effortlessly and paints a vivid picture of the events that unfold within. If you love dragons, magic, feisty fmc and plenty of twists then this is the book for you.
I dived head first into this book! I loved the world the author created, although a world that is dark and twisted, it's a world I wanted to be in. The characters you hate and fall in love with and the twists. Also....dragons!! Cannot wait for book two! What a fantastic debut novel for this indie Author.
I absolutely LOVED this book! Such an amazing read, very different to anything I’ve read before. The banter, the steam between the FMC & MMC. It has everything! Dragons, trolls, gnomes.. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and I am impatiently awaiting book 2 to see what happens next! Linnsy, thank you for writing this incredible story ❤️
Absolutely stunning. I was completely immersed in this world, gave fourth wing vibes which is why I started but yet it spins out and really holds its own in such a saturated market. I've read so many over hyped books by best sellers and yet a small indie authors debut (not even written in her first language!) really out performed them in every way.
Immediately I was gripped by the markings on them, the beetles, trying to work out everything until to be completely wrong when it was slowly revealed. The world building, the side characters all felt purposeful and not just added filler. I cannot recommend this enough and I will be anxiously awaiting the follow up.
I did not wanna put this magical masterpiece down, and when I had to I thought about the characters and imagining where there individual journeys would end up.the character development was well written and easily to follow. I usually often struggle with fantasy but this book was mischief on every page keeping.me turning them. I got ever so slight confused around the 250 because of a ltransition but this was quickly ironed out through the new few pages and I was back on track understanding the twists and turns the author linnsey was taking me on....I really look forward to picking up her next release.
I love it , 😻 this book is like fresh air . It’s a new level of experience ! I hotly recommended this book for everyone who love fantasy and is in reading slump , this book gets me out of the slump 🫶🏻 , and for everyone who love to hide in fantasy worlds , get your blanked , snacks and your favourite drink it’s dynamics wild ride and suck you up getting you out of reality !
So I saw this book when I came across the author on here @Linnsy B. North 📚🇳🇴 Author on my for you page. I would like to make clear, this is not paid, it is an honest review. I will also say that romantasy is not really my genre either - I read a lot of dark romance, mafia and normal romance that are based within the real world. However, it seemed intriguing, we’d been to Norway before and it is based on a bit of folklore. And by god, did I fall down the rabbit hole. I inhaled this book in 3 hours.
The FMC is a strong fighter who doesn’t take crap from others and is able to hold her own. Which gripped me instantly. She lives with her sister as her mum is useless and her dad was “taken”. We quickly find out that people get “taken” often and they just disappear and we don’t know where.
We join our character as she is quickly figuring out that she is about to be taken also and tries to sort out her sister first. When taken, she lands in a magical land where the kraken roams the seas, dragons fly in the skies and theres an evil that they are all fighting.
There is a male best friend who’s jealous of the new crush and a relationship which is building in the first book with some sexual tension but we’re not into any spicy scenes yet, quite a bit of near misses though.
The book itsslf was really enjoyable, like I truely enjoyed this read. I have read a lot of books in the past two years (almost at 800) and it is one of the better books I have read over these past two years. I don’t know if its because the genre is different but the story just gripped me and I am eagerly anticipating the next one.
I came across this on booktok and had to buy it as I loved the blurb.
It was a really enjoyable read, it has a teeny tiny fourth wing vibe at one point but the rest is all so different to other books out there.
Every five years there is a reaping where people of a certain age disappear over the summer months never to be seen or heard from again. This year Salem realises she's going to be taken and there is nothing she can do about it...
Salem is a feisty scrappy FMC who's had to step up to ensure her and her sister survived. Training in the fighting pits stands her in good stead when she disappears. She ends up in Nowhere.
Fighting for survival, she is thrown into a war she never even knew existed in a world full of creatures that she's only heard of in legends and surrounded by those who are bound by a curse unable to explain what is going on. It's a race against time and magic threads are pulling her but to what end...

4.5⭐️ The FMC (Salem) is strong but also somewhat insecure, funny but also a bit rude. And I definitely enjoyed that! I feel the characters are well written, so is the world building.
The reaping, very interesting... not sure how all the magic works, but I believe we're not supposed to (yet).
Also enjoyed the tiny bit of romance in it and absolutely love the Norwegian Folklore! And let's not forget the dragons ofc!
Can't wait to read what happens next! Will definitely be getting the next book, when it comes out.
3,5 - This was an enjoyable read. The book has some truly great elements and a compelling story that keeps you engaged. The characters are interesting, though I would have liked to see a bit more depth and a slower development to really bring them to life. The world-building, rooted in Nordic folklore, is rich with good potential and adds atmosphere to the story. I'm looking forward to seeing where the journey goes next.
I don't write reviews very often but I love, love, loved this book. I read it straight after Onyx Storm and Disappearing to Nowhere was soooo much better. I was hooked from page 1. I really like Linnsy's writing style, the pace of the story and the sassy main character. I hope book 2 will follow soon!
This was such an enjoyable read. Our FMC is a headstrong arse, but she has heart, and I love her so much. Join her as she discovers Nowhere. You won't regret it. I'll be waiting for book 2 with anticipation and eagerness. I really want to know what happens next for these characters.
I really liked the plot, but thought that the characters and their relationships lacked depth a bit. The world seemed interesting and I would really like to know more about it. The Northern mythology was refreshing among all the other books that I’ve read lately. The book was pretty fast paced, some parts felt a little rushed. Overall a good book with great potential for a series!
I saw this book on TikTok and was checking out some reviews. They were all quite good, so I decided to give it a go. Best thing I have done! You get everything you want from a fantasy, plus a bit of romance, not that much to slow down the story line. The characters are pretty realistic, the situations are credible, the magic system well built. Best thing of all? The creatures are captivating and every character has a reason to exist! You need to meet Riften and Dante... 😎 I am sorry I can't give more than 5 stars.
Absolutely loved this book.. fantastically written. Once i started i literally could not put this book down.. I can't wait for book 2 to be released.. If you like fantasy then you should definitely read this.. Highly recommend..
This divergent meets fourth wing. I enjoyed the read but didn't really get drawn into the world due to so much similarity to FW. I also didnt really connect with the characters either. but still an instering read.
“Time is a fickle thing,” and it perfectly summed up my reading of this. I picked it up “just for a bit,” then suddenly I was at the end, wondering where the hours went. Sharp writing, great pacing, and characters that quietly hook you in. I really enjoyed this and would happily recommend it.
