I loved him from the beginning. In the middle. But maybe not at the end. His love for me was full of possibilities, hopes, and dreams a girl like me wasn’t accustomed to. He was a nightmare that cracked and bled through my hands, and I stood there watching as it seeped into the ground. Until him. He put me back together. Without even knowing he was doing so. And he wasn’t even my husband.
USA Today Best Selling Author T.L. Smith loves to write her characters with flaws so beautiful and dark that you can’t turn away from. Her books have been translated into several languages. If you don’t find her in her home town of Queensland, Australia you can usually find her travelling around the world to sitting on a beach in Bali, to exploring Alcatraz in San Francisco or walking the streets of New York.
Surprised to see the array of 4/5 star reviews. I consider myself to be pretty conservative/fair in my reviews but, with that being said, I did not connect with this story whatsoever. I probably should give it a one star but I’ll go with two.
To start off, I normally enjoy reading stories from this author. I fully intended to love this story or, at the least, be invested in it, even if it wasn’t my cup of tea. Neither was the case, I had to force myself to finish and this was a very short story compared to some of the novels I typically read.
I couldn’t connect with either main character and I couldn’t even tell why they liked one another, other than the fact they both loved the color black. Just zero chemistry besides sexual.
Milo is obsessed with Lissie from the first time he sees her, no idea why. She hardly had a personality from my stand point and her character seemed to change chapter to chapter. At first she was a shy, timid woman who wouldn’t leave her husband because he had dirt on her sister but then once he abuses her she leaves and she is no longer worried about the previous reasons she stayed? Not sure - just didn’t follow it at all. She went from being a pushover to standing up for herself and having attitude over night, just didn’t see the growth for that to truly have happened. She just flip flopped too much for me. At one point she was adamant that she wouldn’t cheat on her husband and sleep with someone else until the divorce was finalized but then the next chapter she is hooking up with Milo with no regret and no reference as to why she had the change in heart. Trust me, she had no reason to feel guilty but idk why she was so adamant about not cheating in the first place.
Then we have Milo, who got a BJ from another women at the start, while in the same vicinity as Lissie, and also refers to women he fucks fairly often. Instant ick factor for me. Outside of that, he was rough around the edges and I just didn’t see what there was to love about him - he was pretty much an asshole for majority of the book. He constantly is pushing Lissie away and then hooking up with her and then pushing her away again - all under the guise that it’s in her best interest.
The story was rushed - maybe that’s what made this feel inauthentic. So many plot holes/unexplained situations that I was constantly getting frustrated. For example, Lissie wants to leave her hometown and, on her 26th birthday, she comes into money left to her from her mother. As a part of this, she realizes she had a father interested in meeting her. Instead of just visiting him and coming back and weighing her options, she just straight moves out there. Like did she even consider other cities to live in? Seemed so premature. Then she eventually moves back - why you ask? No idea. All we know is she got her old house back in the divorce. Not sure why she couldn’t just sell it. We really have no idea about her time in the new city - it’s completely skipped over other than one weekend visit her friends have (where Milo has something to tell her that will make her hate him and she doesn’t even push to know what it is - she just wants to deal with it after they have sex). Idk so many plot holes and then they randomly throw in that Cody murdered Lettie - Cody was a real piece of shit but it just didn’t make sense and felt sooo haphazardly thrown in there.
I don’t know - just couldn’t connect with his book and could go on for ages about my issues with it.

I don’t understand most of what I read LOL #sendhelp
I have so many highlights where things just did not make sense or add up that I’m confused.
Like, what was the plot exactly, or rather what was the point of the story?
I’m also really upset at Lissie’s character. I don’t know this author very well, but I hope her female leads are not always like this one. Her thought process was ridiculous. She made sense at the beginning but then it all derailed for me after a while.
The story isn’t consistent in any way. The realism flew out the window early for me, but I kept reading because I expected something. I don’t know what exactly, but something. It never came.
The ending circumstances came out of nowhere and I still don’t understand, even though I read the last couple chapters a couple times.
There is less than zero depth to anything and that also made me mad because why write these circumstances in the first place if you’re not going to dig deep or even dig at all? LOL
*sigh* So this was a complete hot mess for me, but I can’t say I hated it either. Weird, right? Yeah …
I will say this, Milo was a really good MMC and for me, he saved the day. As I mentioned, I kept reading because I was expecting something and truth be told, I was expecting it out of him. As a character, he delivered, but in the storyline, he did not.
(4.8 Stars) Lissie Petal has known Milo Savage for years. He is the head of a local MC and he requests she reads to him from a book every night. She is in a little predicament and sort of owes the club money because of her “husband.” When she wants her freedom can Milo find a way to claim her as his? This is a clever dark romance with a different twist intertwining reading romance with a villian! Well he isn’t a villain to me… I loved the connection between Lissie and Milo. This not only has MC drama but a softer side as well. I’m hoping we get more from this MC world. Told in first person and dual POV.
“I hate that I love the way he talks to me. Especially since he isn’t my husband.”
For a romance book lover like me this story was pure Heaven! Milo Savage was speaking my language and I loved him for not only that reason! I love T.L. Smith's stories and it was a given that I would have read this story as well, even though this title was very different, but so alluring at the same time! Lissie and Milo were everything and they were making my heart beat wildly!
"Reading to him is my favorite job. Even if he hates me. Even if my husband hates him."
Lissie was trapped in a loveless marriage and her awful husband was refusing to give her her freedom back! She was forced to pay his debts to the local MC by reading to its dangerous, but sexy as sin, president, Milo Savage! The crazy thing is that Milo Savage, even though wrong for her from many aspects, were making her swoon every time they were in the same room, but it was wrong to feel like that since she was married! Right?
"Milo Savage is mean and cruel. But there is something more behind those chocolate eyes..."
Milo was a ruthless leader and his one weakness was another man's wife! He wanted Elizabeth for a long time, but he would get her any way he could, just for some moments in her presence.... so, his way of being around her was through reading and lately, even that innocent act was becoming very dangerous!
"I’m fucking obsessed with the woman. And she has no idea."
I liked Milo and Lissie so much! My heart was hurting for this woman and the life she was living in her husband's side! He didn't deserve her and he mistreated her in every opportunity! Milo showed her her worth and let her spread her wings and fly and it was something beautiful to watch!
"This man is dangerous to my body and mind."
As for him, the other man... he was the best man out there! Yep, he was a dangerous leader of a motorcycle club but for her... he could be the softest man in the world! The way he was reading her romance books was making me swoon! These two were so beautiful together, even though they were forbidden, but their story was worth it!
"I need to hear her voice. The way she reads does things to me."

❥ 𝑬𝒍𝒊𝒛𝒂𝒃𝒆𝒕𝒉 She was kinda flat and changed her opinion every five seconds. Still I liked her.
❥ 𝑴𝒊𝒍𝒐 He was hot and totally obsessed with Lissie.
✥ 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒐𝒐𝒌 This was not good but not bad either. The writing style was super basic and easy which was kinda boring to be honest. Everything felt flat and there was no clear red line. The book was chaotic but entertaining. I liked the idea and this was what kept me reading. The characters both were bad developed and the quality of this book is very bad. There was no tension and I was confused a lot of times. Overall this was a unique idea with bad implementation. Like I said before it was entertaining, so I still read it. There were some cute scenes too.
𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞𝐬 possessive and protective hero, forced proximity, instant attraction, secrets and lies, motorcycle club, he falls first and harder, friends to lovers

Lissie is trapped in a loveless marriage to a husband who refuses to divorce her. Her husband owes money to the local MC and forces her to work to pay it back, where she reads to Milo Savage, the president of the club.
Milo has been obsessed with Elizabeth (Lissie) for a while now. Getting her to read to him is a way to spend time with her.
"I would buy every book in this fucking city if I could get her to read them to me."
Lissie has been with her husband for so long all she wants is freedom and to find herself. When she finally gets free and her life starts getting better, she plans on leaving.
“Let me get them and keep them at my place so when I fuck you after I finish reading the book to you, you can come while wearing these.”
Milo and Lissie were EVERYTHING! The angst and heartbreak i felt for them. I wanted to scream. There was the spice as well, holy shit I need my man to read to me STAT. THAT WAS HOT. The ending was perfect for them. I loved every word.
Milo has loved Lissie since the first time he saw her, but life didn’t end up going in that direction. Lissie found herself trapped in a marriage to someone else but later had her beholden to Milo to pay back a debt her husband owed. I must say that the author's description of the husband made me dislike him so much. Milo immediately came out strong.
Milo, an MC Prez, did anything to spend time with Lissie and devised an unorthodox payment method. Milo stepped in when Lissie faced challenges that had finally crossed the line. I loved Milo’s soft heart and how fiercely protective he was of Lissie.
”When He Reads to Me” is my first from Author T.L. Smith. I enjoyed her writing style. The story was well-paced in proportion to the romance and spice. The spice was written well, and I loved the ending.
I read this book in one sitting because I could not put it down! I was not expecting this book to have the hold on me that it does. Milo and Lissie are seriously angsty as heck but so worth the it because when they finally take the leap, O…M…G!!!!
Everytime Milo and Lissie are in the same room you can feel the tension, feel the need they have for one another. So many times I wanted to shake Lissie but in the end she gets herself straight and takes a hold of her life. It was glorious to see her finally coming into her own and making her own way. I do wish we had better closure on some things but I have to say this story is one of my top reads from this author.
Milo is intense but the emotions and feelings he has with Elizabeth are definitely off the charts and shows you just how much he truly cares. He could be heartless, I mean he’s club Prez, but when it comes to his bookworm he will burn the world down for her..
So taboo and definitely a MUST read to heat things up!
What an excellent read. I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I was hooked from the start and didn't want to put it down.
We meet our Sassy (but very broken) FMC, Lissie, who is stuck in a loveless marriage where her husband refuses to divorce her. Her husband owes money to the local MC so she is sent as a form of payment where she reads to the president of the MC, Milo Savage. Milo, who is secretly obsessed with her, uses this time to spend time with her. Once Lissie gets the courage to leave, she needs some help getting put back together and Milo helps her to feel herself again.
I loved the dynamic between Milo and Lissie. It was full of drama, possessiveness and spice. If you are looking for: - Broken but sassy FMC - Opposites Attract - Possessive Alpha MMC - MC Romance - Spice then this book is for you.
Thank you TL Smith for an ARC for my honest review.
This was one of the worst books I have ever read, utterly stupid from start to finish. No emotional pay-off, I liked none of the characters and the plot made no fucking sense. What even happened? Truly?
1. “Those hands, hands that will haunt me for days and days to come, roughly stroke every inch of my body.” 2. Chapter 18! If those 2 reasons are not enough to get you to read this MC romance, here's more. The angst, the chemistry, the growth in both the MMC and FMC.. all the feels. Loved this book. I can see me rereading again and again, as Milo is the man!
Gosh this book was so good! Did I mention the MMC wants to buy the Fmc a library if he could? Now you’re talking my language!! SWOONING ! This is my first t.l.swan book and it won’t be the last!!
this is kind of giving the kind of “book” i tried to write in middle school bc why was it SO bad. genuinely was confused from start to finish bc right off the bat the relationship between lissie & milo was so strange. she’s thirsting over him but then says no im married i can’t do this (which happens throughout the whole book mind u). but anyways moving on why was milo just randomly an asshole to her when she was literally on her knees looking for money to buy a load of bread and then the next chapter his monologuing about how much he wants her. and another thing how did their dynamic change so randomly where he’s just start telling her things like how he wants to fuck her. and why was she saying so often that she was gonna leave whatever bumfuck town they were in and then come back six months later and then continue to say she was gonna leave again and then just never left. and while we’re on the subject, why did she just decide to up and move to whatever city her dad that she didn’t know existed lived in. and why did everything just magically work out for her in that regard. AND also #that death felt wholly unnecessary. genuinely in what world did that need to happen at 85%. what story development did we need. i’ll tell you: none! the story was literally over no one needed that shit. this book genuinely irks me. the more i think about it the more annoyed i get because who in the world thought this was ok.
With Milo being the Prez of the local MC he welded a lot of power and was dangerous along with being a very smart man. He was smart enough to have the woman he has eyes on and paid her to read books to him. Elizabeth/Lissie was in a terrible marriage but stayed since her abusive and controlling husband had something that kept her from leaving.
Milo was a very driven alpha which he had to be with being the Prez but when it came to Lissie he showed a much softer side. This made Lissie grow into a stronger woman that came out of her shell and made her see what her worth really was.
T.L’s books always have a dark aspect to them and a possessive antihero, the damage of the FMC varies. She does not shy away from taboo topics. The undercurrent in this book had me. There was just a feeling that came off the pages. Almost as if I could feel Lissie’s tormented life and Milo’s need to protect her. This book has an aura. I was sucked in, surrounded by it, consumed by it, and would have loved to have Milo read me all the words.

‘I shouldn’t form attachments while I’m still trying to repair myself. That would be a stupid thing to do. And I’m far from stupid. So why do I want to be stupid with him?’
Lissie (Elizabeth) Petal is stuck. Stuck in the town she grew up in, stuck in her failing marriage, and stuck reading to Milo Savage, the President of the Savage Villian’s MC. Lissie’s life fell apart when her mother passed away. Needing someone to lean on, Cody was there for her, but as the years go by their marriage gets worse. For a time she relied on drugs and booze to soothe her soul.
Milo Savage took over as president when his father died and he took his place. He has had a thing for Lissie for years, watching her from afar, but when her husband strikes a deal with her as payment he doesn’t hesitate.
Having finally escaped Cody’s clutches she is limited on where to go. But, then finds help from Letti. They become best friends and roommates. Letti helps Lissie to rebuild her life.
Milo is still just on the fringes of her life.
But, Lissie has plans for her future and they do not include this town.
He says he just wants one night because he would never want to ask her to stay. As Lissie turns 26 her mother gives her one last gift. One that will change her life.
But, when your (finally) ex-husband wants to make you suffer he will find a way to gut you.
However, you have been knocked down and around before. Except this time you know you are not alone.
Let me get them and keep them at my place so when I fuck you after I finish reading the book to you, you can come while wearing these.”

"I would buy every book in this fucking city if I could get her to read them to me."
I need Milo Savage. End of discussion. This man is a gem.
"I would buy the whole f*cking library if I could"
T.L. Smith ate it and left no crumbs. I loved this book. I devoured it.
This book is so so soooo good. I was hooked with the title.
Elizabeth aka Lissie was stuck in a mess. She is sweet, sassy and bold.
Milo Savage, hot biker but there is more to it. He is intense and he can do anything for his girl. Anything means anything. Even it means breaking a promise to keep her safe.
Lissie is strong and Milo is unpredictable and sweet when it comes to her.
Lissie is married to Cody (a**hole). But still the chemistry between her and Milo is top notch.
They were bomb together.
"We can use your bike for this other than driving"
Axe, I love this character as well. Other characters were so beautifully placed and mingled with the plots.
The plots and twists, OMG. I loved it.
"The door opens and he entered with blood all over" . Tbh I was so happy for what he did.
The book is a beautiful journey of emotions, pain, longing, self discovery. This book is heart wrenching..
My heart sank when i read " Goodbye paragraph" I literally checked my Kindl that there is more or not. There has to be.
I loved the ending..
"With you I can have cats. Even if I hate them"
This book is must added to your TBR book who wants a book boyfriend designed and carved with love, Slow burn, intensity and protectivness.
When i started it i expected something different, and after reading it all i can think about is that this book had great potential but it got WASTED. And i don't know how to rate it.
So... the author throw us in the middle story from the first page; it takes a bit to understand the situation Lissie, the FMC, find herself in. I didn't like much her dispite everything she went through. She was too much into her head, into her problems to notice those around her, to really notice Milo.
Milo is the only thing i loved about this story. He was obsessed with the girl to the point he would have done anything for her. Despite being a ruthless and dangerous man, he was so cute with her, so loyal and so true to himself 😍😍😍
Lissie is married to a piece of sh!t and she can't leave him because he blackmails her with videos that could ruin her sister' life.... Ok, right i understand it. But then she finally leave him and he does nothing....?! So why worrying in the first place?
I mean nothing really happens a part from the "i want him, i don't want him; i need to leave, i wanna stay" going on between Lissie and Milo.
And then the author made the husband kills someone just because and for me it doesn't make sense, not for the way things were going....
I don’t know if my rumblings make sense but i just don’t get it. Maybe its because i'm not used to the author style.... Obviously this is just my opinion, and i'd love to know what you think about this book.

This story immediately grabbed my attention, and I was completely absorbed until the final sentence. Although there’s quite a lot going on in the book, it definitely doesn’t feel rushed or overwhelming.
Lisse is a fantastic character. Her caring attitude is innate, but at times, it is also her downfall. Her husband, Cody, is a waste of oxygen—end of story! As the book progresses, it is wonderful to see Lisse become stronger and sassier.
Milo, the president of the local MC, the Savage Villains, is feared by most—except not Lissie. I can truthfully say I like Milo, but he is a slightly confusing character. Eventually, you see where his mind travels and his reasons for why, which honestly is just him!
There is a time in the book when this monster of an author, yes, I felt like that when reading, made my heart rip in two. Then she restored my faith in her and the story by sorting an ongoing issue satisfactorily—I approved wholeheartedly. 🤣
Growth and self-discovery are prominent themes in this book. Both are interwoven carefully and very cleverly in the story. From the emotive aspects to the messages within the story, this author clearly demonstrates how powerful she is as a writer.
*When He Reads to Me* by TL Smith is a masterful, emotional rollercoaster that will leave readers breathless. From the moment I saw the title, I felt a thrill, and the story that unfolds more than delivers on its promise. TL Smith has a rare ability to evoke deep, powerful emotions, and this book is no exception.
The heroine, Lizzie, trapped in a loveless marriage, exudes strength and resilience. Her life takes an unexpected turn when her husband, deeply in debt to the MC, puts her in a vulnerable position. Enter Milo, the MC president who has quietly harbored feelings for Lizzie from afar. When she becomes part of the payback by reading to him, a connection begins to spark, and the tension is palpable.
What starts as an unusual arrangement soon unravels into a deeply emotional, heart-wrenching story that explores love, longing, and redemption. Smith expertly captures the inner turmoil and passion between the characters, making *When He Reads to Me* impossible to put down. It’s a must-read for anyone who craves intense, slow-burn romance that will pull at your heartstrings until the very last page.
Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.
When Lissie was seventeen she met an older guy when she was very vulnerable. He manipulated her and now she’s stuck in a loveless marriage with no way out. She lost herself somewhere along the way.
For the past year she pays off her husband’s debt to Milo Savage, the president of the local MC. She comes and reads to him. He’s ruthless and scares a lot of people. But he also has respect from his men. Lissie has known Milo longer than her husband and she isn’t afraid of him, she feels safe in his presence.
Milo is obsessed with her and she has no clue. She doesn’t know that if she asks for something, he will give her everything she wants and needs. He will do anything for her.
With time Lissie blossomed into a woman she was supposed to be from the start. Milo opened up her eyes and heart. This story is about growth and heartbreak.
Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for an opposites attract, possessive hero, MC club romance then you’re going to love it.
Although I have loved books from T.L. Smirh in the past, this one didn’t hit the same. I didn’t hate it, but I didn’t love it. The characters in the book I did actually like. The FMCs new bestie in particular. The relationship between the FMC and the MMC is great, however the way she had to pay off her husband’s debt to the head of the motorcycle gang just seemed off. Of all the things he could have made her do, he preferred that she read books to him? It did hit right. Thats my personal preference though. Maybe other readers will find it endearing. I also took issue with the MMC backing off on her ex husband because she said so. I get she may not want his demise on her conscious, but it just got replaced with others. It also made the FMC, MMC, and the club look weak. Over all the story had great characters and chemistry. And I think if the MMC had more backbone the story would have been improved. This won’t deter me from future books, because I have loved most of T.L. Smiths past books. Overall ⭐️⭐️⭐️/🌶️
My first book by this author and I loved it. I will definitely be reading more.
This book is a dark, spicy romance. Milo Savage is the president of the local MC. He has been intrigued with Elizabeth Petal for a very long time, but she is trapped in a loveless marriage to the local drug-dealing, pimp, Cody. Cody pimps her out to Milo as repayment where she reads to him. There is tension and chemistry between them.
Milo is scary to everyone, but not to Lissie. She feels safe with him. He would do anything for her and definitely shows his softer side to her.
I love the plot. Cody is a problem that needs to be dealt with.
This is not a sweet romance by any means. Check your trigger warnings: death and dismemberment to name a few. But there is a happily ever after.
Thank you to Hambright PR and the author for an advanced readers copy. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
My first book by this author, but not my last. I was hooked from the start; the story of Lissie and Milo consumed me. Lissie’s sass and Milo’s brood start the story, but I need to know more as we meet them and their circumstances.
Lissie has not had it easy, she is still broken from her childhood, she made bad decisions, but is working to better herself. It is her husband that is holding her down. A loveless marriage, and his controlling ways have her trapped. Milo has been attracted to Lissie for some time and invents a reason to be near her. Her friendship with him builds her confidence, and once she gains the courage to leave, she realizes how bad it all was.
Be prepared for an emotional rollercoaster, and some dark themes, Milo is the president of the local MC.
I will be looking at other titles by this author for future reads.
Thank you to the Author for the advanced copy; this is my voluntary review.
I loved Elizabeth and Milo so much! I was afraid this book would end on a cliffhanger as I was hanging on the edge of my seat. But things did get wrapped up and they got their HEA.
Elizabeth has been spending time reading to Milo to pay off her husband's debt to him. He's the head of the local MC and while most are afraid of him she is not. She enjoys the time away from her husband. Their marriage has been loveless for a long time and the only reason she stays is because of what he holds over her head.
Things take a turn and she's finally ready to leave her husband.
Milo has always been attracted to Lissie. Now that she's left her husband he can't stay away.
But if she chooses to leave he won't ask her to stay because she deserves the world.
Thanks so much to the author and Enticing Journey PR for this ARC to review.
Everything about this book called to me. The tropes and the blurb got me. This is my first T.L. Smith read, but it definitely won’t be my last.
Milo fell hard and fast for Lissie, the first time he laid eyes on her. Unfortunately, life has a way of veering off course and Lissie is bound to someone else. When an opportunity arises for Milo, he devises a plan that enables him to be close to Lissie.
I loved Lissie’s strength and perseverance underneath the challenges standing in her way. And Milo….seriously, so swoon-worthy. I love how protective he is of her. Plus he loves Lissie’s love of books.
Lissie and Milo are everything. I adored them as a couple. The angst and spice were just right. I devoured this book and loved every second of it.
