There are times when escaping reality is needed…which for means for me—reading. Jumping into another ‘world’—whether it is a totally ‘fictional’ planet…or a ‘different’ side of this world.
Yesterday afternoon I decided I wanted to escape reality for awhile—so I jumped back into the Tales of the Were world & finished up the latest two books in the Kinkaid shifters series: Conqueror & Peacemaker.
At the end of Lionheart—Rich’s brothers were given ‘jobs’…there were others that needed help/protection for the rising evil forces. Rich was going to hold down the ‘fort’ & do the computer work…& such—but Billy & Colt were going to be the ones out in the field.
Conqueror is Billy & Amalie’s story…and basically picks up shortly after the end of Lionheart. It seems that some relatives of the Marsh Witches of Sagaponack are thought to be in danger from Elspeth & her followers the Venifucus.
Amalie moved to Ohio, to try to live a ‘normal’ life away from her slightly meddling grandmother, Mrs. Talridge—who sends Billy to check in on her granddaughter & provide protection of needed.
Amalie has a ‘secret’…in part due to her parentage…and that secret could be why various members of the Venifucus is trying to target her.
Another member of the Kinkaid clan shows up to help…and possibly helps to start bridging the tension/old feelings/memories that the Billy & his brothers hold against their father’s side of the family.
What secret is Amalie carrying/holding? How magical is she? What is the traitor Mrs. Entwistle up to? The answers—within the pages of Conqueror.
Five out of five stars…and I’ll be getting the review written & posted for Peacemaker later this afternoon as well.
I love that these little series within the larger Tales of the Were world can be read as a standalone series…because I’ve got a lot of catching up to do…I didn’t realize how many books I’ve fallen behind on reading within this world.
The Kinkaid Shifters is part of the Tales Were series she has going. This is about three brothers Rich, Billy and Colt who are not part of the Kinkaid Clan Book two of this trilogy is Billy's story. I loved every minute of it. Billy and Amalie had a bit of a rocky start. She was so adamant about having protection or help. She wanted to try living as a human away from all the magic. But that was not meant to be. As all of us know who read D'Arcs books a shifter when he meets his mate knows instantly, trying to get their mate on the same page could be another story. But the fun part of this story is when we learn Amalie has been dreaming of a mysterious man for months now. So when Billy knocks on her door she is shocked and blown away. We find out later that Billy has been having the same dream but could never see her face. Eventually Amalie lets her guard down and bit and reveals her true self to Billy and he does the same. When evil comes knocking at her door she's glad Billy was there. We also see Gavin in Billy's read. It is Gavin who actually saves Billy's life when he becomes distracted because Amalie decides to leave her safe room to try and help. Great great read. I can't wait for Colt's story. I read the little blurb at the end of Billy's read and now I want Colt's book now. My one question Bianca do the three Kinkaid brothers ever make amends with the Kinkaid Clan. Do we ever find out why their parents were shunned. I get their Mom was part of an evil coven but she wasn't like them.
2.5 *'s -- fell just a little flat for me, while appreciated the romance took some get to know you time, it felt a little slow/plodding, sudden big action in the middle, then slow plodding to the end again. the anti-kinkaid clan attitude stubbornness also got a bit tiresome when obviously big question as to just what happened way before their time and that the members now meeting (true 1st interactions w/ the clan themselves) are people they like/respect and contrast to what they always thought they knew about the clan. still an ok read with a couple new twists in the overall "universal" plot. curious what the next book will bring.
Billy is the second lion brother to find his mate and quite a catch she is. Granted, the adventure was rather predictable but it was very entertaining. Much like Lionheart, I found many familiar characters. The third bear’s quest will have more than a few loose ends to tie up. Is there an annotated edition of these stories? I recognized most of the “Peanut Gallery” heroes and plotlines, but I get the impression I’ve missed a few chapters in this saga.
Good characters but the author needs to do some serious cutting of words and descriptions. Would have been great if less was said of EVERY little thing, details and added more on the brothers exploring their mother’s side. Also the family isolating themselves from others only makes sense if it was prior to the 1980s. After that people rarely cared about what happened. Also would have loved more of their experiences in Fey land.
I enjoyed this book, as I do all of Bianc's books. This book was alot heavier on the romance than action compared to most, I think. It was fun seeing others from other stories too. I would have liked a little more story and intrigue, though. I still loved it and highly recommend it as a great read!
How do writers do it? The North America shifters, magic users and fey. It’s like a weave. Threads from one story stretching out onto another story. It so such a joy to read and then reread. Then later listen to. I like all of the ways to refresh myself in my fantasy world.
The main characters connection was strong from the start. They each opened up to each other slowly, both scared but hopeful. The over all arc built more in this book. Can’t wait for Peacemaker!
I love getting lost in books that are part of the worlds that Ms dwarf writes . You know to look for your favorites and they are pretty awesome Love her books!!!
Bianca D’Arc takes us back to the Kinkaid brothers again! I’m so happy to follow Billy along as he has his solo adventure. I love this world and can’t wait to see where we go next.
Wow. This book did not disappoint. Right iff the bat thevavtion starts and I found myself eager to find out more about each of their families. It was also nice to see characters from other books pop up. All in all, fantastic sequel to Lionheart and it leaves me craving thevnwxt book Peacemaker.
